Came for happy hour with a large group and sat out on the covered patio, a really nice setting. We had a great server named Brandon, so welcoming, and really efficient. He was right there for everything we needed! Everyone enjoyed their food, really delicious! Definitely coming back again soon!

Food was delicious, Clark, our server was awesome! The place is nice, didn't know "outside seating" was actually patio seating, lovely area. The only concern is that it takes a very long time to get food. We were there on a Thursday night, not too busy yet it took a very long time to get our food.

Primes happy hour (every day from 5-7pm) can't be beat. You can enjoy A GIANT glass of red wine for $7 (maybe $8?!) and dine on elevated dishes for very modest prices. Things I've feasted on: Blackened shrimp scampi 5/5 - I'm obsessed with pappardelle and this dish comes with a solid serving of shrimp. A bit spicy and creamy. Filet chile relleno 5/5 - soooooooo cheesy and good with tender chunks of steak. Ribeye sandwich 5/5 - shareable portion, so good, especially when dipped in the horseradish sauce. Ravioli 4/5 - pillowy soft goodness. Blackened seared ahi 4/5 - I'm a sucker for mashed potatoes. The wasabi is no joke so will order the sauce on the side next visit. Fajita steak quesadilla 4/5 - huge portion, great meal. Prime baseball top sirloin Caesar salad 3.5/5 - added avocado and fries and made this a complete meal! Steak was a bit dry but my fault for ordering med well. I've had great servers every time...sometimes it can be hard to get their attention but only because they're juggling many tables. I usually venture in on a tues/wed/or thurs between 5-6pm and have no problem getting seated. You have to request the happy hour menu which is only available at the inside high top bar or outside on the patio. I like to sit outside because the interior is pretty dimly lit! There's ample parking on Anacapa, Thompson, or primes parking lot.

Went for happy hour. Was seated in the patio area. What stood out immediately was everything was black, top to bottom. The dimly lit space can provide a romantic atmosphere if one was looking for such. Service was mostly good, but we did have a minor issue with drinks being forgotten and having to ask for them twice. The happy hour drinks menu offered a decent variety. We were a little confused about the happy hour food menu though because it was a small plates menu and didn't say happy hour on it. Some of the prices were quite high for it to be considered happy hour, but that may just be my frugal side talking. The drinks were pretty good. The food tasted ok but none of the food was hot (temperature wise), it was barely warm. Flavor wise all seemed to be on the mild side, even the sauces. I think the cool temperature affected the flavor so we might've enjoyed it more if the food was warm. It seems to be a hit or miss with all the mixed reviews but based on my experience I'm not rushing back any time soon.

I came here with my husband to celebrate my birthday! I am glad we came! This is one is the Nicest restaurants for steak in town with really nice vibe, live music. Service was great! Food was good and really good portions! First we started with salad, I had the beet salad, which was amazing then had. We went during happy hour but that was only on the bar so they allowed us to have drinks on the table. We had some appetizers which were good then got our steak! I will return here

Loving the bar area vibe!

First timers last week - and honestly, Prime Steakhouse had us at hello. Once inside, we loved the almost dark bar seating area with each table having it's own dinner light! That is my favorite!!! There is also a regular lit dining area that looked nice, too. The next great thing that happened was Endy, the bartender and our server. Not only is he a great mixologist but well spoken, pleasant person/communicator. When we asked Endy about the Chef, he immediately replied with the Chef's background, and the highly recommended entrees as well. The "Small Plates" were not only AMAZING but priced well, too. (We prefer to sit in bar dining/small plates...the selection choices are very wide spread and so delish. We'll be back and we can't wait. PS. Endy deserves a reserved parking spot!

I wanted to take my husband out for a delicious dinner for his birthday. I had been here before and remembered it being the perfect intimate atmosphere to enjoy dinner. I am so glad I brought him here because it was just perfect. I made a dinner reservation the day of and I was able get in with no issues. Service was very attentive and personal which allowed us to enjoy our dining experience. We started with the spinach wontons and tuna tartare which I simply believe all their appetizers are the best. The lobster and shrimp pasta was what I ordered and I would simply go back just for the pasta. They offer great drinks. Overall a great experience and cannot wait to come back.

