I have had to deal with ProStar for both towing and service and have nothing but good things to say. Their tow service was timely and efficient. They were able to fix a problem on my 94 Cherokee that 3 different dealers couldn't diagnose and they also fixed an awful noise the car was making by finding that the fan shroud was loose. Again, a local Jeep dealer couldn't seem to figure that one out. Will be using them again and have already recommended them to friends with equally good results. read more

So my wife got pulled over and her car was impounded for no license. We called the police station and they said to call no-star towing lol. We did and i left a message explaining to call me back for some personal property. I got a call at 9:43 this morning and It was the manager who was immediately on the defense. I explained to him kindly that i had paid for the touch screen stereo and tvs in the car and wanted to know how to get them out, i even told him i had the receipt. He became very hostile and said in a very unprofessional voice your not getting your stuff back, as if he were yelling at me. I then went on to tell him what if the police department gives me a property release, he then said very rudely look buddy ive been in the towing business since 72 i dont care what you say, you aint getting it back. At this point in time i felt like i was in kindergarten being told i wasnt gonna have recess. He also kept cutting me off everytime i tried to speak, i literally had to ask the genteleman, hey can you be a professional and let me speak. Dealing with this tow company was worse than dealing with the police at least they were courteous. Next time someone calls maybe you shouldnt be such a dick, for that you earned yourself this review. My wife had an accident in Milpitas, while she was in shock and didn't know what to do. she handed AAA road side membership card to the officer and officer called AAA road service for towing the car. Prostar towed the car to their yard. I went to release my vehicle they charged me $215.00 for towing fee even though I was AAA member. As a member of AAA I was entitled free towing but Prostar chose to charge me $ 215.00. read more

I've never used their service. Instead I got a flat tire just outside their shop so came to them for help as they are an auto service Company and authorized AAA emergency road side service operator and was told by the individual in the office that they couldn't help me as I'm not in their coverage zone even though I'm literally parked in his parking lot. He said I needed to call AAA. I said my phone has only one bar and he did offer to let me use his phone, but as I couldn't look up the number that wouldn't be helpful. I eventually convinced him to give me Wi-Fi access so I could look up the number - so he wasn't completely in helpful. The second after he did that he turned around and went back to his computer. I was the only one at the shop, where I had arrived two minutes before their opening time and when I rang the bell - he looked at the clock on his computer and ignored me, only coming out to unlock the door when I knocked again promptly at 8am. I understand rules and coverage, but there is also helping someone when you are in a position to do so and he did literally the least he could do. If this is the same level of service you receive as a customer here you should look elsewhere. read more

This review is totally for Jay! The #12 Driver. I had an engine issue and my car literally stopped in the middle of the road so I have to call for a towing. This is the first time I am with a tow truck and I would like to thank Jay for saving my day! Jay came fast and he is very professional and proficient. When my car broke down, the person who towed my car was very helpful and even gave me a ride to a nearby house. Repairs were done within one day--simple fix and the price was reasonable (I'm assuming two hours of work went into it). I probably could have gotten it repaired at a cheaper place somewhere else, but for the convenience of having it towed, stored away securely and fixed in one day, Prostar wasn't bad at all. read more

Regarding the Auto Service: I had hoped there was a separate listing for the Auto Service, but it looks as though towing and service are being lumped together. I've been taking my Grand Caravan to Pro-Star since 2001. One of the things I liked about the previous service manager, Mark, who has retired, is that he would guide me away from unneeded repairs. Example: at times my control cluster would go out and my speedometer would go to zero... usually if I smacked the dash it would pop back up. When I asked about repairing it he said, "well, we could spend $2000 trying to find what's going on, or you can just hit the dash when it happens". He also warned me last year that I should probably be looking to replace our van soon and not put too much money into it (which I appreciated since he is in the repair business rather than car sales). Dean is their new service manager and I've had several occasions to go in since March and have had a good experience with him as well. The thing that most impresses me is that they do stand behind their service warranty. I had a new computer installed in March -- an $800 or $900 repair? In April the SES (service engine soon) light started coming on again and the van starting running very poorly.... I thought I needed a tune-up. Dean called and said that they diagnosed it and found it was actually a faulty computer -- and that since it was still under warranty, they would fix it for free -- even the labor portion! About a week or two later, unfortunately, it happened yet again! This time they went with a real Dodge part and had to send the van out to have it programmed... but they still didn't charge me. Not having the van while in the shop was never fun, but not getting charged for the repair made it much more bearable. Considering the part was faulty and not the labor, I appreciated that they still kept their promise and didn't charge me. They also have wifi in the office and a nice little waiting area including a little fridge with bottles of water. Another nice thing that Dean did was to go ahead and get some loose rubber seals fixed... his window guy was there and so he didn't even charge me which went a long way in creating good will. These seals will keep the rain from pooling into the passenger compartment which is nice. Usually I get my van back in a very timely fashion. The only time I didn't was when they had to send out the van elsewhere. I didn't know I wasn't getting it back on the expected day until I called at 4:45 and found out that the mechanics had already gone home -- it would have been nice to get a heads up call in advance so I could plan better. However it was an isolated instance. Now I usually check in to make sure they have received any parts they need and to get updates on when the car will be ready. One suggestion -- and this goes to all auto repair places, not just Pro-Star.... it would be great if with any repair of $200 or more that the car would be washed! Or for small repairs at least the windows washed in and out. I know that car is fixed, but somehow when you spend hundreds of dollars it is nice to SEE a change! Towing Service: We've used their towing service on many occasions given that the van has 160K miles on it. They've always been very helpful and polite. read more

