I had the Sand Dabs which I never heard of before this and they way they prepared it was on another level - very crispy on the outside, soft and flakey on the inside, well seasoned... just perfect. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of our server by the time I got to this review as I really wanted to give her props but she was amazing - great energy, very attentive, and the recommendations on point! Super bummed because this use to be my # recommendation and favorite resturaunt. However this is the 3rd time in a row I left Lure feeling dissatisfied. 1st incident I didn't receive there appetizer our table ordered but it was on the bill. I advised the waitress we didn't get the appetizer and to go ahead and remove it from the bill. Instead she came back with the appetizer we ordered (calamari) I told her that would get soggy and I asked for it to be removed. She said it was for us to take because of the mistake but then charged the whole thing anyway. I came again on a separate date and were told there was 15 min wait and it took over an hr, I get that because this is a poppin spot. But the hostesses were being a little catty and we can over hear them complaining because we kept asking for updates (we asked 3 times in that hr) then we were brought to a dirty table and had to stand in the walkway while the table got cleaned. I ordered the steak medium and it came out well done and chewy. Again so bummed because this was my #1 favorite and it just hasn't hit the last few visits. read more

Terrific! Visiting Ventura for a few days so stopped by here for lunch on a lowkey Monday afternoon. Not a single complaint to be had. The blueberry margarita and limoncello beverages were my two drinks of choice, recommended by our lovely waitress Bethany. I liked my drinks a little sweet and girly and both fit that vibe. Shared some oysters with the wife and some crab cakes, they all hit the spot and were solid appetizers to start with. I also got a cup of clam chowder before my main meal. One of the better clam chowders I've had to date. Nice and creamy, fresh and satisfying, it almost had me wishing I ordered a bowl instead. My wife tried mine too and had to order her own right after. The lobster roll with some fries was my main course. So good! The bun was lightly toasted and crisp and the lobster was just sweet and buttery without being too heavy. Very satisfying. And then finally I had to wrap things up with a dessert. Their strawberry basque cheesecake was the easy choice for me. This is the kind of dessert where everyone says they're just going to have a bite and suddenly half of it is gone. I'm glad I split it because I could have easily indulged and eaten the whole thing on my own if the temptation was there. And again, service was excellent. It wasn't particularly busy when we were there. The drinks came in a little slow because there was only one bartender and the bar was busy but otherwise, our waitress checked in on us a healthy amount of times to see if we needed anything or to refill our waters. My absolute favorite place in town. It never disappoints I have been here so many times and have always had good quality of food. Anytime we have guests out of town, we bring them here because we know the food is always gonna be good and fresh. We have been here no more times however they're happy hour is our favorite, even when we go during non-happy hour, we still order the items from the happy hour because they're just so good. Their bread is always so fresh. A must have from their menu is pop rock shrimp, oysters are always amazing. Their sliders is a new menu item and it is really good. We usually get two sliders with one fries. Clam chowder is also on their happy hour and it is amazing We have had so many dishes, including their salads, lobster, ravioli, tequila, lime, shrimp, sand is another favorite of mine One thing I wish they would change back is their spicy seafood ceviche, they used to have it better however they changed the recipe slightly. OMG ... Lure is probably one of my favorite spots in VC def a Top Happy Hour. The food is great. Customer service is top notch. The restaurant is beautiful! Eddie was our waiter today and he truly went above and beyond to ensure we were enjoying ourselves! He's a star ! I had to get the lobster ravioli with a side of sautéed cauliflower. We ordered the blueberry margarita and a lemon martini (forgot what it was called) it was very good because I prefer sweet drinks. My husband enjoyed his Maine lobster roll with Brussels sprouts. Lure fish house is always worth the wait. I've been to the one in Santa Barbara several times and the location here delivered amazing food like always. My husband and I came on a Saturday and was quoted 35 minutes for a wait. I recommend going to the bar like us if you want to skip it. Sally's sand dab - 5/5. My go-to for a reason. It's lightly breaded with capers and a nice garlic and Parmesan sauce. It's not too heavy and is always so tasty. I got it with the pineapple coleslaw and butternut squash. I would probably sub the butternut squash with fries or another side next time. Charbroiled oysters - 5/5. I didn't get it this time, but these are a must have and my favorite. If the texture of oysters are less pleasant to you, this helps a lot while giving it a lot of flavor. Sea bass - my husband got this from the daily catch with the potato cake and spinach. Sad to write this review as I VERY rarely write poor reviews. Our service was at the bar, was encouraged to sit there by the hostess because they have full service. It was a Friday night and they were busy and the bartenders acknowledged us I believe ONE time in the 1.5 hrs we were there. We had to flag them down each time for food and drinks each time. Even when it completely slowed down they proceeded to restock/refill/clean the bar and continue to ignore most of the customers at the bar. If you can get there for happy hour, it's a great way to sample many things while saving some money, but anytime is a good time to go when you want great seafood. This trip, I tried a few new items like the clam chowder and Louie salad (both excellent), as well as the tried and true oysters, fish tacos, sole, crab cakes, calamari, and of course their fabulous Bloody Mary. I came here because of the great Yelp reviews. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, and the service was good. However, whatever you do, do NOT order the lobster roll. The complimentary bread and butter were disappointing. The butter tasted worse than Trader Joe's butter, and the bread felt like something bought from a cheap grocery store. When my lobster roll arrived, my bad feeling turned out to be right. It was ridiculously overpriced, yet there was barely any lobster inside. I ended up eating mostly bread, and it was so dry I almost choked. Even worse, the lobster itself had almost no flavor. We ordered two warm lobster rolls, but one of them was served cold. I didn't complain because of my husband, but honestly, I was furious. At $32, this lobster roll is absolutely not worth it. If you're craving a lobster roll, save your money and go to the Santa Barbara Pier instead--you'll get a much better meal for your money. The Tequila Shrimp Pasta was also nowhere near worth the $32 price tag. In Los Angeles, $32 can get you a delicious, high-quality seafood pasta. Here, this pasta was only worth about $10. If you're visiting Ventura, I'd honestly recommend going to McDonald's or Habit Burger instead. The coffee and the food here were both terrible. Overall, it was a complete waste of money. read more

