This location is in Downtown Ventura, just a short walk from the pier, and was a godsend after a miserable experience at a nearby restaurant where we were completely ignored. The Good: * Dog-friendly covered outdoor dining. * Great ambiance that is casual enough for a quick lunch but elegant enough for a hot date. * The complimentary warm sourdough is terrific; don't fear the carbs. * Local beers on tap, as well as locally fermented grapes. * I don't recall the server's name, but she was amazing and made us feel welcomed the entire time. * The clam chowder is easily one of my top five all-time favorites; just get it. * The ahi tuna was delicious and fresh. Our first time at Lure Fish House, and we had a great experience from beginning to end. We walked in on a Friday night without reservations and put our name down for a table inside. The wait was about 20 minutes, which was no big deal for a busy Friday night. The host recommended grabbing a seat on the patio and enjoying happy hour while we waited, which ended up being a great recommendation. Katie approached us with a warm, welcoming smile. I mentioned that it was our first time, and she recommended the clam chowder, charbroiled oysters, and fish tacos. We also ordered the crab cakes, a hazy beer, and limoncello. We had just returned from a trip to San Francisco, so we had our share of clam chowder, but Lure's really stood out. The charbroiled oysters were also excellent. I highly recommend both. I ended up missing the text that our table was ready, and by the time I noticed, our reservation had been dropped. I went back to the host stand and explained that we had been enjoying ourselves on the patio. Instead of giving us an attitude or making it a problem, they happily put us back on the list and gave us a few minutes to close out. That kind of hospitality really took our date night to another level. Once inside, the atmosphere was lively and crowded, which was great to see. Joel was our server, and if management is reading this, Joel is an example of how five star hospitality should be done. I haven't received that level of service in a long time. First of all - the best fish I've had in years! I had the Sand Dabs which I never heard of before this and the way they prepared it was on another level - very crispy on the outside, soft and flakey on the inside, well seasoned... just perfect. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of our server by the time I got to this review as I really wanted to give her props but she was amazing - great energy, very attentive, and the recommendations on point! Terrific! Visiting Ventura for a few days so stopped by here for lunch on a lowkey Monday afternoon. Not a single complaint to be had. One of the better clam chowders I've had to date. Nice and creamy, fresh and satisfying, it almost had me wishing I ordered a bowl instead. My wife tried mine too and had to order her own right after. The lobster roll with some fries was my main course. So good! The bun was lightly toasted and crisp and the lobster was just sweet and buttery without being too heavy. Very satisfying. And then finally I had to wrap things up with a dessert. Their strawberry basque cheesecake was the easy choice for me. This is the kind of dessert where everyone says they're just going to have a bite and suddenly half of it is gone. I'm glad I split it because I could have easily indulged and eaten the whole thing on my own if the temptation was there. And again, service was excellent. It wasn't particularly busy when we were there. The drinks came in a little slow because there was only one bartender and the bar was busy but otherwise, our waitress checked in on us a healthy amount of times to see if we needed anything or to refill our waters. Anytime we have guests out of town, we bring them here because we know the food is always gonna be good and fresh. My husband and I came on a Saturday and was quoted 35 minutes for a wait. I recommend going to the bar like us if you want to skip it. Sally's sand dab - 5/5. My go-to for a reason. It's lightly breaded with capers and a nice garlic and Parmesan sauce. It's not too heavy and is always so tasty. I got it with the pineapple coleslaw and butternut squash. I would probably sub the butternut squash with fries or another side next time. Charbroiled oysters - 5/5. I didn't get it this time, but these are a must have and my favorite. If the texture of oysters are less pleasant to you, this helps a lot while giving it a lot of flavor. Sea bass - my husband got this from the daily catch with the potato cake and spinach. I feel like lure fish house is always a hit. My usual location is the Santa Barbara one but I was closer to the Ventura location so I decided to give it a try to see if the flavors were consistent between the locations. Spoiler alert: the flavors were consistent! I ordered the Baja Kanpachi which came with two sides. I chose the sweet potato fries and the cilantro corn salad. The Kanpachi tasted fresh, buttery and was well seasoned. The sweet potato fries were fresh and sweet and didn't taste like it was from a bag of frozen fries. The cilantro corn salad also tasted very fresh and paired nicely with the Kanpachi. Service was decent. This location has less seating than the one in Santa Barbara and is much smaller. They have a lot of outdoor seating though. There is free parking located in the parking structure right behind lure fish house. Would recommend! read more

