If you've ever been to the Bronx Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo will only disappoint. We basically covered everything within an hour, and the only cool thing we saw were the seals. Their exhibit is the central point for all of the exhibits. Many of the exhibits only helped me see how sad the living conditions were for the animals (monkeys without sufficient roaming space, a massive cow who's entire body just fit the wooden area that was carved out for him, etc. Admissions was $8 for adults, but even if you paid me to return, I wouldn't. read more

Sea lions were amazing. Peacocks strolled around, and exhibits were kid friendly. Lots of fascinating sculptures, cool, plant, flower and tree lined pathways with the most natural-looking zoo environments I have ever seen. Clean and pleasant--not a smelly zoo at all. read more

Such a great alternative to Central Park or Bronx Zoo's! It's small so it won't take all day and is way less expensive, with a nice mix of animals that they clearly take very good care of. The red panda is great as are the prairie dogs, which kids can take a closer look at through little plastic bubbles within the ground! They have a really great sea lion pool with one older and one younger, and there are 3 times a day where you can catch a feeding and watch them do tricks. My absolute favorite is the barnyard animal area in the back where you can pet and feed so many of them! Pigs, cows, a horse, goats, sheep and even alpacas. I feel like such a kid there! TIP: try the Carousel which is very cool, right outside the zoo - also great for kids and at $3 a ride, why not? read more

Prospect park Zoo was a really fun experience. The best attraction I felt was the monkey house. They have a really impressive collection of all types of monkeys. Everything from small spazzy ones who run around chasing each other to big baboons sitting around amongst the rocks. The monkeys were cute and funny. Another fun thing is to feed the turtles and birds in the little pond. you can pay 50 cents to buy some feed from the vending machine and toss it in the pond. My girlfriend and I played a little game trying to feed the slow turtles before the bigger, faster birds would come and steal it!! I have to take one star off for the size of the place which is on the smaller side. Also related to the size they took out the kangaroos which I was really looking forward to. Highly recommended, and free on a corporate weekend or only around 8 bucks otherwise. read more

We had such a fun day at the zoo. We went on a Friday afternoon in the summer, and the zoo was nearly empty aside from a few summer camp groups. When compared to all the other NYC zoos and gardens, you cannot beat the $8 entrance fee. Also, unlike the Bronx zoo, none of the exhibits cost extra... everything is up for grabs once you enter. The grounds are very clean and despite some reviewers saying its confusing, we thought it was very easy to follow. There are a ton of signs and just use the map you get when purchasing a ticket. The two downsides were that the zoo is very small. We took our time and saw everything in under an hour. We also went specifically to see the new baby otters, which were missing from their exhibit. We asked some zoo employees where the otters were, and when they'd be returning, and no one seemed to know. read more

Nice zoo if you wanna spend the day out in Brooklyn. The zoo is a decent size and you can cover all the exhibits. Cover fee is only 8 dollars for adults. What I saw interesting was that some of the peacocks were out roaming on the grass area! You don't see that everyday! My boyfriend brought me here and we had an amazing time discovering all the exhibits available to us during COVID-19..... we had a fantastic time and got to walk amongst peacocks, an assortment of wild birds .... ans they have a beautiful petting zoo for children(and adults, if you are like us and love animals too). Nice zoo right across from the botanical garden. They have a nice collection and all the animals seem cared for and healthy. The animal habitats were clean and setup very well. The zoo is about 2x the size of the Central Park zoo. Be prepared though on nice weekends it will be crowded. read more

Cute lil zoo. Perfect to pass by an afternoon. The Zoo is small and very clean. I've been a few times and it never seems that busy...which is great you can actually see things. It is perfect for smaller kids as there aren't tons of exciting animals. Lots of Monkeys and the barn area is cute. My son loved milking their wooden cows! And watching the seals being fed is fun. This is a small zoo with a focus on education and wildlife preservation. They're part of a program to breed rare and endangered amphibians to (hopefully) reintroduce into habitats. They only keep animals in spaces that are appropriate for their size and range- though the red panda seemed a little borderline. They also have a focus on keeping the animals physically and mentally stimulated. It's a good one. read more

For just $8, you can easily get a couple of hours worth of entertainment whether you're lugging some little ones along or just having an educational adult day. It's a small zoo, which I liked because it wasn't overwhelming at all, and I felt like I could catch every exhibit in one visit if I wanted to. Like most people, my favorite was the sea lion feeding, which in the summer seemed to happen regularly throughout the day. The petting zoo area is always a hit as well, of course, as it's always fun to feel those funny furry sheep and goat lips as they gobble up the pellets that you can buy from vending machines. 2 stars as far as a "zoo" goes but 4 stars if you know what the Prospect Park Zoo is before you go. It's a tiny zoo next to (I guess technically "in") Prospect Park that's geared mostly toward kids and the stroller crowd. There are very few big animals here, mostly little amphibians, some smaller monkeys, some meercats, and a small petting zoo. Many of the animals are indoors but they do have some outdoors as well. This includes a dingo, supposedly a walibee (though I spent awhile looking for it without a glance), a couple sea lions, a few prairie dogs, and the real star of the whole zoo, the Baboon exhibit. The Baboons for me was worth the price of admission ($8), they have the biggest encloser and are the most interesting animals to watch. read more

