I had the most incredible experience with their team - every member of the staff was beyond attentive and detail-oriented. I had an event in the backroom of this space in April 2024 for around 50 people. I was absolutely blown away by the service that was provided. Kayly was fantastic to work with. She checked in with me multiple times before the event, made suggestions to make the event better, and kept me updated as the event went on. The space was perfect. There is a private bar in the back with a door that can shut to the rest of the bar. There was a live band playing, which we were able to play through the speakers and adjust the volume as needed. The actual event was excellent. The passed appetizers were delicious and a hit among the guests, especially the ice cream bars! The bartenders were fabulous, friendly, and made excellent drinks. Even when the time of the event was over, the staff was courteous and let us stay in the space longer and enjoy the live music. The price was also reasonable compared to other private spaces on the UWS. I would highly recommend and will certainly be back! Thank you Kayly and all of the staff at Prohibition! read more

I have such mixed feelings about this place. First of all, I had perhaps the most tasty cocktail of my life here-- so tasty that I ordered a second one (at $18.00 each, this was no minor decision). It was the Miller's Crossing, btw. However, the art is terrifying and the service completely sucked. To start off, we were seated in the middle of the room and had to go through traffic, even though there were ample open tables to the side (my friend is in a wheelchair, so this seemed unncessarily cumbersome. When I hosted, I did my best to allow for a clear path when guests were in wheelchairs or had crutches). People had to get out of their chairs to allow us to pass by. Of course, they were kind about it and smiled at us graciously (okay, some with sympathetic, almost pitying looks). And the host put us directly in front of the stage, which was perhaps the loudest spot in the place. Then no one came. For a long time. I'm thinking nearly 10 minutes. If it wouldn't have been a huge to-do to get out of there and inconvience a bunch of people all over again, I would have suggested we bolt. When we wanted a second round (my friend had to try the Miller's Crossing because he saw how much I enjoyed mine), we had to flag down a different server because ours was MIA. I don't think this was her fault-- she seemed to be overextended. That drink is the only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars. The second Miller's Crossing was almost as tasty as the first. I threw a 50th birthday party for my husband last Saturday night. We booked the speakeasy room in the back and had the most amazing party! This. Place. Is. AWESOME. No lie, I may have had one of the best nights of my life at Prohibition. Yes, it has to do with the band playing that night because they were incredible, doing covers of songs from the 80s to today. We ROCKED out all night. The crowd is great too, and very diverse. There were young 20somethings, and even semi-elderly (I'm talking like...60s), singing, dancing, and having a blast. Stopped in here for a quick drink before heading home and I'm glad I did! Prohibition is a really cute bar that's very on brand with decor. I went kind of early in the evening (7:30p on a Saturday) before the live music started so it wasn't super loud. We sat right at the bar but there's tons of seating for parties of all sizes. I ordered the Pro Skirt, a sweet but smokey mezcal cocktail that has a kick! It was pretty strong (which is a good thing) so I recommend pacing yourself if you're a lightweight lol I definitely see myself coming back for date night or a quick HH with friends! read more

We popped in to support a friend whom was playing live... Shout Out to my boy Lex!!! We decided to grab a table and a bite to eat. Wings, pizza, and the Shrimp martini were all Delish and plenty to share. Both the wings and the pizza were finger licking good... literally! So much so, that wings are not picture... Well, because we dug in too fast. (Lol... Don't judge) The shrimp had a good amount of spice/heat and were dressed around a martini glass of guacamole, which was equally as tasty. Overall nice spot, great food, of course an amazing band (wink), and good service. I can see how it can get quite packed but they seem to manage crowd flow well. We love this place! There is no homophobia here. This posting is in response to some negative comments that were left recently. My part and I have known the owners for many years. My partner of 21 years and I are a gay couple! I have hosted 8 private parties here w/in the last 4 years with a very mixed crowd and we have never, I repeat never had any hint of homophobic rhetoric against us ever. I stand up for these owners and what they are doing for this community. I was living on W. 83rd St. when they opened 22 years ago and have been partying at Prohibition ever since.... they are a strong hold in the neighborhood and they welcome diversity. This restaurant is absolutely wonderful! The food was very flavorful and delicious! The drinks were always very nice! They have a nice selection of specialty cocktails. The Alaskan Halibut was to DIE FOR! It was so juicy and flavorful and the yellow tomato jalapeño sauce complimented it perfectly. The Salmon had a nice crisp to it and was also delicious. The vibe in the speakeasy bar is fantastic and I cannot say enough positive things about the wonderful service received from the staff. The food here was excellent. The bacon appetizer was better than most of the top steakhouses across Manhattan. Burger was delicious as well. Both were perfectly cooked with incredible flavor. In terms of drinks, the frozen cosmo was perfectly made -- not too sweet, not too strong -- I loved it. Worth the brain freeze from chugging these back! My husband & I visited 4/6/23. We had resv@8pm which we made prior to arriving in NYC. We received a text ensuring our attendance. We arrived at 7:55. We ordered drinks & dinner. The booth seating where we were seated isn't ideal & has 1 guest with their back completely to the stage. After we finished dinner I asked if I could move over to one of the unoccupied tables beside ours so that I could sit next to my husband but also enjoy a view of the live music. I was told that it was ok but they emphasized that when the next guests arrived (the tables on both sides were resv) I would need to move back over. Absolutely. Completely understandable. None of the "resv" parties for said tables ever showed. Then after ordering multiple cocktails we were told we needed to give up our table. Keep in mind, tables closer to the stage had been occupied by a group of younger guys only drinking a few beers. We had ordered expensive meals & cocktails. It was bizarre to say the least. Horrible customer service. Way too many places to choose from in NYC. Never again. Unless you are a regular or groupie of the OVERRATED band. read more

