I really wanted to like this place - the staff were friendly enough - but the actual manicure was a huge disappointment. I came in for a simple gel manicure, and the results look terrible. The gel polish is flooded all over my cuticles, it's already cracked in several spots, missing in others, and the paint itself is uneven and lumpy. It genuinely looks worse than when I walked in. I went in for a wax and they somehow got wax in my hair. Instead of acknowledging it or apologizing, they tried to pretend it didn't happen and just kept going like nothing was wrong. I had to point it out myself and tell them to remove it before they even bothered to try. The whole situation was unprofessional and honestly pretty embarrassing. Kathy did my pedicure and I'll definitely be back to see her. She and the other ladies were so nice...I think it's the first time I've ever been to a larger nail salon (vs just an individual) where I wasn't clearly being spoken poorly about. Everyone doing pedicures there seemed genuinely sweet, especially Kathy. I don't normally just give out 5 stars and looks like there's some complaining offering fewer stars. How can anyone not appreciate the hard work these assistants do? Seems like hard dedicated work. The beautiful Miss Katy attended to my tired worn feet for an hour entertaining me at the perfect moments with wonderful conversations. She told me she commutes from San Jose! That's a long drive to work on others' hands and feet and get, at times, little praise. I made an appointment with my friend, she was getting an acrylic fill and i just wanted a french tip manicure. The salon was pretty busy, but we were sat right away. I was seated with a woman who had no idea what she was doing. She removed my previous gel with an extremely harsh drill tip, damaging and thinning my nails. She also drilled until it hit my nail and i had to pull away my hand multiple times; she just seemed unaware that she was hurting me. She was also very confused by my nail design, even though it was very simple, and it was clear to me that she had no experience doing any kind of design work on nails. There were at least 3 other technicians who were on their phones that could have done my nails, but my technician didn't want to ask for help or assistance. When she started doing my french tip, it was very sloppy and messy, and even though she attempted to clean it up, i knew that i wasn't going to recieve the quality i wanted, despite it being a basic design. At this point i had been in the salon for over an hour, and my friend had completely finished with her acrylic fill/color as i was just beginning to get mine painted. I eventually had to ask my technician to remove the gel completely, and left the salon with extremely thin, damaged nails. Even though i was offered a different technician after i started crying, i did not feel comfortable placing my trust in another technician in that salon. I do want to preface that i do not think the work done on my nails is reflective of all of the nail techs in this shop, as my friend's nails came out looking amazing and in half the time it took my nail tech to even remove my previous gel. When we went back to ask for the name of my nail tech, they refused to give it and offered me a discount for a new set. Though this was very kind, i do believe that they knew my technician was extremely inexperienced, and probably unlicensed, but wanted to get me seated during the small rush. I would have rather waited 30 minutes then waste 2 hours of my life to end up with unpainted nails and a ruined day. read more

You pay for what you get! I was looking for a cheap pedicure in the Santa Cruz area and saw this salon doing $28 pedicures ! Score ! The place was a basic nails salon. It is clean! They wipe everything down! Most use gloves and if the lady isn't wearing any just ask to put some on. Very sweet simple ladies . They don't talk much which I prefer when at a salon. Always make sure you double check your nails ! I needed them to put on a 3rd coat to make it look more even. So always watch what they are doing they don't ask you many questions . read more

We were in town for a spell, and decided to try this place on the recommendation of others. I would NOT recommend going here. We went in for a gel pedicure. The technician working with me was rough, did not remove all of the previous gel polish before proceeding to apply the new. I had to stop her and request that she takeoff the remaining gel polish that was on there previously, she did take it off, but in applying the new gel, she painted on my cuticles, which she did not trim in prepping and then tried trimming the cuticles after the polish set, cutting my skin in the process. As another note, my wife's pedicure took over 2 hours in the chair!!! We're 100% certain that technician was not licensed, and groped her boob at the end of the painfully long appointment!! Additionally, we saw a technician pull out gloves from the box with dirty gloves on and passed them to another, who also had dirty gloves and packed the gloves into her empty box. No one needs services badly enough to go here!! read more

