Print Icon has the capabilities to produce some pretty amazing looking work. Overall, the print quality is impressive (the indigo printing is fantastic). However, their customer service is so egregious that I cannot recommend them. My two experiences (yes, I tried them two separate times) resulted in misprints, scratched prints, late jobs, misplaced jobs, bad attitudes, and being forced to wait for much too long while several seemingly clueless people ran around looking confused. Again, the prints are good, but the pain-and money-required to get them make Print Icon a no-go in my book. read more

Great quality printing with decent selection of papers. Offers customized letterpress and various offset and odd printing arrangements upon request. They will tackle most jobs that average printers can't comprehend (keep this in mind for unique invitations). Pricey but for the area and for what they do, it is fair and top quality. They have quality designers on staff, but highly recommend doing your own design work, and do a proof at Kinko's for a a dollar or two (PI charges $25 for a proof!!), if you can get a good proof out of Kinko's, then when you get your stuff printed up at Print Icon it will look stunning. Their design services are extremely expensive for not having much interaction. I recommend these guys if you want to have someone local doing your printing (not having jobs outsourced). The customer service is hit or miss, but that is to be expected in NYC. The whole being vague about price quotes is a bit off-putting when trying to budget your project. Essentially, they are not the friendliest or most organized, but way better that everywhere else in the city I have tried using. read more

Print icon was the only invitation shop that my best friend and I visited that had the capability to do an on site press check. I had picked a somewhat obscure printing method (foil stamping) for my invites, and no one else that we visited could even do what we asked. I made sure to leave a lot of extra time to iron out all of the printing details and for them to do the job. I guess if you're on a tight deadline and need something obscure, I'm not sure if they could guarantee your work would be done. I'm looking forward to press check and seeing my invites :) read more

Overall, the final product I received was of high quality (personalized stationery). My rating reflects the customer service and the amount of effort and follow-up required on my part to understand the timing of my order. I placed my order on a Saturday and Vahid told me that I would receive the proof to approve on Monday and that the order would be complete by the following Saturday. By Tuesday evening, when I hadn't received any communication from Print Icon, I emailed the shop inquiring about the status of the proof. They then replied to my email with the proof, which I approved that night. Assuming that with my approval that my order would be ready by Saturday, when Saturday came around, I called ahead to the store to ensure that it was ready. Vahid needed to research the status of my order and when he called back he explained that it wouldn't be ready until the following Wednesday. It was the second time that timelines were not met. During that phone call, Vahid asked if he could deliver the order to my building when it was ready. The following Wednesday, it was ready as he promised. At this point, it was the first time a stated timeline was met. Overall, my recommendation is that Print Icon can provide better customer service by providing better estimates of timing. If something is delayed, they should reach out to the customer indicating when things will be ready as opposed to the customer chasing this down. read more

After going through dozens of wedding invitation catalogues ( none that featured any options me appropriate for a same sex couple ) , meeting with several printers in the area and working with a graphic designer all to no avail, I met Vahid and he helped me finalize and print the perfect wedding invitation that me and my partner love ! First off, the graphic team at Print Icon helped fix a few design flaws of my original invitation and rsvp card design. Next, Vahid made some really creative suggestions on how best to complete the overall packaging as well as unique material to use that enhanced the overall look plus saved us some money. Finally they printed the work beautifully and on time. I dealt with her the several days I was in the shop and she was both helpful and informative; she also called whenever there was a problem or just to give updates. WORST EXPERIENCE. Maybe I was extremely unlucky and was assigned someone to my project who was not capable of following instructions but the project took over 2 weeks and required me following up constantly to get an answer. Timelines were never shared and when they were, they were not adhered to. And to top it off, after I picked up the "final pieces," several were missing. I had to follow-up multiple times to get a hold of someone who said "we found them and shipped them to you" but when I asked for confirmation that they were the exact pieces missing they said "we don't know, it was shipped out." The only reason I did not pull the job completely and request a refund was because of a lovely person named Care, who was amazing. She called to give me a heads up that the project was in my inbox for final approval, and gave me clear instructions of when feedback/approval was needed to make my deadline. She was able to turn around the job that took 2 weeks of back and forth within 24 HOURS, which just goes to show how painfully disorganized the original project owner is and how I am extremely thankful that I will never have to go there again. Paper/envelope selection is more limited but IMHO better than Paper Presentation (better colors, more sizes). Staff is utterly useless. I'm having a hard time finding envelopes in the size and color I want, so I talk to a very nice girl who says they do custom envelopes, in any color I want. When I'm finishing up my purchase of some other envelopes, I ask another woman and she says I have to pick from the paper they have on display-- not nearly "every color." I find a decent color (not perfect, but acceptable) and another staff member says yes, they will cut envelopes to size-- talk to *that* guy. After at least 45 minutes or an hour of being jumbled between employees, a rude guy finally told me the truth-- if I wanted a size they didn't have out, they would have to make a new plate in the size I was looking for-- and my 100 envelopes would cost at least $400. He rolled his eyes and said "It's not worth it" and then moved on to another customer. It was a total waste of my time, but now that I know not to actually utilize the staff, I can appreciate the great color and size choices. read more

