On a flight my seat mate told me about Pub & Kitchen. The name stuck, so I grabbed a friend and gave it a go. A "no reservations" policy meant a small wait before we were seated. Even during the day, the Pub's darker than I'd like, but there's sidewalk seating for the nyctophobic. Besides a gigantic bar, this restaurant has comfortable stylings, subtle rabbit and pig imagery all about. Despite the crowd inside and out, server Laura managed to keep us buzzed. We shared fresh kusshi oysters (at market price, which we all know is scary markup), before moving onto a bowl of Thai basil mussels. For an entree, I had a pan-fried pork cutlet, not bad, not too dry, with a decent amount of flavor. Table bread was so-so, but we spent more time on their other yeasty treats: a Yards "brawler" pub ale and a pint of Sly Fox served nicely. read more

You know that place you've been wanting to visit for years but somehow just never make it there? Yep. That was Pub & Kitchen for me. I had always heard good things, it looked right up my alley as a craft beer lover, and I had it bookmarked for eons. As it happened, on one recent night, I wanted pie but they were closed for a class. A quick look at my Yelp app reminded me that P&K was nearby, so we *had* to go. My friend and I sat at the bar and split a fantastic sour based on the bartender's rec. We then both ordered burgers (mine without tomatoes, obviously). I think I'll let the attached photo do the talking for that. All in all - great, welcoming environment...long bar..nice staff. Really nothing poor to say other than the food was kinda pricey. Burger with bacon was $16. Definitely not a deterrent though. I'll be back at some point for sure! read more

I love this place. I've been coming for years. Know why? THE BURGER. At one point my good friends and I had a burger eat-off. I won't mention the restaurants in the running but Pub and Kitchen won the popular vote. Delicious, juicy, charred meat, great accompaniments(red onion, tomato, special sauce) and the french fries are so yummy. Last night I took two of my daughters here to introduce them to this burger dynasty and they, being burger snobs, agreed. The burgers here are delicious. This has been the case for a long time now. If you want a delicious burger, go here. But I also must mention, their food in general is tasty and well done. I've been here on more than one occasion for brunch and was not disappointed. Delicious bloody marys (and good food). Sweet outside tables too, if the weather is doing good things. read more

I didn't have a bad experience here - on the contrary, service was great and it's so cute inside, with lights strung across the ceiling over the bar area. However, if I am completely honest, I don't think I would come back simply due to the cost/benefit ratio. To be fair, I was there for happy hour. The happy hour menu consists of 4 drink specials (a Pilsner, house red, and two cocktails) and a mix of 7 seemingly random food items (cheese plate, oysters, fries, shrimp cocktail, brussel sprouts, deviled eggs, and a burger). It's definitely one of the more expensive happy hour menus (for food): $12 for 6 oysters? $10 for a small bowl of brussel sprouts?! I opted for the P&K "Single" Cheeseburger, which came with iceberg lettuce, fried onions, and dijonnaise. Admittedly, it was pretty good, but I wasn't asked how I'd like the meat cooked and the portions were pretty small. The bun was also a bit too big for the burger itself. My other critique is that my food was lukewarm. The fries were average. I have no problem paying more for quality but unfortunately I just wasn't impressed. read more

Randomly wandered here for brunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. To start we ordered the signature orange spritzer drink, which is a must when you go. This is the main drink they advertise and it's super refreshing and fun. I also ordered a Bellini, which tasted a little like a mimosa, but still good. For food I ventured outside of my typical breakfast go to's and got the tuna avocado toast, which was delicious. The tuna tasted fresh and the toast was cooked perfectly. It came with a lightly seasoned arugula salad which was a good touch. And since I'm a French fry addict, we ordered a side of fries, which came thin, crispy, and seasoned perfectly. I enjoyed this spot for a late-night quick adventure with some friends recently. The beer selection was quite varied and I speedily found a scrumptious brew to sip. The food menu wasn't so appealing for a late-night snacker, but I did end up with a bready British appetizer (whose name I'm forgetting), that I'd never tried before. I'm always up for testing the waters with a new dish whenever I can! The ambiance is rather dark, but very warm and comfortable at the same time. I'd like to actually dine on a full meal here sometime in the near future, and then I'll have a better base from which to judge. read more

