This place sucks. I would avoid this place at all costs. My friend and I stayed at The Ben a while back. We were about to get food upstairs but it started pouring like crazy so we went downstairs to eat here. There was barely anyone in the restaurant and we were seated right away. The managers were standing near us and the hostess was there but no one ever came to give us water or even a menu. So we walked out after 15 minutes. I was highly disappointed at the lack of service. I am not sure if it's because we looked young or what but they should have treated us as any other guest, especially since we were staying there. Then Sunday, Elizabetta's wait was two hours and it was starting to rain so I suggested we go here again since it was close. I thought, perhaps the first time wasn't a usual thing. Again, it took forever to get waited on once seated. Our drinks came after the food and another waiter picked up on the fact that it was taking forever for our drinks. We ordered waffles and I ordered the breakfast. The waffles were supposed to come with seasonal fruit and whipped cream. It came with one strawberry cut in four! Haha and sprinkled sugar. $16 for that! Never again. The breakfast plate was good but the sausage links were greasy. We ordered another round of drinks and that also took forever. At that point we were already done with the food. They only have two desserts and they sounded basic so we didn't get it. Also, the vents were leaking so my friend was getting wet as we were eating and we had to move the tables. You guys could have sat us away from the vents. There was enough water on the floor to cause someone to fall too. Highly do NOT recommend. For this price and lack of service, go elsewhere!!! read more

Had the cucumber martini to start at the bar. I'm not generally a martini person however this drink was the most delicious, refreshing alcoholic beverage I have ever had. We didn't have a reservation on a busy weekend night, however the hostesses were gracious and had us seated in no time. Our waiter was extremely personable and welcoming and the food came out as expected. We started with the wings which were pretty good, but probably not something I would order again. For entree, we shared the snapper and lobster and short rib cavatelli dish. I didn't see much short rib in the dish, but the chunks of lobster were impressive. For a pasta dish, it was amazingly light yet filling. The snapper was perfection. Well , I expected Al lot more from this trendy hotel restaurant . We tried to go to rooftop , but the music was sooo loud ( Mothers Day). Then we went to go to Proper Grit and the hostess said the outside was closed .... Too hot??? Hmmmm. Went out anyway, and it was lovely and windy. I ordered Fish Sandwich .... First, I loved the hotel & the restaurant is masculine & hip. No problems with our reservation except we'd asked for outdoor seating (one member of the family is terrified of Covid), & the large outdoor table was occupied, but they sat us right inside the double doors leading outside, & they were wide open, so our guest was fine with it. I read a few reviews about service being a bit slow, but today is Easter & I enjoyed not being rushed. We had time to sit as a family & talk without yelling across the table because it seemed most of the patrons were hotel guests & not loud. Honestly, every place I've been downtown is too loud, so again, this was delightful. The food was very, very good, cooked exactly as asked. Yes, my Pioneer breakfast was $17, but hotel restaurants are notorious for being overpriced. I, me, the girl raised going to private school, summer house in the Hamptons growing up, I felt at home at Proper Grit. I called and left 2 messages with my number. Went for a birthday celebration it was so terrible. Party of 9, no water, cold food for 3, no drink refills manager did nothing just kept smiling our bill was $500. I do not appreciate the server dissapering 30 minutes at a time. We asked and needed so much assistance!!!! This is my 4th time here within a month. I am a frequent visitor and I try my best to honest and give reviews unfortunately I would not ever recommend this place with the terrible experience was all had. The menu is great but quality of food is average at best. They have a yelp free appetizer coupon that they honor for their brunch and other meals. Service is average as well and mildly personable. If you're not staying at the hotel they charge $20 for valet. This is something they need to resolve for locals and patrons that want to attend their restaurants. Not memorable enough for a return visit, however is dog friendly and encouraged. They just miss on a few things here with the food output, limited service and steep parking charge. read more

Stayed at the The Ben hotel last month and dined at Proper Grit for breakfast and dinner. I would say this place has potential but is lacking in certain areas. Therefore, I would give it more like 3 1/2 stars. Breakfast- Fantastic! Our breakfast was included with our room which was an amazing deal. If we had to pay separately, I wouldn't have mind because I enjoyed the food. Service was also great. I had the french toast which was so good I got it two days in a row. My husband had The Ben breakfast and enjoyed it. The next morning he got the acai breakfast bowl. Unfortunately, the yogurt/puree was still basically frozen and ice cold which made it unenjoyable. Dinner- Service was great! Drinks were delicious. We got the pork belly appetizer which was delicious and flavorful. Fries were good, a tad on the salty side. Unfortunately, our steaks were both way undercooked. My medium was more medium-rare, and my husband's medium-rare was really rare. He normally doesn't mind eating it rare either, but it also had no flavor or seasoning to it either so he had to send it back. Other than the actual steaks, the meal was enjoyable. Dessert was good too. Cleanliness- there were always crumbs on my chair and at my feet which made me question the cleanliness of everything else. Also the ceramic mugs that they use for breakfast, you could see residual lip stains from previous use which grossed me out as well. Decor- Beautiful decor. When we got there, the hostess said that the restaurant was booked, so we had to wait for our table and we would be the next one seated. After they sat two people I asked when we would be seated. She then showed me post it notes of all the other people that needed to be seated.. what was the point of the reservation? Finally at 8:20 after looking at 3 empty tables for 20min we had to speak with the manager to finally get a table. Their apology was in the form of the manager taking our order and filling our water glass, we expected a little more after such a huge mess up. The food- For a very pricy place you expect a certain level of food. They did not deliver. I ordered medium rare, the steak was over cooked. They taste was just ok. Def didn't wow. The scallops were very average and missing the bacon infused taste that they said there was in the menu. Brussel spouts were too dry and had too many shavings and not enough sprout if you know what I mean. The potatoes gratin tasted good but it's though to mess up potatoes and cheese. We spoke with the two couples next to us who had different dishes and they were also unimpressed... hotel is super cool though.. so I'll be back for a drink and the view that's about it. read more

