Pro Re Nata doesn't exactly have the same vibe as the other recent breweries in town but that might be a nice thing. A little closer into Cville than those breweries out in Nelson and clearly targeted for live music with a stage and open space as you walk in. The deisgn of the place has been done really well, a little rustic, a little industrial. Here's my biggest compliment of anywhere I go: the staff knew what they were doing and how to make people feel welcome. I ordered two beers and the bartender immediatly offered a taste of that beer in addition to another, which I did like much better. I'll say I didn't love any of the beers we tasted but I did really appreciate the staff trying to make our experience great. read more

After having this brewery bookmarked for many months, I decided to finally venture out to Crozet on a recent beautiful fall day. True to its name, Pro Re Nata is exactly what the Dr. ordered! The brewery and tasting room are located in a very clean, modern, yet also comfy building with north western views up into the mountains of Shenandoah National park (maybe they get a nice sunset because of this too?? They serve pints, flights, and growler fills for their seasonal and year-round brews. As a fan of darker beers, I found their mostly light year round brews to be average but they did have some seasonal beers that I thought were very good. Their tasting room with the bar has an abundance of high top tables, while their other room has many traditional height tables that seem great for a family. My disappointments/suggestions include that while they have a great garage door out to a patio with mountain views, adding some music via speakers out there might be nice in addition to corn hole or something along those lines to draw people out. Bar service also wasn't terribly fast, frustrating when they don't have table service. My main disappointment stems from their "kitchen" which is a Little Johns. Rather than a traditional kitchen, their kitchen is a deluxe kitchen in a big wheel travel trailer so you must go outside, but admittedly a very clever way for pro re nata to avoid restaurant permitting/taxing/oversight for their main business! But anyways, I'm not a huge fan of Little Johns to begin with, but sandwiches aren't the first food I think of to have with a beer so that was disappointing and will greatly reduce how often I return. As a brewery I'll give Pro Re Nata a low 4 stars. For their food, I'll just avoid that rating since I hope people continue to support a local business! read more

It's not a bad place and the beer is decent. The problem is the kitchen staff HANDLES FOOD WITH THEIR BARE HANDS! I witnessed the lady preparing my order reach into a bin of potato chips, grab handfuls of them and place them in the food baskets . I asked the lady to put gloves on and did not pay for the food. She shook her head and didn't respond to me . Later on I walked by to see. No gloves . During a pandemic. I'll be back to Pro because I like the scene. I went to Pro Re Nata over the weekend with my kids and in-laws and enjoyed every minute. I talked to one of the managers who was very friendly and she recommended the food truck (which is new).... ohhh it did not disappoint. The kids loved the wings and we got an assortment of food to share; every bite was delicious and I wish I got pictures! Everyone was very friendly, the food/ beer was good, and we alternated between the fire and watching some games. Also, they seem to be renovating (or adding) and I can not wait to see what they do with the space because it is massive. Fantastic venue! This was our first visit to this brewery and the Za Spot food truck; won't be our last. The Detroit style pizza is absolutely amazing. Where do I start. Great location, friendly staff and great beverages. Food is so so but for a brewery it is what it is. The site is beautiful and great for kids, although the playground could use an update and an age limit. I've seen more times than I can count someone's kid injured by an older kid that shouldn't be allowed due to their size/age. I do recommend this place and will be coming back. read more

