We only visited here during the winter holidays. This review is based for only during this time period. This place was awesomely decorated! From head to toe and front to back (from the window to the walls! :-) ) there were Christmas lights and decor everywhere! We were loving it! This bar/restaurant has three bars: The main front bar, the secondary bar passed the kitchen, and the tertiary bar outside in the back. We explored all three. The bar service was great, and they had a lot of good selections outside of the holiday menu. The holiday menu had a decent amount of holiday themed cocktails also. We haven't tried the food here yet, but maybe on our next visit. This was fun. read more

My daughter and I were doing some shopping on King Street and decided to have lunch at Prohibition. This was my first time visiting. We walked in, and it was like a Christmas explosion! Beautiful twinkling lights and holiday decorations set the mood for the "Sipp'in Santa experience. Our server was very friendly and was wearing cute elf ears to add to the holiday ambiance. He shared the custom cocktail menu and food menu. I started off with a glass of delicious Prosecco. They were serving lunch, so there were limited options. I chose the avocado toast BLT with a side salad. The food came out quickly, and our server checked on us often to make sure the food was just right and to check on our drink refills. The Avocado Toast BLT was a large sandwich on sourdough toast with avocado, crispy, delicious bacon, tomato slices, and arugula. It was delicious. I couldn't finish the whole sandwich and wasn't able to eat the side salad. The portions are very generous. Our server didn't rush us and brought the check for when we were ready. The prices are a little steep, but the quality of the food, drinks, and service made the overall experience worth it. I would recommend Prohibition and will be back to try some other selections. read more

Had high hopes for this place. Went on a weekend and the place was nearly deserted. That should have been the first sign. It is just a normal bar and doesn't have the vibe of a prohibition speakeasy. It is more in line with a tavern. We had a hard time ordering since they were out of the first three items we picked. We ended up with the bone marrow with was good. If you're looking for a great experience the Great Depression with street parking, great food & drink and uncomfortable chairs, you're in for the perfect place! The front of the restaurant is pretty dark, so if you're in for a more romantic dinner, definitely ask to be seated there. If you're wanting more light and/or outdoor seating, ask for the back of the restaurant. There's a beer garden that is open on the weekend and it's super cute and chill. Great photo ops to be had! Let's talk drinks: The Shrute Sour and Rusty Chain were a favorite! The bacon bourbon old fashioned was also enjoyed and delicious. Appetizers: These were gone before I could get photos! The charred chicken wings (6each) and crispy Brussels sprouts were perfectdeliciousiwishicouldhaveeaten50ofthem good. The brussel sprouts were perfectly toasted and not over cooked. The wings had the perfect char! When asked about the process, Nick (our server) told us the wings go through a 3-day process of being brined, then sous vide, then charred and somewhere in between they are dry rubbed. Seriously some of the best wings I've ever had. The Roasted Red Pepper Romesco Dip was also very delicious. The bread smelled a bit like funnel cake but was perfectly paired with the dip. Entrees: The 12oz Strip Steak was perfection. I would suggest ordering one step rarer than normal as the medium-rare was pink like a medium. The medium was more like a medium well-done. But even then, the steak was amazing! It was buttery soft, no knife needed. The gratin is delicious - if you like bleu cheese! I was not a fan but my husband and brother-in-law absolutely loved it. The green beans and mushrooms were fabulous and cooked perfectly. My husband and sister-in-law had the catch of the day which was swordfish. They said it was absolutely delicious! The same goes for the burger and the Saffron Fideos. Desserts: the warm donuts and custard are a light, tasty treat to top off the evening. The donuts were airy pockets of crispy dough covered in cinnamon sugar and drizzled I'm delicious caramel. The chocolate hazelnut custard was light and fluffy and not overly sweet. This review is for Sippin' Santa, Prohibitions Christmas bar. Prohibition does suuuuch a great job this time of year. We went in search of Christmas cocktails on a Saturday in December which was risky, but so worth it. While there was a line to get a table (about a 25 minute wait, we were told), there was plenty of room to walk around and check out the bars/sit outside. The Christmas themed drink menu (and accompanying glassware) is unreal. I was nervous that the drinks would all be super sweet and gimmicky, or very expensive without being strong, but that was far from the case. We tried the Sippin Santa, Yule Tide, North Pole Bowl (for sharing), and Ginger Snapper Shots. Honestly hard to pick a favorite they were all super unique and very strong. Even with the chaos of a jam packed bar, the service was phenomenal and super friendly. Such a great place for a fun Christmas Day! read more

We came for dinner on a Sunday evening. The food was good, but the service was the worst of any place we visited in Charleston. When we arrived the host completely ignored us for several while having a conversation with friends. When he finally decided we were worthy of being seated, he walked us through a half-full room out to a completely empty (and chilly) patio. We said we'd prefer indoor seating, he took us to an empty table, and a server grilled us on why we were sitting there. Service did improve slightly as we ordered food, but the pacing was off. Entrees came out before we had finished small plates--and we had asked to have them held until after we finished the apps. The food tasted fine, but there are so many better experiences in Charleston-I would skip this one. read more

