The couple running this place make a big deal about being Christian, but they treat their help really poorly. There were two girls from Romania and Bulgaria working there, who weren't allowed to smoke cigarettes or drink, on their own time, elsewhere (they were of age), plus they had to be in bed at 9PM or they would be sent back to their home countries. Apart from that, the place is really nice and sparkling clean. Still, I couldn't stay there again in good conscience knowing they treat their workers like that. read more

SUCH a nice experience. The rooms are charming and so nicely appointed. The breakfast and tea service daily at 4 is really top notch. Melissa and staff are beyond accommodating. Fantastic location, walking distance to so many great must-experience places, easiest parking EVER, current DVD's, lush robes, great directions and recommendations from the staff. It's not too often that I write a glowing review of an establishment I've visited but, in this instance, the Primrose Inn is well-worth the five stars. When my husband and I arrived at the Inn, we were tuckered out from a 4 hour drive. Luckily, we arrived just in time to catch the tail end of "afternoon tea" which included a large pitcher of lemonade, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and a fresh baked apple tart. That was just the beginning of our overwhelmingly pleasant experience. Anticipating every possible need their guests may have had, the owners offered the following: - GPS systems available for loan to guests with addresses of local restaurants pre-programmed into them. - Several Kindles loaded with reading material. - A large bookcase full of books. - A wall of current DVDs, organized by recent Oscar winners and "almost winners." - Free sodas and pretzels available to guests. In addition to that, a delicious homemade breakfast was included in the price. One thing that stood out to me was how sparkling clean the room was, down to the fixtures in the bathroom, tiles, carpet, etc...there was literally no indication that other guests had stayed in the room prior to us! I have been to much pricier hotels that were not as attentive to cleanliness as this inn was so I was impressed. It truly felt like we were staying at the home of very generous and hospitable friends. Not an experience you would get from a hotel chain. read more

This is by far the best B&B we have stayed at. The staff is SO friendly, the room could not be any more comfortable and clean. The breakfast is made fresh. Probably the best part of the stay was the check in experience...Mary offered us WARM, homemade cookies upon arrival, presented our room and then gave us a personal tour of the grounds. We fell in love with the Primrose Inn and we can't wait to return!! read more

A friend and I went up to BH this August for a fun outdoorsy trip. This is the place to stay! The staff there is extremely friendly and hospitable. We had a great room, well decorated. The AC unit was a little weird, but got it working. The inn is very close to the shops/town of BH and we would always walk there every night for food/shopping. The breakfast was great! They provided a great variety of foods and beverages. They also seemed very accommodating the guests with special needs (there were some vegans there!). They had a lot of great recommendations for places to go/see. They provided afternoon tea/coffee/dessert which was a great thing to tide you over til dinner that night. Another great thing they provided was books/movies/kindles/hiking guides, etc. It was also great that they provided complimentary water/soda in a little fridge on the first floor. If I ever make it back up to BG (Hopefully!), I will stay here again! read more

When traveling my wife and I most often stay at Bed and Breakfasts, so to say this was our best ever experience carries some gravitas. For the uninitiated, use this place as a reference of a great B&B experience at a reasonable price. Trip Advisor has this rated as the top 3rd B&B in Bar Harbor and, while not having experience the top 2, Primrose is tops in our book. The staff was very well informed, gracious and exceedingly helpful, ambiance and design were simple and down east elegant, food was fantastic, afternoon tea was delightful. Very clean with well appointed and modern rooms. AC is whisper quiet, location is very convenient. Dining room is a tad tough to navigate, small chairs and pedestal tables would help. After 25 years, my return to Bar Harbor with my bride was simply Maine at its best. SR read more

We stayed at the Primrose for our honeymoon in June 2012. It was our first experience at a B&B, and it was just wonderful! The staff was super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Besides the excellent breakfasts, the inn provides lots of other amenities, like a fridge stocked with free drinks, tons of brochures organized on a large bookshelf by subject, lots of DVDs, including all of the Best Picture winners since 1980, cake/tea/coffee in the afternoons, Wi-Fi, umbrellas, etc. etc. Our only complaint was the time of the afternoon cake/tea, which was from 4 to 6 p.m. Perhaps this is a normal "tea time" but we found it too close to dinner time. But, we really can't complain about cake, which was delish! The location was also great, being just about 2 blocks or so from the Village Green. The rooms were priced very reasonably compared to other Bar Harbor B&Bs, and were very comfortable and nicely decorated. We'll definitely stay here again should we ever be back in Bar Harbor! read more

We loved Primrose! We stayed for a week in Bar Harbor for our honeymoon and spent 3 nights at Primrose. The staff went above and beyond, breakfast felt extremely personal and well done, and there were resources for anything you'd want to see... not to mention the rooms were adorable! We stayed at Bar Harbor Inn the last night because we wanted to splurge for our honeymoon and we were so sad when we realized Primrose had been a much better choice. Highly recommend this over the high end hotels that are overpriced and run down. read more

