Good: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Delicious food--a little salty. Bad: Confusing service. We went there for the crab cakes. We ordered the crab cakes, which were delicious. We asked if they had dinner rolls (no) but offered us crisps. I asked for butter with the meal to put on the broccoli. She asked melted or solid. I said solid that I wanted it to melt on the broccoli. The crab cakes came before the crisps (which never came). I asked for cocktail sauce and the butter for the broccoli from the runner who delivered our plates. He asked melted butter? I said no. The server was checked with us and I didn't know if the runner had sent her because maybe it was her job to take care of the little details. As I repeated my request for the butter and the cocktail sauce the runner came out with one dip tin of cocktail sauce and two of MELTED butter. I said I didn't want the melted butter and the runner said the broccoli was cooked in butter (suggesting i didn't need any butter--which I never got.) I think what the runner meant was they didn't have butter pats. I asked them to take away the melted butter (it was clear they couldn't or wouldn't honor my request). I wondered why they hadn't said it was cooked in butter in the first place. I was surprised also when the server silently came to our table and refilled my dinner partner's water glass and not mine. She finished serving us and took payment without a word other than did we want anything else. Although we had been considering the $12 dessert selections (which sounded yummy) we declined and stopped at Super Scoops on the way home for ice cream instead. read more

Ludwig's deserves all its local hype! It's basically in our backyard so we go often or on special occasions but we always have a delicious meal and the service is excellent. I most recently got the lobster ravioli and it was to die for! Cocktails are great as well. read more

We stopped here for a quick dinner after having passed by many times. Based n this experience, I'm not sure I would return. Hospitality is not their forte. It was a Thursday night. Not too busy, although it was a "buck a shuck" night so the place was not empty. We walked up the ramp on the west side went past a private dining room and entered the restaurant and kind of stood there not knowing whether we should seat ourselves or sit at the bar. After several minutes we stopped one of the several waitresses who passed us who directed us to the hostess station at the opposite end of the building. The hostess was on the phone sitting on a couch in my the lobby. A young man seated another couple as we arrived and disappeared for several minutes before returning. Finally we were seated. The waitress was fine but it took forever to get the 1/2 dozen oysters we ordered and our entrees. The buck a shuck pricing was $1, $2, and $3 per oyster depending on the type of oyster. We like the PEI ones and they are normally $3.25, but tonight $3. They were pleasantly briny but very small. They were served with a flavorful cocktail sauce and some other clear liquid that tasted like a sweetened vinegar. For entrees we ordered the fish and chips and the hot roast beef. The roast beef was ok and came on a delicious seeded roll which made this sandwich. The fish had no seasoning but the fish itself with a bit of added salt was good. Fries were unevenly salted. The cole slaw that came with it was ok. Not impressive or memorable. Just ok. read more

Food is great but not handicapped accessible. The ramp is very steep and doors open opposite each other. Need 2 people to open the doors. Would never take anyone in wheelchair to this place. One of my favorite restaurants. Great food, and service. The menu has a large number of items suitable for a broad range of tastes. The staff are always friendly and courteous. If you like oysters this is the best restaurant in the Philadelphia area to get shellfish. Make sure to check out 'Buck a Shuck' nights. They have a great variety of appetizers. We tried to calamari, clams, wings and bacon wrapped shrimp. They were all delicious! For entrees, several of us tried the crabcakes, one of their signature dishes. The organic Norwegian salmon was so fresh and out of this world too! Fish and chips was also delightful! This is such a sample within the community. The food is just fantastic and they always have unique seasonal offerings. While the menu changes slightly now and again, you really can't go wrong with any dish. The environment and ambience is lively, warm and welcoming. The dining area is quiet enough where you're able to hear one another. The service is PHENOMENAL! I have eaten here over 100 times and I can't remember having a bad meal or experience, ever. Lovely restaurant with impeccable service. Had Easter dinner with my family and I was impressed by not only the service but the organization of the entire event. Food was decent but not that flavorful in my opinion. The crab cakes were excellent but the salmon and lobster Mac and cheese lacked flavor. I also felt the cocktail menu could have been a bit diverse (mostly vodka drinks). I did enjoy the ambience of the restaurant which was upscale but casual at the same time. He took our food order which was served by a different waitress . We were a party of 3 adults , 2 kids , and a 6 month old baby in a stroller / carrier to the right of our table. 2 kids ordered from kids menu 3 adult meals. When the original waiter came back with the bill he explained being a party of 6 the tip was added to the bill I questioned "6". He actually pointed and counted and included the 6month old baby as a sixth person . The gratuity on the bill was $25 which is fine I worked in restaurants he was going to be tipped but considering the service HE didn't provide and to count the baby as a 6th person was a little too much. ‍ read more

Typically a great venue with good food and terrific service. Except for one bartender by the name of Sabrina. Each time we have gone there, she seems to have a snarky attitude about something. One time was there with friends, and we decided to move down one end of the bar since more seats were available. My impression, along with our friends also, was that she was annoyed we moved! And then proceeded to whisper who knows what to another bartender as she glanced our way. And then we waited and waited to order food. And this is the first time we encountered her! don't care to have to deal with this one anymore. And I won't. If I walk in the bar area and she's there? I'm leaving. And spend my usual $150 or more somewhere else, where I feel like they want me to be there. And my friends witnessed this both times with her. Have been there three times in the last 2 weeks and once during Covid. I thought my less than par food was due to Covid set-backs, but no.... the last three times I did not choose seafood and both my guest and I were very disappointed. Lack of flavor, poor procedure (as in whole grain slider buns that we too much bread, since they had not been grilled or steamed, and, the meat had a very, very strange texture....like a paste was added???? Roast beef sandwich, was not. It was a soggy, mushed chipped steak on a hoagie roll... the roll was delicious, same as Premo's! I did have calamari as an app all four times and it was crispy, but not much flavor. Also, fries done in Canola ANYWHERE are not good... dry and flavorless! I've been here a handful of times and always had very, very good service. The food quality is higher and they have a good choice of drinks to choose from. The only detraction I can provide whatsoever is, I am a huge raw oyster fan and you would think being that this is an oyster bar that their oysters would be banging. The ones that I got were slightly larger than my thumb. Could have been an off week. Could have been from a fisherman who didn't care what his pull was that day but what was on my plate was pretty small is all I'm saying. Was driving back to my hotel when I drove past Ludwig's Grill & Oyster Bar. The patio was just too inviting to pass up. I wasn't in the mood for a traditional meal and I am a sucker for French onion soup. I decided to pair the soup with the BLT flatbread. The French onion was top notch and the flatbread was good as well. The beer list was decent and I found a good grapefruit beer perfect for the patio. My daughter and I have been coming here since about 2 years ago. We live about half hour away, but the drive is not difficult. We really enjoy sitting on the patio. We both enjoy the food- she loves the oysters and Chicken Chesapeake. It is a treat to come some weekdays during the summer when they have a fabulous lobster special. Drinks are hearty and well made. Service is always very pleasant and professional. Parking is easy. I know there are other choices in the area, but Ludwig's is a real find. read more

Usually a nice place to stop by but this past week was served by a bartender named Sabrina. Myself and our friends could tell she was just going through the motions, so to speak. No smile, barely engaging. Didn't bother to check on us. And to try to get her attention?? How can you do that when she's halfway down the bar from us and never looks our way?? The menu is pretty dated. The food is also fairly bland. The quality is not bad but I suspect they cater to an older customer base. Make sure to ask for some Tabasco to kick it up a notch.
