Our white oak hardwood floors were new 15 years ago, but after that time with a family and pets, we were long overdue for a refinish, lots of scratches/roughness and a couple of significant discolored areas. I had a mild preference for water-based finish vs. Swedish finish, mainly because I'm not crazy about the harsh chemical smell of Swedish during the process. I also found out during the estimating process that Swedish tends to yellow over time which was not a preference of ours for this house. I had 5 businesses out for estimates (and to get educated). They were all nice and passionate about their craft. Three of them said they prefer to work with Swedish finish because it lasts longer (though water-based is apparently both a more expensive material and harder to apply so I wonder if those are reasons too). Pro Tech and one other business seemed experienced with water-based, and while Pro Tech was more expensive, they also seemed more knowledgeable, had the best plan for how to handle the fridge and had far more Yelp reviews so I went with them. We went for vacation and let Pro Tech go to work. They emailed us pictures each day and the result was great. The color change from Swedish to water-based was less yellow which we like a lot, and all the imperfections were gone. The floor looked practically new! And they had cleaned up well - most of the dust was gone - I was expecting it to be much more dusty. I still need to touch up my trim - there is a bit of floor stain on almost every board, so it will be a project - but that was discussed/expected and part of the deal. Overall a strong recommend for Pro Tech. ps- don't wait 15 years - we should have done this 5 ago at least. read more

I am a DIY'er and swapped out some stair treads. The stain I bought from another shop came out too dark, and the new treads didn't match my older flooring. Matt was absolutely incredible. I had reached out to him a few times before we even engaged his company and he was able to give me some advice about our floors over the phone. Eventually we booked him and his company. I was very impressed by his experience as he was able to talk us through a number of similar jobs that he had completed and recommend solutions for us. Our home was built in the mid 40s and had some original fir and a large section that needed new flooring. The subfloor was a complete mess as well and needed to be replaced. His team was able to work around our schedule, restore the original fir floors, fix the subfloor, install new flooring, and fix a few spots of damaged wood. It all looks great and cohesive. Highly recommend! We had flooding in our kitchen and dining room, and the restoration company that we used suggested that we get someone to evaluate the damage to hardwood flooring as well. Our insurance send a different vendor to evaluate and they recommended refinishing the whole wood floor and gave an estimate. I wanted a second opinion, i reached out to Matt after seeing 5 star reviews in Yelp and in facebook groups. Matt was quick to respond to my call and set up an appointment. However after evaluating, he mentioned that there was hardly any damage to the flooring and that refinishing was unnecessary. We were pleasantly surprise to hear that - he knew we had insurance and could have given us a quote and we would have given him the work, but he gave us genuine advise which was beneficial for us and not necessarily for us. We ended up not opting for the refinishing work, but I have no doubts that I'll be hiring Matt and Pro tech for our next hardwood flooring project. They sanded and refinished the hardwood floors on our upstairs and main levels. The best thing was they agreed to do only part of each level at a time. That allowed us to move our furniture into one room and then move it again, a few days later, so we didn't need to move all the furniture completely out of the house.