This was super good. Grilled rockfish tacos - 2 large tacos, with our chosen side of miso brussel sprouts. Delicious, with big pieces of super fresh rockfish. Roasted butternut squash - this side of mapley glazed, heavily garlicky squash was delicious. There were a few lesser roasted pieces of squash mixed in but the ones that were more soft & roasty made it all delicious. The covered outside patio was slightly breezy & the option to have the heaters on or off was nice. Walking thru the inside, I saw their beautiful full-service bar & the inside booths. I feel like lure fish house is always a hit. My usual location is the Santa Barbara one but I was closer to the Ventura location so I decided to give it a try to see if the flavors were consistent between the locations. Spoiler alert: the flavors were consistent! I ordered the Baja Kanpachi which came with two sides. I chose the sweet potato fries and the cilantro corn salad. The Kanpachi tasted fresh, buttery and was well seasoned. The sweet potato fries were fresh and sweet and didn't taste like it was from a bag of frozen fries. The cilantro corn salad also tasted very fresh and paired nicely with the Kanpachi. Service was decent. This location has less seating than the one in Santa Barbara and is much smaller. They had happy hour running when we visited, which meant bar seating only I ended up ordering from the regular menu because I I'm a sucker for a crispy chicken sandwich. What set this crispy chicken sandwich apart from others I've had in the past was their hot honey. That crunchy, juicy chicken with a golden crust, then that sweet heat that creeps in at the end. Totally out of his control...(and I've ordered this a couple other times we've dined here - it's my favorite! Stopped in for lunch with a friend. We were greeted when we entered and offered our choice of seating. The host staff were very friendly. This location is situated nearby quaint retail stores and more. There are plenty of free parking lots nearby. This is a large location with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar area and oyster bar seating. We ordered the fish and chips and a salad listed as a Fall Harvest Salad with the ingredients listed as such, Chili dusted butternut squash, goat cheese, beets, quinoa, kale, pepitas, maple vinaigrette. Seeing as the kale is listed late in the list we expected it to be more butternut squash and beets. However it was a huge kale salad with some of the other ingredients added. We were defintely disappointed with the end result. The wild cod fish and chips were very good. Loved the fries. We will be back as there are so many other options we need to try. read more

