I really wish I had good things to say about this place, as we love Angel Fire in general. We came in, it wasn't terribly busy and were sat down after a few minutes of waiting. We asked for a high chair if they had one, and the hostess/waitress wasn't sure at first, then told us they did. I guess she forgot or they didn't have any, and didn't tell us so I was waiting to seat our toddler for nothing. Upon looking at the menu, the prices were pretty high so it's natural to assume the food was going to reflect that. We weren't terribly hungry so we just ordered a few appetizers along with the kids' "spaghetti", which was actually rotini with marinara sauce. We got the truffle fries, buffalo wings, jalapeño poppers, and fried ravioli, all of which were only slightly warm. Our "truffle fries", which were pricey, didn't come with the truffle oil until we asked about it. Our waiter offered to add more Parmesan instead. Once the food came out, our waiter never came back to refill drinks or even offer the check. We had to go to the bar to ask for the check and we HATE to be these people, but when we asked who was in charge, they didn't even know who was that night. It turns out, it was our waiter who was in charge and didn't realize it until he checked, and the reason he didn't come back to our table was because he was training someone. We noticed on the menu that they charged a 20% gratuity for parties of 5 or more which is understandable IF the service reflects that, or if the party is 5 or more adults. We had 4 adults and a toddler, and he was the only one who ordered an entree. It's a shame this place was such a disappointment, the atmosphere was pretty cool and has potential. read more

Do not waist your money at this place! I gave it two starts because the service was great. The food however was not! Steak was so tough my father-in-law couldn't cut it. The chicken fried steak was tough as well. The people next to us had a small dog with them that threw up on the floor right next to us! Ruining our children's appetite. As I entered tonight, there was a Cash Only sign upstairs. The fact I had to park, get out of my car and walk upstairs before finding this out should have been my warning. Went back to an ATM to get cash because besides this place I had the choice of two pizza places and a Mexican eatery. That's it in Angel Fire for dinner folks. When I returned there was two tables of fifteen seated and one guy at the bar. I was hoping to get in and out so I went to the bar. Ten minutes later I got a menu from the bartender(?). Another ten minutes later and my beer showed up. It was one of theirs, and not bad. Fifteen minutes and an entire phone call with my wife later, she finally took my order. Remember quick is the idea, so I got a Reuben and mashed potatoes. I am 35 minutes into this quick stop when my order was finally placed. Worst case in and out in an hour...which is still sad for an empty pub with a bartender and a waitress serving. Nope. Food came 40 minutes later. An hour fifteen to get a sandwich with mashed potatoes. Food quality. The top piece of rye was obviously put in a toaster as it was hard, but not toasted, and dry. Not grilled by any means what so ever. The bottom slice had been grilled, but was actually burned. The fact it was soaked through with thousand island dressing tells me my food had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time. Why was it sitting? Mashed potatoes would be my guess. It clearly had been freshly boiled and pealed and mashed with a fork in a bowl. A dry boiled potato that you could still see the fork marks in. But the sandwich had clearly been done while the potato was still boiling. D- on food. The highlight of the night was listening to the owner completely inhibit any flow for the servers as he argued with the sales point system customer support because it was not working. This was supplemented by the bartender arguing with the server because she took an order for a Bloody Mary, which isn't on the menu. In the end, they filled the glass have full with the pseudo vodka wine based alcohol they use as they can't serve hard alcohol, and a rounded up a can of Clamato juice. I would love to hear the reaction of the customer when they tasted the clam juice in their Bloody Mary. I got the food down in about ten minutes while watching this, and proceeded to wait another fifteen minutes before they could give me a bill to pay. Insanity that a quick bite took 1:45 for a burned Reuben and a fork smashed potato. I could comprehend this if they had been slammed, but there was literally ten people max in the place meant for fifty. My two tips: 1). Bring and cook your own food when you visit Angel Fire. The food choices are horrid, and the service matches. 2). Don't bother with this place if you can help it. Dining there is like watching the introduction sequence in Bar Rescue where you watch them fail. read more

