So, I figured why not update my previous five star review? I love love love Tanya and every service I have with her is amazing!! I truly feel like my membership is 100% due to her being at this location!! In my world, she is the best with her blow drying skills and she always has my curls looking fabulous. In addition, she always has such good advice on which Oribe products would look best on my hair. Thanks to her, I feel like I have a lot more Oribe in my bathroom! Haha! So I had to edit my review because the guy that saw me was amazing and is the only reason I'm still a member and changed it from 1 star to 4. I'm a member and I booked my appointment for 7:45AM so I wouldn't be late for work. Someone walked in after me and was clearly not a member because they had never even been here but yet they got service before me. I will be canceling my membership. Why would you put in your cancelation policy you need to be here 15 min early if they are ALWAYS RUNNING WAY LATE. I needed a place to do my hair for my engagement photos. I check on yelp and found this place close to home. Here is my problem: I have lots and lots of hair so I am a little hesitant to have anyone do my hair and sometimes, I feel like I get charged much more because I have too much hair. It's like a punishment to have more hair than the average head. I call them and asked if I will get charged more for my thick hair. They told me "no" so I was good with that. When I get to the place, they ask me if I was someone else. I say, "no". I tell them who I am, they tell me to have a seat, and ignored me after that. The girl they were looking for gets there and they treat her great! They ask if she wants fruit infused water, coffee, tea, maybe a "massage". I'm kidding about the massage part but damn...she gets great service. No one asks me if I want some damn fruit infused water, tea, or coffee! It would of been nice to be asked if I wanted that crap! Even my stylist doesn't ask me. He just starts working on my hair. I tell him I want beach waves. He starts shampooing my hair and digging his nails and fingers in my hair that it hurt!!! Was he trying to kill the invisible lice in my head?! Then he starts blowing out my hair. The blowdryer got close to my head sometimes that my scalp felt like it was burning. Then here comes the curling iron. That went well...phew. It took only thirty minutes and I wished he was more gentle, careful and took his time. The total bill = $45 + tip! To me, I think that's insane for someone who only took thirty minutes! Overall,I give this place three stars because my hair turned out fabulous and my pictures looked amazing! If it didn't turn out great, I would give this place one star. read more

I am a huge, huge fan of blow dry bars and with DryBar being added to central Phx, I was glad to see Primp and Blow join the fray. This place is located in the shopping center by the new Nordstrom Rack. It is decorated bright, modern, and comfortable. I have come to this location twice with very inconsistent results. Both times, the girls didn't realize I had added a deep-conditioning treatment to my blow dry reservation (when reserving online). I don't know if this oversight lies with the front desk or what but it is annoying to have to tell the girls doing my hair when they are done washing it. I always choose the straight style (since I have curly hair). The first time I came, my hair was straight but it looked really fried when we were done. I was really puzzled because usually my hair looks amazing when I leave those places. This last time, I chose the same service and my hair looked really great. I was very pleased. You can also enjoy a glass of wine, mimosa, or water while having your hair done. Overall, I would try it again but gave 3 stars because of the first poor experience and second really good experience. read more