I wish I could give 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous. Really good neighborhood spot, with fancy specialty cocktails and really delicious foods. Both times I've been, was slightly disappointed in the craft beer selection, bottles and draft, but there's enough cocktails on the menu to keep me interested! I ate a cheese plate and the escargo.. Both were sooo delicious. I heard the burgers are the best, so maybe ill order that next time. Atmosphere is narrow, dark lighting, pub style layout , long narrow bar with a few dinner tables in the back. Good for a casual but delicious dinner, and even better for several drinks! Weekends are packed, standing room only at bar, or 45 min wait for a table on Saturday nights. But, it's worth it and the staff are friendly! I will definatly return to P&K! read more

This place was such a letdown. I have wanted to try this place FOREVER and the food was so disappointing. The service was good, but the food was just not tasty. I tried the burger since I've heard this place was known for their burgers. It ended up being two smaller burgers that were greasy and grisly. The fries were also not crunchy like you would expect with good fries. It was also really expensive for what it was. I think I'll stick with my usual burger places like Good Dog and Grace Tavern. read more

Quality place every time I come. We were here just for drinks and appetizers this time around. Service was good and we ordered the calamari. It was one of the best I've had - very crispy, flavorful breading, and comes with a smokey dip. The calamari itself was soft and bog chewy! As NYC transplants we are admittedly hard to please. I liken P&K to a cool find in SoHo, East Village or the Meat Pcking Dist. It's charming cozy atmosphere came through, even on a robust fall Saturday eve. We sat in the back room having arrived by 7:30, there we're at least 5 empty tables in that back room still. If this is a date night, ask for this room. We ordered Massachusetts oysters beyond excellent. A good sign, we felt. We then shared the gem hearts Caesar Salad with a home made dressing for sure. It was enough to satisfy two and was freaking good. It was clear this was no ordinary pub fare, by now. I know we should have gotten the P&K burger but we had just had one elsewhere recently so we both got the cod in a cast iron skillet. This was no pup fare either. It was delicate, light and elegant. A real surprise. We did experience a hiccup and here is where the hospitality part comes is. Having had a son in the F&B business in Singapore, I know full well that if you fail in hospitality, no matter how awesome the food, you have then failed everything. Our server was Mary Ellen I believe. The warmest most sincere young server in Philly thus far in our three months at some of philly's finest. ME nailed it as did the woman who sat us, actually. First we asked to be moved from the bar area. The woman who sat us was so gracious, and could see after we were first sat that we wanted to move from the hustle of the bar. She not only noticed us but then crossed a busy room and moved us with not one hint of judgment or inconvenience. In fact she seemed kinda over joyed to do so! Well done, Ms Hostess. But back to ME. Our third course was late getting out. Like, LATE. Just as we were about to look around for help from anyone nearby, ME was making serious tracks our direction with instant apologies, our food perfectly prepared and a free round of our high end wines. Her sincerity, again, could not be matched! We were instantly happy again. She made our food taste better if you know what I mean. We passed on deserts. Next time. I wanted that brownie in a skillet cooked to order and served warm, more that I can say. Remember the original White Dog Café? Somehow this reminded me of a micro version of that. *sigh* We were happy to just be there. I loved our entire experience. This neighborhood pub is now our new comfort RUN TO. read more

Note - this review is for brunch. Solid 3.5 experience! Came with a group of 5 for an early brunch on a Sunday and easily got a table outside. Our waiter was great - I asked his opinion between the open-faced meatloaf or the shakshuka. He said the shakshuka is always on the menu so suggested the meatloaf. My friends got the burgers and the breakfast plate (eggs, bacon, toast). I enjoyed the meatloaf but there was a lot going on. The bread it was served on was kind of tough and I ended up just eating the meatloaf off of it. It's doused in a jalapeño queso, an egg and pickled fresno chiles. YUM. I think it was wrapped in bacon, but it was soggy and gross so I picked it off. The breakfast potatoes were ok, the fries I ate off friends' plates were way better. I snagged a bite of the burger - amazing. Everyone loved the bacon as well - extra crispy! Overall good time, I will definitely be back! read more

