The only reason why I deducted a star is because some of our orders were slightly off (I.e., asked for no gravy but gravy was added, didn't receive the muffins in our to-go order). The cornbread was dry & crumbly, the pork greens were undercooked & other than a spicy kick lacked any flavor, the gravy was flavorless, and the dressing was mushy no texture at all, the only discernable flavor was salt. The string beans were stringy. The chicken was crispy, the breast was juicy, but the thigh & wing were dry. The portions are good. The staff was friendly, but incredibly slow. Don't fall for the "discount if paying cash", it doesn't exist. Either the cashier pocketed the money or it's just complete bs. I thought it odd that she was ringing all the other orders in the system but then suddenly started writing my order. I insisted on a receipt & when she keyed everything there was no discount. Its possible the wording is incorrect & should say there is a 3% card fee rather than a 3% discount. read more

I catered my son's graduation party from here. I ordered potato salad that was basically a bowl of mashed potatoes, peach cobbler which was canned peaches in the syrup with a thin burnt crust on top and greens which were so salty people couldn't eat it. No one ate the potato salad, greens, or cobbler. What a huge waste of money. My husband went to pick up the food and forgot the receipt. They refused to give him the food, and he had to drive home, get the receipt, and then go back. How ridiculous. For the suburbs this is one of the best places to get authentic soul food. The fried chicken is delicious the green beans cheese macaroni. All the sides are fantastic. The desserts are delicious as well. Peach cobbler was $85 per tray and it was basically canned peaches with all the water an an overly nutmegged, thin burnt layer of crisp over it. Potato salad had minimal actual potato chunks in it. It was basically mashed potatoes with pickle relish. Greens were too salty and not tender. Mac and cheese was good. read more

Reviewing a second time ... my review this final time .. and final being I'm just not going to try again. It's been a few years since I last visited, sadly I'm sorry I tried again. I was hoping there was an improvement. The good - the plantains were delicious, and freshly made. The corn muffin - was okay. I ordered chicken wings, corn ( nothing special) and the plantains . The wings were less than lukewarm.. dry , dry, dry, no flavor and still had attached feathers. . I wasn't gonna say anything but I did go back to ask for fresh chicken. I was met basically with " huh" .. well okay I'll give you different ones. Threw away the 3 uneaten ones, and partially eaten 4th one. They should have informed me that they did not have chicken breasts or thighs before taking my money. I visited yesterday for their Wednesday beef rib tips, mac n cheese, and braised cabbage. Meal also comes with a corn muffin. I visited again today for their Thursday Oxtails, navy beans, and green beans. I also got their fried chicken, comes with a huge breast and 2 wings, mashed potatoes, and candied yams were my side choices. Everyone there is super friendly, and they know how to interact with their customers. Also, had a slight issue with the peach cobbler the day before and today they replaced it with a piece of caramel cake at no charge. The fried chicken was some of the best I have ever had. Every bit of food was outstanding and piping hot. My dad who is 90 loved the oxtails and rib tips and all the sides were delicious. Fried catfish and smothered chicken will be my next choice. This place needs a system. I waited 45 minutes, no exaggeration, for my to-go order on Friday. I'm sure it would have taken longer if I hadn't flagged a server for help. It would be so easy to put in a system instead of having the servers walking around filling orders as they read them. They walk over there to get a piece of chicken. Then, they walk back to get mac and cheese. Then they walk to the rear to get peach cobbler. So much time wasted walking around. Just do an assembly line to fill orders. Food was ok. I stopped by early today for fish. I ordered the catfish dinner and 2 sides. I saw rib tips on the menu so I ordered a rip tip dinner. The fish and all sides were great. The rib tips were AWFUL. They didn't taste BBQ'ed at all. It was boiled pork in BBQ sauce. The tip were tough, fatty and hard in spots. I'll go back but never for rib tips. read more

