My 4 star review was primary due to my table's interaction with the sommelier. He was arrogant and very unhelpful. The wine selection of this place is a huge letdown. Full of unknown wineries from Napa and Sonoma it is very hard to pair their gorgeous steaks with a complementary Cabernet Sauvignon. His view was he wants to find the next Caymus, Silver Oak, or Stags Leap...based on their current selection he will have to keep looking because most of the cabs were too young or don't have a decent reputation. **GOAT ITEM ALERT* Popovers Anytime I visit a city, I always try to find their top restaurants and a lot of times the Internet seems to think it's a steakhouse. I was torn between here, Alpen Rose, and Butcher and Singer. This one was also close to the Hyatt Centric so I made a reservation for here. We got seated in the very corner of the dining room which was perfect. Otherwise, the tables here are way too close together. Dropping $300+ on dinner and being 3 feet from the table next to you is crazy. Now, the best item of the night was... **The FREE POPOVERS** I guess that can't be all that great if the best item on the menu is free. I'd come back here and keep getting more and more rounds of popovers and maybe skip a bunch of the other items we had. I must say the restaurant is beautiful inside. Up first, I had a $20 Smoke gets in your rye. Sadly, there is basically zero mezcal in the drink. There is absolutely no smoky or burnt taste. Pass on this drink. Up next, I tried a $23 Bombay Sapphire (Dirty Martini), and it was standard as it should be. Great blue cheese olives here. To start we split the $18 Caesar salad. We both really liked the salad. For the main entree, I ordered the $89 Ribeye. I thought it was just alright. The tricky thing at steakhouses is if a ribeye is done right it's the best thing on the menu. Here it's pretty bland. No seasoning, no salt, just a straight up slab of meat. It was fine, but not what you'd expect for a fancy steakhouse. My mom ordered the $72 8 oz filet mignon. And per usual, her filet was better than my ribeye. But it too was also very plain with little to no seasoning. For sides, we got the $18 mushrooms, and the $15 creamed spinach. I'd totally skip the spinach next time. The server insisted they were great, but it wasn't. Whoops. The mushrooms are totally worth ordering and was the 2nd best item of the night, after the popovers. We had a $16 deep dish cookie for dessert. Both of us really liked this. Would totally get this again. We spent over $300 and I thought the food was slightly above average. Once again, the popovers were the star of the night. For our main, we ordered the 18 oz ribeye (89) accompanied by truffle butter (10), truffle whipped potatoes (19), and creamed spinach (15). Our 2025 day-after-Christmas sumptuous dinner location was Barclay Prime. Let me tell you, the hubby and I made a great choice. The restaurant is beautiful and I liked that when we walked in, the feeling was upscale and warm, very balanced though. Not so huge that it felt like a cavern, but not so small that there was no room to move around. We were greeted well immediately, with two hostesses who smiled and talked with us. Great opening. We checked out coats and were ushered right to our table. Our waiter was so attentive and so knowledgeable about the menu and the offerings. We felt so comfortable ordering. My drink choice was the Love Potion #9 and it tasted fine. I would have liked it to be a little stronger, but it was fine. Barclay Prime is absolutely worth the hype and the splurge. We went on a Monday night at 6:00 PM and felt lucky to get in. By 7:00, the back dining room was completely full, and it was clear this place fills up fast. From the moment we walked in, the tone was set. Jackets were taken, we were escorted straight to our table, and the space immediately pulled you in, dim lighting, soft music, and a moody, polished atmosphere that feels special without trying too hard. This is the kind of room you settle into and know you are in for a great night. Ricky was our server and guide for the evening, and he truly made the experience. Attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, he struck that perfect balance of being present without hovering. A standout moment was when he helped my wife create a custom spicy dirty martini that was not on the menu and nailed it. Cocktails were excellent all around, the BP Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and the Whiskey in Paradise with coconut-washed Buffalo Trace all delivered. The popover with drinks was a great opener, followed by appetizers that set the pace perfectly: shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, scallops, lobster bisque loaded with lobster meat, and a beautifully fresh hamachi crudo. We leaned fully into a meat-forward night and were glad we did. The 35-day dry-aged porterhouse, Japanese A5 Wagyu strip loin, and American Wagyu bone-in ribeye were all cooked perfectly medium rare and honestly melted in our mouths. Everything paired beautifully with a 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon from Pride Vineyards. Dessert kept the momentum going. Probably the best overall experience I've had at a steak house. It's the first steak house I've been to that gives you a selection of knives to choose from. We each ordered a different cut and they offered to slice and put them on a cutting board to allow us to share and try eat cut. Service was very attentive and impeccable. As our hostess showed us to our table, she wished my husband and me a Happy Anniversary, which I was not expecting but definitely appreciated. For food, my husband and I decided to share the 24 oz bone-in ribeye while our friends each ordered the filet mignon. Our table also had the tuna tartare, and sides of creamed spinach, Kennet