O Come, All Ye Fried Rice with Hanger Steak
    Bari T.

If you're looking for a spot in Charleston that truly leans into the holiday spirit, Prohibition goes all out with its Christmas decorations from the moment you walk in. It sets the tone immediately, and the festive energy carries straight through the meal. We kicked things off with Bloody Marys and a Morning Fog -- simple, classic, and done right. For starters, we shared the Hula Hoisin Wings. They were definitely on the heavier side with the hoisin, but still absolutely delicious. The Mistletoe Mango Tuna Poke Tacos were a standout. They come as a small plate with three appetizer-sized tacos, and every bite was bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. The Buddy the Elf Burger offers a choice of a single or double patty; ours was cooked perfectly. The smoky bacon really brought everything together and gave it that extra "wow" factor. We rounded things out with the O Come, All Ye Fried Rice with Hanger Steak, which was another winner -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. As if the meal wasn't great enough on its own, we happened to be there while Emily Curtis was performing. She's truly incredible and added such a fun, memorable vibe to the day. I'd be remiss not to mention Kevin our server. Go see him. He was great. The whole team works great together. Don't let the bar-like atmosphere fool you -- Prohibition is far from your typical bar food or bar scene. There's a great space in the back, and the elevated menu makes it absolutely worth the visit. A festive, flavorful, all-around fantastic experience.

My first time checking out this spot. It was later in the evening but luckily there was barely a line so it was easy to get in. There was no cover charge. The main room bar was packed and a dj was performing. The lights on the dance floor were a fun vibe. There were accessible restrooms. I liked the second room/bar, it gave me speakeasy vibes. There was also an outside area for standing/sitting as well as a bar and accessible restrooms. I would like to check this place out in the future to see what food they serve.

This restaurant has a cool vibe and some rather yummy food. Stopped here for lunch and sat on there back patio which was very nice and chill. Got the deviled eggs, wings, and chopped cheese burger. The eggs were fantastic and highly recommend this. The wings were decent and the chopped cheese had some great flavors. The drink menu was good and had plenty of cool mixed options. The bartender made a nice expresso martini. Service was friendly, but slow, and hectic. We got our entree before our appetizer and the wings came with the check. Overall, id definitely recommend.

Great Father's Day brunch here. We had pork belly tacos and the chicken sandwich. Great food and a great atmosphere. Love music was a bonus!

This is a bit of a tapas spot. They have veggie, beef, and fish sections for "small plates." I had the deviled eggs, served with chicken "cracklin," fried capers, dill, and chives, which were fine. They would be great for a potluck, but in a restaurant setting, I wasn't overly impressed. Don't regret ordering them, but wouldn't order them again. I also had the heirloom tomato toast, which I also wouldn't order again. I couldn't pick up on the sharp cheddar at all, the tomatoes were tasteless (not the restaurants fault, all the taste has been bred out of tomatoes unless you grow your own these days). But they were fine. My favorite part of the meal was probably the smashed cucumber salad, made with ginger and avocado dressing, cherry blossom shoyu, black mint, and togarashi. The flavors were complex, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. For my main course (honestly the small plates were more than enough), I had the fish of the day, which was mahi mahi, corn chowder pancetta, leeks, and potatoes. The dish overall was savory (though a little salty) and overall good, but I've learned over time that mahi mahi is a bland, trashy fish. The sword fish I had at High Cotton the night before was much more succulent. I also tried their fries, which were cut like "chips," and they were delicious. Loved the tiny bottles of Hines ketchup. The drink list is long, and all I had was delicious. Nockturnal Days (tequila blanco, mezcal, pineapple, passionfruit, ginger, honey, cilantro, bitters), the warthog (gin, spiced pear, lemon, honey, rosemary), and the jackalope (gin, tonic, botanicals, grapefruit rose mist). All drinks were light and tasty, though nothing stood out as an amazing selection. Service was great. On top of it and helpful. Other dishes include red pepper Romesco dip, pierogis, caesar salad, liver mouse, wings, tartare, oysters, burgers, steaks, gnocchi, and more. Would definitely go back again. In a touristy part of town/shopping part of town, so a lot to do in the area. You can catch lunch or dinner here. Or just cocktails.

