We have known each other since we were five, lived together in New York for six years, and stayed close through marriages, children, and jobs that occasionally made us question our sanity. He has seen me at my absolute best and worst, and he was also the person who helped me get fit and regain some discipline while we worked in finance and used excess to numb the misery of those jobs. Choosing Butcher & Singer gave the evening exactly the ceremonial weight it deserved. Steakhouses take on different meanings as you move through life. In your early twenties, an expense account dinner feels like the dream: free drinks and an extravagant meal while you are broke, eating ramen, and sitting at the bottom of the professional food chain. By your early thirties, after enough wining and dining in Midtown Manhattan, the ritual can feel exhausted, and another steakhouse dinner holds little appeal. In your early forties, with young children and fewer unstructured nights, catching up with a lifelong best friend over a great steak feels incredibly meaningful, partly because neither the dinner nor the friendship needs to become a weekly habit. That contrast was especially fitting because my friend is remarkably health-conscious and frugal despite being tremendously successful. He seldom strays from his disciplined diet, while I have historically been much more willing to wander toward fries, dessert, and whatever reckless topping appears on the menu. A traditional steakhouse lets both people leave satisfied: one can order a lean steak and vegetables, while the other can treat the table as permission to suspend judgment for two hours. We shared the same celebratory dinner, but our plates still reflected exactly who each of us had always been. Inside, Butcher & Singer delivers the classic steakhouse fantasy with extraordinary conviction. The soaring ceiling, monumental columns, and amber lighting give the dining room a glamorous scale, while the dark wood, painted murals, and small shaded lamps keep all that grandeur from becoming severe. This is where Stephen Starr's judgment becomes especially apparent, because both Butcher & Singer and nearby Barclay Prime depend on concepts that could age badly: one could become stuffy and antiquated, while the other could become glossy and artificial. Instead, Butcher & Singer still feels transportive, Barclay Prime remains contemporary and cool, and each succeeds because the design, service, and atmosphere are executed with total confidence. Our meal included what I believe was a Caesar salad, filet mignon, asparagus, fries, and a rich chocolate fudge cake. I added a blue cheese garnish to my steak, a completely unnecessary flourish that became the crown jewel on an already excellent piece of meat, while my friend kept his side of the table considerably cleaner. Parc creates a useful third point in Starr's small Rittenhouse constellation: its bar steak and burger offer a more casual form of red meat, somewhere between an ordinary dinner and the full ceremony of Butcher & Singer or Barclay Prime. I appreciate both, but a burger leaves me feeling heavier, while a properly cooked lean steak can feel filling and indulgent without ruining the rest of the night. Only one detail could have improved our experience. We sat at a small table near the host stand and the clock, which was comfortable and entirely reasonable for a table for two, but it left us slightly outside the dramatic center of the room. This was no one's fault, merely the kind of learned preference that comes from seeing the full room afterward and knowing where I would request to sit on a future visit. I hope to return when the budget allows, settle farther inside among the leather booths, glowing lamps, and sweep of the murals, and once again let Butcher & Singer make a rare night with an old friend feel worthy of savoring.

With that, the food was good and it didn't feel just like your typical steakhouse and I attribute that to the service and how wonderful the staff was. We ordered the oysters, onion soup, delmanico steak, porter house, and the fillet. The table shared the hash brown which was absolutely delicious and by far one of the best items I've had at a steakhouse potato wise. We also ordered the asparagus and the seasonal corn dish. For dessert we had peanut butter tart, cheesecake, and ice cream. Over all this was a great experience and I would definitely come back.

So we made a 4pm reservation at Joey Chops. It had always been on a list of things to visit when we are in the area. Parking is a large lot shared with various businesses. We did not have a problem locating a parking spot. Once we were parked we walked in and were seated immediately. The interior is dark in what I call a main dining area which was to the left. But to the right is the bar area and the outdoor seating. That area was bright. Could be because the door was open to the outside dining patio. The dishes were cute. The seating was comfortable. The whole aesthetic was met in many ways, even to the bathrooms. The bathrooms were large, comfortable and they offered extras like lotions and mints. Our waiter Joey was amazing. He was very attentive. The other staff were great as well. From other waiters, waitresses, kitchen staff and food runners. They were all helpful, kind and attentive. We ordered various items off the menu including dessert. I had the She Crab Soup. They had a nice take on it. I live in Virginia so it was a different taste than what I have there, but it was delicious. My son devoured his grilled Mediterranean Bronzino. He had no complaints. The portions were decent. My husband had the Prime Delmonico. He loved it and it was cooked perfectly. I over heard the table behind us thinking about ordering it as well. I almost turned around and said to order it because my husband did and loved it. But, I stayed in my lane hehe. For sides we have the lobster Mac n cheese, Brussels sprouts and the blue crab fried rice. Ok, that fried rice was pretty dang good. I was surprised by it honestly. I'd get it again. The lobster Mac n cheese had good chunks of lobster in it and it was perfectly cheesy. The Brussels sprouts had a sweet flavor to it, from the I think pomegranate glaze. It was not overly sweet, it complemented the sprouts well. Last but not least, dessert. I ordered the cheesecake cart experience. Let me just say my cheesecake expectations have gone up. Ha! My cheesecake better be wheeled out on a cart with all the toppings. The cheesecake itself was creamy and sweet. It was the first slices as well. It was fresh. The toppings were perfect, chocolate, fresh whipped cream, strawberries and a brûléed top. The bruleed topping was my go to immediately. We also had an ice cream flight. The pistachio was a fan favorite. Pricing was on point and expected for this type of establishment. I honestly feel the food and presentation meet the cost. We will definitely be returning.