Vahid and his company are a highly reputable printing company in New York City. I trust them to get my portfolio printed and they have no minimums, as many other high end printers do. They also have the highly coveted HP Indigo printer that prints WHITE ink. This printer does not have toner, so you don't have that shiny effect on photographs that you get with all the other laser printers. This bad boy costs half a million bucks, so you definitely get what you pay for. After scoping out at least ten other printers in the city, I decided to go with Print Icon for their quality, reputation, turnaround time (2 days) and affordable pricing. Print Icon is the best! We had been looking for a printer to partner with on our wedding invites. My fiance is a designer and made a beautiful suite for our invitations. We tried quite a few places to get them printed before meeting Vahid. All the other places couldn't bother to care that this was the most important piece of stationary we had ever printed, and couldn't deliver on any of the details we wanted. We walked into print icon after a day full of failed attempts and met Vahid - he talked us through our options, letting us know how we could achieve our (expensive) look for the lowest possible price. The proofs (which were free unlike other places) came fast and were available for pickup the next day. We were able to email with Leon on last minute changes we had to make - and then our complete order was packed up and ready to go in a few short days. I was working with a friend to design our wedding invitations and after pricing out three print shops in Manhattan, we decided to go with Print Icon. I was able to come in and get free samples of different colors and weights of paper. Once we put our order in, the turnaround time was quicker than expected and our invitations are frame-worthy! The photos don't do them justice! We even wanted to print the back of our invitation in Mandarin Chinese which Print Icon was able to accommodate. We did have a small issue with our RSVP cards and envelopes but Print Icon was quick to correct their error. When I came to pick them up and they weren't yet ready, Ana did everything she could to make sure that they were delivered to us before we left NYC. Kudos to Ana for going out of her way to make sure that this stressed out bride was able to leave town with all her beautiful invitations in hand. THANK YOU!! We will be back next month to print out our menus and escort cards. Side note: my brother and sister-in-law also had their invitations printed at Print Icon for their wedding five years ago and they were and are still stunning. i think i had fantasies about this place... it is INDEED- a graphic designer's "wet dream". whenever i'd make a trip to Paper Presentation next door, i'd take a glance at Print Icon and keep walking. i know if i ever stepped foot in there... i would end up with dirt poor. however, after months of attempting to ignore all the beautiful handmade paper, prints, and innovative gift options in the display window- i decided to finally take leap. it was exactly what i anticipated. it's amazing. it's cool. it's... inexpensive?!?! what a treat to this starving graphic designer. heheh. it's one of my favorites places in the neighborhood. i come here to get inspiration or just to fill my designer's void... love it, love it, love it. read more

i originally had a 5 star review for this place. well... thats changing right now. i went to this place a few weeks ago to get my wedding invites letter pressed. the guy there gave me a quote of a REALLY reasonable price. So i told him i would be back the next week with the file and ready to print. when i went in that next week, i was told that price was wrong. and i needed to add abour 300-400 dollars to the pricetag. and i was told if i didn't like that price, to go somewhere else. needless to say i lost my mind and went off on them. i had a signed quote from them and they were not honoring it. i said i would be sure to let everyone know about this place and to stay away. the owner came over finally and told the guy to honor his wrong price, and looked at me and made me promise i would write a glowing review. he kept his end of the bargain, and i kept mine. well... i just went in there with a file set up on an 8.5x11. my menus are 5.25"x5.25". that way i could cut the $ of copies from 150 double sided to 75 double sided. he told me (with extreme annoyance in his voice) that they dont print that way. they print on large paper (11x17) and then trim it down for people as needed. so i asked him to print my 8.5x11 file and then cut according to the lines. i was told "nahhhhh we dont really do that here. you want a copy shop." I said "so just to be clear, you want to take my 5.25" square file, print ONE per 11x17, cut it, then throw away all that paper? he just looked at me with dead eyes and said "yup". so basically, i cant in good conscious send other people to this place. whether i got a couple hundred off a bill or not (that was really their fault anyway). STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! these people are extremely money hungry and dont really try to HELP you, so much as screw you for as much money as they can get. STAY. AWAY. read more