Ray was excellent! Very knowledgeable of how to throw axes and was open to teaching and giving advice when we asked. Great location, ask for Ray!!

I can't believe I last reviewed Prime 7 years ago! I go there quite often...so here's my update. Prime has expanded into their "temporary " pandemic space, and it really opens up the restaurant. The lovely addition adds a 3rd area to Prime. There's the cozy neighborhood bar area, the dimly lit dining area, and now the open, bright fireplace area. All 3 areas offer access to Prime's quality menu, warm and friendly service, and wonderfully crafted cocktails. I just went to their happy hour tonight, and the delicious small plate menu reminded me what a jewel Prime is for Ventura!

Ask the Community - Prime Steakhouse

Is there dancing?

Maybe a few over indulgent "Fans of Frank" on Tuesdays...but no dance floor or other live music. If you book the place for a private party, I'm sure it could be arranged!

Now that the new patio is open, does Frank sing outside or inside still?

A few weeks ago, we went for " Dinner with Frank", and he set up in the corner of the front room.

I know it's a silly question to ask a steakhouse, but are there any options for vegans?

Yes salad.

Do they have prime rib again? Also, do they make the same Mac and cheese that they did pre-Covid?

Prime is known for its Prime Rib. That hasn't changed during or after the pandemic. They seem to have changed their mac n cheese, though. Gone is the crispy crust. It's now more of a creamy consistency.

When is Frank singing?

Tonight 6-9

Is the new outdoor dining area dog friendly?

Yes

Does anyone have photos of the outdoor patio?

I dont have any photos But its really nice, you will enjoy it

Do you need reservations for just two people for dinner during a weekday - let's say Tuesday?

Tuesday’s are a little busier because we have our Frank Sentra singer so it’s good to have them.

Do they have a happy hour?

Yes 7 days a week from 5pm-8pm

Is there a bar at this place?

Yes there is. The bar seats maybe 10 and there are 3 high top tables that are set for dinner but are open seating, sort of integrated into the front part of the restaurant. It's not the type of bar to have standing room to watch sports etc.

What is best of prime 4 course?

Prime Steakhouse has 2 menu's. "Ala-cart" where everything is in large portions and comes by itself, and "Best of Prime" smaller portions and you get 4 courses. a choice of a few appetizers, few salads, few entree's, & few sides for a flat rate. You…

All to say, research where you wish to walk about, find a meter or free parking lot - enough around, and put on your good yet cute walking shoes because you'll enjoy strolling about after your meal here - or drink. Last December, a friend came across The Cave while looking for a place to have lunch in Ventura and…read moresuggested we give it a try. I'm really glad he did because it's the kind of place I probably wouldn't have found on my own. The first thing that caught our attention was the self-serve wine dispensers lined with bottles ready to sample. We had a lot of fun walking back and forth, looking over the different selections, and deciding what to taste next. Being able to sample wines by the ounce before committing to a full glass made the whole experience feel interactive. I especially liked that I could compare different Cabernet Sauvignons side by side, which isn't something you get to do very often. After trying a few different Cabernets, Chimney Rock ended up being my favorite. The dining room added to the experience. The cave-like ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably spaced tables made it easy to settle in, enjoy our lunch, and catch up without feeling cramped or rushed. If you enjoy trying different wines, it's easy to lose track of time here. We started with a cheese plate, which turned out to be much more generous than I expected. It came with a nice assortment of cheeses, crisp apple slices, grapes, candied walnuts, crostini, and a savory relish on the side. It was a great dish to share with our wine. My friend ordered the tuna poke tower, and we shared the cheese flatbread and sweet potato fries. I went with the Original Cave Salad with salmon, which came with a generous piece of perfectly cooked salmon over fresh greens, apples, grapes, walnuts, and blue cheese. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely satisfied. One thing I appreciated was that we never felt rushed. Lunch naturally turned into an afternoon of catching up, comparing notes on the different wines, and deciding which pours we wanted to try next. Before we left, we wandered through the wine shop one more time. If you discover a favorite during lunch, you can pick up a bottle before heading home, which is a nice touch. I'm really glad my friend found this place. The next time I'm in Ventura, it'll definitely be on my list again.

