First time with Sam. Nice guy, great quality haircut, fair price, and all around good experience.

Sam has been a barber for a very long time. Since I've moved here to Rocklin from San Francisco 3 years ago, Sam has cut my hair exclusively. He was at another location for many years but He recently moved here. I love this location as it is close to highway 65, the Galleria mall, and other businesses and restaurants in the area. There is also plenty of parking at this location. Before Sam moved here, I would get to his shop early before opening so that I could get my haircut early and head on to the rest of my day. There would always be a line of loyal customers waiting for him. Many of them tell me stories of being Sam's customer for over 20 years. When you see so many loyal customers, talk to them, and seeing them line up early or wait inside, you know that he is a great barber. With online appointments, it so convenient now. Sam always remembers my haircut style and those of his regulars. He always gets my haircuts perfect and spot on. He's very friendly, always smiling, and is a great conversationalist in sports and current event topics. Sam has been my barber for 3+ years and you better believe he'll be my barber till he retires or I move. Give him a try, you won't be disappointed. My previous hairstylist cut my hair from 3rd grade for 30+ years so you know that I'm loyal to only the best. Sam is truly one of the best of the best. read more

If you enjoy constantly waiting for a barber who literally makes a practice of being late/running late, enjoy listening to your barber talk and/or text on his phone incessantly as if you're not even sitting in his chair or prefer a barber who often seems on edge bordering on aggressive at times then Sam's your guy! Be forewarned, a confirmed appointment time with Sam is nothing more than a suggestion. Sam explained to me once that he makes an actual point of intentionally arriving late so that customers don't camp out early before their appointment time. Of course, this bold strategy means he's constantly running late the whole rest of the day! Brilliant..haha. As if that weren't bad enough, after waiting in the hallway for him to get you in (often 10-15 minutes late) for your confirmed appointment time, he will often continue to make you wait once you're in the chair as he returns calls and/or text messages, orders food/supplements, does his online banking and/or catches up on any number of tasks. Lastly, I'm not sure if it's related to his bodybuilding career but this dude seems constantly on edge. Most of the time he starts out fine but if the topic of conversation is one which he disagrees with you about, watch out! Dude gets agitated fast including using quite a bit of profanity to prove his point! I prefer a barber who is punctual, professional and above all friendly and courteous. We recently moved to the Rocklin area and my husband REALLY needed a haircut. He has been going to the same guy since 3rd grade but it just wasn't practical to drive to San Francisco every time he needed a haircut (especially since his hair grows so fast!). I decided to research on Yelp to find him a new barber (we had a bad Supercuts experience in Elk Grove a few years ago where his hair looked AWFUL, so we were trying to avoid that again). Found a few places nearby that looked promising but then found Barber Sam's Yelp page. Wow...we wondered how in the world did a guy have so many 5-star reviews?! We figured we'd check it out for ourselves. We called on July 3rd, right before a holiday and were told that there were a few people waiting but that they'd take a couple more people before closing up early for the day. So we quickly drove over to the shop. It's a nice place---lots of seats and a really pleasant environment. We could now tell why Barber Sam has such great reviews. He has such a likable personality---outgoing, friendly, helpful, and wow his haircuts look great! [Plus if you need references for ANYTHING, he's the go-to guy. He was giving out recommendations for tinting businesses, BBQ restaurants, boat rentals, you name it!] Although there were many people waiting, it was a very relaxed environment. You didn't feel rushed while getting a haircut, yet you didn't feel like you were wasting your time waiting either. It was like hanging out with a bunch of friends, chatting, and watching people get their haircuts! We got a haircut from Shawn/Sean. At first I was a little nervous that we weren't getting the cut from Barber Sam, but after watching Shawn cut a few customers' hair before us, I knew we'd be in good hands with either barber. They were both topnotch and knew what they were doing! We are so glad we found Barber Sam's through all these awesome Yelp reviews. My husband's hair looks fabulous (though he's due for a haircut again soon!) and he really enjoyed his time there. Just to save time, we will probably avoid going on weekends and before holidays because he has a LOT of loyal customers. We'll probably find a weekday when it's less crowded. Or maybe we'll pay a little extra and make a Monday appointment. If you want a great haircut, check out this place! P.S. In town for business and needed a hair cut. Found Sam's place on Yelp and it wasn't far from the hotel so I gave it a try. First off if you use the directions yelp has it will take you to an automotive repair center next door, sam's is in a shopping center on the main 4 way intersection next to the Dollar Store. I was greeted by Sam and ask if they were "cash only", they are. Didn't have enough cash but Sam said to take a chair and I could go to the dollar store and get cash back. I sat in Shawn's chair and he was very friendly, ended up completely satisfied with my hair cut. 4 stars will be back next time if I'm in town and need a cut. read more

