I had an irrigation control valve burst on me in the morning right before work. I could not get the water to stop because our system is old with no shut-off valve in-line with the control valves. I had to shut the main water line off to be able to get to work. Juan came by late in the evening after I contacted him about getting the valve replaced same-day. Showed up 30 minutes later and got the valve replaced and restored water back to our house that SAME DAY. Super pleased with Juan's work and same-day service. I will be hiring him to install a shut-off valve in line with the control valves for my next project. Price was fair and reasonable and I wouldn't hesitate to use Juan for future needs. I recently had Juan of ProGreen to my home to trim a palm and a hedge, as well as remove a large cardboard (cycad) palm. He was punctual and worked intensely until the job was done. I was impressed with his knowledge of how to go about completing the projects, especially since the palm had a very unusual shape. He made suggestions that were helpful and readily accepted any changes that had to be made. I have worked with numerous individuals/companies on landscape projects at my home but have found few as efficient and easy to work with. Juan was good about getting to my house in a timely manner both times I needed his help. Several weeks after his 2nd visit we had a problem with his installation. I called him and he said he'd be out in a couple of days. He was a no show. Waited a couple of days and still not having heard from I called and left a message. Still no return call. I finally got a hold of him and he said he's busy and it'd be a least a couple of weeks before he could get out to my home. Not cool! Our yard was overgrown with weeds, and I wanted something that would be drought friendly. However, I was lacking imagination and didn't know exactly what I wanted. I scheduled a consultation for my irrigation sprinkler system so that he could provide a quote for me. The appointment was for the very next day. I left work early to meet him. He not only didn't show up but he ignored my calls and texts. Here I am a week later, still haven't heard back. We had a huge leak happening so we've decided to shut off the water to them for now. I get we all have things that come up, but a pro would call or text apologizing for ghosting me on the quote. read more

We hired Juan from Progreen for several clean-up projects around our property, including removing an old chain link fence and cement foundation and leveling out the upper lot of our backyard. First, Juan and his crew cut the fence posts and left all of the cement footers in the ground, which we had to dig out ourselves to have a new fence installed. Second, when breaking up the old cement foundation, Juan got the Bobcat stuck twice and broke several blocks off of our brand new retaining wall, as well as damaged the line to our septic pump. A tow truck had to be called to keep the Bobcat from tumbling over the wall. When attempting to level out the back lot, he left a large dip in the middle that would create a large puddle whenever it rains. We had to rent a Bobcat and hire someone else to come in and repair the damage Juan did on our property.  When leveling out the mess Juan made, huge chunks of concrete were found throughout the yard where he buried the concrete rather than disposing of it as we had agreed. Ultimately, we will never hire Progreen for any services again. read more

I hired Juan (ProGreen Gardeners) to do a bunch of demo and haul away on a large project. Right from the start Juan was not prepared with the tools needed and was cutting corners and argumentative. Juan assured me he knew how to run a Bobcat and brought in a rental to brake up a slab and grade the lot. Within minutes of getting on the Bobcat it was obvious Juan had no clue what he was doing and had the Bobcat stuck on top of a line sending water up to my leach field and wedged against a retaining wall. Another contractor on the property finally stopped him and a tow truck was called to winch the Bobcat out. The repair to the pipe is going to be $450.00. Juan also did the grading completely wrong. I had to hire another contractor to bring in another Bobcat to regrade the property and he uncovered where Juan had pushed more than 1/2 of the concrete from the slab he broke up into the back of the property and covered it up. No wonder he could not grade properly, he was busy hiding concrete to save on dump fees. Needless to say Juan is not allowed on my jobs again. The man is a danger to anyone allowing him to work on their property. read more

Juan would come out to maintain my landscaping and generally did a good job. However, he chopped down my 2 year old avocado tree down to a 3 inch stump and when I texted him about it, he became defensive and said he knows trees very well. I told him to communicate with me in the future if he was going to cut something down. One month later, I woke up to find my thriving leucadendron chopped down and tossed into the canyon. The weeds around that plant were all still intact though, so I have no idea what happened. Again, no communication from Juan about that incident, so I let him go. read more

I am very satisfied with Juan's work. Because of me not being home much of the latter part of last year, and the rains, my yard was terribly overgrown with grass, and extremely high weeds. I got ahold of Juan through Craigslist to help me out with situation. I sent some photos via text, and we agreed on a price (which I thought was quite fair). He and his helper promptly at the agreed upon time. This is HUGE for me, as I had to take time off work to be home, and also this seems to be a big problem in people hired for stuff like this. Juan came to repair sprinklers and valves that were leaking making the water bill twice the usual cost. He repaired one side but not the other and I can't get him to come back to finish what he missed fixing. Very frustrating. He was really nice but the problem is not fixed and the water bill continues to soar! Is this a one-person company? Why is it so hard to get here? He made excuses and rescheduled a couple times and now he's not even returning my calls. I don't recommend this company....or person. I will amend this review if something changes. read more

i would love to give zero stars. i reached out to several landscape/maintenance companies for an estimate on projects. progreen, juan, was one company that responded in a timely fashion. this past saturday morning (8.7.22) juan offered two time slots for a home visit. i chose the afternoon from 2-4pm. i requested confirmation on this time slot, as i had other things to do yesterday. never EVER received a confirm via yelp, phone or text. obviously this is a huge red flag!!! today i received a yelp msg again. juan asked if he could come by tomorrow. no apology, nothing. i immediately wrote back and asked why he didn't get back to me yesterday. his retort, and i quote: "Maybe I did not received your massage right away. And I was hiking ." if you cannot treat a potential customer well from the 'first hello', then you have lost them for good. i am one of those potential customers. juan needs to go hiking instead of carrying on his business. the reviews of his company and self certainly speak volumes. read more

We are so pleased by Juan's work on our garden! We started out with a great gardener/designer who was unable to continue because of illness, and then we went through some terrible experiences with "gardeners" who killed off a lot of our plants and didn't know anything about low-water gardening. The great San Diego windstorm of late January 2016 caused a palm tree on our property to topple onto the walkway to our house. A crisis! My wife checked out YELP and was impressed by the very positive reviews for ProGreenGardeners. Juan H. was soon at our door with an assistant. We asked for an estimate for tree removal and also for several other jobs that needed to be done--trimming three tall bottlebrush trees, cleaning up an easement area between two hedges in our backyard (a big job!), and repairing control units for our front and backyard sprinkler systems. Juan quickly gave us a written estimate that was quite reasonable in comparison with what other yard maintenance contractors had charged us over the years for similar work. He did the complex sprinkler repair, his assistant did the tree trimming and clean up, though Juan joined him once he'd finished the repairs. The work of both was excellent. We'll certainly call ProGreen again when we need yard work and/or sprinkler system repairs. Juan is friendly, communicates well, and is thoroughly professional.
