There should be a zero star option. My kids were stranded on the side of the freeway in Milpitas. They'd changed their flat but the spare didn't have enough air. They called AAA and were on hold for 45 minutes. Another car also had a flat right beside them, when the driver finished helping my son asked if he could just fill their tire. He said "Nope, you're out of luck". What is this world coming to when you can let two college students stranded in the rain on the side of the road some free air! They'd been driving for 12 hours home for summer. When I called the owner, he said sorry we can't offer that service without a call we won't be reimbursed from AAA with out their separate call. I had an accident on the 880 and they were the company that responded to the call. The driver was extremely helpful during a very traumatic time. He gave me very good information which helped me make wiser decisions about where my vehicle ended up for insurance repairs. Thank you. The woman at the front desk was also helpful and polite. 4 HOUR WAIT FOR A TOW!!!! DO NOT use this copmany if you have a choice. I had to use them according to my AAA Emergency roadside assistance program as supposedly they were the only sub contracted company serving the area I was in (Fremont, CA). I am skeptical that AAA didn't have another sub that could get there earlier than 4 hours! The first driver from this company that came in 1.5 hours was very rude and simple said leave the keys in the car and i'll be back in an hour. 1 hour goes by and i call AAA. They said it would be another 1 hour! I stayed on the phone with AAA trying to figure out if this was a Prostar Issue or AAA issue. I believe it is both but I also believe Prostar is equally involved because of how they dispatch their own drivers. CHARGED ME $185 FOR DIAGNOSTIC + FIXING THE PROBLEM AND DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. TRIED TO CHARGE ME MORE TO CHECK THE PROBLEM AGAIN. I called AAA and got my car towed yesterday. The tow guy was a great help and tried everything he can to help us get the car started. But it wouldn't start; the tow guy told us it is the starter so we were towed to the shop. When we went to pick up the car the next day, today 02/08/13, we were told that the alarm was the thing that made the car not start and that they took off the kill switch and said it would work. We were charged $185 total for diagnostic and fixing the problem and when we went to drive the car, it wouldn't start again. We didn't even get out of their shop yet. They came by and said oh, it wasn't the alarm, its the starter that is the problem. I don't know what they were thinking but they should have listened to the tow guy and checked the starter. They told us, "oh, let us fix the car again and we'll charge you a good deal." Why would I pay more for what you should have found out especially when we paid you for diagnostic. This place is horrible. Trying to charge me more after already charging me $185 for "fixing" the problem. The tow guy is the only good thing about this shop who basically figured out what the initial problem is that the mechanics couldn't even figure out. They charged 94 bucks for diagnosis , then they called me it will cost $570. So I said I can't afford so they told me again only $ 300 something but no warranty at all. WTH !!!! My car started making a very loud noise, which scared the *&^%$# out of me. Pulled into a parking lot, called my husband, who said "call a tow truck, have them take it to the dealer." Called Pro-Star, the receptionist said 45 minutes but Robert was there in 20. Great guy, very patient with me, considering that I know next to nothing about cars (other than how to drive one) and could not even explain the problem coherently. Also very, very tactful not to comment on the fact that this middle-aged mom was wearing exercise tights and an old tank top, as I was en route to a barre class. Robert asked me to turn on the car and drive it toward the truck so he could hook it up. Listened for 5 seconds and said "Ma'am, you don't need a tow, this is a muffler issue. You can drive it right to the dealer. It will be loud but it's drive-able." How wonderful is that? I so appreciated his honesty in saving me some money (and yes, of course I tipped him well). So I can't comment on the quality of the tow service, but based on the CUSTOMER SERVICE attitude, quick response, and genuine helpfulness, I would definitely call Pro-Star again if I needed a tow. read more

