Here 2 years ago. Everything fine. Revisited May 28 and 29 2026. Not the same. New owners. Extended our stay from the 28th to include the 29. Left for the day and came back to a different code to get in.1st change. No service on room. Not even trash taken out. 2nd change. No front office personnel. Just a phone no dial direct to a call center. Call center mentioned that check out was at three. We had the room for 2 days. Never before was expected to check out in middle of a stay. 2 individuals on site Tall guy with glasses brandishing a 6 ft staff behind counter. Thought he was a homeless guy but he had access to room behind counter and was presenting himself as some sort of employee. Asked if he was or ever had been an employee and he said no. Then said he was some sort of consultant and he lived there. Inquired if place had new management and he laughed and rolled his eyes. Asked and complained about lack of service and he directed me to above mentioned phone. 2nd individual told me directly they do not service rooms anymore until one has been there 4 days, We should have left and just re booked to get a new room. Not an issue if you stay only one day. Whatever these guys were they were not helpful at all. Then when we finally left I called to express my dismay at the service quality and got a message to call back during normal business hrs. No permits or licenses on lobby wall so had to research who the new owners were. This was not anywhere even close to what I was expecting. Heaven help you if you have a room issue anytime outside of call center hrs. And if you book for more than one day you will have to empty your garbage cans if full and if you need any supplies you are expected to find it in the lobby and restock yourself. On our way out of Escalante it was past nine so we pulled in to make that call. The Big guy with his club was outside and when he noticed me on the phone he came in with his club and stood about three feet from me so he could listen in to the phone call. For the record the people on the other end were dismissive and could not have cared less. End of story. read more

Clean. Fresh towels, good water pressure, no bugs. Good beds. Bedding smells clean and fresh. Very nice people own and run it. Coffee in lobby. It's a vintage inn but has everything you want and need. I like that they provide old towel remnants to each room in case you need to clean your shoes or dry out your coolers. They told us they don't advertise so we wanted to get the word out. They post the rate right on the door. Very honest people. read more

So, there aren't too many places to stay at if you are in Escalante and far away from a city. There are a couple of high-end looking places here, but their price is high. Propector Inn is of decent value and the rooms are clean. It is a no-frills kind of place and there's not much to complain about. But be aware that their ac unit is loud...really loud. read more

This hotel is for if you only need a room. The mattresses are downright historic, with maybe still having squeaky springs! The front desk service is with a smile, but not very anticipatory. Batteries in the TV remote were dead. Calling the front desk to get the WiFi code with the room landline was near impossible, and I was told they were busy, I might want to come down and get them myself. On the plus side: 1) Solid concrete block construction with concrete decks and steps. 2) The carpet in our room is not too old and was clean. So, if all you're looking for is a room, there are rooms here. read more

One of the few options open during the off season in Escalante. This is a very basic and very clean motel. There are no frills but it's doable. It's great for someone like me who spends their days outside getting dirty and just needs a place to crash. The price is very reasonable. They have pet friendly rooms with a very reasonable pet fee ($15 total per stay). Not many amenities but they do have free coffee in the morning. Little store if you forgot anything at home or want a souvenir. read more

We found this local motel after our Airbnb was unacceptable. We were lucky they had a room! The room was clean, the beds were comfortable & the shower provided great water pressure and hot water! Which were much needed after a long day of sightseeing. I also liked how they provided smaller towels to clean your gear, shoes, etc! For what this is, a motel in a small town in the desert, it is clean and tidy, exceptionally tidy and run by very nice people. We needed 3 rooms on the ground floor and easy cancellation options and we were accommodated. No early coffee (later around 7) so might ask for a coffee maker for your room. Great place and super clean. read more

We made it to Escalante at around 6:30pm on a Friday night on a holiday weekend. Had to wait in line behind two other people checking in, but their check in went quickly. My check in was easy and quick as well. They have old fashioned keys, not key cards. The room was dated but well kept and clean. The beds are on the firmer side, but after a long, hot day of hiking I slept just fine. There was a large group that showed up the next day/night that we were worried were going to keep us awake all night but by the time we went to bed you couldn't hear them at all! Overall a great stay in Escalante! Definitely would stay here again! read more

