Porkchops with gravy Candied yams Turkey greens Homemade cornbread Shortribs with gravy Mac and cheese
    Evelyn L.

I'm back, On a lunch date. been trying to catch me some oxtail at Priscilla. So I'll settle for the smothered chops, turkey greens, mashed potatoes and candied yams I love me some down home cooking. The services are amazingly pleasant and the place e is big and spacious.

Catfish, dressing with gravy, greens with turkey and cornbread muffin.

The service was friendly and helpful, menu choices plentiful and the food was delicious. The greens with turkey were great (they have them with pork for those who prefer), their catfish was fresh and cooked perfectly, the dressing with gravy was flavorful, others commented on how good the baked and fried chicken and the desserts are (once again lots of great choices). The cornbread muffin was the right kinda sweet and texture and the pineapple coconut cake was light and delicious. Overall a casual place to get some good soul food in the suburbs.

The service is always good and the place is always pretty clean and running like a well oiled machine. However, after years of coming here I have to say that the quality has declined steadily. Though everything is fried to perfection especially the chicken, the catfish is so small thin and flimsy. The Mac is subpar it's not even real grated cheese. No roux. No sauce. I'm not sure what's going on with it. Beef short ribs were pretty good though. Pricilla punch wayyyy too sweet. Peach cobbler was grainy and weird. The texture was so off and it could use some mini dumplings or something in it. Also, only had a pack of Ken's ranch that is for salads which is just not ok. I'll end it here but please do better with the catfish and the sides.

The food was ok except the dessert was aweful. I got the peach cobbler and the banana pudding a wastei got both large order wasre of my money

Now that we're well out of the pandemic and in-house dining has resumed, I stopped in one Saturday late afternoon. The restaurant was not packed like after church on Sundays, so I got to enjoy the meal without people on top of me. I ordered fried catfish, candied yams, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and corn muffin. The catfish was meatier this time. The sides were also several notches tastier. And the cornbread was more savory than sweet. Takeout and delivery during the pandemic must have come with some shortcuts because my recent dining experience was 10 times better, and the first wasn't bad.

The draft! Gangway, I have a review coming ; )

I discovered Priscilla's Ultimate Soulfood Cafeteria after Gino W, a yelper out of Country Club Hills visited, reviewed and posted a picture of the collard greens which I came across on my 'local picks near you' feed via yelp platform. Once I noted its location being near an area I frequent, Priscilla's became a must visit for me at some point while in the area. I ended up ordering their veggie plate which came with four sides, and a muffin. As my sides, I chose mashed potatoes with gravy, baked macaroni & cheese, fried green tomatoes, and pinto beans w/rice! Prior to ordering I was hesitant about ordering their baked macaroni & cheese because you just never know what you will get. However, I stuck with it, thinking why not just give it a try because I can just move on to something else if I did not like it. As much as I wanted to order collard greens, seeing that they were paired with meat was a turnoff for me being that I am vegetarian; and I just did not have the patience to pick little pieces of meat out. So, I went with the pinto beans w/rice instead, figuring that it would pair well with the cornbread muffin. Seeing fried green tomatoes was a surprise because it was the last thing I figured was on their menu. I thought to myself, fried green tomatoes! Hmmm, I have not had fried green tomatoes in a very long time, so why not. I always love ordering online via yelp because it is convenient! Most of the time my orders are completed upon my arrival or near complete. No more than 20 minutes from the time I placed my order online via yelp, I picked it up and was well on my way after just a short wait which also gave me the chance to get a feel of Priscilla's. An ideal spot for southern food, the restaurant appeared clean, and its atmosphere gave off the vibe of an old-fashioned buffet restaurant. There are a number of tables and seating available inside of the dining area which makes it the perfect spot to visit with a group; maybe even after attending church on Sunday afternoon. Now as for my food, the pinto beans w/rice were the first of the sides I ate and I could not hold back dancing because they tasted so well with the cornbread muffin. After my first bite of the mashed potatoes with gravy I said to myself, "nice!" because it was so delicious! It has been some time now since I have had good mashed potatoes and I must point out that I will more than likely order it again as a side from Priscilla's. It was so hard to not smirk upon finishing off the mashed potatoes because I enjoyed them so much. Out of all of the sides, I had the highest expectations of the baked macaroni & cheese which I must say lived up to that high expectation. It was my second favorite of the sides next to the mashed potatoes! And lastly, the fried green tomatoes! The fried green tomatoes were just that! I cannot say that I was dissatisfied with the way they tasted nor appeared. What I will say is that I did myself a disservice by not pairing it with the baked macaroni & cheese which would have really complemented its taste. While adding the final touches to this review of Priscilla's Ultimate Soulfood Cafeteria, the thought of returning put a smirk on my face. I do look forward to that as the time goes on. And as Gino W shared the goodness of this restaurant located in Hillside, I share my endorsement of it as well with you all. ~ Live in gratitude ~ Thomas G