This is probably the most well shaped set of nails I have ever gotten. Not sure the name of the kind woman who did them but she took lots of time to make sure they were as symmetrical as possible and kept checking in with me to make sure I was okay with how it looked. My 2 friends and I called a few days in advance to have our nails done together and they immediately scheduled us for the time we requested. But despite this, while one friend got her nails done, my other friend and I waited (around 30 min) while we watched them take in several walk-ins before us which was a little disappointing. I asked for some personalization to surprise my s/o, but I didn't realize it would cost me an extra $8, it would be okay if it turned out like the photo, but the heart was messed up. She did attempt to fix it right I was about to leave, but I think it wasn't fully dried so it was ruined the same day again. All in all, the pricing is decent in comparison to most Bay Area nail salons I go to, it's unfortunate about the waiting time considering we made appointments, but it is good and clean! And I will be going there again. For reference, my nails were $40 plus $8 for the design and if you pay with card there is a $1 fee, so it helps to bring cash. So so so so disappointed. My normal place was booked up and I needed them done bad. So I popped in. Big mistake. First the color I asked for wasn't what i got. She blamed it on discoloration over the years yea OKAY. So I asked to have the color changed and she just proceeded to take another color and paint over what i had! Minus a star because they sometimes close earlier than their listed hours and as a busy mom it's really annoying to zoom over there and find they have left. Customer and mani service could be better if staff was more attentive to detail and took their time clients. My girlfriend and I came in for dual pedicures today because we happened to be on this side of town. My pedi started 1st and my girlfriend's 10 minutes later and hers was finished before mine. Unfortunately, the older lady who was doing my girlfriend's pedicure seemed to just not have her heart in it and it was painfully obvious; hurt my friend during nail clipping, didn't put anything btwn her toes for polishing, didn't clean up the polish job and didn't offer foam slippers, just kinda walked away after leaving her in the chair fending for herself. There is only one good worker who knows how to wax in there and that's Cindy. The other workers are not so good. Twice before I've been burnt by the wax leaving skin burned, red, and scabby. The lady who did my eyebrows yesterday used her nail to remove the excess wax which was painful and unsanitary. Great 2 days before prom and I have a scabby eye brow. I've been going here for years with my mom and sister. We've mostly gotten pedicures, but have gotten several manicures as well. No matter who you get for your pedi, it will be perfect. They've got a great color selection for all seasons. I've never left unhappy. (Except that one time I was getting into the car and had a mess-up. I went back in and the fixed it for me. THEN, I left happy and stayed that way.) The massage (the most important part) is always excellent. If I have the extra time, I'll get a deluxe pedi but I usually just get the standard. I still get a great massage and also a hot stone massage. Love it! I will be back after my current pedi starts to grow out, wait a few weeks, then march right in with sad, calloused toes. read more

I would actually give this 2.5 star if that were available. I have had better, but it was fine. It is your typical grungy looking nail salon, but I was surprised that the pedicure was $21. In my opinion, that was pricey for a salon of this caliber. However, I find, in general, that services are more expensive in Santa Cruz. Probably because there is less competition than in San Jose or SF. I walked in and waited five minutes before being placed in a chair. Five minutes after that I got my technician. It was late in the day and they were quite busy. I had a male for a pedicure, his name is Ken. He was extremely thorough. Precise and careful. He provided a great massage and even adjusted my massage chair because I was having difficulties setting it. He was nice and considerate but did not engage in much conversation, which I prefer. I am germ phobic, so initially it is hard for me to relax in salons that are not completely updated and really modern and clean. I loosened up when he opened a new package of tools. I was also comforted when I saw them cleaning the bowls. I went to a nail salon once and they haphazardly swished some water around before the next person and I never went back. Yuck. So far the pedicure is nice and I selected an OPI color. I overheard another women say that she brought in her own nail color, which I will do in the future, if I decide to go back. Their selection is limited and nail color does expire over time. With regards to them speaking another language, I perceived that they communicated well as a team and they did so in their native language. Some appeared to speak very limited english. I did not have a problem with this or think they were speaking negatively about any customers. I think they were simply speaking in the language that was most comfortable for them. read more

I have been going to Nails Plus for 10+ years. Over the years I have learned a thing or two. 1. Call ahead, even if it's just to say you're coming in ten minutes. 2. Request your favorite nail tech. Mine is Cindy. Trial & error have proved she is the best, bar-none. She is not pushy, will not talk over the room to her friends in a language you don't understand, and enjoys small talk with you. 3. They're great for waxing too. Cindy has been doing my eyebrows for quite some time now. I gave them only 3 stars because I have had some awful experiences with other techs. (Who seem to have not lasted long after my horrible time with them, so maybe others complained as well). They also get packed on evenings & weekends, sometimes with a 45+ minute wait. read more

Another great experience. I don't understand the negative reviews on here. My last shellac manicure lasted for OVER two weeks and would've lasted longer if I hadn't gotten my nails redone today for Halloween. I opted for another shellac manicure because the last one I got here was so well done and lasted forever, and it looks great, again. Only teeny tiny complaint is that the woman filed my nails a little shorter than I prefer, but when your polish stays on for two weeks, your nails have plenty of time to grow out so I don't mind. I definitely recommend getting a shellac manicure with French tips (I usually get a color, pink last time & black this time), they do a great job with this and also since it lasts over two weeks, the grow-out is much less noticeable with just the tips colored. In fact, I was still getting compliments on my manicure up until the day I took it off, it never looked shabby or gross. I will be back after another 2 weeks!! read more

The last time I was there, the lady took her time, clipped my nails short (I won't have to go back for awhile!), I opted for the callus remover and she just did an excellent job.