I just want to preface that I never write bad reviews unless they are warranted and absolutely necessary. we ate here on Saturday for lunch. I am gluten free (not because it's cool but because I get incredibly sick when I consume it). when ordered I told the waiter I was GF and asked if the hummus comes with GF bread. he didn't know and had to go ask the chef and sad yes. we got a new waiter (gorkem who I could give 10 stars too). he brought the hummus over and said "sourdough" which made my ears perk up. I asked if it was GF bread and he said yes, so I trusted him. we also got the kale Cesear and my bf got the feta salad. later that evening i started feeling ill. it went downhill from there. I had my boyfriend call the next day to ask some ingredients of what we ate. the hostess said she can't give any information because she didn't know and took his number down and said the manager would call back. hours went by and no call back. he called again and there was no answer. the next day came. I called 3 more times and the hostess said she could take my name and number and the manager would call back. I sent them an Instagram message and nothing. 3 days I was incredibly sick and I couldn't even get someone to call me back so I could rule out if it was a reaction to something I ate such as gluten or actual food poisoning. my boyfriend started feeling ill 2 days later and the only common denominator was the hummus, but we have no clue because we didn't get a call back. I have yet to hear back from them and it's a shame because we enjoyed the food. I dislike that I have to write a bad review in hopes I get their attention. read more

The bourbon bottle of "Pappy Van Winkle 23," one of the biggest swindles in the bar biz, at $320 a shot, should have been my context clue. I ordered a Michter's US-1, which isn't particularly allocated in Florida. Usually runs $12-$18 a shot in most places. $57 here. Their menu bites. I did enjoy some of their whiskey, pre COVID-19. First experience here with my fiancé. Overall nice atmosphere and amazing service for the most part. We waited quite a while for our food considering they didn't seem that busy. We ordered the filet and the lobster rock shrimp carbonara. Carbonara was extremely watery, lacked flavor and had hardly any protein considering the price. The filet was actually very good but when my dish arrived the potato was literally fresh out of the fridge and ice cold. Had to wait almost 15 minutes just for them to bring out a potato that was hot and still just seemed so pre-made and not fresh. Disappointed considering over a $300 bill. We did not complain and paid or our bill , but surprised they didn't offer for a complimentary beverage or something. When you're paying top dollar you should expect more from a quality restaurant. Went for my birthday but was very disappointed. The waitress hesitated to even serve our table. Then came over and didn't offer us an option for tap water. Instead gave us Fiji water for $8. We then ordered the short rib mac which online shows elbow but it came out as orechette which was not announced and changed the entire flavor. Also, my wife ordered a spicy margarita and it had the jalapeño seeds in there it was so spicy you couldn't even drink it. Plus it was $22 to add insult to injury. Overall really not great. If you can overlook the Mis-spelled Menu ('Main' Lobster, 'Waygu' Beef, Shrimp(s)...??), the food is good and the service is good. I enjoyed my Kale Salad and my Cast Iron Salmon. There wasn't a Dessert (or Desert) Menu... so I passed on both. (Sigh) read more

I did have an earlier review but I was reviewing Spruzzo with proper grit as well so I'm taking this back and giving proper grit the praise that it deserves without talking about the hostess at Spruzzo. The OJ tasted store bought, the coffee tasted burnt, and our three entrees (way overpriced) were cold and disgusting. We only had a few bites and gave up, and left. I had two issues with the restaurant or I would have given them 5 stars. The first was a back of house issue. My guest requested a wine on the menu offered by the glass. they were out.. it happens no issue. Then I ordered the appetizer Hanging bacon with cornbread to accompany an old fashion I had ordered. The waiter was unaware they were out of the hanging bacon while delivering my cocktail. So I had ordered a pairing with one part unavailable. Finally we ordered a desert, Bananas Foster , They were out of it. I do not understand how they could be out of so many items during season. My second issue is they do not validate parking. This place is beautiful. I'd expect nothing less from a marriot autograph collection property but the certainty managed to capture the essence of Palm Beach. The food is EXCELLENT. Had the tartar and a scallop dish. Both were exceptional in flavor and freshness. Shared a few salads that were also very very good.