His attention to detail and service was top notch. He didn't miss anything and they are very lucky to have him at this location. The clam chowder was really good and served smoking hot!! 3 bucks a cup during happy hour cannot be beat!!! The fresh, hot sourdough bread is pretty dangerous!! That's some very good complimentary bread! Great combination with the chowder. The calamari was just okay, nothing to write home about on Yelp. The fish and chips is pretty solid. Nice light batter and tasty fish. The shrimp are good as well. You get 3 pieces of fish or if you get the fish and shrimp combo, you lose one piece of fish and get 3 shrimp in return. $5 up charge for this combo switch. Good housemade tartar sauce as well. I don't usually like shoestring fries in particular, but Lure's FH are good. They leave a little skin on and season them up well. Char broiled oysters! We come to Lure often. We always start with roasted oysters. They have top notch crab cakes. I'm extremely picky with crab cakes. These are some of the best. Fish is always cooked to perfection. We just keep rotating the types of fish. We still can't decide which is best... Sea bass, mahi mahi, salmon, halibut, and even the rock fish are great. We had a really enjoyable visit overall, with some standout items and a few inconsistencies. Drinks were a big win, my extra dirty martini was delicious, the hazy IPA hit the spot, and both the limoncello martini and the Lure martini (with grapefruit juice) were excellent and well-balanced. The bread alone is worth coming back for, absolutely to die for. We also loved the oysters (Kumamoto & Misty Point), super fresh and flavorful. Food was a bit more mixed beyond that. The crispy calamari was just okay, the tomato sauce was a little runny, though the aioli was tasty. The calamari itself was a bit chewy, slightly greasy, and lacked seasoning. The Baja fish taco was solid, and the chipotle shrimp was interesting, we noticed the last one we had (right at the end of happy hour) actually looked better than the first, which speaks a bit to the inconsistency. That said, the service was EXCELLENT. Madeline was awesome, attentive, friendly, and really elevated the whole experience. I'm obsessed with their oyster bar, especially the Grassy Bar oysters and the charbroiled oysters. I always order the house-made chowder 50/50, it's half Classic New England and half Veracruz fish chowder. It's rich, flavorful, and truly the best of both worlds. I'm a big fan of their shared plates, which is where Lure really shines. Favorites include the bacon cheddar biscuits with whipped honey goat cheese, crab cakes, and a classic Caesar salad that never disappoints. Everything is well-executed and perfect for sharing. Their specialty cocktails are also worth ordering and pair well with the food, especially during happy hour. The vibe is lively but not overwhelming, making it perfect for after-work drinks or a casual dinner with friends. Lure never disappoints!! Especially their happy hour which is generously from 11:30am-5pm on Sundays!! My family has been coming here forever and their quality has stayed top notch and is consistent. We came in on a Sunday afternoon for happy hour and sat at the oyster bar. Our server was attentive and our food came out really fast! We ordered 2 grilled rock fish tacos, 1 seafood ceviche, and the charbroiled oysters. Everything was so flavorful and did not disappoint!! Tacos were a 10/10, I find that grilled ones can be bland or dry sometimes but this one had all the right spices and sauce pairings but didn't over shine the fish! The charbroiled oysters were our favorite, another 10/10!! Loaded with garlic and butter but not overwhelming or overcooked, the texture was perfect and the flavor was spot on. It wasn't fishy at all and was very fresh. Pro tip, use the garlic butter to dip the table bread . The ceviche was a 7/10 for us, a little too much lime and could've used more salt and seasoning but overall was definitely really fresh. Could use a couple more chips as well. The value at Lure is unbeatable, for 2 people our meal costs $30! It's also located in such a great spot with plenty of shops around downtown Ventura. Parking is also super convenient with street and free garage parking. The restaurant itself is really nice and chill with laid back beach vibes and a good amount of seating. They also have a nice outdoor patio! They're regular menu is also delicious, we will definitely be back like always! read more

I really enjoyed the visit. The food was phenomenal. I got the lime shrimp pasta. The portion is large and I couldn't finish! Would work for two. Partner got the burger as he's not big on seafood. He gives it an 8/10. The garlic pasta with chicken was pretty good as well. (Normally comes with some kind of shellfish) Friend ordered and I sampled. The anacapa tower was so good!! The albacore ponzu was addicting and I would come back just for that! I didn't get the muscles but was told they were good. The civeche was good too, a little spicy. I did not like the clam chowder... I ended up sending for back. We sat in the patio and it was wonderful. Definitely recommend. The inside is very pretty. All in all, this will definitely be a new favorite place to go while visiting Ventura! read more

Ambiance was amazing very alluring & fun experience. Staff super friendly and upbeat. Food options were wonderful. Food is very flavorful and very well portioned. The "adult" beverages top notch :) servers were fast and friendly. We always had what we needed never had to wait or ask for anything. Family friendly and welcoming staff.
