This place had been on my list to try forever! And it was well worth the wait! Restaurant was beautiful, wished I had a slightly more comfy seat/table but it was packed on a Friday night. Our waiter was very nice. Professional, not super friendly but very refined lol. When we got to choose our knives to go with our steak, that's prob when we were like oh maybe we don't quite belong but whatever lol I think we chose an oyster shell handled knife because it looked pretty. Food was phenomenal. I still dream about the ribeye steak, the bone marrow and the scallop dishes. I had a very decent espresso martini and a glass of red wine with the steak. Lovely dinner for a special occasion or to celebrate. Pricey but definitely worth it if you love a good steak.

Barclay Prime delivers one of the most memorable upscale dining experiences in Philly. The seating options are excellent, from cozy tables to plush booths and a lively bar area, all set in a space that feels elegant yet comfortable. The famous cheesesteak is the star here and absolutely deserves the attention it gets. Made with premium wagyu beef, foie gras, and truffled cheese whiz, it's rich, indulgent, and unlike any cheesesteak you'll ever have. Yes, the price tag is high (you'll definitely notice it), but it's one of those over the top Philly experiences that's worth doing once or twice just to say you did it. Outstanding service, great ambiance, and a unique take on a city classic make Barclay Prime a must visit for a special night out.

Food Quality & Taste: 4 Barclay is a great steakhouse with high-quality steak and accompaniments. The steaks are seasoned well and cooked to the requested temperature the first time. My favorites? The Fillet Mignon Oscar Style, the tator tots, and the sliders. Service: 5 Service is excellent. Servers are courteous, fast, and very knowledgeable of the menu. Your water glass is always full, and they're very attentive if you order a bottle of wine or champagne. Once, I did not enjoy my meal, and while I did not complain, I left an honest review. They reached out to me, refunded the dish I did not like, and (unbeknownst to me at the time), placed a note in my profile to check in with me on my next visit. I really appreciate the proactive service. NOTE: I'd recommend a reservation as they do get busy. Atmosphere: 5 It is a great atmosphere. It is dimly lit, setting a nice dinner mood. Perfect for a date night! There is traditional bar seating, a casual bar "lounge" seating, and a traditional restaurant section that has a little more lighting. The decor is amazing. Value: 3 Barclay Prime is quite expensive. If I were to grade the steaks alone, I'd say a 4, but holistically, the value is 3. While everything tastes good, there are some dishes that are not worth the price. For example, the Cheesesteak. Opportunities for Learning: 4 There are many ingredients that might challenge you (Foie Gras, Black Truffle, etc.) and there's a full wine list that will have you googling. This restaurant is also on the ground floor of an apartment building, with much to be learned about the history of the restaurant and Rittenhouse Square.

Had reservations on Valentines Day. Seated promptly& our server was great. Beautiful restaurant inside with cozy seats & dim lighting. They have a bar with smaller tables too which is tight, at least it was on this particular busy Sat night. The food - Yes I am one of those rare people that doesn't like pink for their steak. I ordered my filet well-done but it came out pink so had to send to back. We weren't really a fan of the creamed spinach but the truffle mashed potatoes were very good. We also ordered soup & salad which were fine. My hubby liked his bread and asked for more, but it never came. At the price point, and having to send my steak back while my hubby ate his, unsure if we'll be back. 3.5 experience but yelp doesn't allow that.

Is in the best steakhouse in Philly, most likely. Prime is at a different level than most spots. All menu options are top tier, flavors out of bounds, and experience is the BAR. What we snagged: -Pre drinks. $25 a pop. Fine? -Sliders (WOW) -White Tail (WOW x2. Like butter) -Bone Marrow (Also, like butter) Mains: -Bone in Filet -NY strip -Sea Bass All mains were fire. High quality meat, and great cook on all. Will I be back? Maybe. A $800 check for 3 was crazy, but we had adult beverages. I'm sure you could get in and out for under 200$.

