    Grilled prawns
    Tina O.

We are staying at the hotel and decided to try their restaurant for an early dinner. It felt like we had a private romantic restaurant to ourselves. The restaurant is very clean and has a wonderful menu selection. Jay was our server and he was helpful with just the right amount of attentiveness. We started with a heavenly strawberry, spinach salad, and a bowl of their clam chowder. My husband ordered the New York steak with mashed potatoes. It came with a lovely bourbon type sauce on the side, and the vegetables were a nice summer blend. I ordered the grilled prawns which was served with linguine and a grilled lemon and saffron sauce, SO Yummy! They use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Apparently, they have dueling pianos on Friday and Saturday nights. We will be sure to try that out soon. This is a great restaurant in a nice location with fair market value, pricing, casual and sophisticated. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Leaving Moofish patio after Dueling Pianos weekend . Yummy appetizers and drinks and good service

Great little place by the beach! Went at 8pm whe piano time started. Go for Dueling Pianos if you can! Good service, fun atmosphere, good fries and drinks. The manager lady (I think) was very sweet to my foster dog on patio and the server blonde lady was very good at her job and a good listener. The piano people inside were funny and did some good Elton John impressions. You can tip them to play a song you like. Fun to people watch. Dueling pianos is hard to find these days so fun to see it happening here!

We stayed in the hotel for a retreat. The organization paid for a Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast voucher / lunch / dinner, and Sunday breakfast. 1. Each breakfast was in the Moofish cafe. Saturday, we had the mocha coffee, salmon toast, avocado toast, and surfers' Benedict. Sunday, mocha coffee, avocado toast, and medium-rare steak and eggs. 2. Buffet lunch was Mexican style. Liked the fork-sized pieces of churro with chocolate sauce OR dulce de leche sauce. 3. Ingredients are probably local, so they could advertise as such!

I try to be as generous as possible when writing reviews, but this is, without a doubt, the worst restaurant I have been to the entire time I have lived in Ventura. My wife and I decided to try this place, since they were having a dueling piano event (which are every Friday and Saturday night). We made a reservation and were seated right away in chairs. Things quickly went downhill, starting with us sitting around in chairs (that are hard as a rock) for 10 minutes or so for anyone to come to our table. We finally get to place our order, which included the Brussel spouts, fish and chips, and the Moofish burger. We were a little surprised when the Brussel sprouts came out on a plastic plate with little to no actual seasoning, but things got worse...much worse! The fish was the driest fish I have ever eaten, and the burger was lower quality than I got in my high school cafeteria. It seriously looked and tased like it had been a frozen patty (came out well-done when we ordered medium), and you could have replaced the bun with a sponge and I don't think anyone would have noticed. A few bites into our meals and I asked my wife if we should just call the meal a loss and go get in-n-out, but she was committed to hearing the pianists play the song we paid to hear (a point I return to below). Neither of us finished our meals. We also asked for water and ordered several drinks. We didn't receive water until about halfway through our meal, and one of the drinks they couldn't make because they didn't have the ingredients. The server was extremely kind and did her best to make a similar cocktail to the one my wife had wanted, but it is worth noting that there were only a handful of cocktails on the menu. Finally, the dueling pianos. They were entertaining and, per usual, were accepting requests you could submit with paper they handed out to all tables. I wanted to hear the Campfire Song from SpongeBob Squarepants, and we threw in a dollar tip to hear it. It wasn't much, but most people weren't giving anything. After our terrible meal we sat around waiting for the song and the pianists not only played the SpongeBob intro instead of the Campfire Song, he proceeded to say afterwards "I can't believe someone paid me a dollar to play that s#!t". So yeah, we won't be back, and I will be actively telling people to avoid this place. In short, we spent around $120 on terrible food and were indirectly insulted by the pianist. At the very least, the experience was so terrible that my wife and I now have something to look back on with laughs.

Me and my mother spent a quick getaway here. For the breakfast, we decided to do it quick and easy. Going to the Hotel Restaurant. Moofish is part of Crown plaza Ventura. It is also open to the public. The price is alright. Waiting staffs are quick to serve. I ordered a breakfast burritos. My mom ordered a salmon fillet. The quality is pretty standard Crown Plaza Hotel like. Not bad, nothing stood out.

We came here after the fair and sat in the beautiful dog friendly patio. We were serenaded by the talented and comical dueling pianos team. They were amazing and kept us very entertained. Our servers were also awesome and attentive. It was a chilly night but the heat-lamps kept us toasty! My Cioppino was delicious fresh and very filling and my friend loved her burger and was also full. Prices are good too!

3.5 -4. Clam chowder very good. Tarragon a nice touch and clams were fresh and meaty. Husband had fish n chips. Thick pieces good breading. Loved the crispy frys. Cioppino spicy but not too much. Fish ok. Clams mussels and shrimp adequate Hostess was also the waitress ... maybe cause Tuesday is slow. 4 couples total at 6:30. Raspberry lemon drop fabulous. Tangy and sweet. Well made Prices ok.

