I quoted two jobs with Prodigy. One for a sink drain that was draining slowly and a shower valve replacement. They came in with really expensive and high quotes, both involving unnecessary drywall work to access the plumbing from outside of the house. I was able to go with alternate quotes with both jobs that were more aligned with market rate prices. Both teams lacked basic knowledge of how to perform simple plumbing repairs and were really fast in giving me outrageous quotes with unnecessary drywall work. Avoid Prodigy Plumbing. read more

We called Prodigy for a backed up drain. Trent came first and said they would run a camera first to determine the issue, but he was waiting for his boss to come. His boss arrived, asked a few questions, and said that we needed to descale our sewer line for $4500 or replace the whole sewer line for $7500. I told him that I had no idea what these things cost, so I would call around to a couple of plumbers to find out if this pricing is about right for this task. After calling around, both plumbers I talked to asked if he had snaked the drain and/or run a camera to determine if descaling was what we needed. I went back out to talk with the boss, who told me that he didn't snake it because he has 30 or 40 years of experience and he knows that's what we need. When I questioned him again about the need to clear the line and determine what was needed first, he seemed to get agitated. We couldn't use any plumbing, so I was desperate and asked them to snake the line and then we would figure out what we wanted to do next. He made it clear that he didn't agree with me. He said we were going to continue having problems because descaling was what we needed. I said we weren't ready to do that, and requested that they clear the line. They came in and spent 4 minutes (max) snaking the drain, told me the line was cleared, and got on their way. A simple Google search shows that snaking a drain takes 15-45 minutes. The effort here was abysmal. A few hours later, we, again, had a sewage back up. Obviously not trusting the company that diagnoses based on experience instead of examination and spends no more than 4 minutes to snake a drain, I had a different company come out the next day. They spent 20-30 minutes clearing the whole sewer line and ran a camera through to determine the issue. THE INSPECTION SHOWED NO NEED FOR DESCALING. DOING SO WOULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. They found no mineral deposits, roots nor corrosion build up. The company cleared the drain. There are a few spots with a positive slope and replacing those sections (or the whole line) is recommended. Had we gone with Prodigy, we would have had an expensive line descaled unnecessarily, and we still would have had to deal with the positive slope issue. I've had a good experience with prodigy in the past, but this lack of professionalism and integrity was shocking. I will not take the risk of calling this company again. read more

I am calling this company out for robo calling and refusing to take you off any list that they have purchased with your personal information. They explained I have done business with them before (which I have not) and were offering a follow up free inspection. They have continued to call through this week, and were incredibly rude when reaching out to have my information scrubbed from the call list they have purchased. They are now blocked from my phone, but a plumber should be able to build up their clientele with actually doing a good job at plumbing, not unsolicited telemarketing. These actions are illegal as they are not allowed in the State of CA to telemarket to anyone on a national "do not call list". Do not support this business. read more

I have used Prodigy Plumbing since I bought my house in '09 when they just started. I appreciate that they've sent me a yearly courtesy reminder for a complementary drainage of my water heater which they installed a few years ago. I had a conflict with my schedule and called them to reschedule for later in the day. I received a voicemail message to let me know that if I was still interested. I called and the person who answered couldn't be more pleasant and took care of it. She said Trent was nearby and could be here shortly. Sure enough, Trent showed up. Prodigy is no longer the co.pany they used to be when they were small. Now they upsell. I called them to come to my house to to clear a drain in my garage because it was draining slow. Then they fully clogged it after snaking it and offer me other expensive solutions like hydrojet to clean it out and offered me a good pricing and they'll throw in some free services. I followed my gut instincts and declined their service. I called another plumber and they simply used a bigger snake and got through the clog and resolved the issue for a fraction of the price they quoted me. read more

I was very pleased with their on site customer service. Trent was the guy who came out. I was on a zoom meeting for work and he was very considerate of that. Responded quickly and came out for free assessment of frozen cartridge screw. Couldn't loosen it and quoted me $3500 to go thru master bedroom wall to get to and cut valve so they would crack shower tile. I called another company and they were able to drill and tap out screw for $640. Perhaps it was just plumber who came, but always get second opinion. read more