Fun place to try. We went for drinks at night, and then brunch a separate day. Mixed reviews. The brunch was excellent. The food options were top notch. I loved my shrimp and grits and they have a fun version of French fries. The mimosas were amazing; I loved the Champaign they used. Our server was very helpful and was great to chat with. The prices were great and the live music was beautiful. The time we went for drinks was different. We got blank stares from the bartender. We asked about the brunch hours/days and the server said they knew nothing. I was then openly mocked for asking questions. Due to that, we moved to the patio bar and that server was much more helpful and the vibes out there were perfect. I'm glad I gave the place a second chance because I did truly love the food, vibes, and music. Besides for one person

Great bar and food spot on King Street. My group of six ladies ordered a bunch of tapas and drinks and devoured all of them. Of course I had another peach old fashioned which was amazing. The baked stuffed oysters were delicious as well. I think at this point my whole table was pretty drunk so I didn't take any more pictures of the food, but I know that I thoroughly enjoyed what we had including the Brussels sprouts.

Stopped into prohibition on a Thursday night for dinner and we were immediately seated at a booth. The interior gives rustic vibes with modern American food & creative cocktails. At night it turns into a jazzy drinking spot with live music. Our cocktails were delicious. Our server recommended we get a bunch of plates for the table and eat tapas style. The brussel sprouts were very flavorful and seasoned well. The mussels got eaten in .5 seconds, the sauce was so good we asked for more bread to eat it with. The gnocci was very bland, the best part was the cauliflower cooked with it. The Mac n cheese was also pretty bland, tasted like a rue made with a bit too much flour. Overall this dinner was a little pricey. But the ambiance was fun and we enjoyed being right on king street. I would recommend prohibition!

Food and drinks were both good... not the best I've ever had but good. Lunch on a Friday... several ppl at the bar but we were the only seat customers. The waitress was indifferent and seemed as they we were bothering her ....which is fine, as I was equally "bothered" by her and her attitude. I liked the bar and restaurant and the menu was solid. Our service would have made this 5 stars but we have lots of other choices on King Street that will have staff more excited for our business.

Went to this spot on King Street in Charleston, SC with a group of six. We sat in the back patio area which has a bar (was closed) at the time and plenty of tables for other groups. Waitress was very accommodating and was able to answer all questions we had. Unfortunately the food orders came out sparingly but once the food came out it was good. Eggs Benedict, Double Brason Burger, Chopped Cheese were among the food orders. Everything g was good. I would recommend this place and would like to go back for dinner

Prohibition always has the best holiday drink menus and decorations! They do such a good job for Halloween and Christmas. The peak weekend hours can be a little much and over crowded with college students but aside from that we've always had a good time here.

    Ask the Community - Prohibition

What are the gluten free options?

Burger without the bun (w/ french fries. But CC bc no dedicated fryer). The fried rice with protein - shrimp or chicken.…

Is there a formal dress code or is it casual?

Casual. Prohibition is a place where the party crowd goes to on the weekends.

How much time should be allowed for brunch?

    1-2 hours

    Is this place 21+?

    I believe so

I made Valentine's reservations but I'm looking at the actual menu now and I don't see the vegan options? I booked this place because my wife is vegan and it's listed as having vegan options.

There are vegan options, however at the moment it is limited. The local greens salad (listed as an appetizer but is large enough to be an entree) and the Brussels sprouts can be made vegan.

    Is there outdoor area?

Yes! There's 3 sections, first the large main dining room, then the back / sunroom bar, and then the partially covered patio.

    Is there currently indoor dining?

    Yes

Is a reservation needed for dinner?

Reservations are not required, but I highly suggest making one! This place gets busy and seating can be hard to find.

What night is the live music? What times?

From the website: From blues and soul to jazz and swing, we host the best bands and DJs in town 6 nights a week.…

What night are the swing dance lessons?

    I believe on Wednesdays.

From the moment I walked in, the vibe was intimate, beautiful, and the perfect setting for a relaxed Saturday night cap. What made the experience truly special was the bartender. There's no traditional menu, instead, he takes the time to learn what you like and crafts drinks based on your taste. I've never experienced anything like that before. The level of knowledge and creativity behind the bar was incredible. Every drink he made was stunning and tasted even better than it looked. I was honestly so impressed that I couldn't even remember all the ingredients he mentioned because I was too busy being amazed at how good everything was. It was one of those moments where you realize there are real levels to this craft. I walked in thinking I knew a thing or two about mixing drinks at home, and left with a whole new respect for the art of it. The atmosphere, the personal attention, and the quality of the cocktails made this place feel truly top tier. Huge shoutout to the bartender, easily a 15 out of 10. Cool, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he does. If you're looking for an intimate spot for date night or just want to experience thoughtfully crafted cocktails in a beautiful setting, the Annex is the place. I will absolutely be back as soon as possible.

We had a great table right slab dab in middle of the restaurant. There weren't too choices to choose from as a gluten-free girlie but the summer salad with grilled chicken was pretty tasty.
