The gentlemen on the phone (yes, I called multiple times to update my list of furniture and discuss the move) were always kind, helpful, and patient. My old house was on a private lane with a challenging driveway entry situation. They were able to do an initial drive-by to figure out how to best address the potential problem. Fortunately, they constructed a solution that would work best and be the most cost-effective for me. The movers were very prompt, arriving on time, a little after 7 in the morning. They did an initial walk-through with me so that they knew exactly what I was taking and what was supposed to be left in the garage for Habitat for Humanity. I was then allowed to head to my new house to start unpacking boxes while they moved the furniture onto their truck. When they were close to finishing, they called me to return to my old house so that we could do a final walk-through to make sure they didn't leave anything behind. Then we all headed to my new house, where I directed them on where to put everything. The team of 4 worked seamlessly and had nothing but respect for one another, for me, my furniture, and my home. Once everything was moved into my house, they did one final walk-through to move anything I wanted moved. Additionally, I had 2 very challenging items to move: an exercise machine and a massage chair. They figured out how to disassemble and reassemble both of them, which was quite a feat. On top of everything else, they did not once scrape up a wall or my furniture; they were all super careful. I'm sorry I didn't get everybody's name to compliment; this was such a busy time for me. When I first talked to them for a quote, they made it very easy as they walk you through the whole moving process. The person giving the quote makes you go room by room and list all the furniture that you are planning on moving to your new place. They then explain what's included in the price and email you a copy for your records. A $50 deposit is required to lock in your date and is credited towards your total at the end. Adil and his team works super fast and waste no time at all. They are very knowledgeable and work great together as a team. They finished our move 2 hours earlier than what was quoted! Amazing! All our furniture and belongings were packed wonderfully in their truck and all made it to our new place in their respective rooms without any issues. Extremely Disappointed -- Would Not Recommend…read more My experience with Great Chicago Movers was anything but great. I booked my move with Paul about a month in advance and had my Friday, August 28th move at 7:30 a.m. confirmed in writing via text. I also paid a $150 deposit and was quoted $600 for 2.5 hours with two movers. I thought everything was settled and confirmed. Then, the day before my move, Paul contacted me asking for my pickup and delivery addresses and offered to move me that same day instead. When I reminded him that my Friday 7:30 a.m. appointment had already been confirmed, I was told there was a problem because someone else had taken my spot and my appointment apparently "wasn't in the system." I actually had the text confirmation from Paul proving otherwise. Despite that, I was forced to change my move time to noon. That alone was extremely frustrating and unprofessional, but unfortunately, that wasn't the worst of it. The movers arrived around 11:45 a.m., and it took approximately 2.5 hours just to load my belongings onto the truck. Once everything was loaded and it was time to complete the move, I received a text from Paul quoting me $1,300 to unload my belongings, NOT including the $150 deposit I had already paid. I was told they needed to be paid before they would continue. After I questioned the amount, the price was changed to $1,000 for the remaining loading/unloading time. At that point, my belongings were already on their truck, leaving me feeling like I had no real choice but to pay. What was supposed to be a $600 move turned into a significantly more expensive experience, with additional charges for nearly everything, including bed setup. The pricing and the way everything was handled left me extremely disappointed. I will say that the two movers themselves worked hard and did a good job. My issue is with the management of the move and, specifically, how Paul handled the situation and communicated with me. I would not recommend Great Chicago Movers. If you decide to use them, make sure you get every detail and every potential charge in writing beforehand. Based on my experience, I would choose another moving company.