Don't ever ever use Pro-Star Towing they will try every ways to suck money out of you. I am a AAA customer and had the shittiest experienced when need assistance to tow my car to my house which is only maybe 2 miles away or even less. The guy (Name: Cales #4) intention was to tow my car to their yard and giving me all this bullshit about regulations due to the damage to my car. I literally had to use profanity with him to speak my mind and he finally willing to tow my car to my house. When we get to my house he has the nerve to tell me that the street at my house doesn't have enough room for his tow truck to unload my car on my drive way. I gave him more profanity pep talk and just had enough with the guy and can't wait for him to get out of my site. Never Ever use this towing company. read more

We have used the service couple of times to move a Scissor Lift and they did a great job on both occasions. The dispatch did an excellent job of coordinating the pickup and delivery at both ends and Van the driver is courteous and patient. The pricing is consistent and reasonable and I would use them again. read more

I've used Pro-Star for my auto repairs for several years, and have never been disappointed. How many times have you you actually had you car repaired for lest than the original estimate? Probably not too many times. They are extremely professional, they keep you informed as to the progress of the repairs, and not once have I had to bring it back due to an improper repair. I drive a 1998 Ford Cobra, so I don't exactly treat my car with a gentile touch. They've come through for me every time I've brought my car in (which luckily hasn't been too many times. My wife is going to try them out also, so I'll update my review based on her review also. I trust Pro-Star quite a bit, which in my history is quite rare. I've never used the same repair location more than once. read more

Car stopped suddenly and called them for a tow to my shop that's on the other side of San Jose. Then the tow operator said they could fix my car. So they towed my car to their facility that looked like a penitentiary with high walls and barbed wire. So after a day they said they couldn't repair my car but where glad to charge me for a diagnostic printout. Then I had to have my car towed again to my repair shop that said my fuel pump hit its end-of -life. read more

Getting my car serviced has never been at the top of my priority list so it took me getting a dead battery before work to consider it would be an appropriate time to get that done to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. I was amazed at the impeccable service that was done and they also notified me of other maintenance issues that I wasn't aware of such as my brake light being out so they ordered me a new bulb and replaced it. They went above and beyond to execute the best service possible on my vehicle. I don't yelp very much only when I see people put their heart into what they do best to try and please a customer. This customer is extremely pleased and would highly recommend Pro Star Auto Service!!!! I am now a life time customer:) read more

Jason is very rude and just terrible. I arrived at the scene of my mother's accident and I haven't even done anything yet and he's already being rude. I tried to ask him one question while he was towing the car and he interrupted me by yelling at me "THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS YOU SHOULD NOT BE HERE THE WIRES CAN SNAP!" He yelled at me twice, ok I get it I'll back away but he didn't have to yell. Then later on the car is already on the tow truck, he got into the truck and started it. So then I thought he was ready to leave, so I pop up on the passenger side window. Before I even get to speak, he already ignored me and gave me the finger. Yes he did not look at me yet he can give me the index finger. From that point I felt so disrespected. At the end of course, he asked me if I needed a ride and I said no my car is parked around the corner and he said ok let's meet there. Right then and there he told me "I need you to pay $215 up front." I didn't know what to do so I called my older brother. Jason made a comment about my mother's car, "This car is old anyways, it's probably going to end up in the junkyard." He also said some stuff about our insurance. This is not his place to say anything about our totaled car. So he pretty much indirectly tried to get me to pay him upfront without saying it. And if I didn't pay, then he's not going to get paid for this and his service was a waste. Very rude, don't try and take advantage of me just because I look young. I called AAA to have someone come out and get my keys out of my car. I forgot who it was that came out but he needs more training on how to perform lock-outs on cars that have pillarless car doors like on a newer Ford Mustang. The guy used the plastic trim piece to bend the door hook instead of taking the hook out and realigning it by hand (like you're suppose to do if you need to, which you shouldn't). He ended up breaking the plastic trim that stretches from the side view mirror all the way to the bottom of the B-pillar. I will give him credit though in that he pointed it out and told me that he broke it. But what he didn't tell me, from the beginning, was that you guys are not liable for any damage caused by your employees laziness/stupidity, lack of training, or having the proper equipment. So next time you have this company, or any other company for that matter, do a lock-out make sure that they don't have some stupid money-saving clause like that! It wouldn't be so bad if I was a roadside assistance contractor who makes in a week what most people make in a month. read more

