I am a first time car buyer and had booked a pre-puchase inspection from Proficient Auto Mobile mechanics for a used (150k) Mazda6 2017 that I was planning to purchase. I had done extensive prior research on the known issues with the car so before the inspection, I had asked the mechanic Mike if they needed to know about specific things to check with the car such as for known TSB issues associated with this particular model. He shrugged it off saying they perform their own set of tests for the PPI. After the purchase, I soon realized the touch screen on the infotainment screen does not work due to delamination and none of the manufacturer recommended troubleshooting steps helped. Had to spend $200 to replace the entire screen since I wanted to upgrade the software. A month later, I notice the AC not cooling as soon as the weather got warmer (PPI done in mid-January). I called Proficient auto and they said ac was working when they checked (when weather was already very cold). I had to diagnose it myself and ultimately pinpointed it to low refrigerant in the AC unit. I took it to a local shop who charged $200 (almost same price as inspection) to do a recharge and leak test. The shop said it was as if I had almost no refrigerant left in the car. AC blew very cold after the service, however a few days later I start to hear a whirring noise coming whenever I turn on the AC and press accelerate (even in park). I had to get it diagnosed again and it turned out to be a known technical service bulletin (TSB 01-008-23) with this model where the belt tensioner is known to leak oil. Upon matching images in the TSB with my car, I found it be an exact same match for the issue and have to spend another $400 to replace the tensioner with a new one. Finallty, one of the tail light has already started falling off and I don't know how much I will have to spend on fixing that one. I generally don't write negative reviews but all this happened within 2 months of me getting the car and each diagnosis was very simple and visual only which would take any experienced mechanic less than 5 minutes and some extra equipment such as pressure gauges for the ac. I understand pre-purchase inspections can never reveal everything that's wrong with the car but these were especially simple checks which I could have leveraged to re-negotiate the price of the car with the seller. They even failed to mention that the tint levels on the car windows were illegal and I got pulled over for it once and had to get it removed myself! The amount of headache that I got with this purchase does not warrant paying around $200 for the PPI. I do not recommend anyone to go here for a PPI especially for a used car which is older since their inspections are not thorough. read more

The pictures i got from inspection did not show what dealer showed. I will not buy truck and dealer banned inspection company from inspecting at their dealership. Tim did a thorough inspection and noted 3 issues: battery needed to be replaced, power steering fluid was low, and brakes were at 30%. My issue was when we agreed on a price and he said theyd call me the next day to set up the appoiment... Deplorable "customer service." These positive reviews have got to be fake. I was told I would need to pay $65 for their diagnostic service before anything could be done. This "service" consisted of some guy in a pickup truck driving my car, literally, around the block before flicking cigarette butts in my yard and telling me what I already told him. My son has a 1999 cadillac that is on its last leg. He tried to replace the fuel pump but.... it got complicated! We didn't want to spend a fortune on this repair. He told the mechanic that he wanted to save money as much as possible. The mechanic got the car running again. He left the "buttoning up" of the engine to my son in order to save money.... The A/C had been broken on my Ford 500 for a while and just never got around to fixing it. Finally reached out to a few places for quotes to get it fixed since I needed to take a long road trip and there was no way I was doing it without air conditioning. Not only do they come out to you, but they were by FAR the best quote around. Might be because I'm a woman or other places were just lazy, but another place quoted $1K MORE than this place. Easy to book an appointment through Erik who was really professional and friendly. Bonus - if you can't reach via phone, they can text you. The mechanic, Scott showed up a few minutes early and was also completely professional and friendly. No grumbling even though it was HOT out. Our Xterra had some sudden electrical problems, and we called Proficient for some support. Chris came out to our home in the afternoon and diagnosed an alternator issue, and noted some problems with the electrical system. We purchased the part at CarQuest, and the next day, he came out and replaced it, patiently explaining the problems he saw, and what we should do to fix them. Later that