Rachel is amazing and she really knows what she is doing. I have very thick curly hair and she just rocked it. My hair looks exactly how I love it. I highly reccomend this blow bar and specifically suggest coming to Rachel. It was my 1st time and she just washed my hair so well and massaged it and used great product. If you read any of my other reviews, most start out by saying the business was discovered on Groupon. This one is no exception. I had heard of this type of service, but was a bit skeptical, especially having thick hair. Definitely not paying sticker price for something I was hesitant on. Figured a date night with the bf would be a good time to have it done, so I scheduled for this past Saturday at 6pm, their latest appointment I was told. I got there a few minutes prior, and was actually taken back 10 minutes late. No biggy, gave me a chance to look at their wall of goodies and other services. The young gal at the front was nice, and I thought it was a nice touch they had infused water to offer, although I opted not to as I brought a water with me. I do not recall the ladies name that did my hair, but I think she was a manager. At least sounded like it when chatting with the other girls. The chair for the shampoo/mask/massage I found uncomfortable, although the massage itself was lovely. I'll give it that much lol. The actual blow drying part of it, I guess is just that. Used with a barrel brush, she wrapped each section after blow drying it, to help hold the curl. I have thick heavy layered hair, wasn't sure what she would be able to do. I do think the end result was pretty. The boyfriend liked it, so that's a plus. However, for what you get, I would never ever ever pay asking price for that service. I believe for the shampoo mask massage and blowout it retailed at 70, maybe 60. I paid 22, and honestly, with my cheap ass, that was more than enough. She said ide get a few days of the look, if I dry shampoo it, which I do. I barely got 24 hours of the look. Probably not totally her fault, as I have thick hair, and of course slept on it. I would come back with another groupon, but not without a special occasion happening. I think the retail price is crazy, and I cant believe people do that stuff on a regular basis. I've been to this location only once and bought my mom a gift card here last year for her birthday. My mom loved it! She went before her birthday dinner and was treated like a queen. For my appt: I'm running maybe a minute late getting to the salon, and a girl answers hello? And I ask, is this prim and blow? And she had to apologize and then say her whole greeting talk off to answering the phone again- kinda weird. Don't believe me? Listen to the recorded line from October 31st. First of all, if you are working the front desk- that means it is your responsibility to be the face of the company and to be friendly and to smile EVEN if the customer is wrong. This was a surprise present from my mother and fiancé at the time to get my hair done, and they even booked for my makeup. Since it was a surprise, I was dropped off at my appointment with my makeup done already for my bridal shower. Because I didn't know that my makeup was booked as well, I told them that I would just do hair. This seemed to be a problem to the guy at the front desk. He looked about 5"9, 6 ft tall, tan, dark hair.. didn't grab his name but he clearly showed that he was not happy that I messed up their schedule for the morning. Dude, don't give me any 'tude! I thought this was supposed to help brides during this crazy time!! The girl that did my hair was great and helped my experience. The rest of my time there went well, but I noticed I was the only one there for awhile with other stylists waiting around. 1-2 more ladies came in before I left. As I checked out, the front desk, the same guy, still was not friendly to me at all. Another customer was behind me, and as he gave me my change he didn't even greet me have a nice day or thanks for coming in or would you like a receipt?, he just rudely started talking to the next customer. I don't think I'll come here again or at least to this location. He made me feel unwelcome and almost embarrassed of myself. I've had better experience at The Dry Bar. My stylist was very kind and my hair looked lovely when I left, HOWEVER my hair had WAYYYYYY to much product in it, to the point that it looked worse than normal the next morning because it was so sticky/crunchy. With tip, $50 for a blowout and style that lasted half a day. My stylist also ripped through my wet hair with a vengeance. I have a tough head so it didn't hurt so bad in the moment, but my head actually feels bruised the next day. I've never experienced that in my life. Left this place in tears only to have to go home and fix the mess Sherill made! This was my 2nd time at the Camelback/20th st location since they opened...still horrible service. My appt was at 1:30pm and I didn't get seen until 1:50, and Sherill didn't even apologize for the wait. I booked my appt online and all that was available was a "Dry style" which meant I was to come with my hair clean and dry & they would style it. I told Sherill I wanted loose waves and NO ringlets. She said "so you basically don't know what you want" and proceeded to take me to wash my hair. I had to stop her and tell her I already washed and dried my hair per my reservation!!! She looked confused and said she was going to curl my hair like she curls hers. Isn't this place called Primp & Blow?!?! I was expecting her to round brush my hair...and didn't I just say I didn't want ringlets?!?!? She curled my hair and tried to sing to Jhene Aiko. I was too upset to say anything at this point after the long wait and her insults about my frizzy hair and not knowing what I wanted. At the end she showed me the ringlets in the mirror and kept saying how "bomb" my hair is...which is true but clearly she does not have a clue how to style my "bomb" hair. She asked if I wanted her to comb through the ringlets and I said YES! I guess that was her version of waves. As I was getting styled I noticed there are some talented stylists in there but I was not lucky to have one today...New Years Eve! When Sherill was done I wished her a Happy New Year and she said TTYL...what's wrong with her? No people skills whatsoever or she purposefully avoids social cues. The Camelback/20th st Primp & Blow should be more selective when hiring, training, and for future evaluations! I have never had a bad experience at the Primp & Blow on High Street or at any of the Dry Bars (competitor)! At least the receptionist was apologetic in the beginning when I wasn't seen on time and at the end. I was surprised she asked me how my service was, but I was even more so surprised that she actually listened to me when I told her that I didn't like my hair or my service and that Sherill tried to wash my "clean & dry" hair. She even took off $10 from my bill which was nice. I know it was a busy day for them, but good customer service takes into account the customers time as well! I made the appt, arrived early, but my day was thrown off course because Sherril was running behind AND now I still have to do my own hair for tonight! read more

I was able to make an appointment online for the very next day. (Booking online is always a plus for me!) I arrived a few minutes early and was taken right back to a chair and offered a mimosa. We talked a few minutes about my hair and what style I was looking for, and then the stylist took me back for a shampoo. I opted for a blow dry with a braid add-on and my hair turned out great! If I lived in Houston I would be tempted to come back every week. My only suggestion is to open a location in Phoenix. read more