I stayed here for three nights in June. I was treated really nicely. The person behind the counter was super friendly and nice the whole time I was there. Because I do night photography and get in late and sleep late, she assigned a good, quiet room in the corner upstairs, and it was good and dark and nice, perfect for sleeping late. Everything was clean, and the room was comfortable and spacious. Nearby are a number of places to eat or shop, including Escalante Outfitters, which has good food. This is centrally located, very close to many places, including Staircase-Escalante, about maybe 30 minutes away from Devil's Garden, and about one hour from Bryce Canyon NP. I should mention that their wifi was good and reliable all three days I stayed there. read more

I was there for an off road trail riding trip. You have to remember this is about a one hotel but you cannot give it that low as the area does not have many amenities and the price was real inexpensive. Note, the bed and bathroom was old and not super comfortable but better than a tent. Basically the only place to stay and very nice people. I would stay there again as the ride was fun and you could ride directly from the hotel. read more

The Prospector Inn is a dated but comfortable place of lodging. Located in Escalante, just a minute away are a few shops, Escalante Outfitters, and Circle D Eatery. I had a comfortable night, the heater/air worked fine on a chilly night. Always had hot water during showers and it was fine. I had nothing to complain about, the rooms were dated but clean, and slept fine. Good place to rest if on the road and watching your budget for a quick night's rest. read more

Passing through Utah need a place to lay your head. Not a bad place to crash walking distance to everything. Old beds not very comfy at all but who cares after hiking all day. Old rooms very old bedspreads Ick! Thin covers I had to crank the heat to warm up but the heater worked great. Speaking of heat the table was covering the vent to the heater so I had to rearrange the room before I could rest. They had a microwave and fridge in the room so that was nice. Shower had hot water a bonus for some small towns. The hotel was ok and the service was good. There are not many options in this town at off season this did the job well. read more

This place is very well kept place to stay, very nice people and extremely accommodating. As a driver who delivers batteries once a week to Utah valley this place is the motel to be at! Prices are reasonable and Front desk always knows who I am and where I like to stay since I drive a big truck to travel in. Restaurants nearby are pretty good, the subway has great customer service. This is my favorite hotel when I come to Grand Staircase-Escalante to photograph. The rooms are basic but clean the day rates are reasonable. It's the only hotel I've ever stayed at in the tiny town of Escalante. Candy, the desk person, is terrific she really cares and will do anything for you. The hotel is understaffed but Candy does her best to make up for the lack of staff. I hope the hotel owners appreciate their employee. I believe the hotel is family owned. Across the street is one of best restaurants in town The Circle D Restaurant which has terrific breakfast, club sandwiches for lunch and a first rate dinner menu. Attached to the Prospector Inn Motel is a small restaurant called "Boots Cafe." A future review is coming on the hotel's cafe. The entrance to Hole In The Wall Road, the main road that leads to the major hiking trails, is about 3 miles from the hotel making it an excellent staging point for my photogrsphic needs and many hikers, sightseers. I will return to this hotel. read more

Overpriced for what they offer . Very very very basic conditions. I know there are not too many choices in Escalante , but the room is not worth it $79 plus tax. If you can afford a three star hotel instead, it is worth the extra money and effort to get there in my opinion. read more

Pros: Room seems clean, plumbing works well, friendly staff person. Cons: Wifi (Internet) periodically cuts out throughout the building, for up to 30 minutes at a time. Price was higher ($61, including tax) than the nicer hotel I stayed at in Torrey. Decor is basic, windows are small. read more

I booked a room here using their website, and after I hit submit payment, a message popped up saying the payment had not gone through and that I would need to try again. I wondered if something was wrong with my debit card, so I entered a different card's information and tried processing the payment again. This time it said it worked and sent me a confirmation email for my stay. However, I soon saw two charges: one on my debit card and one on the other card. I called Prospector to explain the glitch, and they said they would cancel one of the charges immediately. However, they did not. I have called them repeatedly to explain what happened and asked for my money back, but each time I call they claim there is only one charge and say I should call back when someone else is at the desk (but no one who knows anything ever answers). Still no sign of getting my money back, and when I filed a reverse charge with my bank, the inn disputed it and I have been in a long battle of paperwork just to get the money back from their website malfunctioning and their service staff being incompetent. In addition, when I actually stayed at the inn, I waited almost 45 minutes to check in, because (despite arriving at the set check-in time), no one was at the desk. Many guests and I were all waiting outside in the heat until one desk worker finally arrived. He showed no haste in checking in the long line of guests waiting for their rooms (nor did he wear a mask despite being face to face with customers in a global pandemic). The inn was in generally poor condition, but this was not a deal breaker as I knew it was one of the lower rates in the area, so I was not expecting high quality. However, I was NOT expecting to pay double for a crappy room and then have to fight with them through paperwork for months just to get my money back, which has still never happened. Do yourself a favor and NEVER STAY HERE. read more