We had brunch reservations for six on a Sunday. The service was excellent from start to finish. I had the huevos rancheros and it was delicious! The egg was cooked perfectly and the flavors melded together nicely. 14- The brunch burger Looked amazing, but it was definitely tough not to make a mess with the egg on top with the bacon jam. $19- My uncle got the eggs, bacon, and biscuits. He loved them and everyone enjoyed the bacon as he shared it with us. I added a half slice of bacon the my maple bacon old fashioned as a garnish and made my drink what it should've been . All of his items had to be ordered separately so at $7 each his breakfast rang up at $21. All of the drinks were excellent, the favorites were the sour drink made with beet infused vodka and lime called the schrute sour and the Carolina wren. My review is only for drinks which were good. We had two peach old fashioned an and the bartender warned us they were sweet like really sweet but they were far from that. The place has two long bars. One in front and one in the way back. It's nicely decorated and in the center of all the action. We did try the crab deviled eggs but it was definitely way more egg and mustard than crab. This was our favorite bar of the trip. Dark, good music, cool decor, and great drinks. 1. Manhattan. The best I've ever had. Light on the vermouth so it wasn't too heavy on the palate. 2. Fruity mock tail. My pregnant wife asked for something light and refreshing and whatever they came up with was a hit. She had 2 and enjoyed them. 3. Peanut Butter Banana dessert. Very cutely decorated for the holidays! Went for a work outing and enjoyed their holiday cocktails and small plates to share. A bit of a bummer you can only order the holiday cocktails as I'm not much of a vodka drinker and that's what most of the drinks are made with and you can't sub for another liquor. The food was pretty good, we shared the deviled eggs, nachos, pierogies, brussel sprouts and fries. The brussel sprouts were my favorite with a nice crispy texture. Service: very atttentive and friendly. Drink: Cooper River golden ale. Malty punch, a bit of hoppy taste on top, citrus aftertaste, as crisp as a lager. Good beer. Food: Bacon---lightly charred and crispy, a bit too salty for my taste. Charred wings---great dish, a delicate combination of sweet, savory and smoky taste. Chicken wings had crispy skin and super tender meat inside. Gorgonzola ranch packed the right amount of cheesy flavor but not too thick; it elevated the dish from a snack to a decent starter. Chicken & Biscuit---fried chicken done right, perfect crispy rub and juicy, savory meat. Wish the sausage gravy could be slightly saltier. Overall: probably shouldn't have such heavy food for brunch, but all dishes came out right and the atmosphere was great. 4.5 stars. read more

Came here on a weekday to enjoy some cocktails! I had the espresso martini with is actually cold brew and a couple of other liquors, but was still really good. Not a biker friendly establishment. Had to tell them i was with the band to get service. Dining and bar full of Charleston pretentiousness. Didn't want to sit me. Ordered the crispy brussel sprouts chili-lime sauce, cilantro, pickled carrots. Burnt to a crisp more like it. Nice flavor apart from tasting to charred. It probably would have been better if they knew i was doing a review. Did go well with the beer once i stirred up the sprouts. No decent dark beers not even a local holy city Pluff Mud Porter. Came in looking for a chill bite and some drinks after a show at the music hall, I had my service dog with me, never had issues before with access. Bouncer at the door would not allow entry even after explaining both ADA laws as well as state laws regarding service animals, was told that he had been doing this for 14yrs and did not care that others may be scared of my service dog so he needed to check with the others in the restaurant before allowing me in. I again explain that's not how it works with a service animal, and the bouncer then decided to get very argumentative and frankly rude, I asked my husband to go and get the establishments manager and explained to her the situation and the lack of knowledge but also the unwillingness for her bouncer to listen to laws. I told her that it was very evident their needs to be some education for the staff regarding how service animals are allowed and to be treated, she agreed and assured me there would be conversations. Hopefully there is and the next individual with a service animal is not embarrassed on their doorstep like I was, maybe in the future we will see if worth trying again. The bouncer did instruct me to post this review as he said reviews don't even matter, so definitely an employee that is a poor reflection of the establishment. There was an amazing restaurant right down the street that did welcome us in including my service dog even taking time to ask if he needed water or anything- definitely actions this establishment could learn from. read more

Excellent drinks and bar menu in a very cool setting. We sat in the back bar area which was fairly quiet the whole evening which enabled us to chat with the bartenders who were friendly and helpful. All of the drinks we had were great and they even made a couple classics for me on request. We particularly liked the food, especially the smoked tartar which had an amazing presentation. Definitely a great place to stop in if you're a fan of well made drinks and creative dishes. My only complaint were the bar stools had no backs and were incredibly uncomfortable. read more

This was one of my foodie bucket list spots that I finally got to visit! Parking was found on the street, they do have garages all over Charleston that are reasonably priced. All the staff were practicing Covid restrictions, our table had plenty of distance between the other patrons. I had the chicken biscuit with gravy and a cocktail, everything was delicious and prepared well! They have a bar and plenty of seating inside and I believe I saw tables in the back outside. My wife and I came out for a little date night and were pleasantly surprised with the service, food and ambiance at Prohibition. The menu is set up as small plates broken apart by cheeses, beef, seafood and breads. I highly recommend the ribeye, shrimp fried rice and mussels. My wife enjoyed the fried chicken thigh and the perogie. The drinks were also good, I had the mojito and she had the spicy margarita. My family members and I came here on a busy Saturday for lunch and found 4 seats at the bar. They were serving food off of their brunch menu. Stopped in for a quick midday drink during their holiday pop up shop. The decor is so cute and they really commit! We didn't eat anything, so no comments on that. We were seated quickly and the bartender was so nice. We ordered a couple holiday drinks and she was so helpful in selecting and even editing one of the drinks when it wasn't sweet enough for my mom. The prices were a little high, but it was to be expected for a "limited" time experience. Will be back to check out the regular menu. read more