The day before, the owner Michele couldn't seem to find the paperwork where we discussed menu, family style, decor, budget etc. Thankfully, we went in the day before to double check everything. Not only were we met with a misogynistic retort to everything we talked about but he did not clarify any details that we later found out would be important. The day of the event, we accidentally hit a bottle of wine bringing in the decorations. Total accident! During the party, we had to constantly find our server (super nice guy but terrible service) to take drink orders, to take food orders, and to clear the table and bring to go boxes. Drinks weren't refilled. We cut and served the cake we brought. Then our bill comes and surprising to us, we were charged a room fee (which I confirmed they DID NOT have prior to booking), charged a cake fee (just for them to store it in their fridge and NEVER told there would be a fee for bringing a dessert, despite Michele asking the day before if we were bringing our own or using them for dessert), and he charged us $50 for the bottle we accidentally broke. With all these extra charges, in addition to already paying a deposit, we were way over the previously discussed budget. I never would have agreed to his idea of everyone ordering individual dishes instead of family style plus his outrageous extra fees had I know it was going to blow the budget. He had every opportunity to tell us there is a cake fee (never have I EVER had to pay a fee to bring a cake- even our server said he felt it was in poor taste to charge us for that). We refused to pay the room fee because we already put down a deposit and were never told there would be these extraneous charges! The terrible ending happened when I slipped and fell (8 months pregnant) in the front of the restaurant RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNER, who stood over me as I was on the ground, and said "you must have slipped on the wine you spilled." Never offered concern, never offered to help me and never apologized. A staff member from the kitchen ran out to help me despite Michel being an arms length from me, looking down on me. Such a disgrace. My dress was dirtied from their floor and I was left with bruises on my knees the next day. No wet floor sign, clearly the floor wasn't cleaned up properly or dried. We will never patronize this restaurant again. What was meant to be a beautiful event turned into a calamity met with a chauvinist owner who lacks customer service and compassion.

On a Thursday night it was pretty dead but we didn't mind, WE ARE the party! The restaurant/ bar is surprisingly spacious which wasn't outright apparent from the outside. Once you walk in there is a nice long bar on the right hand side. A couple of booths and plenty of tables. It was actually a lovely evening (plus our group gets loud & rowdy) so we decided to sit outside on the high top patio table. It was perfect as it could fit the seven of us no problem. Initially i worried how service would be as we were alone on the patio but immediately my concerns went away as we had a fabulous bartender named Jordan helping us out. Despite making the drinks inside and engaging with customers at the bar, he was very attentive to our outside patio group. The drinks were brought out at an impressive pace and we felt valued as customers. Jordan gave great suggestions for shooters for us to try and also was overly accommodating, by allowing us to all pay separate/individual checks per our request. I grow to appreciate that more nowadays because some businesses do give patrons a hard time about splitting tabs. I was grateful despite being a big group he was willing to accommodate us. We only came for drinks, so I can't speak for the food but this spot is a solid bar. They have some interesting cocktails and I liked that they had a couple of shooter/shot options. Good selection of beer and even some wines. I really enjoyed both my Mexican candy shot and the purple heater shot that Jordan recommended for me and a friend. Drinks were cold and they kept flowing. Easy to give this spot 5 stars as the service was good, atmosphere was welcoming, and reasonable prices for being on Main Street. I'd definitely come back and would be happy to try some appetizers next time to see how the food is. My only baby upgrade is that the patio cushions on the chairs need a good wash or to be replaced. Otherwise everything else was clean from the tables, to the bar area, to the restrooms etc. The patio just needs a tiny bit of TLC which a couple of us noted. We had a great experience here though and I'm glad we stumbled upon this spot.