The restaurant itself is styled beautifully. Our table was small, but it fit everything just right. Our chairs were cushioned comfortably. The seating does feel slightly awkward as the restaurant gets fuller because other guests are quite close to us. For cocktails, I ordered the "love potion."It was suburb, though a little on the smaller side. My companion got "Smoke gets in your Rye." The signature cocktails were $30, so we skipped out. I am quite picky with cocktails and this was actually quite possibly the best cocktail I've ever had. We ordered half a dozen oysters (24), steak tartar (38), bone marrow (22), and caesar salad (18) for our apps. The salad was absolutely incredible, and the fresh bread provided was soft, warm, and crispy. Our oysters were fresh and the perfect mix of creamy and briny. The bone marrow was savory and creamy, the sourdough, along with the sweet caramelized onions made a great pairing. The steak tartare was topped with caviar and an egg yolk and featured thin crusty bread slices. While it is delicious, I have had better at other restaurants. For our main, we ordered the 18 oz ribeye (89) accompanied by truffle butter (10), truffle whipped potatoes (19), and creamed spinach (15). The steak was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and had a crusty exterior. The potatoes were creamy and delicious, as was the spinach. Our server, Jeff, was outstanding. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and very kind. He showcased a knife display for steaks and explained each one, which I particularly enjoyed. Definitely a splurge of a meal, but totally worth it. I would love to come back!

Barclay Prime is the total package. The service immaculate, the food ...stellar and I can't stress how wonderful this restaurant is. Low lighting but it gave enough to not feel like you're straining your eyes. I will be coming back every time i'm in Philly. I am so happy my husband chose this place. Our 2025 day-after-Christmas sumptuous dinner location was Barclay Prime. Let me tell you, the hubby and I made a great choice. The restaurant is beautiful and I liked that when we walked in, the feeling was upscale and warm, very balanced though. Not so huge that it felt like a cavern, but not so small that there was no room to move around. We were greeted well immediately, with two hostesses who smiled and talked with us. Great opening. We checked out coats and were ushered right to our table. Our waiter was so attentive and so knowledgeable about the menu and the offerings. We felt so comfortable ordering. My drink choice was the Love Potion #9 and it tasted fine. I would have liked it to be a little stronger, but it was fine. Hubby and I shared the Chopped Salad and it was so good I wanted to steal the recipe. Overall, I have to say that the steaks, lamb, truffle Mac and cheese, and the snicker upside down dessert we ordered were all top shelf. Nothing bad to mention! Seriously. With food and service so high quality, I can understand why Barclay Prime was filled with diners on a cold winter evening with icy streets. Barclay Prime is simply a wonderful steakhouse for classy dining. I recommend!

    Japanese Wagyu Kobe Beef

Excellent fancy steak night with a multitude of options and a waiter who knew his stuff! He was able to speak about the different Japanese wagyu they offer and tell me subtle differences. They do have an extensive menu and it is on the pricier side. Ambiance was elegant but there were some men with T shirts so it is not a black tie type of establishment. 1. Japanese Wagyu Kobe Striploin 5oz - $210; pricey. Melt in your mouth perfection. Came with a gold plaque/crest which according to the waiter, Barclay Prime is one of 40 in the USA to be officially authorized to sell Japanese Wagyu Kobe Beef. They even let you select your knife to use. It is quite an experience which is not my norm. Overall, a fancy night, pricey but well worth it! Did have a piece of American wagyu and it was so good also. Highly recommended.

What a stellar dinner experience! The vibe is immaculate, from the dignified elegance of the armchairs at each table to the perfect lighting. We always look for an outstanding steak place when we travel and Barclay Prime now has a place in our universal top three. Janelle was engaging and knowledgeable and the service was top notch. One top moment was when she presented us with a selection of five steak knives, explained the background and history of each, and let us choose (see pics)! So fun and unexpected; my husband picked the one of Japanese craftsmanship and I picked the one with the coolest handle. The steaks were impeccable. Mine was a delicious medium rare (so easy to cut with my fancy knife!), his cooked to his medium plus preference, and everything we ordered with was excellent; the green beans are a simple an delicious pick. The crab cake to start was meaty and great to split. The popovers with warm salted butter were a treat. A wonderful fancy dinner that made the trip even better!

"I had an incredible dinner at Barclay Prime and ordered the wagyu , lobster, and filet mignon . the kitchen nailed it perfectly.

    Wagyu Slider Duo
    Miles A.