evening, the vehicle acted up again, and Chris met us out in nasty weather to resolve the issue, which turned out to be fairly complex; his amiable demeanor, expertise, responsiveness and work ethic turned what would have been a painful experience with a shop and AAA into a shining example of great service and good business. Terrible service. I will never attempt to use again. We told them what the problem was, and explained how to fix it. They had the keys in their possession for over a week before work really began. After work began, the mechanic wanted to replace the entire low pressure power steering line. We explained that this was not necessary and that all he had to do was cut the rusted portion of line out and clamp a hose on both ends. They insisted that this would not work (it does work, I've done it myself many times on cars of mine...not a permanent long term solution, but it will hold for a few years). Anyways, I let them know that if they weren't comfortable doing that then that's OK we will find another mechanic. End result? Mechanic left parts all over the ground in my apartment complex parking garage, the actual power steering line was half taken apart and just lying under the car on the ground. When we went to work on it to actually resolve the problem we had to first put back together the half taken apart work from the mechanic, and had no idea where several screws were. Additionally, they charged us for the approx. 1-2 hours of labor that they spent taking apart my car. So, we got charged $150-200 for the mechanic to half take apart our car and leave it that way. On top of that, the scheduling and customer service was very poor. They had the keys in their possession for a couple of weeks total. Thankfully this was a second car and not a primary. I am sooooo glad I found Proficient Auto. I was hesitant because i figured they would be expensive, due to the fact that they were coming to my home and doing the work. I had an idea what was going on and prayed it would be a simple fix. But you know how that goes, nothing ever cheap when it comes to cars. I called the office and was explained how they charged for the diagnostic visit, and how if they did the work a portion of that would be applied. I felt it was reasonable. They gave me a time frame to expect Clarence in. Sure enough he arrived in a timely manner. I explained what I was experiencing. Clarence took one look and knew what needed to be done. He even located the nuts and bolts the had loosened and flew up on the ledge where the wipers are attached. Clarence went straight to work and put things back together all the while explaining things while he works. He was extremely pleasant. When I received the news on cost, it blew me away. They came to my house, diagnosed the problem, did the repair, even cashed me out. All without me even having to leave the house. Will be using them when ever I need a mechanic. They came to my workplace less than two hours after I made my initial inquiry and assessed, addressed, and fixed my problem for the $75.00 diagnostic fee. To say I am a satisfied customer would be a huge understatement. Finding an honest auto-mechanic can often be a long, arduous process; well I'm new to the area and am just thrilled that I won't have to shop around next time I need some work done on my car. used for several jobs, never had an issue. as a vehicle owner i believe it is my responsibility to know what the problem is, and then decide if it's worth my time to fix it myself or pay someone else. some of the negative comments seem to relate to this, vehicle ownership is always a bad investment and provide a return at a loss. by learning a bit about vehicle maintenance and repair, you can mitigate some of the loss. read more

My alternator went out and since my car was at my house, I was going to have to get it towed in order for anyone to work on it. A friend suggested that I try a mobile mechanic. I had never heard of this before, but I googled it and found Proficient Auto Mobile Mechanics. I gave them a call and they came out to my house the next day and replaced my alternator. These boys are worse than dodgy they lie and never come back. They took my entire tax refund check $700. Robert swore to fix my car."No matter what we will get it fixed." Per Robert. Its been sitting 3 years now. It was overheating. Whatever he did made it WORSE. They owe me a new engine on a 2001 sports car. The mechanics they send act like they are either on crack or meth. Look at it dumbfounded and claim they'll be back. Then it's excuse after excuse.They do NOTHING but still want $65 cash. After cheating me out if another $65. I demanded that back. ROBERT said he would return it. Never brought it or would give me an address. He had been to my apt. Several times so was able to drop it off in his BMW but chose to be a thief. Now I see they are in Cary & advertising @ the State Fair so I had to speak up. I have never had a worse business experience as this one.
