I'm from out of town visiting my retired father in Long Beach. At his home, a swarm of fruit flies floated around the kitchen and the upstairs master bathroom, and it finally dawned on me that perhaps the garbage disposal was the issue. I looked up a plumber on Yelp, and I called Prodigy Plumbing at 9 am. Roy answered and told me he could have a plumber stop by between 12 pm - 2 pm that same day. Matt Down arrived ~12:15 pm. Matt explained that since my father wasn't running the upstairs faucets regularly, fruit flies were hatching in the pipes instead of being flushed away by regular running water. He also showed my father how to make the garbage disposal run again since it was stuck. My father and I very much appreciate the amount of time and care Matt took to promptly correct the issues. Additionally, my father asked Matt to examine the upstairs master bath toilet, and Matt pointed out the hairline fracture on the toilet. He explained the toilet had to be replaced. Ozzie came out the very next day to remove the old toilet and replace it with a new one. Finally, Matt recommended a drywall expert, Lazer, who did a beautiful job repairing the drywall in the kitchen ceiling - he also cleaned up the kitchen after he completed his work. Lazer also fixed all of our broken electrical outlets and broken light switches on a later return visit. Matt, Ozzie, and Lazer were all very nice, efficient, and did great quality work! Once again, Prodigy Plumbing gave us peace of mind. After spending a disturbing amount of money on our air conditioning system this last week, we got an email today from the city that there is a possible leak in our home. Apparently, we were showing unusually high numbers of water usage for the past two days. After crying, yelling and finally laughing, we called Prodigy. Osiel "Ozzy" Ocegueda showed up shortly after we called, which was such a relief. Ozzy crawled under the house and checked for leaks from one end to the other. He also checked for leaks in all the usual places, like bathrooms, kitchen, etc.. My partner and I braced ourselves for what we new was going to be thousands of dollars worth of work (our house was built in the 50s). Ozzy called us out and explained that we DID NOT HAVE A LEAK!!! I capitalize that sentence because he could have made something up, given us an estimate in the thousands and we would have been none the wiser. Rather than taking advantage of us, however, he explained the real, simple and costless reason the city's meter was recording such high numbers. He fixed it. No estimates in the thousands, no phony explanations of what was "wrong". He was honest. This is what Prodigy Plumbing is...an honest and reliable company. Ozzy did make great recommendations and prepared us for future plumbing issues that we already knew were inevitable. We now know that at some point in the future, we will have to invest in our plumbing and we are good with that. Prodigy has helped in a couple of dire situations. First was when I realized I had a hot water leak from my copper plumbing under my crawl space. I called three different people I had used in the past, and they either didn't show up or asked me to wait a day, then realized they couldn't show up. I had seen the reviews for Prodigy on Yelp and prayed they could help me out. The good news: someone answered the phone and said someone would be out in two hours to fix the problem and they did. Second time was when I purchased a new range (my oven after 25 years died) but the delivery people couldn't install it because I didn't have one of the 3 sizes of the gas lines that they carry ( I had an odd size). They said they would order it, and I rescheduled for a 2nd delivery. The second delivery men did not come with the correct part so I refused delivery. Called the store manager who said I should probably bring the gas line up to code. Called Prodigy...Matt came out the same day and fixed the problem. I have now rescheduled the third delivery of the range. So to recap: 1) They have always answered the phone when I have called (haven't had to leave a voice message yet) 2) they have come out the same day (so far), 3) everyone that has come out has been super friendly and very efficient as well as taking the time to explain what they could do to fix the problem. I'm sold on Prodigy and have referred them to my Dad who has also had good experiences with them. read more