Perfect for what this is: a very reasonable stop in the middle of some incredible scenery. Easy checkin, comfortable (if a bit dated) rooms, and great service. We arrived late and walked across the parking lot for dinner and some excellent local insights. Next morning we were on our way. No problems. Not a bad little mom and pop hotel. Could be cleaner - the floors are pretty awful. Heater took a long time to get the room warm but it was very cold outside. Beds were ok. Lady at the front desk was really nice. Priced pretty decent. About the only game in town. read more

Worst motel ever! I stay in a lot of places for my job so I have a lot to compare to. The cleaning crew never changed the sheets. I know this because they had the same stains on them for 3 nights straight. I killed about 5 months the first night. My fiancé called the front desk at 5:30am and asked to be transferred to my room to speak to me (weak cell service here) and the front desk lady got mad at my fiancé for calling so early.....no joke. read more

I spent 6 nights at the Prospector Inn during October, 2019. The room was very comfortable with 2 beds, a refrigerator and microwave. Brewed coffee is provided in the lobby. One can walk to restaurants, and it's close to a grocery store/market. The managers are great. They are friendly, willing to help you with directions and area information, and responsive to room problems (I didn't have any but observed this for someone else). The room is basic but lotion and shampoo/conditioner are provided. It's very comfortable and quiet. I highly recommend a stay. read more

Will NOT recommend to anyone. Weak wifi signal on and off all the time jus as other mentioned. Air conditioner is noisy. If air conditioner is not on, an alarm at room kept beeping. So either endure the noisy air condition er or continues beeping for the whole night. Staff is not really helpful. And it is pricey ($75) at the low season. So if you expect a nice sleep after days hiking, this is NOT the best place to stay. read more

I am in the middle of a three week, cross country, backroad pleasure trip. I'm staying two nights to give myself a break and this place couldn't be nicer. It's quiet and clean with great WIFI service and the owners are a pleasure to deal with. If I ever get back to Utah, this is where I'll stay! read more

I would have given them three stars due to it's okay but just needs a LOT of updating. Pretty sure nothing has been updated since 1995 or 96 when it was first built. Sheets were old and thin and limp, shower head was tiny and lime-caked. It was slightly over priced at $75 for 2 people. Beds were full size rather than queen. But the final straw that lowered them to two stars was the cold shower our second (last) day there. I expected an offer of partial refund or something but no. Just a very curt apology. I suppose cold motel showers happen occasionally - though this was my first and I'm a grandma - but I did expect they would be horrified and apologetic enough to offer us some money back. Nope. Like I said, just a curt apology. Bottom line, I actually would stay there again. At least it was clean. And there aren't a lot of options in that neck of the woods. read more

This was a jewel in the desert! Reasonably priced with spacious and comfortable and clean rooms. It is not a Marriott, but works just fine if you do not need fancy amenities. Right next to 2 gear stores with a restaurant next door. We would book here again in a minute!! read more

It is not fancy but the room was well-kept and the price ($66 plus tax) was fair. It's a reasonable place to stop if you are going from Bryce Canyon N.P. over toward the Capitol Reef region. They do not allow any pets in the rooms but were understanding about my need to take our dog out of the vehicle for a walk around the town. read more

Definitely avoid at all cost. Bathroom fan from adjoining room can be heard causing a sleepless night. Yes you are here to hike and drive which are hard to do after a sleepless night. If the noise isn't bad enough, the beds are torturous and amenities nil, including the WiFi which as others have said is in and out (read mostly out). This place in a word is TOXIC. read more