Boy oh boy has this place gone down hill. We went again last night on 11/4/17 and I started with a Crozet Cream Ale, and it was off. Not spoiled but it had a weird taste like pond water. Add to that the worst bbq we have ever gotten from Braised, it is normally delicious but last night is was dry, burnt and truly inedible. Then add the horrible band and their three drunken fans. The band was painfully loud and one guys instrument was literally a wooden box and they had three drunken family members hootin and a hollerin like a West Virginia wedding and it was all topped off by one of the drunken band groupies vomiting on my car hood. I love this place. You can find Crozet locals dancing to local music on Thursdays-Sundays, and the Doctor's Orders lager is my go-to. The bartenders are fantastic; they are welcoming and they even remember you if you come back more than once (or more than a few times). Wonderful! Good beer, good cider, friendly folks and friendly dogs. This seems to be a favorite with locals which is always a good sign and especially so in an area with many breweries to choose from. We didn't have any food but what we saw looked good. People of all ages mingling. I can imagine it would be much fun in the summer to hang outside and explore their play areas. I inadvertently left my IPhone in the bathroom and they were very good to locate it and keep it safely behind the bar until I could return. Just honestly good people. I think we've found our favorite Virginia brewery!! Which is saying a lot since we live smack dab in the Richmond brewery scene. I took my husband here as a surprise on his birthday and to escape Richmond for the day - get some fresh air, enjoy the mountains, and relax with some beers. The Yelp reviews is what lead me to choose this place and it did not disappoint!! Thanks, Yelpers! We stayed for several hours and towards the end it did get a bit crowded with the live music getting ready to start, which is understandable, but up until then, it was very pleasant. Never overly crowded or too loud, just very relaxing and fun. And very dog friendly, indoors and out! We did two flights at the bar + two apps from their food truck, Braised. The beer was delicious and had fun flavors and names to keep up with the medicinal vibe of the place (Pro re nata = PRN = take as needed. So clever!) as the owner is a doctor. The food was delicious too! Huge portions and obviously all made to order and very fresh. The place was decorated in an industrial, masculine, farmhouse type of way but still airy and spacious. Really well done. Lots of fun attention to details as well. They also had some pro-police decor which we are fans of! Plenty of versatile space was something we really enjoyed also. Two outdoor spaces, one with a patio and a fire pit overlooking the mountains, + a spacious indoor bar and second room with a variety of seating. Our rehearsal dinner was at Pro Re Nata, and it could not have been more PERFECT! We chose this brewery because we are in love with the venue and there is such a great variety of beer. PRN is easily accessible and there is lots of parking available. The outside space has a mountain view, corn hole boards, a fire pit, and picnic tables. Inside, there is a variety of seating (a large bar, high and low tables, chairs for lounging), as well as a little stage where our friends and family gave toasts. It was the perfect size for our group of 120. We absolutely love the laid back feel of PRN, including the décor, the indoor and outdoor games, and the friendly staff. Jared, Brian and John made this one of our favorite nights ever! Our friends and family are still talking about how much they loved PRN, and we will be returning often for some delicious beers! read more

All of the brews are tasty with new additions coming on a regular basis. Also the food I've tried is solid pub fare and works well. You can't order food and have it delivered to the bar, which is strange. Has to be something with ABC law and not being considered a restaurant. The fire pit is great too. The tap room is nice and open, modern and simple design. The beers are solid, including their delicious sour. It is popular and busy on big game days, there is at least one big tv. The outdoor area is large with a fire pit and outdoor games. There is an onsite food truck with lots of food options. This place would be good for big groups, and is kid and dog friendly. One major con for me is noise level. It is insanely loud when there is a band and when there is a large crowd. In my opinion, intolerable at times. But I'm getting old and cranky so if this doesn't bother you, you'll enjoy it. On more than one occasion, we've left because of the noise level. The most recent band we heard was good, a female lead belting out some bluesy tunes. But my old cranky status makes me feel that this place is just too big, too much, too loud. read more

So we came across this gem in our travels. A little confusing for first time there. You order lunch from a food trailer, not at the trailer you go inside the brewery and order and pay for that. Then go find a table, inside or out and the food comes to you. Now after you've done that then you go up to the bar and order some brews. There were two people behind the bar when we got there with only one taking orders so the line was forming. When we got our turn the young lady was very polite and informative and she fixed us right up. When our meals arrived they were on a board so a sandwich and coleslaw on a flat board made for a soggy sandwich. That is no way to serve those two items together and that is why they get 4 stars. read more