Square mushrooms, and truffle mac & cheese to share. It took an extremely long time for the steak to be prepared, and the place wasn't even packed! We did manage to stave off hunger from the complimentary bread and the tuna tartare. The complimentary bread was just okay. Puffy but not fluffy. It tasted flat and was not what I was expecting from the "BEST" steakhouse in Philly. But my husband and our friends seemed to like it. I have to say Butcher & Singer's biscuits were definitely better. Finally, our steaks arrived! Each steak was perfectly cooked to each person's liking. Even with the bone, I still expected to be stuffed from the 24 oz ribeye but was only satiated. The sides were all cooked to par. For dessert, my husband and I shared the Blackout Chocolate Cake while our friends shared the Peach Cheesecake. Both desserts were solid. As a complimentary dessert, the kitchen sent over one cream puff. Written in chocolate icing on the plate by someone with the worst handwriting, "Happy Anniversary." I've been to Barclay Prime twice - the first time they cooked my steak to order (medium + or medium well). I'm one of the few who likes my steak pink on the inside.....not red. Last night, it was cooked medium. What a disappointment. However, I'm getting used to the fact, even the best steakhouses can't cook steaks to your preference. I was at Delmonico's in NYC in July - my steak was cooked perfectly, my partner's wasn't. I'm not sure why the cooks at these fine restaurants can't manage to figure out how to cook a steak. My thoughts, they don't really care. If it comes out cooked to order, fine, if not, the diner sends it back, and they cook it longer, and the staff pretends it's all good. But it's not-it completely disrupts the meal. Interestingly, when my partner returned the steak at Delmonico's for additional cooking, it still came back red, as did my filet last night at Barclay. Go figure, you send it back, and they still can't get it right! The part of the steak that was cooked medium + ( outer layer ) was delicious-but it's negated by most of the steak not being cooked to order. The whipped potatoes and mushrooms were wonderful - no complaints at all! We had the Mousse for dessert. It was a Black Forest Mousse with brandied cherries, and 'a vanilla crème fraiche' on top. The mousse with cherries was superb! However, the 'crème fraiche was, for lack of a better word, pathetic! My partner and I both agreed, it detracted from the dessert, it had no flavor, no richness and was watery.... Reddi-Wip whipped cream would have been a much better alternative! They cleared the table between courses, DECRUMBED, refreshed silverware--nothing was overlooked. The atmosphere is elevated without being stiff. It's high-end, but not pretentious. It makes you feel like you belong in a great restaurant and relax. We sat for hours, in the plush seats that are actually the right height! and we could have stayed longer. The food is exceptional. The tuna crudo was my personal favorite. The prime ribeye was cooked perfectly, as were the wedge salads and the filets. So I am between a 3 and 4 star review here. But if you've been to a good steakhouse this place really isn't worth the price point. We started out with the ravioli special, which if I'm honest this would be a five star review if we had left after eating just that. It was amazing. Service was also very good though I wouldn't say exceptional. The waiter was very good at making it sound like the cost of things was normal. Kinda gave used car sales man vibes tbh. Drinks to a long time to come out and we had planned to order wine with dinner but cocktails took so long we couldn't possibly. We ordered the ribeye and was rare even though we asked for medium rare. Seasoning was nothing to note and honestly this review is based on the steakhouse we normally go to in DC which is just way better for a lower price point . This would be a pass for me returning to Philly. Not worth the cost and didn't even acknowledge we were celebrating an anniversary. Nothing was bad .... I came here with a date and we got a bottle of red wine, the filet mignon, ribeye, cream of spinach, and mashed potatoes. It was the most delicious ribeye steak I have ever gotten with a perfect crust. Unfortunately, the service was not exceptional as one would expect in such a restaurant. I do believe it was because we looked "younger." We were not offered a knife selection, which is apparently their big thing. The dim lit, cozy ambiance of this library looking room makes for a great date night. Expensive, but worth it with better service! read more

I enjoy a good steak and it was hubby's birthday and this was his request-a good steakhouse. Well, since we were visiting Philly I figured let's give this Wagyu cheesesteak a try! I have no pictures as we just enjoyed being present. To start it is a nice restaurant and I love the bathrooms and how they have a makeup mirror in the women's stalls! The seating is luxurious and the decor informs you that this place is pricey. I believe our server was Ed-he has been there since it's inception and he is SUPERB! We started with the cheesesteak-not bad. Items ordered: Salmon Ribeye Lamb chops Spinach Broccolini Truffle potatoes Mushrooms (why not they are native) Banana Pudding Crème Brûlée (hubby thoroughly enjoyed) Scoop of mango sorbet All items were cooked well and tasty! The crust on the salmon and the steak I have got to figure out how to do this at home. The lemon drop mash up (metropolitano)and a bp old fashion were the drinks ordered-well made and balanced...although not a champagne drinker the 1/2 bottle came w/our cheesesteak and we opted to end the meal with it. I am sad I didn't take a picture of it because it was tasty and it would make me a champagne drinker-a small bottle w/a light blue sticker.