Elegance and extravagance await at Barclay Prime. Staff were all impeccable and the decor / atmosphere is warm and luxurious without being stuffy. You are very well taken care of here. Wagyu slider duo was tender, juicy, and rich. A sample of the flavor of wagyu beef allowed to shine. NY strip was seared and cooked through perfectly. Roquefort drizzled on top enhanced the savoriness of the meat. Top tier cut of meat. Truffle Mac and cheese was creamy and hearty, but the richness of the steak overpowered it. (My fault for a bad pairing!) Closed dinner off with the red fruit pavlova - quite tart yet sweet, topped with fresh berries and gold leaf. Meringue sweetness balanced out the strong tart berry flavor, great end to the meal. Drink and wine menu is quite extensive, went with a Last Word. Top steakhouse in Philly, great way to celebrate for a rewarding meal or a special occasion. Thanks

Ask the Community - Barclay Prime

I've called Barclay Prime to make reservations and sent a couple emails as my party size is 7. We are celebrating my son's 21st birthday and I'm not sure how else to contact anyone regarding this reservation. Any idea?

They have a website where you can make a reservation.

    1) Is reserving a table through the website only for the indoor seating? 2) Do we have to reserve ahead of time to eat at Barclay during the COVID pandemic.

Hi Jan - you can also call the restaurant directly to make reservations. Thank you!

    Are jeans allowed?

I think generally something smart casual will work. So black jeans, a nice top, and flats would probably be totally fine! But maybe not ripped jeans with a tank top

Do they have a dress code? What would be considered the correct dress attire?

I would agree with Stephen. Business casual at a minimum.

We celebrated my birthday there and I was a bit shocked when they didn't offer to comp a dessert, since most steakhouses usually do, but I didn't mind as it's not expected. Our second visit didn't live up to our first time experience. The steak we ordered was so raw that it was inedible. Luckily, we got 2 big entrees so we were able to enjoy one and take the steak to go and cook it a bit more to enjoy for dinner the day after. This third visit REALLY threw us off. First, we waited over 30 minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, we were seated in what is likely the most uncomfortable seat in the restaurant. You would think if you just made someone wait 30 minutes past their reservation, you'd maybe give them the bigger table that's available to get them back in your good graces. I will say most of the food was very good. We ordered the crab and artichoke appetizer which was good but not great, and for dinner we ordered the duck which was cooked perfectly and the ribeye which was also cooked well. I had mentioned it was my birthday at the beginning of the meal. Since I didn't receive anything with my last birthday experience, I had no expectations of a comped dessert. That was until the young lady at the table next to us received a comped baked Alaska for her birthday. When it was my turn for the waiter to offer a dessert we were asked if we wanted to order anything. We said no and asked for the check. When they brought us the check, they finally remembered we had been delayed half an hour and that's when they offered a comped dessert. Why is it that someone else got a free dessert for their birthday and not me? If you're going to offer that to one you should offer to all. Other than that, the service overall was very lacking. We were checked in on 3 times during the night whereas the table next to us received constant check ins. Not sure what that was about since we had the same waiter. We were also seated and ordered before the table next to us and they received everything before us. Appetizer, dinner, dessert and check. Not sure why this happened but after tonight's disappointing experience and overall food inconsistency I have decided not to dine here anymore. More for tonight's service than anything else. Disappointing and overhyped.

It's listed as a steakhouse because they use premium cuts of steak in their sandwiches. Menu: they are so busy on the weekends that you can only customize the sandwiches on the weekdays. I let my son order and he chose "The Classic" for us to try. Since we were having dinner in a couple of hours, we decided to share. It is pricey for the size. I'm used to having it a footlong at most other places and these are more like half the size. After placing our order on the kiosk, it was ready within minutes. The Classic consists of prime rib, Cooper sharp cheese, buttery steakhouse seasoning with sautéed onions all held intact by this sesame hoagie. OMG!!! My son and I loved it!! I'm salivating as I am writing this review. The Cooper sharp cheese just melts everything together. You can tastes the high quality cuts in their meats. It is now in my top #3. I will definitely be returning to try their other popular creations. Seating is limited. My one little complaint is that I wish they would wipe the tables and barstools down. It was sticky and dirty. Service is excellent even with the soccer match crowds.