I really cannot speak highly enough about Prodigy Plumbing. The office I work in had a continuous nightmare of a plumbing issue that put our toilet out of commission nearly a week. We have quite a few employees that had to inconveniently use the bathroom next door. I was put in charge of finding someone new, since clearly our previous guy wasn't cutting it, and was given two stipulations: Reliable and reasonably priced. I am a skeptic and as we all know, plumbers (like mechanics) can be intimidating since they know everything about your pipes that you don't. I called around a few different places and felt very rushed to get off the phone and the quotes seemed unbearably high, until I stumbled upon Prodigy Plumbing through Yelp. First, when I called to make an appointment Mark was courteous, which, off the bat was a departure from all of the other plumbers I previously spoke with that seemed disappointed I ever discovered their number. When he arrived, he was prompt, clean and concise; he explained why our plumbing issues were happening, what he could do to fix it and furthermore, how we could prevent it going forward. This is exactly the way we would all love to do business, right? Last but not least, he did his work while respecting our business and us. Recently the cold-water compression stem in our multi-handle tub/shower failed after 35 years. It was an old fixture by Artistic Brass, a company that went out of business in the late 1990s. We called the plumbing company that we had used for years and discovered it, too, had gone out of business. Luckily, our call was transferred to Prodigy Plumbing in Long Beach. They sent a plumber named Russell Stephan out the following day. He analyzed the problem, took photos and measurements of the old stem, and sent everything by email to a plumbing supply store in Gardena to find a stem that would work. A few days later, Russell called and told us he had found a stem that would work but given the age of our original stems, he suggested we replace both the cold and hot water stems along with the diverter stem. We agreed. Russell came out the following Saturday, removed the old stems, installed the new stems, and carefully tested everything to insure there were no leaks or problems. Our tub/shower is like new again and we could not be happier. During the 35 years we have lived here, Russell was by far the best plumber we have used. His thoughtful and conscientious professionalism was greatly appreciated. I would give Russell and Prodigy Plumbing 6 stars if I could, but 5 is presumably the maximum. Unexpectedly, my gas hot water heater failed after 9 years. I don't have a regular plumbing company to turn to, so I sought referrals from friends. I also used Yelp for plumbing leads. I had never heard of Prodigy Plumbing prior to Yelp, but noticed their 5star rating across ~400 reviews. Roy fielded my call and offered a window from 10-12 for a technician to come out. That was roughly a 1hr wait from when I placed the call. Matt Down called 10min prior to arriving. Matt was very friendly, but professional. I passed on the opportunity for a DIY repair and agreed to a fixed price for a new replacement unit & installation. The price felt reasonable, maybe a little high, but surprisingly Matt was able to remove & replace the unit in less than 3 hours. I was very pleased with the work & Matt is a very pleasant individual to speak with. He was very upbeat & happy to explain what he was doing & seemed very knowledgeable. I think Prodigy Plumbing is fortunate to have an such an exemplary employee. First impressions count, and Matt did make a good impression. I had a great experience with Prodigy Plumbing! Everyone was professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of my home. Day one: Jose came out and did a great job snaking the drain from the laundry area to the kitchen sink and main tie-in. Afterward, Steve performed a camera inspection of the line from the clean-out through the laundry and kitchen tie-ins to the main. He clearly explained the situation and recommended de-scaling, which was scheduled for the next day. Later that afternoon, Marcos came to repair damaged piping near the laundry drain. Day two: Marcos and Fred returned to handle the de-scaling of the entire pipe run. They were efficient and detailed. Steve also came back for a final camera inspection, confirming the line was clean and clear. I coordinated much of the work with Ariel via text, and she was helpful in managing the schedule. The only small issue was that I requested photos of the completed work under the house (so I wouldn't have to crawl under myself), and while Ariel acknowledged the request, it was unfortunately overlooked. Despite that, the team delivered excellent work, and every technician was courteous, tidy, and respectful of my property. However, I'm writing this updated review because of how the company, particularly Joseph, handled the situation afterward. Shortly after my review, Joseph personally reached out to make things right. Even though I had already found and repaired the leak through another provider, Joseph was sincere in his efforts to rebuild trust. He offered to redo the job at no cost, refund me in full, and even provide a complimentary annual appliance/AC service. What really stood out was his professionalism and commitment to customer satisfaction. I explained that I only wanted a refund for the leak detection since it hadn't helped--but Joseph went a step further and refunded me for both the leak detection and the main shutoff valve installation. Our house main drain line was backed up. Running the washing machine, the dishwasher, using the shower, or flushing the toilet, resulted in drain water pooling up inside the house on the bathroom floor. I foolishly tried to open up an old, rusted, cast iron drain line under the house to snake it