I'm the 5th 5-star out of 5 reviews. Sound a little suspicious? Just go. You'll be the 6th 5-star. Excellent water views, live music (on the weekend), the freaking Shrimp burger, cold beers from the cooler, and the Tuna burger (from a one-bite review, thanks to the wife hogging it) and the excellent laid back service. The onion rings were not as good as some had reported, but not bad, there's no A/C, so it can be a little warm in the summer, parking is atrocious and the place is kinda hard to find. Turn right just before the bridge over the ICW to Holden Beach. The sign says to turn in 200 ft which would put you on the bridge. We had to wait about 30 minutes on a summer Friday night, but with a cold beer, live music, awesome views and some dancing vacationers, the wait was just fine. Service was fine, seemed friendly. Food wise crab cakes were not good, over cooked, inside was brown with no flavor. Grouper sandwich and cucumber salad were good. Potato salad was bad. Outside area was nice with live music. Overall, not worth the hype and will not return. read more

One of my favorite places to eat fresh shrimp. Casual atmosphere. Often live music on the deck during the season. Lines can get long for a table and they don't take reservations but it's a great outdoor atmosphere for the wait. I usually order their steamed shrimp plate. My mother in law likes their shrimp burger. read more

The first time I reviewed ProCo was eight years ago in 2009. Pretty much everything in my original review still applies today. If you're in the area looking for a comfortable spot to enjoy a casual lunch or dinner, Provision Company is a worthwhile stop. The best part of ProCo is the spectacular view of the intracoastal waterway from just about anywhere in the restaurant. Regarding the menu, the standbys we go to again and again are the cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, wings, shrimp burger, cucumber salad, grilled grouper sandwich, steamed clams, and steamed shrimp. Since my last review, I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance, so dining at ProCo is more challenging these days. Steamed clams and steamed shrimp are no-brainers - they are naturally gluten-free foods - but what about other menu items? I've had good luck with the cucumber salad, and though I initially tried switching from the grouper sandwich to the grouper salad, I found I didn't enjoy the overabundance of romaine compared to the other ingredients. So now I order the grilled grouper sandwich with no bun. And what I get is a beautifully grilled piece of fish served with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. (This works for the cheeseburger too.) If I'm lucky enough to have GF buns at home, I will bring my own and create my own GF sandwich. The last time I had lunch at ProCo, I also brought some tasty local tartar sauce along as well as a bag of GF potato chips to complete the meal. Luckily, my favorite adult beverage at ProCo is also gluten free. The rum dum! Only $5 a pop, and these pretty blue drinks pack a wallop, especially the pineapple slice that's been soaked in rum. Provision Company is a gem. Quick service, delicious food, nice bar - but even better is the million-dollar view and the breeze that comes into the dining room off the ICW. The ordering area is tiny and fills up quick, but any wait is well worth it. You have to make ProCo a stop on your next trip to Holden Beach! read more

Just finished the best birthday lunch here! My husband had the shrimp burger and rated it at 10/10. I do not like seafood at all and even tried a bite of his burger and wow it was amazing! I had the chicken tender basket which was just like every other tender basket but it was good for a menu of mostly (and rightfully) seafood. Really cool location and views, the concept of ordering and seating was different but not necessarily bad. We will definitely be returning! read more

Wound up eating 4 meals here during our week's stay and for good reason as the Provision Co. was overall the best seafood we had in the Holden Beach area. The shrimp burger is as good as all the previous reviews say it is with tons of very fresh shrimp, a tiny bit of binder and served with a very tasty remoulade type sauce. Other things sampled included the grilled grouper sandwich which was a big slab of fish grilled perfectly moist, peel and eat shrimp which were very fresh, tasty and firm, cheeseburger that my oldest had twice and loved, conch fritters which were good and the crabcake which was the worst thing we tried. Not horrible but fried with too much binder. If you want a good crabcake, go to Archibald's Deli for lunch. read more

Go for the view and the drinks. We have visited three times and the food is okay at best. Very simple. There are some good fish dishes but this last visit I ordered the crab cake lunch and the crab cake had one tiny piece of crab in the middle and the rest was bread. It came with very good boiled shrimp on the side and coleslaw that is quite good. It was honestly the worst crab cake I've ever had and I would have given them a one star if not for the view and the drinks. read more