The food was great. Nice location, got a table with a partial view of the beach/pier. Nice ambience, peaceful, soft upbeat music, very clean, and the best server yet, his name is Scott. Will be back most definitely because of him. Great smile and excellent service

View from the patio while eating

Food was very good with exceptional service. Server Scott was the best. Scott made our morning very by the beach awesome. Restaurant has great vibes with the beach walkway and view of the ocean. Definitely need to visit.

9/28 I'm visiting Ventura on an annual girls trip with a friend. We're staying at the Crown Plaza. We opted for the room rate that includes breakfast. First off, let me say that the room rate that includes breakfast is a fantastic deal. I think it was $25 more per night and you're allowed to pick any entree on their breakfast menu, the most expensive of which is $25. There are two of us so it's basically like getting one breakfast for free. This morning I had the eggs benedict. I like my hollandaise super lemony so this wasn't the best as far as I'm concerned, but it wasn't bad. Service was super fast too. Our breakfast was served to us within about 5 minutes of ordering. Tomorrow I'll try something else and will update the review with that information. 9/29 This morning I had the salmon toast for breakfast. It was delicious but if I was paying for it I would think it was overpriced at $20. It was included in our room rate though so for that price it was great. Service was also great this morning. Unfortunately last night it was awful. They brought us all the wrong food, which we didn't bother to correct it since it took forever to get. It was conveniently located though and we enjoyed the jazz band that was playing. 9/30 This morning I had the chorizo chiliquilles for breakfast and they were amazing. Lick the bowl amazing. Service was much better as well.

Claim Chowder delicious, served with oyster crackers and a thick slice of fresh hot sour dough bread. We all ordered, we all loved it! Calamari a bit of a downer, it was just "ok" little chewy/rubbery. Won't order again. Taco's amazing! 2 huge taco's enough for two people and loaded with everything you want. 2 bucks more for Avacado add on. We ordered 2 plates one blackened snapper (I split with my daughter) and the other grilled snapper tacos for hubby (he loved their non-alcoholic beer too ordered at the bar). All fresh, moist fish, cooked perfectly and tasty. Will order again. The 2 little ones shared a very generous serving of chicken nuggets with fries meal. Really good, so much so, we snitched off their plate. Enough to take home too. All in all a great experience and will be coming back soon for another Happy Hour meal.

Open since 1981, this local staple has been around a long time (and in this economy) impressive! I've always walked right past this spot but somehow ended up next door getting tacos or simply walking down the pier for the views, I truly didn't realize how fabulous this lowkey restaurant is. When you walk inside you order at a counter, so it's semi casual in that way but otherwise, everything about this place feels "wow" because your getting 5-star restaurant views of the ocean while paying $$ (reasonable). I picked a cute little short bar style seat which essentially was "premium seating" overlooking the beach and the ocean and honestly, it doesn't get much better than this. The staff from start to finish were super nice and welcoming. They had a solid kitchen team so the food was all made fresh to order but came out quick, making this a solid spot for a quick lunch break. The gentlemen taking my order was friendly and helpful when I had questions and needed recommendations. If you're looking for alcohol, they have a separate counter/bar where you pay & they take your drink order. The bartender there was lovely as well. Nice people, 5/5 service. The food was honestly fantastic and rivals any other seafood spot in the area. I'd also give the food, Portions and presentation a 5/5 as well. Here's what I ordered: Mai Tai - Boozy, fruity, and basically a vacation in a glass. I'd recommend this cocktail if you want something strong but fruity. Popcorn Shrimp - Crispy, flavorful little bites with that southern-style batter that I love. I subbed out the cocktail sauce to pair it with their tartar sauce & that choice was chef's kiss. (Tatar sauce over cocktail all day everyday). Ahi Tuna Taco (staff recommendation) - Light, fresh, and LOADED. Super fresh seared ahi, crunchy veggies, and an addictive wasabi sauce. Oysters - Freshly shucked and you can't leave without ordering a dozen...or two. Their rotation of what type of oysters they have does change regularly I think I read but when I came in the smaller west coast oysters were great. Meals like this remind me why living here feels like paradise. There's a reason these long time local favorites stand the test of time and it's important that we continue to support them so they'll be around for another 40 years! Cheers to Eric Ericssons, definitely a highlight meal for me this year.

It's lightly breaded with capers and a nice garlic and Parmesan sauce. It's not too heavy and is always so tasty. I got it with the pineapple coleslaw and butternut squash. I would probably sub the butternut squash with fries or another side next time. Charbroiled oysters - 5/5. I didn't get it this time, but these are a must have and my favorite. If the texture of oysters are less pleasant to you, this helps a lot while giving it a lot of flavor. Sea bass - my husband got this from the daily catch with the potato cake and spinach. He said he enjoyed it but would opt for something else in the future considering the smaller portion of the sea bass. Overall, this is a really nice restaurant to bring family and friends too.