It's tough for these types of restaurants to really stand out and distinguish themselves. They have to pretty much be doing everything right. The place is fairly cozy - read small. In fact the bar of the same namesake right next door is actually twice as large as the restaurant. The place is done up to be slightly upscale in terms of decorations and table settings. As for the food, we were there on a Friday night and it turns out they have a buffet on Fridays. It smelled good and the price was right so we opted for it. For starters they had mixed greens salad which was fresh and delicious, a mozzarella salad, breads and chilled shrimp. The chilled shrimp where the medium-small size and they had a really off/chlorine taste to them. Fortunately I only took a few of the shrimp. For entrees they had a cook to order station with choice of pasta, toppings and sauces. They also had a chicken dish, tilapia in a butter cream sauce and prime rib. The sides were mashed potatoes, squash and a few other typical sides. The pasta was so-so. The chicken was the same. The big stars of the night were the tilapia, the prime rib and the mashed potatoes as all were delicious. My wife even commented that the tilapia and the mashed potatoes were amazing. The desserts were in a word, horrible. It was painfully obvious from just looking at them that they were the mass manufactured type (you know, the kind that taste like Little Debbie) and not at all fresh. We sampled a few between my wife and I but were disappointed by it all. The service was half decent and friendly, though not exceptional. Our server was MIA at various times which for how small the dining area is and how empty it was when we were there is a bit ridiculous. Another strike was that the first wine glass I was given had obvious lip marks on it. YUCK! This is a fairly benign place that I think wishes it was more than it is but just doesn't have the tools to quite get there. I would really be curious as to what items from their regular menu taste like but I doubt we'll bother going back just to see.

Samantha, one of the talented bar staff, made me a delicious spicy margarita, it was on point! My husband had a Grapefruit Crush, one of his favorite cocktails there and he was pleased as usual! As long as our pup was enjoying the shade provided by the big umbrellas we ordered food. We both decided on burgers, Turkey burger and the CH grille burger. Made just as we ordered! The manager had reached out to me on OpenTable and offered to send me a gift certificate to encourage me to come back, so we did that last night and our experience was AMAZING and truly one of the best meals we've ever had even with some of the sides, not being our favorite. We happened to have an entire area of the restaurant to ourselves and our waiter was attentive, gave great recommendations and was friendly. I had a piña colada sangria and a glass of sweet riesling, both of which were excellent. My boyfriend had two old fashions which he also really enjoyed. Once again, we were blown away by the appetizers. The crab dip is probably one of the best things you can get here. The grilled Caesar had excellent flavor and the shrimp were a good size. They were offering a special Wagyu steak that evening, which I decided to get and my boyfriend had the 12 ounce New York strip. This was my first time having Wagyu and it was cooked perfectly, medium rare to my liking and just melted in my mouth. We also ordered sides of plump crab meat so that we could top our steak with it, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and shredded brussels sprouts with bruschetta. While the mac & cheese and shredded Brussels left more to be desired, it didn't lessen our dining experience in the least. We ended dinner by sharing a delicious crème brûlée served with a biscotti (not picture because we ate it too fast!) If it hadn't been for the manager Michael teaching out to let me know he heard my feedback and offering a gift certificate to dine with them again, we probably wouldn't have come back, given this is about a 45 minute drive from the city. But I can honestly say that this experience completely changed our view of the restaurant and we will definitely be returning for future celebrations.

The principle does not sit well with us. The service, unfortunately, was not what I expect. He did get tables all at once, which I understand, but we felt like our table of 'only' two was a burden. I really do not like leaving a restaurant feeling like that. All in all, the food is always amazing from a taste perspective. The bar experience for a couple cocktails is also always great.