The food is good. Don't listen to the bad reviews. I've been going to Priscilla's for years and it's never been "nasty" especially compared to other soul food restaurants. However, SUNDAYS are extremely busy because who doesn't know about "soul food Sundays" if you don't want to wait, don't go on Sundays ‍‍ On the other hand, the customer service is terrible. They can be very rude including the manager/owner. Their system glitched on me after I changed my entree so it doubled my sides of candied yams after changing from oxtails to fried chicken (obviously we couldn't make up our minds on an entree.) We usually order one main entree and extra sides because the meat portions are always big enough for me and my bf to share. However, since their system glitched after changing the entree, it gave me three sides of candied yams instead of two yams and two macs. When I called to try and rectify the situation, the manager responded "that's what you chose" and I just said never mind because I understand to an extent but just felt like that's no way to talk to a customer especially when I was kind about it. She clearly knew it was a mistake because I called thinking THEY gave me the wrong side. So I truly try to have everything in order. I always try to order online from this location. I'll never order online from their Hillside location. It's literally a mess every single time. But, yea I try to limit myself any aggravation as possible by being proactive because you'll really be angry and never wanting to support again by the way the customer service is. The quality of the food has gone down at Priscilla's, while the prices has gone up. I used to love their Mac' n Cheese. It used to have a wonderful golden baked crust and gooey cheese. Now it is definitely different. No more golden crust. Different noodles and cheese. It's more along the lines of Kraft mac n cheese. I think they are trying to save money with cheaper ingredients, etc. The fried chicken was on the dry side, but edible. Luckily, the mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes were still very good. I am a huge fan of Priscilla's Ultimate Soulfood Cafeteria in Streamwood and was thrilled when I discovered that they were opening an express location close to my home. Please see my review of the Streamwood location for my background and love of Soulfood. The basic premise: you get a main meal (options rotate daily), 2 sides, a cornbread muffin, and a drink. The prices are a bit high for me -- hence the 4 stars instead of 5 - but as I said, if you've got a craving....it takes care of it. This location is like the cafeteria, except smaller and more compact. I mainly go for the fried chicken and the red velvet cake when I'm not training. Around here, your options for fried chicken mainly consist of KFC and Popeye's, neither of which do anything for me. Tonight I tried the baked chicken, and it was just as good as the fried. The sides we all shared tonight were mashed potatoes, corn, candied yams and mac and cheese. My kids ate all the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. They love it. Topped it off with Sweet Tea. Yum. It's in an odd location, where the Boston Market used to be. I wish they had breakfast and lower prices. But it's worth the trip, and if you are craving fried chicken -- GO. Go right now. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened because 1) I'm not a soul food expert but have loved it when I've had it and 2) there is always something comforting about fried chicken. So finally a situation presented itself to give it a try. Stopped in on Sunday and got an 8 piece chicken dinner with one large side. Ordered the mac and cheese which was awesome. The chicken itself was tasty albeit a touch spicy for my group (kids) and I was disappointed they didn't have any chicken breasts on a Sunday at 6 but also understood it was the end of the run. They made up for it by adding extra legs into the batch. Also ordered the candied yams which got a mixed review due to the inclusion of a baking spice (nutmeg perhaps?). The cornbread muffins were good but as someone mentioned, Boston Market's were better. Also got red velvet cake which was good but not mindblowing. The service was great - she helped me through the menus and talked about what she liked there. Everyone was so darn friendly. All in all, I will add this to my rotation of local carryout places and looking forward to trying some new dishes as well like the fried catfish. read more

Caution: This is good enough to eat every day but it is definitely not food you should consume daily. Here's some additional pre-review advice: Pack a pillow or a huge caffeinated drink for the trip back home. You will be in a food coma if you manage to finish this hearty meal. Every now and then I find myself desirous of something you rarely find in most restaurants. Inexpensive, flavorful veggies and something fried just right. At one time, I thought I would have to drive to the south part of the city to eat this good. Lucky for me, I can bask in this type of goodness close to the nest. Priscilla's is near and dear because it is seriously akin to a Sunday dinner at my grandparents place. Fried food, items smothered in gravy and lots of starches. That said, I grew up feasting like this regularly and indulging on occasion, reminds me of them and they wonderful conversations during those meals. Admittedly, it has taken me a few visits to remember the need to share this great find. I have tried the mac n cheese, fried chicken, fried fish, smothered chicken, collard greens with turkey, collard greens with pork, green beans, corn, candied yams, cornbread and cabbage (over several visits of course). I seriously enjoyed every single item but if obliged to choose, I would say the fish, collard greens and candied yams are my favorites. Had a taste for oxtails last night and remembered that Priscellas has them on Thursdays. We usually go to the Priscillas in Hillside (near the cemeteries) but also remembered that they had one in Hanover Park. The food was fantastic. But, what then happened was the best ever. We live in the far northern suburbs and when we were just about home, I realized I left my purse there. The restaurant closes at 6:30 and it was almost 7:30 when I called, hoping that someone would answer. A lovely woman answered and said yes, they had my purse. We told her it would be at least a half hour before we could get back. And she said, fine, I'll be here. I don't know if she stayed because of us, or perhaps she was cooking for the next day, but I am SO THANKFUL to her. We definitely will be back. Thank you again!!! read more