So I leave the keys with him as he positions the truck to pick up my car. Get home in about an hour and about another hour after wondering where he was he calls me & says hes not coming . Im already an hour away and your barley telling me 2 hours later your not coming ?!? He said he left the keys under the mat . My thing is why didnt you call as soon as you knew I would of turned around and locked my doors . ProStar towing gives excellent customer service; let me tell you why.... My transmission gave out right after taking the Mission Blvd ramp south onto 880. The shoulder was rather narrow so I notified the AAA dispatcher that it was a dangerous location. I had three passengers in the car that I was driving to Mt. View to help a friend move. I expected a long wait, but they were there within 15 minutes to help us. Fortunately, they also do repair work on automobiles, so I asked him to tow us to his facility. The driver was very courteous and our safety was his primary concern. He gave us very specific and careful directions on how to vacate the vehicle and get in his truck. And only when our safety was assured did he proceed to get the SUV loaded for towing. The excellent customer service continued when we were dropped off at the repair facility. The receptionist was very professional and thorough. She offered us coffee and water while we waited for my friend to pick up my passengers. They provided me access to two (2) car rental companies and had the one that I selected pick me up from their location so that I could get to work. All in all, ProStar made a very bad experience as pleasant as possible. Update: I decided not to repair my auto at ProStar because the vehicle had 241,000 miles on it and it was not worth it to get if fixed. So, in the meantime I made a purchase of a new car and the dealer gave me a trade in value for the distressed car. So, I had it towed to the dealer. Again ProStar handled my situation with dignity and respect. The service manager did not try to pressure me into repairing the car and charged me a small, reasonable fee for inspecting my car. I would not hesitate to recommend this honest company either for towing or repair. The people there, from the tow truck drivers to the office receptionist and service manager are a class act! .....Thank you VERY much ProStart. read more

Horrible service! I was supposed to have a tow through AAA and they lied about showing up and then their dispatcher made up a story about what happened to cover herself! I called when they were to be there and was told the driver waited 5 mins and left. Too bad he didn't show up! She then told me I needed to call AAA so I went home and did just that! Can't thank Ryan enough for the AAA battery service from ProStar. We had been dealing with a new battery that kept dying. After repeated attempts at dealership to resolve the issue, they kept blaming a faulty battery. Called AAA and Ryan came to the rescue. He showed up and within minutes was able to diagnose and prove to the dealer mechanic in the most professional way that there was a drain on the battery not a defective battery. Miraculously, the dealer mechanic was suddenly able to find a battery drain. Ryan was the best - prompt, polite and knowledgeable. Great service and would use them again. read more

After 3 fail attempts to get someone come out on a Sunday evening to change my flat tire, Josh from Pro Star answered the call. He arrived in 1/2 of the time what my insurance quoted me. Josh was profession and courteous. Looking at the way he changed/loosen my rusty spare tire from the truck was an art. Despite we didn't have all of the tools he needed to take out the spare, he was able to use other creative ways to lower the chained spare. He refilled the air in our 21 year old spare and warned us to be careful. We were back on our way in no time. It was a bad day. He made it great. He was so professional and yet compassionate too. Installed a new battery and explained how a batter tender would help the life of my battery since I don't drive my car a lot. If I could give negative stars I would. I took my car when I had to have it towed because of a water pump breakdown. Ended up with $1000 in repairs in November 2012. This shop gave me a receipt with a 24 month/24,000 mile warranty on repair services and parts. In August this year, I noticed the coolant low light and topped it off. But it kept leaking. So called this shop for a check on 9/9/2013 and was told to bring in the car for a check on 9/10/2013 at 9.30am. I bring my car in and asked if they can check while waiting. They said it would be early afternoon before they can check. I said ok and walked to a nearby coffee shop. After 4 hrs which was early afternoon, I called them. They said they hadn't still checked on it. After another hour and half of waiting, and no call, I walked back to their shop. I noticed the car was still parked where I had left. Didn't seem like they had no intention of working on it. By this time I had to make a bunch of calls to arrange for my daughter to be picked up from school and without any idea of when I could get her from my friends since I had no clue when my car would be ready. The service manager Dave Sanchez walks around to the front of the shop and I ask him to give me my keys back so I could leave. At this point he says I could get the car checked. I was furious and asked him if he understands the reason people call and request scheduling a car check. As a manager he ought to be able to manage the schedule and give a reasonable time so people can plan alternates. I asked if he knows to respect people's/customers time. At that point he gives me a lame apology. I don't believe the shop has any intention of standing behind their warranty. I don't think the manager knows how to manage. Nor does he know what service means. Would never recommend this shop to even my enemies. And will write to BBB and AAA. read more