What set this crispy chicken sandwich apart from others I've had in the past was their hot honey. That crunchy, juicy chicken with a golden crust, then that sweet heat that creeps in at the end. This location is situated nearby quaint retail stores and more. There are plenty of free parking lots nearby. We ordered the fish and chips and a salad listed as a Fall Harvest Salad with the ingredients listed as such, Chili dusted butternut squash, goat cheese, beets, quinoa, kale, pepitas, maple vinaigrette. Seeing as the kale is listed late in the list we expected it to be more butternut squash and beets. However it was a huge kale salad with some of the other ingredients added. We were defintely disappointed with the end result. The wild cod fish and chips were very good. Loved the fries. We will be back as there are so many other options we need to try. read more

That's some very good complimentary bread! Great combination with the chowder. The calamari was just okay, nothing to write home about on Yelp. The fish and chips is pretty solid. Nice light batter and tasty fish. The shrimp are good as well. You get 3 pieces of fish or if you get the fish and shrimp combo, you lose one piece of fish and get 3 shrimp in return. $5 up charge for this combo switch. Good housemade tartar sauce as well. I don't usually like shoestring fries in particular, but Lure's FH are good. They leave a little skin on and season them up well. Sad to write this review as I VERY rarely write poor reviews. Our service was at the bar, was encouraged to sit there by the hostess because they have full service. It was a Friday night and they were busy and the bartenders acknowledged us I believe ONE time in the 1.5 hrs we were there. We had to flag them down each time for food and drinks each time. Even when it completely slowed down they proceeded to restock/refill/clean the bar and continue to ignore most of the customers at the bar. Lure Fish House is one of my go-to happy hour spots. Happy hour runs Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:00 pm and Sunday from 11:30 am-5:00 pm, which is honestly elite timing. I'm obsessed with their oyster bar, especially the Grassy Bar oysters and the charbroiled oysters. I always order the house-made chowder 50/50, it's half Classic New England and half Veracruz fish chowder. It's rich, flavorful, and truly the best of both worlds. I'm a big fan of their shared plates, which is where Lure really shines. Favorites include the bacon cheddar biscuits with whipped honey goat cheese, crab cakes, and a classic Caesar salad that never disappoints. Everything is well-executed and perfect for sharing. Their specialty cocktails are also worth ordering and pair well with the food, especially during happy hour. Ashley was a phenomenal server bringing the kindness and energy from the start. From the shrimp cocktail to the oysters to the clam chowder to the key lime pie. Everything is a winner. Stopped by Lure while visiting Ventura for the fishing expo and had a great experience overall. Service was excellent from start to finish. Our server was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the oysters, and honestly one of the highlights of the meal. Started with oysters. The Morro Bay oysters were definitely my favorite. Buttery, clean, and super easy to eat. 5/5. We also tried another variety that the server described as more briny and oceany, which ended up not really being my thing, but I appreciated the honest recommendation beforehand. The New England clam chowder was great. Rich, creamy, comforting, and they offered fresh ground pepper to your liking at the table which was a nice touch. 5/5. I ordered the cod fish and chips and the cod itself was excellent. Light crispy batter, flaky fish, not greasy at all. Definitely the standout entrée for me. 5/5. The dill horseradish sauce was also fantastic and paired perfectly with the fish. 5/5. Only disappointment of the meal was the fries. They came out soft and soggy instead of crispy. Ate maybe 3 fries and left the rest behind. 1/5 on those unfortunately. One thing worth mentioning: my friend paid the tab and always leaves a flat 10% tip no matter what. The service here deserved much more than that, so I ended up leaving extra cash on the table because our server genuinely did a great job.