I was searching for a barber shop that can do fades for my husband and kids. I found good reviews for Barber Sam's on google. So I called. Confirmed that he can do fades and does take walk ins. Sam and Adam did great work hooking up the boys hair. My boys have fine hair and husband has thick coarse Asian hair. The environment was very relaxed and entertaining. The place reminds me of the types of barber shops you see on TV. Everyone laughing and having a good time talking about sports, life, etc. They even made the moms feel at home. It's hard to find a good barber anywhere, there are so many salons and cheap cuts places where you never get the same person twice. I've been going to Sam's for a year, and have no reason to go anywhere else. He is generally a one man shop, has been cutting men's hair for 20 years and knows hair. Men's hair. No fluff, no 'who am I getting now'. No wondering how your hair will turn out. Overall, I've had good haircuts here, and the 'barber shop atmosphere' is like the one your grandfather used to go to. This is not a bourgeois type of a place where you're going to get charged $40 extra for a hot towel wrapped around your head and a "neck trim". What you're going to get is a clean comfy place to get your hair cut exactly how you want it. Sam is a nice guy and a great barber. He's the only one I've used since 1995, when he stole my business away from the owner of the first Barber shop he worked at in Rocklin (which was accomplished because made the effort to take a couple extra steps to make the longish grunge-style hair do I thought was cool back then look far better than it ever had previously) and will be the only barber I use until he retires someday (hopefully, far off in the future). One thing I really like about him is he's able to make suggestions and work with you to make sure you get the cut you want. Since I started shaving my head a couple years ago, I only need to see him occasionally when I need help getting my beard back under control, but he's a nice enough guy that honestly, it's worth heading out to his shop just to say "hello". Tip: be prepared for it to be busy. I'm not the only one who knows who the best Rocklin Barber is! If you want to avoid the wait, you'll have to either show up a few minutes before he opens, book one of his Monday afternoon appointments, or just be very lucky. read more

I recently moved to Roseville and (offcourse) was on a look for a good barber. Yelp delivered - again. I did a nearby search and voila! Sam came right on top of my search results for "mens haircut". Probably because he has an all 5-star rating from 44 of his customers (cue). That does not happen just like that - Sam is probably the friendliest person I know around. He knows what he is doing and his work shows. He did a great job on my fade and I left feeling like a new man (hello ladies!..). I briefly had a word with him and he is been cutting hair for the past 33 years. He is the kind of guy who is not on the lookout for more customers, rather what he can do better for his existing customers. That's customer service to the next level. Bringing you back to the days of yore! I don't know exactly what that means but this place rocks! If you are going to get your hair cut from a barber make sure he has his name on it! When I was a kid, I went to get my hair cut at Paul's Barber Shop. It had the old red, white, and blue pole outside and he knew everything that was going on in the city. Cut to Sam! Now even though I've been to the place 3 times he has only cut my hair once. The other two times were great otherwise I wouldn't have come back for a third time! So the jury is still out if Sam knows everything that is going on in the community but he has been cutting hair for over 30 years! So come on in and ask Sam what is going on in the community. Got my first haircut in like 7 years, was nervous about going to the barber, but after checking yelp, and reading all the reviews I have found my barbershop, service was amazing and the haircut was even better. Everybody was polite and professional, and with very little instructions got my hair perfect. Will be coming here from now even though I have to drive about an hour to get here. read more

I have two small boys ages 2.5 yrs and 12 months. Ive been taking my oldest to get a cut & fade here since he was 15 months old. I prefer for my boys to have fresh looking cuts instead of something chopped from a salon. Both Sam & Carry are excellent with my boys and give them a great cut. My oldest has curly course hair with a funky back cowlick. Both Sam & Carry give him a nice hardpart with a clean fade and style it just right on top to keep his waves looking natural but tame. If you go in consistently they remember your cut and for the littles they get a lollipop when they're done which is a nice touch in my book. I refuse to take my boys anywhere else but here. Went here once, had a good experience and decided to come back. I showed up at 9:53 and noticed there were about 5 others in line already, so I asked how long it would be and Sam said 45 minutes. So I left, then turned around and asked if he had a list I could get on, and he said no but come back at 1020 and you'll be the next in line. So I come back after running an errand, right on the dot at 1023, and as I walk in he says to someone else in line "he just walked in, he was here earlier so there's actually one ahead of you". So I just sit down and wait while he was cutting the guys hair, at 1040 he finishes, and the guy he was originally speaking to, gets up and sits down in the chair. I'm thinking wtf, I have somewhere to be in 30 min and it's supposed to be my turn. I look at the clock, decide I need to go and as I'm leaving Sam says oh your actually next....no....you just were talking the whole time and lost your organization then tried to turn it on your customer. Maybe you should get a list instead if you can't keep track what happened. I like to be fair, they give good haircuts but they are slow, and talk way too much. I'm there for a haircut...nothing else. Wasted my time when I could have gone somewhere else, and the customer service component was unprofessional. read more