Stay away from their shop, very far away. My son called for a tow to get his Expedition towed to the dealer to get a blown out spark plug repaired. The truck driver convinced him that the Pro Star shop could fix it for less. My son agreed to that. At the shop, they did the repair and the engine ran but with a missfiring cylinder. The mechanic wanted more money to troubleshoot the miss but my son didn't have it so he took the car home. We later found that the Pro Star mechanic installed the wrong insert. This allowed the piston to crush the spark plug causing the missfire. The insert was also steel installed in an aluminum head. The Ford TSB specifies an aluminum insert to do the job properly. We had the dealer do the repair properly as we should have done in the first place. Pro Star refunded all of his money but couldn't refund the time wasted by bringing it in to that crappy shop in the first place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! AAA should not approve this place and it definitely doesn't deserve any stars. My 2010 jeep was towed here and after doing a supposed diagnostic, they said my engine was shot...on a four year old car, no way!! They had only done one test which was inconclusive and then said well you said it made a bad sound and that means the engine is probably done. After taking my jeep to a QUALIFIED mechanic, turns out it only needed a new water pump and thermostat NOT A NEW ENGINE!!!!! Stay away from this incompetent shop before you pay for something you never needed. read more

This is a review for the woman answering the phone on June 8th, 2016. I called and asked if they can tow a car in Fremont to an auto shop in Fremont. She said "yes absolutely, we can be there within an hour. Let me put you on hold for just a second". I had to hang up after 9 minutes. I called back much later, and told her I'm calling back...again I was told "just a second, I'll be right with you". I then held on for about 6 minutes before hanging up. My advice: if it will be more than a minute, either come back and let me know to keep holding, or just take my number and call me back. I won't be offended. At this point my only guess is that they have more business than they can handle. I'm sure the service is great if you can actually get someone to talk to you. read more

My teenage son had to go to Fremont on a Friday and his car overheated. He was towed to ProStar by AAA. The staff at ProStar couldn't have been nicer to him or to me. Kyle spent lots of time trying to identify the problem. If we lived in Fremont (or anywhere near) we would have left the car to be fixed because Kyle clearly understood the issues with our old car. However, we weren't able to leave the car. Kyle did everything possible to make sure the car would get home. Coolant tube melted because it was made of plastic and timing belt broke because it was over 50,000 miles. Dave at prostar gave me an honest estimate and had the car back to me in a week. I had to get my car fixed ASAP so it would pass a smog test. (First time it didn't pass I had code errors) I was able to bring my car in and they fixed it. if i could give them no stars i would. my boyfriend accidentally locked my keys in the trunk and called them to unlock my car for me. didn't have to wait long which was pretty cool, the guy that came was nice, he unlocked my car from the passenger side window and everything was great.... up until i got in my car to leave and hopped on the freeway, literally 5 minutes into driving my entire passenger side window COMPLETELY shatters and explodes in my face (i was the passenger my boyfriend was driving) and cut up my arms and legs. it was literally the first time i'm wearing contacts i'm lucky i didn't get any in my eyes. my car is brand new theres no reason what so ever that it would just randomly shatter. he HAD to have cracked my window from the bottom when he used his tools to unlock my car. my insurance agent called their company and told them the situation and asked for their insurance company and some asshole dave dixon completely refused to help us and hung up on us. Who the fuck does that? What kind of business are you running? Whether you want to help us or not it's called being professional. I work in customer service and I know all about annoying customers but I deserve to get helped considering how it was YOUR guy that did a shitty job.