Delicious. Went here for the first time tonight with my partner. We ordered the deviled eggs and calamari for apps. The deviled eggs had a unique and delicious trout roe on top; we loved the twist on the old classic. The calamari was also delicious. We then split the sticky bbq chicken, which was a generous portion and yummy. Fyi, it's fairly spicy. We loooooved the carrot cake with the mix of honeycomb/almond on top. I was admittedly a little bit thrown off by how loud the music was and it seemed a bit inappropriate for the vibe of the sit-down area (nice/restaurant style with dark lighting). That being said, I understand that there's a bit of a difficult balance between trying to balance the vibe of the bar, which is the first thing you encounter when you walk in vs. the sit-down area in the back. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food wasn't bad. We walked in on a Friday night around 10 pm and wanted to have a couple drinks but admittedly the bar was a bit too crowded. As a result, they would only let us sit down if we ordered some appetizers with our drinks in the restaurant side of the bar, which we did. Had dinner with coworkers and business associate tonight. Service was excellent all around. Cocktails of the strawberry smash was light and refreshing! Could have enjoyed a few of those, but again, it was a business dinner. Our table ordered scallops entrees, a burger, and the lettuces salad. Everything was superb!! Loved the salad, even for an entree. My co worker said the scallops were delicious! Only downside to our visit was the volume of the restaurant. This place gets LOUD. While the wood floors, brick interiors, wood booths and vintage lights are extremely charming there isn't anything to absorb the sound of conversation echoing throughout. I feel so fortunate to have this little pub in my neighborhood! Pub and kitchen is unassuming, with no outdoor signage but plenty of outdoor seating that's always packed on nice evenings. They also have heat lamps that allow you to dine outside late into the fall. The interior is cozy and warm, lit with twinkle lights on the ceiling. There's usually room at their large bar and I haven't had trouble getting a table for a small party without a reservation. Service is kind, friendly, and efficient. I'm five years, have never had a bad experience here. The menu is on the smaller side and frequently changes, but their food is always delicious. While they have unique creations I always enjoy, the thing I love about pub and kitchen is that I can always get a hearty, *almost* home cooked meal. I'm a huge fan of their cheeseburger, but have loved several chicken and pork dishes they've had on their rotating menu as well. Where did I have the best brunch of my entire life? Pub & Kitchen. It sounds dramatic but it's true. If you're a bloody mary fan, order the Wrangler without question. The Wrangler alone is five-star worthy and is perfectly spicy. I dare you to try to stop at one! We ended up having a few and then moving to a bottle of rosé, like proper brunchers do. We decided to start by splitting the Dutch Baby Blueberry Pancake, and it was absolutely amazing. First of all, it's huge, and more like a cake than a pancake. Second of all, be ready to force yourself to stop because it's just that good. It's topped with key lime curd and dulce de leche, sooo yeah. After that, I ordered the sausage and biscuit with a soft scrambled egg and bacon morney sauce. It was even better than the pancake somehow, and the breakfast potatoes on the side were perfect. After all of that, I had someone roll me out of the restaurant so I could go take a nap. Really though, you don't want to miss brunch here. read more