It came with a roumalade that I think they need to bottle up and sell. It's the kinda sauce you'd want to put on everything. I liked the texture and flavor of the wrap and omg the flavors tasted like they were wrapped in love. Chloe, the owner, told us that the jambalaya ones are even better. A can of HOT SHOOT in the "non-dinning" room area, Your hair in a Bonnet like you just got out of bed, Food items on the floor (in this case vanilla wafers and onions and a few other items), items thrown on the tables (for the "non-dinning" room area) I had a $25 restaurant.com certificate. (Which is a story in itself) I sometimes I hate using them cause I always get that feeling most of the restaurants don't want to honor it. (why the heck do you sign up for it?) After giving Tiyana the code and ringing up the food it took an additional 6-8 min before actually processing the card. Not sure if it was because she didn't believe the price after or needed a confirmation about the actual certificate . it was never explained just long silent waiting.... *cricket* I added my food up through the groupon app before even ordering and according to that price I was charged about 30 cent more. I wasn't going to argue over that and left it alone. FRIED CHICKEN DARK - 8.99 - It was good. SMOTHERED CHICKEN DARK - 10.99 tasted like a different batch of chicken from the fried chicken as it tasted more burnt/dried out it was slightly cold (only took about 15min to get home + the 10 before actually getting my food at the end ) JERK CHICKEN - $16 for 4 wings??? I get that it's a "dinner" as you can order 10 wings for the exact same $16. but basic math your charge $6 for two small sides So the other $10 is for 4 WINGS! Another odd comparison is that regular four wing dinner cost $12. Jerk seasoning cost $4? Flavor was excellent and seasoned well. Expected large Jerk Wings for the price, something similar to Montego Bay in Bellwood. SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS - $10 thin cut, but for the price I guess I expected that ) the meet was a little dry and overdone but again I take it due to the thin cut of meat as you don't have a lot of room for error and need to make sure the meat is done. SIDES Jerk Mac Cheese - Fire! The only unique thing you'll get hear in regards to not being on a nearby restaurant menu. It's a handful of items with Jerk in it. Jerk Pizza Puff, Tacos, Nachos, Burritos, Jerk Chicken omelette Sweet potatoes. - probably the closet to my moms recipe that I have ever tried. (Diabetics be warned!) Greens - the only thing I didn't personally try myself, but was told after throwing some vinegar and hot sauce on them, they thought they were good. Regular Mac and cheese. - it's alright compared to the jerk version. Dressing - literally don't even remember. I ate it but flavor wise I've had better. Tiyana was nice and I notice more smiles at the end . I know black folks get that "mean" typecast do to RBF (Resting itch Face) as I was questioning it myself. However at the end I know she'a putting the food out in hopes you really like it and would come back. She also gave me a coupon book for the restaurant. (Some of it is to be questioned. Such as refer 20 people and get 7 free meals.) and two key chains which got destroyed as the heat from the bag made the paper material in between the key chain wet. It's like I see the effort and hard work and not trying to knock what Tiyana is doing Notice the one year anniversary menu (All you can eat buy one for $18.99 and get 2nd meal for $0.01) I like everything is cooked from scratch. I understand the whole "call your order in advance" reply I'll probably get, but I waited 90 min! The place wasn't dirty but too cluttered with items on the table etc. Not sure if going through remolding, but the photos I seen on Maywood Village Press showing the dinning room area is nothing like what I seen when I got there. I felt Tiyana attire was more like see your sister on thanksgiving morning putting the turkey in the oven before everyone gets up and not I'm the business owner/chef. This is one of those reviews where despite the low rating I hope people give it a chance and able to see visible improvements. As a person that almost never order delivery. This is the one time I'll say grub hub and door dash would be in your best interest.

They served me raw chicken with jerk sauce on it. First you get the attitude over the phone then…read morethey deliver you raw chicken shrugs. Go here if want terrible food with the terrible service on the side.

The ambience is unmatched--cozy, welcoming, and full of charm. My husband and I used to live nearby, and some of our favorite memories are walking over on weekends with our pup, grabbing coffee, and sitting out front just enjoying the moment. I recently visited the Elmhurst Craft location for an event and had one of those experiences that just sticks with you. I was chatting with a barista about how much I love (and deeply miss!) the Equinox. She mentioned she was newer and hadn't tried it, but saw it in the recipe book and agreed it sounded amazing--which, for the record, it absolutely is (or was ). A little while later, she came running up to me asking if I was the one talking about the Equinox. When I said yes, she surprised me with an Equinox sticker she had dug up. Such a small, simple gesture--but it genuinely meant so much and made my entire night. To the Brewpoint leadership team: that moment alone earned my loyalty for life. Customer service like that is rare, and it deserves to be recognized. I didn't catch her name, but I was there Thursday, March 19 between 6-8 PM at the Craft location--she was running the sample table and sharing the carrot cake latte (which, by the way, was incredible). Please pass along a huge thank you and some well-deserved recognition--she truly made an impact. And one last thing... BRING BACK THE EQUINOX!! Pretty please

This was my first time to the Brewpoint Founders Cafe and was completely impressed! From their…read moreother location, I like that this one truly aligned as a coffee shop. They still had the same coffee menu, seasonal drinks, and baked good offering; but, felt a lot more like a neighborhood destination. I ended up ordering coffee for my work team and all were impressed by the flavors! I got a Black Americano, Hot Borealis Latte, and the Whipped Carrot Cake Latte for myself. The Carrot Cake Latte may be a new all time favorite of mine! It wasn't too sweet but just leaned into the flavor profile enough. My coworker who had the Hot Borealis said it may have been her favorite latte she's tried. I also got the Herbed Goat Cheese Croissant which is familiar yet unique with the pop of savoriness. Overall, this was a great experience as a stop in when passing through the area. Brewpoint continues to have great flavors that leaves a lasting impression. Staff is friendly and pricing is fair.