He said he would arrive between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and he arrived just before 11 a.m. We have dogs and while one of them barks a lot at strangers, he was patient, understanding and knew how to let her warm up to him (and then the barking was no longer an issue). We learned more about our situation and what it would take to fix and he was very upfront with the issue and pricing. I chose this company because of the many positive reviews, but unfortunately I should have paid more attention to the negative ones. I called them because my shower pressure was extremely low--the showerhead was barely dripping. I was told the shower valve needed to be replaced and that the job would take 1-2 days because they would need to access it from outside and open the side panel of my house. Once they opened the wall, they told me the wood was too old to close it back up. They deducted $300 for that, which I appreciated, but this left me with an open side panel that I now need to hire a contractor to repair. After replacing the valve, they tested the shower--and nothing changed. The water pressure was exactly the same. Then a younger plumber simply replaced the showerhead, and suddenly everything worked perfectly. This made it very clear that the valve replacement and opening the house were completely unnecessary and that the issue could have been solved by replacing the showerhead from the start. The entire job took about 4 hours, not the 1-2 days I was quoted. I was charged $3,600, and now I also have additional costs to fix the exterior of my house. I asked for a discount because I strongly believe I was charged for work that did not need to be done. The manager, Rick, was rude, impatient, and unwilling to work with me. He kept insisting the valve was the problem but could not explain why the issue remained after the valve replacement and was only fixed once the showerhead was replaced. We've used this company twice, and both experiences were disappointing in different ways. The first time, they did an okay job, but never came back to finish the small details. I made the mistake of paying before the job was 100% complete, and they never followed through. The second time, I only called them because it was an emergency and no one else was available. That turned out to be a very costly mistake. The job involved replacing a high-end Grohe shower system. Instead of being honest and saying they weren't experienced with this type of installation, they proceeded anyway. While working, they burned my closets and surrounding areas with their equipment. Later, another plumbing company told me they could have easily used flame-retardant protection to prevent this damage. They replaced the shower parts and claimed the job was done--but it was a disaster: No hot water No water pressure Crooked installation Scratched wall plates Overall sloppy and careless work Over two months, they sent six different people, each claiming to be more experienced or a supervisor. Every single one was just as unreliable--taking days to respond to calls and texts and delaying return visits. They also sent plumbers with shockingly poor judgment. One of them jumped my fence to turn the water on and off instead of simply asking us to open the door (we were home). In the process, he broke the fence. In the end, they never finished the job and didn't even have the decency to admit they couldn't handle it. This ended up costing us much more money to fix their mistakes. Got a plumbing inspection done. The plumber, Steven, was knowledgeable and gave me many recommendations during the inspection. Plus, he was not pushy at all on any of the services. I got a PRV installed by Steven as well. He is very attentive to his work and answering my questions. I appreciate his attention to detail. He noticed a leak after installing the PRV, and fixed it right away without any additional charges. The 1 year warranty is great, with an addition to the 6-month subsequent inspection. I see that Prodigy Plumbing makes sure that their work is done properly. I knock off one star due to the plumber being a bit late for the PRV installation appt. The ETA was 8am-10am, but arrived at 12:10pm. I understand that plumbers are busy with previous customers and appointments too. The owner Mark is still i believe a great guy but i think he's become more hands off. Recently i got a canned email for a survey and thought i would get a call back but didn't get anything. Essentially the plumbers and workers now give to the moon estimates and it feels more pressured, like if you don't go with the bid right now i can't give you the same price tomorrow. Prodigy Long Beach installed two HVAC systems in my house and a tankless water heater. I have had the all serviced by Prodigy in the last few years. I made an appointment to have both HVACs and tankless water heater serviced today between 9am to noon. I get a call today from Prodigy Long Beach at 845am that they no longer service HVAC systems. Ok, that is a business decision, but why call me the day of the scheduled service to cancel? Why not call me earlier ? They knew about this appointment for four weeks. They had nothing about tankless water heater service on their schedule for me. I was referred to another HVAC company , but the person from Prodigy knew nothing about the company. I could not find them on the internet. Use any other company. Prodigy Long Beach has a high turnover of employees. I was never able to get the same service technician.