I had a horrible experience with a groupon. I bought a groupon that included hair, makeup and lashes. I was given a choice of lashes. When I was checking out, I was never informed that the lashes I chose were not part of the groupon. The website, board I chose the lashes from, or the people working there informed me that there would be an additional cost. They charged me $30 extra dollars. I asked for a refund, but was denied because "the lashes can't be used on someone else". I am so disappointed and am warning everyone not to go here read more

First time ever at this location. I did not have an appt. I called and they gave in one 45 min later. That was awesome. Great location right on Camelback. My how Town and Country has changed. For the better I might add as well. Anyway , lots of great parking right in front.The place is beautiful inside. All Tiffany Blue and white. I love the Blow dryers hanging down from the ceiling. I am sure that makes it much easier for the stylists. I had the Pleasure of having Raquel as my stylist. She gave me a wonderful scalp massage and shampoo. Then she did one of the Best Blow Drys I have ever had. Loved it and well worth the price! I see you can buy packages so if you want to go a lot you save $$. I got a blowout yesterday (shampoo, blowout, & hot tool) and asked for extra curl. I also warned him that my hair was very straight and does not take curls unless the temperature is hot.My appt was at 8:15 & it finished at 9:10 ish. He used a smaller brush to make the curl last but it CLEARLY didn't work. I had my senior photos being taken at 11:30 and by the end of my shoot my hair was straight again!! This was my first blowout and clearly my last. Why would I spend $50 on a hairdo that i could've done at home that would have lasted until the end of the day. read more

Sydney's hair turned out beautiful, exactly as she hoped it would look! The stylists really listen To what you want, and it's so quick and easy to make an appointment and be in and out, yet there is no feeling of being rushed here, very luxurious and pampering experience! My stylist is Heidi, and she is so talented and educated along with the best personality, full of energy and ideas and her styling techniques are amazing! I made an appointment for a blow dry online for 10 am. I received a text and an email confirmation. On arriving at 10 am I was told my appointment was for 10.35 am and I would have to wait, in a unapologetic fashion. I went to the awesome trader joes around the corner and arrived at 10.33 am, to see that they already had taken 2 clients.... My hair was started at 10.55 am or so. The blowdry was mediocre. To the owners credit, she did offer me a buy one, get one free deal which I declined, but has not replied to my email. I would have preferred a sincere apology. Go to the DryBar on 32nd! My stylist did an OK job in drying and styling my hair, but having to listen to her belt out Mariah Carey for the first half of my appointment and then listen to her and another stylist rap obscenities along to a radio station that I'm almost positive is not on the approved playlist, I will go elsewhere. What is it about a good hair day that can change you from a grumpy introvert to beaming beacon of confidence and sass? I can't explain it, but I don't need to. I'm sure we've all experienced it. You can walk into Primp and Blow in a two day old ponytail and walk out with a red-carpet ready, voluminous mane. I know- It happened to me! When you first enter this dry bar, you are transported into a land of style and luxury. The decor is impeccable, and the retail is top notch. After my check in, I was introduced to my stylist Roman for a quick consult. I told him I like big volume, soft waves and I hate pomade- I have to be able to run my fingers through it! He said no problem at all, and took me back to the shampoo area. That's where things got real. I then had the best shampoo/scalp massage I have ever experienced, and I'm not even exaggerating. It was nothing short of heavenly. It must have lasted at least 10 minutes, and I'm pretty sure I dozed off. Afterwards, he showed me some products he was going to use. He didn't go overboard at my request. They use Bumble and Bumble which is really top of the line stuff. He styled my hair to perfection and I was super happy with the result. He listened to what I wanted and totally delivered. Not to mention being super fun to talk to. One of the girls in the chair next to me had enviable cascades of beautiful blonde hair that looked breathtaking when she left. Roman was great, and it looks like the other stylists are awesome too. I have a horrible experience. The stylist was untrained and only knew how to dry and curl using a round brush and blow dryer. She worked on my hair for an hour and it was not even styled when I had to leave. I was told the manager was not in until the next day and the owner that was there walked in and out during my hour of torture. I have been impressed with the Primp and Blow on the waterfront. But will never go back unless I personally observe a stylist prior to sitting in the chair. Train/test the staff before you let them on the floor. read more

I used my groupon here as I was a bit skeptical at first about these establishments. I was 5 mins late for my appt (not typical of me) but the place was empty at 3 pm so she was still able to take me as soon as I walked in. I'm not a high maintenance girl but I do like to pamper myself from time to time. Katie B was a fantastic stylist. She was friendly, attentive to my wants (not a lot of "goop" in my hair please and oh...don't tease it either) and made my time there very enjoyable with conversation. It's very difficult for anyone to straighten my curly, thick hair but Katie at Primp and Blow did an awesome job. I simply went in b/c I had purchased a groupon and thought "why not?". I have now gone back several times to see her and have even gone before big events (before I would not have trusted anyone to prep my hair for an important event).