out, and cracked the pipe wide open. I found Prodigy Plumbing using Yelp and Google, both websites showed very favorable reviews and they're close by in Long Beach. I called and talked with Phil who listened to my problem and quickly assigned a plumber, George, who arrived in 20 minutes. George was later assisted by Phil and two more support techs as it was a pretty tough clog, way down the main drain line towards the city sewer line. George and Phil and the crew had all of the necessary tools, including drain cameras, a heavy-duty drain snake, and a Mongoose high pressure sewer jetter. The clog (tree roots) was cleared and the drain line thoroughly inspected for integrity. George quickly repaired the cracked cast iron drain pipe replacing it with modern plastic. Phil and George and the crew were very cooperative, worked quickly, and did a great job. I highly recommend Prodigy Plumbing. read more

We discovered a water leak between the walls in our adjoining bathrooms over the weekend. We called Prodigy Plumbing Monday morning, and Mark said someone would be at the house at 1 o'clock (not between 1pm and 5pm unlike other companies). Sure enough at 1 o'clock Cesar showed up. He was honest and said he couldn't see exactly where the leak was (there was only a small 18"x18" access panel that he could look into), but he could see the framing wood was wet and the tub was rusting at the bottom. Cesar gave us an estimate, but stated it could be more because he couldn't see how bad the leak was. The final bill was less than we were expecting. The owner, Mark, was able to get his crew to our house and begin working on our bathrooms on Wednesday (they were able to work around our schedule). Cesar and his crew always showed up on time if not earlier. This job took a few days and every evening they left the work place clean and asked if we had any other concerns. The entire crew was neat, clean, courteous and professional throughout the entire job. We will definitely use Prodigy Plumbing for any other plumbing projects. read more

Prodigy installed a full new central HVAC system in our 83 year old, two story Bixby Knolls house in Long Beach. The old gravity furnaces in the basement went out, and we'd been meaning to add AC. This was quite a project. I was very impressed by the Prodigy HVAC team's professionalism and enthusiasm In how they tackled the project. The crew was very good and took pride in their work. They were knowledgeable, respectful, and cleaned up everyday before leaving. They worked directly with their own electrical subcontractor to upgrade our old electrical panels to accommodate the new systems. Eric and Mike were terrific project leaders. They were super responsive, explained everything, and kept us updated. Sal, Isaac, and Daniel were wonderful. They installed two separate AC Pro systems: one in the attic to service the upstairs, and one in the basement and crawl space to service the downstair. It has been 4 days since they finished, and everything is working nicely so far. The new heat feels very comfortable, and I'm looking forward to using the AC this summer! Our daughter & my father-inlaw raved about Prodigy Plumbing. Prodigy is first class & friendly from begining to end. When calling in you receive a "family like" friendly & accomodating greeting, they try very hard to meet U r requested time frame. The plumbers are; neat, clean, well mannered, professional, experienced, honest, and very easy to work with. Matt arrived & with in a few moments had the problem identified and an estimate for us, he also did some some preventive maintenance & fixed some loose ends at no additional charge. Our family perception is that Prodigy is a very close knit team that loves their jobs & the customers they serve. Pricing is very good and they do not try and sell U something that is not needed. They also come to U r house with a huge van loaded with garbage disposals, faucets, & ....This allows Prodigy to have needed product on hand, which reduces cost, these reductions are passed on to the consumer. After careful consideration to whether to write a review or not as there was a small snafu in my whole house replumb/replace of all sewer pipes in my house to the main sewer line to the street. I decided that will. So here it is...1st Prodigy Plumbing is legit, professional, clean & on time! 2nd I was very impressed that the owner of the company came out to ck the job after it was done! He made sure everything was done right. 3rd The snafu was part of the main line steel piping that they did not replace to ABS....I recieved a refund on that quickly & was assured it will fall under the rest of the warranty of the rest of sewer piping they replaced to ABS. Lastly....These guys work hard! & Jerry knows the answer to all your questions. Always answers his cell! If he doesn't he will get back with you quick! The guy (forgot his name) that does the sock/reson on the clay pipes is definitely a pro & knows his stuff! Final.....I waited a couple months to write this review to wait & see if my sewer plumbing is still working well & it is! All in all 5 star! Would reccomend!! read more