I've lived on Staten Island my entire life and never made it to this zoo. I have to say it was great! Reminded me of Central Park Zoo when I was a child. We watched the Sea Lions get fed and the zookeepers put on a little show (actually training process). Lots to see. Not as large as Bronx Zoo but worth a visit. read more

I only give this zoo four stars because of the lack of animals... I bought my sister and brother here one day and they asked me where were the other animals hiding; I told them at the Bronx zoo I guess... The staff is friendly and so are most of the patrons. Watch out for the Jews that tend to crowd the place with their strollers and who do not know how to use the words "excuse me" and "sorry"... SMDH guess not all people have manners... My 4-yr-old niece is a FAN. We visited on a Saturday. Crazy crowds-none (it wasn't full swing summer). Sea lion feeding - check. Amusing baboon family - check. Random tiny poisonous frogs - check. Not so much the discovery center - it was a little bland. Missed the Meet the Animal - arrive 15 minutes early it's very popular! The little prairie dogs have a great exhibit that requires crawling up a tunnel to pop your head into a little viewing bubble for some friendly moments with the dogs! My niece was apprehensive but totally into it afterwards. Another plus was the well kept barn and animal feeding area. Lots of cuddly sheep and a big ol' Bertha cow. Lots of food dispensers and nifty little sink plus at least 6 hand sani stations. Overall I loved it and will return. Who woulda thunk it?! read more

While the zoo is fairly small it's packed full of animals and well maintained. We watched the sea lion show which was good, didn't check out any of the other demos. The inside areas are nice and air conditioned and a lot of the exhibits have quite a few perky animals. It's close to the subway and inexpensive, it's a great way to spend a couple of hours. read more

i know so many locals who dont even know theres a zoo in brooklyn, but its small and wonderful and a great way to spend an afternoon. unlike the bronx zoo you can see everything in a couple hours or so, and its never crowded with tourists like the central park zoo. theres a great selection of cute critters, be they owls, porcupines, dingoes, wild cats of various types and baboons, farm animals and a red panda to name a few. some come and go (i miss the anteater and prairie dogs) so come back again to see whats new. great for kids but equally fun for the adults (and adult kids) too. id say a good date spot too. take a walk in prospect park while youre there. some country in the city. read more

A small fun zoo if you are looking for something cheap to do in Brooklyn. Close to the park, museum and library as well.

We stumbled across the zoo after wandering the park on a cold day and were absolutely delighted with it! It's an impressive enclave in the city with a wide range of friendly animals. I loved hand feeding the ducks and barn animals (the cows in particular were very cute) and adored watching the attention loving seals at feeding time. Well worth the $8 adult entry fee and would happily go back! read more

Great little zoo in Brooklyn. Loved the wallabies, the goats, turkeys, baby calf, monkeys, and sea lions. We were able to quickly go through, feed animals, and admire others. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday after brunch. read more

The baboon area is my favorite part at this tiny zoo, I sit there for hours observing this family of baboons play, interact, fight, breastfeed and meticulously pick fleas off each others furs. read more

There are not many signs for navigation for newcomers. Hard to navigate. Small selection of animals. A nice outing for an afternoon with small kids. The sea lions are THE best! And, a few of the animals you can see while inside - the AC helps on hot, summer days. Lots of seating options. Difficult to find exactly where the zoo is if you're coming from any other area in Prospect Park for the first time. But, gets 4 stars b/c its easy to get to and they have a diverse selection of animals. read more

Unfortunately the don't have Large animals like Lions or Giraffes. I was very disappointed in the amount of animal. Which were very little, compared to the Bronx zoo. I expected a bit more. The Cafe was tiny. I would not refer this Zoo to anyone. I like to be able to see more thing's Big from the wild and this is what the lacked. Lion's, Hippos, and things of that nature. read more

This place brings back so much childhood memories. Came here for a school trip. I remember putting in a quarter and feeding the animals with pellets. It was fun getting up close to them. They also have a carousel here I believe, another plus. read more

Cute little zoo - a great place to take kids. They have a big interactive learning and discover area and petting area. It's not very big so you and your family can get through the zoo in about 2-3 hours. Although they don't have that many different animals on display, make sure you see the sea lions, meerkats, red pandas, and monkeys. read more

Not a huge amount of animals, and they don't have some that you may expect to see like big cats, bears, etc. They have a petting / feeding area with farm animals, which is nice. It's a nice local zoo with interesting exhibits, but not really worth the price...especially considering how the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is right next door and is much bigger and much cheaper. I'd rather go to the Bronx Zoo on a day that it's free. The petting zoo was really adorable though. But overall, a little too small for me. read more

Not quite as big as Bronx Zoo but it's good for a 2 hour excursion with your little one. Parking can be a hit and miss but I haven't had too much problems in the 10 or so times I went here. Definitely a good value if you get the WCS membership. Go out and support your zoos and aquariums! :) read more