Our server apologized for a delay in taking our drink orders. She was attentive the rest of our meal. I ordered a Charles deGaulle whiskey cocktail. Lemon, aperol and simple syrup added a refreshing twist. For entrees, my wife ordered the pacherri; a simple pork ragu with tender broccoli rabe, Parmesan, stracciatello and basil. The dish was delicious. I enjoyed my plate of sea-inspired tonnarelli nero. Bay scallops in crab ragu with fennel sofrito. Served with squid ink pasta that imparted a slight brininess. The pasta was cooked pangrattato style-- coated in panko bread crumbs and garlic. The dish had many flavors but they all came back to the theme. Cocktail prices and entree prices were very reasonable. They offer happy hour drinks and specials. Certainly a very good choice if you're in the area.

The short rib over polenta was probably my favorite thing on the table - it fell apart easily and the polenta underneath wasn't as heavy as I expected it to be. We got the salted caramel budino for dessert too, and I was glad it wasn't one of those desserts that's so sweet you can only handle two bites. Would go back honestly. Probably order something different next time just to try more of the menu, but I'm getting that ricotta again no matter what.

The space is breathtaking--soaring 38-foot sculpted ceilings and a 34-foot wine tower at the center of the bar create a truly luxurious and unforgettable ambiance. The hospitality is just as impressive as the setting. Every member of the staff was professional and attentive, and the managers checked on us throughout the meal to ensure everything was perfect. Our waitress, Ayoola, was exceptional--warm, personable, and genuinely thoughtful. She made us feel completely taken care of from start to finish. We began at the bar with a cocktail called the VIP, which was perfectly balanced--smooth, refreshing, and very easy to enjoy. I didn't even think to take a photo until we were nearly finished--that's always a good sign. The complimentary bread was outstanding--warm, buttery, and perfectly fluffy with a delicate texture. Easily one of the best I've had, and very hard to resist. My husband and I shared three appetizers, two mains, and three sides, and even the sides were generously portioned. It was quite a lot of food, but every dish was beautifully prepared, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. The tuna tartare--with avocado and prawn chips--was incredibly fresh, delicious, and well-seasoned, with a delicate balance that really let the quality of the fish shine. The medium-rare sesame ahi tuna was another standout--perfectly seared, tender, and rich in flavor. It was so good that my husband started digging in before I could even snap a photo. We couldn't even finish all the sides, and by the end, we were completely full and had to skip dessert--but that just gives us a reason to come back. An exceptional dining experience in every way--this is easily a 5-star experience, and one we'll be thinking about long after the meal.

No matter how terrible everything else is, the space will impress anyone. Service ** Our bartender was very friendly but he was totally unprofessional. He was like a child with attention issues as he was running around like a chicken without a head and couldn't get much right. A bartender in this type of establishment should be seen not heard. Food * Absolutely awful from start to finish. Shrimp cocktail were overcooked, tough and tasteless. Our 48 day dry aged NY, ordered Medium, expecting Med Rare was Rare. Fine I could live with that, but it was ice cold. Worse yet the steak was awful. Tough, chewy, tasteless, you throw out the terrible adjective, this was it. I tried to power through it but the more I tasted it the angrier I got. Without question, one of the worst steaks I have attempted to eat. Value * $110 for a borderline inedible steak is outrageous. They did take it off but maybe even more shocking, no manager came over after I just rejected a $110 steak! It is like they know.

A quick note for first-time visitors: the restaurant has multiple entrances, and I initially arrived at the back door. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in directing me to the correct entrance. The space has a unique atmosphere. The indoor dining area felt quite dark, but the restaurant appears to have multiple levels, including an upstairs dining area and a bar, which adds to its charm. I started with a cocktail and really enjoyed it. It was fruity, well-balanced, and had just the right amount of alcohol without being overpowering. Based on recommendations, I ordered the burger. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype for me. It could have been cooked better, and overall I wasn't particularly impressed with it. What stood out most was the service. My server was attentive, friendly, and checked in regularly without being intrusive. Overall, The Dandelion offers a pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, and great cocktails. While the burger wasn't a standout for me, I'd be willing to return and try other menu items.