If yelp had an option for zero or negative stars that's what Print Icon deserves. Worst customer service ever! Would think a shop like them would have better service than Kinkos but I have to say they're far worse. I once went in there asking if they can help me cut 20 sheets of paper. I just needed 11x17 sheets cut into 11x14 sheets. TWO cuts on the guillotine and the owner/manager charged me $15!!! Ridiculous! Another frustrating instance. I sent a file through to them at 10am asking if they can print it for me by end of day (I only needed 10 pages done) and the guy told me they' have a quote for me in 20 minutes. Come 3pm still no quote. I called many times to follow up and all they said was they can't do anything for me until they had an estimate. 5pm they called me back saying 'sorry we can't do anything for u by the end of today.' 6pm he emails me a quote. $195 for 10 sheets of printing and some trims! I got the same job done at another printer for $39 bucks and they were way nicer and more helpful. Forget this place. This city doesn't need an unhelpful and rude shop like Print Icon. read more

I had some artwork I did printed 6x6 on heavy paper stock. The girl at the counter who gave me a quote (Tina) was very knowledgeable and nice. I sent over the files requested and boom, a day or two later I went to pick up my items. WOW, I was SHOCKED at how nice it all turned out!!! The quality makes me look like a real pro! I rushed over to Print Icon after dropping my son off at school to return the proof I had taken to show my client for their wedding invitation. I thought that Print Icon would be able to make the small change of darkening a particular font but it turned out that I had to go back into my file and come back again to see another proof. I suddenly felt overwhelmed by the thought of having to go back and forth with the little time and budget that I had and actually broke down in front of the owner, Vahid. He empathized that I was a mother and actually, "Because I'm actually a softie" that he let me work with one of the designers to fix the issue there and print out a proof on the house. They went far and beyond to make sure my file was correct. I couldn't have asked for a better customer service and quality of work from anyone else. I should have listened to my friends from SVA when they told me to avoid that place. They are famous for messing up orders and not keeping deadlines and charging for reprinting orders they messed up and messing up again (like cutting in half postcards that are supposed to be folded). As far as the quality it's the same as any other print shop, I didn't see any difference. So not only they were late with order twice and I came there for nothing twice but the owner had the nerve to tell me that I was wasting his time when I asked what time my prints would be ready for pick up. Before I told them two copies of my portfolio, when he called me to pick it up, he only give me one, and said I don't know what you are talking about for two copies... finally he found out it was his fault... but after I checked the book he already printed, its order was all wrong! very obvious mistake, he just print all my page number to inside, and when he bind it he even didn't think about it! it's just so disappointed!!! and they even had bad attitude!!! The place is overpriced, the quality is nothing special ( i did digital print - you can't mess that up), the customer service is pretty bad. Their online system doesn't work, so don't even waste your time uploading your files there. They didn't tell me that their online system doesn't work, so I lost 2 days waiting to hear from them about my invitations. Turns out they never got my order or files. They were annoyed with ME for that! I had very simple wedding invitations, I set up the files properly , with crop marks and bleed marks. Beyond frustrated with this place. Brought cards in after trying 2 different online services. My card design incorporates a thin border around the edge of the card. I told the owner at print icon that i was very concerned that the border wouldn't be even on all sides (since it was off with the online printers I had tried). He assured me they would be perfect. When I picked them up and looked at the cards, the borders were off as I'd anticipated and the print quality was about as good as if I'd printed them on my own printer. For $500 - yes, that's about $1 per card. I expected much more! Whatever happened to good old quality control?! read more

Lesser known because it's on the same block as Paper Presentation, this store packs a lot of the same paper products as PP, sometimes cheaper. They don't have as much arts and crafts items as PP, but their paper and envelope section would satisfy any graphic designer looking for inspiration. read more

This company is completely unreliable. I requested an estimate 3x before receiving a response. I was told to set up an appt with a designer. I requested an appt by email 2x... with no response. I called with no return call. I finally went to the shop and the designer told me she didn't have any time how about I send her my design and she will print it up at the hourly rate of $135. Print Icon is reasonably priced and full service, they can do design, letterpress, flat, embossing, mail merge etc. Their typical turnaround times are very quick, so there's no need to pay a rush fee which you may be asked to at other print shops. They have option where if you bring in artwork in any format there's no design fee, only the cost to print. Appears to be solid family business, experts in their industry and willing to do a little more to impress and retain customers. read more

I didn't even know this place existed until I had to come here for a project and I may need to get a lobotomy to forget this place exists before I end up with a room full of paper.