Pretty decent place, but there were a couple of things I would work on. 1) Cover the cooking area up. It was a bit disheartening to see folks sweating horribly while doing there best in these challenging times. The place was very busy and the team was really putting in a ton of effort to keep up. 2) The food was decent as well, but nothing really to write home about. Had to swing by and leave a review for my favorite place to eat at Holden! My husband first brought me here years ago, back when we were dating and visiting his parents in the area. I got a huge pile of shrimp and they made me try the shrimp burger, which I thought would be weird. It was decidedly NOT weird. Y'all. It's the absolute best thing-- pretty sure it's made with only two ingredients: shrimp and magic. I've had many meals here and that's the favorite dish for sure, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu, nor anything at the bar! This is a must stop while going to Holden Beach. They keep tables apart and clean well between customers. 15 minute wait for a table wasn't bad. It was nice to be on the side deck and enjoy the sunshine and the breeze off the inter coastal. We were seated quickly and our food arrived promptly. Ever been excited to try a business and feel like they have no interest in your patronage? We were excited to try this place, but it was not a good experience. We went at 4 pm before it got super busy. We told the gal at the counter we had not ever been before so weren't sure how it worked. She was not helpful and honestly rude. To be clear there was no one waiting behind us, but the gal just tried to rush us through our order and barked questions--again we had never been here. She was so rude I wish I had the presence of mind to walk out. I've never done that anywhere, but man I wish I had spared us because it only got worse. The crab cakes were ALL breading. I could literally count the few white flakes of crab. We order two crab cakes and didn't eat them. The burger, chicken strips, and fries were just ok. The steamed shrimp were...mushy. The salads were big and okay. The gal who delivered our food was hostile and when I asked for cocktail sauce and said we didn't need the tarter sauce, she was curt explaining they had to bring both because of shift change. I didn't care, I was just trying to save her the trouble. It was such an odd experience as a customer to have staff be aggressive and rude when we were chill just looking for a new place in Holden. The young teen girl who cleared at the end was very nice. My husband had to literally hunt someone down to pay after standing at the counter almost 10 minutes. I mean, do they not want the business or people to pay? Lastly, our bill was $85 and it sure didn't reflect the prices online. My husband just got wanted out of there so he didn't make an issue, I was in the car with the kids waiting. We couldn't read the receipt when we looked in the car to see how we were ended up so high. He tipped under our standard 20%, and gave the waitress a $10, which I feel was generous based on how extremely rude she was to us. We both come from successful restaurant backgrounds and this was really terrible. Wish we had walked out when we were first treated so rude and had our $95 back. What a waste of money. Pretty sure we were WAY overcharged. We left hungry and bewildered at how the staff is allowed to be so rude today. So mad that we didn't make a stink, but it had gotten busy and we aren't those people, again we have been in the business, but I would love my $95 back though. My wife and I are split on Provision Company. She gives it a perfect score. Me? Not so much... I mean, it's got a lot of things going for it. I love the atmosphere, the location, and even the live music. I totally dig the t-shirts and attitude. I even appreciate that it's got an amazing mixture of clientele. You'll find people who have been on the water all day right next to folks having a dinner out. You'll find as many locals as you will vacationers. The food is fresh, and everything seems to be local seafood. The staff is always super friendly and polite. And I LOVE being able to eat while overlooking the intercostal waterway. It has all the marks of a perfect place. So why can't I give it 5 stars? Because, being completely honest, the food is just good. Perhaps really good, but it's not great. Please don't get me wrong. ProCo is somewhere I will definitely return to, and I would definitely recommend that folks should try it out. read more

Tonight I dined at The Provision Company for the first time but it will definitely be my last time. I have never experienced such rudeness from a business!! The food was nothing to write home about, as the grouper sandwich I ordered was small and fishy. So I nicely sent it back and decided to go with a no brainer, a cheeseburger. Well it got there, minus the grilled onions that I had asked for, but It was hot, so that was a plus. The woman who brought the burger wasn't the original waitress who had delivered our food at first, she was a manager of sorts i guess, who was clearly irritated that I had sent back the fishy unpleasantness they apparently called fresh. She offered no apologies and had no concern about the quality of my food, that was clear! She exhibited hostility for having to bring the burger out as a substitute, but I took it in stride and left....her and her sub par food and attitude. She should've just been extra thrilled that I came there to eat in mid November, AND was supporting the slow season.... Oh well lesson learned, and I'm the wiser for it. read more

I hate writing this review. I've been coming to Proco for over 15 years - like clockwork. It's what we do, a tradition every year when we come to Holden Beach. Yes, is there a wait? Certainly. But it's always been worth it for the cold beer, good food and atmosphere. Tonight it was just such a disappointment...lukewarm food, nary a smile from anyone. I get it - you get tired of the summer folks but we used to LOVE coming to see you. This might be our last visit. I can find other places that will at least act like they're happy to see us...esp after dropping close to $200 for a meal. Go if you must - but be warned they don't really like their job, the visitors or anything else it seems. read more

Went there a week ago based on these reviews. The hamburger was overcooked to the point of crumbling. The "crab cake " was overcooked, black and had no taste. The steamed shrimp were overcooked. Food was delicious! Until the bartender with blue eyeshadow, who was never actually behind the bar, was very rude and disrespectful towards me when I was ordering a drink. When I asked what was wrong, she replied "you ordered four painkillers." This was really disappointing from such a friendly establishment that we otherwise enjoy. I love going to the provision company for lunch or dinner, it is very casual and they have live music some evenings and on weekends, the food is always great and the service is good, wait staff is always friendly, stop by and have a great meal as you sit next to the intercostal water way watching boaters go by and dolphins at play. read more

I'm shocked that people like this place. We walked in and ordered. I wanted to order a drink for me and my wife and she said they take drink orders at the bar. So perfect Everything seemed normal, then I walked through the doors to the bar and it's pitch black with no lights. And 2 people sitting there drinking so I figured there was a bartender somewhere. I stood for probably 5 minutes as this lady on her phone just stared at me from the window of the kitchen. In my head I'm like there's no way she's the bartender, because she would be helping me. I did think maybe she would tell someone, but I said screw it and went and sat down and ate my crab cakes that were soggy from Italian dressing from the cucumber salad. As I was leaving the lady who was staring at me while on her phone was the bartender and was helping the 2 people sitting there. I was infuriated, I wanted to throw their awful plastic lawn furniture they use as seating into the water. Me and my wife are here for a few months on a work assignment, would love to find a decent place to have a drink and talk to the locals. This isn't it.