FYI Sam is barbering solo at a new location and is not associated with the recent negative reviews at the old Barber Sam location. I love the new reservation-only system that Sam has. I was able to get a same day appointment but I imagine it will be booked for days in advance once all his dedicated clients start using it. I've been going to Sam off and on for over 10 years. I've only used other barbers because of convenience and sometimes long waits at the old location, but I always come back to Sam for the best cut, great conversation, and genuinely friendly personality. My fiancé came in this weekend for a cut. He showed the guy a picture of what he wanted and asked if it would work with his hair type (curly) and specified if it wouldn't work-let him know because he would try another style. The guy assured him he could pull it off. NOPE- he walked out of there with a pile of frizz on his head looking like Kramer from Seinfeld (and no-that's not the picture he showed him!) We went home thinking it may just be poorly styled so he washed it out and styled it how he wanted which just revealed how choppy the cut actually was. It was really bad! We returned back maybe 30 minutes later to ask him to fix it. We walk in and he greets us casually as if he doesn't even realize we were JUST there. I would expect him to ask why we are returning and if something was wrong?? Anyways, there were probably 4 other customers in there waiting to get cuts so out of politeness my fiancé just said the cut isn't working and he needed to go shorter rather than saying his hair is choppy and needs to be FIXED in front of the other customers. We take a seat and think the guy would pull him aside or something to fix him up real quick as we were JUST there but he just calls the next person. My fiancé just got an awful haircut-do you really think we are going to wait over an hour to have it fixed! No! If they had good customer service he should have just said he has to take him really quick and attempted to fix it. But that's not what happened. Perhaps my fiancé should have been more vocal that he was there for a fix, but like I said, he didn't want other customers to overhear but who cares maybe he could have saved them the same trouble. We walked out. Horrible service. Horrible cut. Went to another barber the next day and he said my fiancé's hair was chopped up really bad! Luckily he was able to fix it because he actually knew what he was doing. We won't be coming back here. Wanted to leave the review so others aren't fooled by the high overall rating. Maybe this place is good if you have straight hair and want a simple cut or buzz-anything more than that you gotta go somewhere else. Good luck! read more

Ran into Barber Sam's after reading about it on Yelp and was incredibly happy I did. Great, traditional barber shop with two extremely friendly barbers (including Sam, the owner). Didn't have to wait too long, but there were a fair number of people waiting when I left (shortly after the lunch rush on a Friday. Everyone seemed to be a regular as Sam knew everyone's name. I dropped in for a lunchtime haircut. There was no wait, so I was in and out within a half hour. $16 for a haircut. I was wearing a collared shirt with a tie, and still ended up having no hair on me afterward (not easy to do). The best part is that it was a scissor cut, not just a run with the clippers. read more

I'm new to the Rocklin area and put off getting a haircut for as long as I possibly could because I'm one to stress about finding someone who won't butcher my hair. Once I couldn't stand the length of my hair anymore I found my way over to Barber Sam's. As soon as I walked in Sam himself was the first one to welcome me. I got a great haircut from Kerri(sp?) while watching sportscenter on a flatscreen tv. It doesn't get much better. Today, I made the mistake of visiting Barber Sam's for my haircut. I used to come here and was always pleased with the service, but things seem to have turned around now that it's under new ownership. I was told there was about a 40 minute wait time which is more than reasonable, especially for a great cut. Good things come to those who wait, right? Well, after two and a half hours! of waiting and not having a word said to me or even an apology for the wait, with one stylist taking 15 minute breaks between each cut to smoke cigarettes and make personal calls, I started second guessing what I was doing with my life and decided it would be better to try some of the many other options in the area. The owner even took a call and told the guy to come on in, then after hanging up joked with some of his regulars about not telling him how long the wait would be. It is a real shame because I've had a good experience here before and the cut was pretty good, but being lied to about the wait time, having distracted barbers, and being ignored as a customer is not a good look and doesn't remind me of the Barber Sam's from before. Maybe once they work out the kinks this place can be awesome, but for now I'm just left feeling like my time was wasted. read more

Judging by the other clients that were waiting he is a staple in the community. I would highly recommend this Barber Shop. It will be my go to Barbershop while I am in town. She takes her time to do the cuts to the clients satisfaction, even though she is looking at 3 more cuts ahead of her. She stayed after their closing hours to cut a boys hair.