The Primrose was the best possible place to stay in Acadia! Brendan, the innkeeper, was an absolute gem and provided his phone number to all who were staying so we could call with any troubles or just for recommendations to eat or where to hike! The entire rest of the staff were also incredible and so kind. We were there during Halloween and they put little gift bags on our doors with candy and a Halloween card- so thoughtful and adorable! The included breakfast was some of the best breakfasts I've ever had and they have tea time from around 4-6 pm which was absolutely charming and lovely. Everything was so clean and they were working very hard to keep everyone safe during COVID-19. Everyone was wearing masks, tables were cleaned between people using them and cleaning room service was only upon request. It is close to the center of Bar Harbor (within walking distance) and it is a 5-10 minute drive to the one way road that takes you all around Acadia National Park! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Primrose Squad! Definitely stay here if you are going to Bar Harbor! read more

Could not have asked for a better place to stay!! We stayed in the Leffingwell Room and it was beautiful! We enjoyed many nights on the private porch connected to the room. The breakfast was fresh and unique every morning, also including free treats everyday at tea time between 4-6. The innkeepers were extremely welcoming and provided guests with ample information regarding town, transportation, and available activities! Could not have asked for a more perfect place to stay in Bar Harbor!! Easy walking distance downtown! read more

We could not be more pleased with our stay. Staff are very attentive. We stayed in the hotel portion and it is lovely. We were last minute folks who showed up noticing vacancy online. They immediately accommodated for the same reasonable price as advertised online, and did so with a smile. Rooms are clean. Beds are comfy and the porches are great spots to sit and relax after a day of exploring. The location also can't be beat! Don't hesitate give this spot a try. read more

My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary with a stay at this lovely inn. I chose the Primrose because of it's outstanding reviews, apparently earned under the previous owners. The new owner (since April 2012), seems to have maintained all the positives instituted by the previous owners (complimentary GPSs, Kindles, newspapers, tour CDs) and added her own personal touches. The new living and dining room furnishings are lovely, the breakfast and tea offerings were absolutely delicious, and the hospitality and helpfulness, cleanliness and charm outstanding. The WiFi worked perfectly in both the common rooms and the private rooms. The bed was super comfortable and we had a private porch accessible via french doors directly from our room (#8) with two very comfortable rocking chairs. In additional there was a shared porch with bistro tables for enjoying morning coffee, breakfast, or afternoon tea and cake if you didn't want to sit in the very comfortable dining room. About the ONLY things which could possibly have been improved were: 1) the very small TV in our room - but it was flat screen and had a built-in DVD player which worked well and 2) the fairly tiny bathroom - but it was very nicely appointed with super-plush Turkish towels, and there was PLENTY of hot water. We had a truly delightful visit. read more

This was our first B&B experience, so I don't have anything to compare it to - but if every B&B is like this -- you can consider us converted! I feel like it's hard for me to be very impressed with hotel, etc. experiences because I've stayed in so many since I travel for work... but the Primrose Inn really blew me away from the minute we got there. The employees there are all so warm and friendly, you really feel like you're staying over at a good friend's home and being taken care of. We got a tour of the entire place upon check in. From the dining room with tea time (the cookies and cakes are so good!), home cooked breakfast in the morning (I usually hate waking up in the morning, but I jumped out of bed first thing each day just in anticipation of eating their amazing breakfasts), kindles loaded with NYT for reading, DVD library, books, snack bar... this inn was nothing short of amazing. I used to think, looking at pictures, that B&B's were sometimes creepy looking - like something out of a horror film - but I was so wrong (well, there might be some that are... but Primrose is not one of those!) The rooms were immaculately clean, the mattresses were heavenly, and there was so much space! We borrowed a dvd from their collection every night before bed, it was just so relaxing and quiet. It really was like staying in a good friend's home... there was nothing the staff there had not thought of to make your stay more comfortable... including a full collection of guide books and maps to the area. They even provide you with an audio tour to play in your car while driving through Acadia! The location of the inn is also perfect - it's only a 5 minute walk from the main area of downtown and the weather was beautiful when we stayed there, so we walked as much as we could and loved it. The area the inn is located in just makes you feel like you could really get to know the area and people - we akin-ed it to the old tv show "Gilmore Girls." I will definitely come back on our next trip up to Bar Harbor and recommend this to friends hands down. read more

We are not big fans of B&Bs, but three days at Primrose gained new respect for enterprises like Primrose that focus their energy on seeing that their guests are treated with care and concern. Everything you could need is provided, breakfast was done with a special touch, complimentary drinks in small fridge, afternoon tea, etc. A great testament to Primrose is the number of repeat guests they serve, I know when we return to Bar Harbor we will stay at Primrose. read more