The tow service was actually good. However, the auto service was extremely questionable. The tow guy recommended their shop for some work needed on my car. I used their shop and they had the work done fairly quickly. But, a few days later, the car was acting funny and I called them. They looked at the car again and said they needed to do some other work on it. They also said, if this work does not repair the problem, bring the car back. Well the work did not repair the problem and I got frustrated. I actually was concerned when they said to bring the car back if what they did didn't work. It appeared to me that they were just trying out different things and charging me for something they were not sure about. So, I called the dealership and they fixed my car right the first time. Yes, the dealership may be more expensive but they know how to fix their cars. Shame on you Prostar because you could have just told me you did not know how to fix my car and I could have decided what to do with that information. read more

Called AAA to request a towing service as my VW stalled on the road. The driver showed up on time and quickly proceeded with towing vehicle to my prefer service shop in Newark (Winn VW). He was very nice and helpful. I removed one star because he had removed the bottom part of the rack underneath the bumper on the passengers side to place the hook and chain to pull in the vehicle into the flatbed. Thus, he delivered the vehicle promptly but forgot to replace the part. I had to call AAA to get Pro Star number and called them to report the incident. At first, kept me on hold and switching the people that I was suppose to talk to. I had to called three times as my car was ready from repair and waiting for the removed part to be installed. A different driver showed up and place the item in place but fail to talk to my husband (he had been waiting for 2 hrs) and he just left. The part felt as the latch or hook holding it was broken (when removed) and the mechanic at the VW adhere it with glue to hold it together. Good service but always in a hurry and I guess the first driver should have write a note for him to remember to replace any parts when removed for towing any vehicles. Overall, I will use them again as they're the assigned towing truck with AAA and close to Fremont Area. read more

Worst experience ever. This place is a rip off with no concern for customer service. My car broke down on my way to work and I called AAA to row my car. Pro-Star came to tow my car and I told the driver the location I wanted to tow my car. He talked me into towing my car to a Pro-Star service station stating that they are a AAA service station and that they would provide excellant service for a fair price. Hearing they are a AAA service station I agreed. I told the guy at the front desk that I did not want them to work on my car till I get an estimate. They call me back and told me that they checked the car and that the estimate to repair would be $475. I did not want to pay that much and I told them I did not want them to do any thing and I would tow my car to my original service station that I wanted to go. They made me pay $100 as a diagnostic charge even though I was not advised of any charge by the driver nor the guy at the front desk. I was asked to sign a misleading paper when I dropped by car which showed $0 as the estimate but made me initial a different spot that had a fine print stating original estimate of $100 but does not say it's for diagnosis. Once I told them that I did not want my car repaired they did not care for me anymore. I paid $100 and got my car towed to my regular service station and got my car fixed for $200. I called AAA and filed a complaint as I was ripped off using AAA's good name. I would not have changed my mind and went along with the driver recommendation if these guys did not mention AAA. I sent AAA a copy of the paper work from Pro-Star and the other service station to show them how deceiving Pro-Star is and AAA agreed with my assessment but were not able to convince Pro-Star to return my payment. Pro-Star is taking the stance that since they had my initials so they did are wrong in collecting $100 as diagnostic fees. AAA said that they would bring this up during Pro-Star's renewal coming up in June. I would never, ever use Pro-Star service. read more

this is milpitas location. i had to replace the heater core on my car. when i brought the car home i was not so happy. inside the, there were greased finger prints all over. it took me about an hour to clean all the mess. next, i opened the hood to check the coolant level and i couldn't see the fluid level from the tank. i rolled up a paper and stuck it inside and pulled it out. it didn't look like green or redish color...it was water. they charged me $25 for topping off coolant and probably dropped table spoon of coolant and rest with water. typically you would o 50/50 and still have pretty dark greenish color fluid. i know what color the coolant was and how it feels because it was leaking inside the passanger side and had to clean it. when they can't even perfect the job that can be noticed by customers, i wonder how they do it with the things their customers can't notice until somethng goes wrong again. i would not recommend this place at all. read more