The open mic on Monday's is fab! The quality is variable but even when you're cringing Goldie someone you sort of secretly respect their gumption too. I'm going to go every couple months for sure. It was a lot of fun! However. The food basically blows. I'd rec dinner somewhere else then going here for a couple of beers (my cocktails were not the best) and some live music. Food wise we got the vegetable quesadilla, guacamole and chips and I forgot what else. Oh yeah sliders. Dry chicken sliders. I ate the fries but only had one bit of one of the sandwiches. The staff were quite good and were quick to bring requested items. however I'd pass on the food unless you're using it to sop up etoh and go for the music and standard drinks. Had heard a lot about this place and it's live music. Decided to pay it a visit for my post bday celebrations with a few friends. It was a bit too dark and a bit too loud for my taste but then I can blame my 'occasional old soul' for it. Generally the crowd around looked happy, music band was great and servers were attentive. Go there if you want to dance to good music, fun atmosphere and casual ambience. Dont expect stellar cocktails or food other than American bar food. Having said that I will definitely visit this place again when I'm in mood for some real fun. read more

Not a bad bar on the UWS. Been here a few times. Normally a pretty laid back and chill vibe during the day. Outdoor seating in the front to have a few drinks or bite to eat. Decent sliders. Live music nightly with no cover. Kind of a bar / lounge mashup for the decor. Happy hour is not the greatest but you can get some nice frozen drinks for $5 a pop. Good on a hot lazy day. Beers on tap and in bottles are nothing to write home about. Like I said, not a bad bar, but nothing to really go out of the way for. We were looking for a place with live music and food, and were able to get a reservation same day, which was really nice! Service was incredible. Two people were continuously checking on us, one support staff member kept our water glasses filled and plates pre-bussed, and I could see the watchful eyes of a person who was possibly the manager making sure all was ok. Their food suggestions were greatly appreciated. Our party of four tried several items and shared around. The risotto had a rich flavor of truffle oil. Beautiful cocktail glasses and fresh garnishes made for festive drinks. We had a table right by the stage, but were still able to converse easily. That's a remarkable feat! read more

I've been here twice and both experiences have been absolutely wonderful! I happened to go on a Monday night both times, meaning that I've had the honor of witnessing two very entertaining Open Mic Nights. Though I haven't had the opportunity to hear the actual established bands that play here, New York happens to be rife with aspiring singers/songwriters/karaoke enthusiasts, so the night did not lack good tunes. And while the singers vary, there's always a house band there anyway, which is quite good (I'm no expert in these music logistics, so don't take my word for that last part about the band - it's just been my experience) . One con: It is LOOOOUUUDDD (yes, the dreaded internet hyperbole). If you sit in the main area by the band, it's virtually impossible to even hear yourself think. That said, there's a fairly spacious back room that's significantly quieter. There is a bar back there, but to my knowledge it's rarely open. Thankfully there's table service, and quite good service at that. The first time I sat in the back room here, the staff rarely came back to check on us, but this time we had a very attentive waitress. So A+ on the service. Drinks I can speak to: -The Bootlegger: Bulleit bourbon, jalapeno infused maple syrup, cherry liqueur, fresh lemon juice, bitters -Ginger Whiskey Smash: Bulleit bourbon, canton ginger liqueur, muddled lemon & sugar, rocks -Miller's Crossing: Miller's gin, fresh muddled basil, st germain, pama pomegranate liqueur, fresh lemon juice I'd say my favorite of these was the Ginger Whiskey Smash. I'm always intrigued by the Bootlegger given my affinity for spicy cocktails, but I think I've come to the conclusion that jalapeno-infused anything is best paired with gin and tequila. Doesn't work for me with whiskey. Jalapeno-infused maple syrup, though, gotta get that next time I make pancakes. If you like gin, go for Miller's Crossing. Very delicious and refreshing, as gin drinks should be. And while these cocktails are creative and unique, I don't think they're worth $14. That's pretty steep. Overall, solid 4 stars. I never understand why people (at least the people I know) don't care much for this bar. Their loss - more music and drinks for me! read more