The food is just as stellar at P&K as it was when I was the first to review the joint back when it first opened. The spicy, lip-tingling pulled pork is my go-to, but my friends enjoyed their crabcake sandwiches and coconut-whispered mussels. The burger's lights have not dimmed over the past two years, either. What sets P&K apart these days is how absolutely refined the service has become. Our server, Beth, wound off the specials of the evening with such love and knowledge I was tempted to order all of them, especially the organic, juicy meatloaf sandwich on brioche toast with grilled onions. Not only was she superbly versed in the menu, Beth was quick, efficient and funny. She is an obvious professional who enhanced our experience exponentially. Lastly, the decor here has always been great, but the additions of the flower planters outside and ringing the fairy-light wrapped trees has transported the outdoor dining section. I went to Pub & Kitchen last night with a friend. I arrived before he did, so I stood outside and waited. I watched quite a few people enter and questioned if I should run in and grab a table. I decided to wait, but it was fine since we were seated right away. I loved the exposed brick and windows framed with picture frames. The candle lit table was cozy and romantic. The music was fantastic as well, it set a perfect mood. We had decided on this restaurant because my friend told me it was the "best burger he's ever had" and the burger was quite delicious. The bun was fantastic too, it held up as I chowed through. The fries were comparable to Monk's. I had to ask the server for a side of dijonaise, and though it was quite good, it wasn't as good as Monk's "crack sauce". For dessert, we decided to get the bourbon soaked apples and donut holes. It came with a side of sauce that tastes like vanilla bean ice cream, but wasn't cold. It was quite delicious. The ratio of donut holes to apples was off, as we were left with a plate of apple slices. I look forward to going back to try each of the $3 bar snacks. Pub and Kitchen, I can finally cross you off my list of new places to eat at. I can now add you to the list of disappointing spots that I'm unlikely to ever visit again. My sister, Laura, was visiting this weekend and we went out for dinner. I gave her a few places to pick from, and I was happy when she chose Pub and Kitchen. It's a swanky little spot at 20th and Lombard. They don't take reservations, so we had to wait around at the bar until a seat opened outside and we could enjoy the beautiful weather. The tap list here isn't great; they have English beers on to go with the pub feeling, but I'd rather just have some stuff that is better and reasonably priced. I drank Thomas Hooker IPA, which was good and is actually pretty rare to see on tap. The service here was poor. We waited too long at the bar for drinks and our table service was slow as well. The worst part is that all of the servers are dressed like the clients, making it difficult to flag down anyone to help you. The atmosphere here is kind of annoying. It's darker, more crowded, and louder than it should be. If I wanted that, I go to any number of bars that I like better. The one good thing is the outdoor seating, because there isn't much car traffic passing by to annoy you as you eat. The bar has a few TVs, but they're all on the same spot. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're actually trying to watch anything, but if you want a baseball game on in the background, you'll probably be in luck. The one saving grace here could be the food. I had read great things about the Windsor burger before coming, and was excited to eat it. My medium rare burger was properly cooked, and came out with cheddar and bacon. Nothing I ate seemed flavorful enough; everything was lacking. The entire meal was forgettable. Pub and Kitchen also overlooked the importance of good bread on a burger. The portions here are pretty good, and the table next to us had the cheese platter and oysters which looked like decent appetizers. They also looked like you could get better elsewhere. I've been to Pub and Kitchen for both Sunday brunch and weeknight drinks, and thought it was a great spot for both. During my second visit I brought an Authentic British Friend (TM) to suss out the authentic English-ness of the place - apparently it falls a bit short, but he liked it all the same. I had french toast and bacon for brunch, both of which were wicked excellent. The french toast was HUGE slices of very good bread. I had ordered the special french toast of the day, which involved some kind of nuts but honestly I wasn't paying attention. There was also powdered sugar. The portions were so large that half of my brunch turned into dinner that night. The bacon was delicious - thick and perfectly cooked. Solidly good bacon. Thumbs up for brunch, P&K. I also really enjoyed hanging out here for a few hours for drinks with friends. I came explicitly to try the Welsh Rabbit (OK ... on their menu it is listed as simply "Rarebit," but in my mind cheese and beer is appropriately referred to as Welsh Rabbit). It was very good, and while the portion was a little small it was only $3, so I very easily could have gotten myself another order. The honey-whiskey chicken wings were a little more expensive ($9), but the order came with SO MANY WINGS. I'm going to need to try this again, though, because after a few drinks my perception may have been off. At first bite the flavor was a little strange, but it grew on me until I was gnawing away at the sauce on the bones like a starved little puppy dog. A starved, drunken little puppy dog. Service has always been great and friendly. My waiters have been chatty and offered helpful suggestions about the menu and drinks. It's never been crowded when I've gone, but that's always been at an off time, and I imagine that it gets busy for happy hour, weeknights, and earlier during Sunday brunch. read more