After sampling a handful of NM restaurants over the years, let's just say we packed our groceries for this trip. But when cooking and washing dishes got old, we decided to venture out for a bite. On a freezing cold Thursday night, we couldn't even find a parking space in the shopping center! Off peak! Turns out it was "steak night" at Pub 'n Grub, just upstairs from the candy shop. (They're owned and run by the same family!) And what a deal! The 8 oz "petite" steak, normally $15, was on for $11. Three of our party of four chose that, and I ordered the fish 'n chips ($19). The steaks were well-seasoned and served with a nice helping of some very rich mashed potatoes and some simple green beans to round out the plate. The only downside was the cook: even though each person at the table ordered their steak cooked differently (MR, M, and MW), all three plates came out the same. But I didn't care because they were delicious. I wish they would have warmed the plates, but no big. My fish and chips were really interesting. They were served layered in a cool rustic basket. I loved that I could tell they were freshly deep fried just after I ordered them. They were cod; no fishy taste, but not quite enough taste for my liking. So mild that my one-year-old enjoyed several pieces. None of those weird dark lines you see in fried fish sometimes. But the breading was really different--good different--can't explain it. Beer battered, not corn meal battered. The fries were seasoned but not over salted, and served with a spiced mayo that helped cool me off between bites of the peppery fish breading. I enjoyed the meal, but the steaks were better. The service was warm and welcoming, as other reviewers mentioned. I am so glad we tried the Pub 'n Grub! We had a great time with family here. Our service was quick and attentive and we did not have any issues getting drinks. Our family lives in a city so we are used to great service, and this place fits the mold of a big town eatery. I am a microbrewing employee in my hometown of Houston and I was not disappointed in the quality of beer or the quality of service. I urge everyone to support this local business!! Had high hopes when we walked in and it wasn't too busy. We were so disappointed. Our waitress was inattentive. We had to get her attention 3 times to get refills on our drinks, we waited an HOUR for our food and we still didn't get any food besides the chips and salsa (which was super salty) and the pretzel (which wasn't bad and tasted okay) that we ordered as appetizers. It started out OK - the restaurant is nice with a patio with tables outside, too (I guess it's a balcony since it's on the second floor), but it was too windy for us so we sat inside. We were greeted and seated right away and the hostess went off to find a high chair for my grandson. Server came over promptly and took our drink orders. Still didn't have a high chair by the time the drinks came back, so we asked the server and she said she'd go get one. After waiting even longer and still no sign of the hostess or server with that high chair, we asked a gentleman that was hanging around and he promptly walked over and grabbed one and brought it to the table. He was very pleasant about it. Maybe the owner? Service only got worse from there. We waited forever (would have timed it but didn't know it was gonna be a problem when we got there) and saw a couple of tables that came in after us get their food first. We didn't get anything special - just burgers and fries for three of us and the fish and chips special for the fourth - and no one gave us any updates about what might be taking so long. They weren't very busy, only 4 or 5 tables were occupied and the spacing in seating parties was pretty good. Our food finally came and other than the fries being a little less than hot, it was good. The fish looked freshly breaded and not a frozen patty, the burgers were very tasty, and the fries and sweet potato fries were good (but a little less than hot). The draft machine was broken, but the bottled beers were only $4. The wine was $12 a glass - a little pricey for what it was. Were the burgers worth $18 (plus another $3+ for one of us that added green chile and bacon)? Can't say that they were, but they were tasty and everything is so overpriced everywhere right now. The bigger problem was the service. We were there WAY too long and they weren't that busy. The high chair wait was surreal and there wasn't any attention paid to us through the process or any attempt to explain what the heck was taking so long. Are you in the Enchanted Circle in NM? Do yourself a favor and drive into Angel Fire and go to this restaurant. The name of the place makes it sound much more humble than it is. You can get a sandwich or burger here of course, but they also have a full on fine-dining menu, which is where we landed. Rib. Eye. Steak. Oh my! Perfectly prepared to our liking, a well marbled and tender steak that did not disappoint. Even the house salad was a great salad. In addition to delicious food, Pub 'N Grub has nice balconies both in front and in the back, both of which have great views. They have a short wine list, but we got a good moderately price bottle. The same owners and management team also own The Brewery in Angel Fire, which offers nice variety of craft brews and those are available at the Pub. The service was perfect, the manager took enough time to visit that we feel like she is a friend. All around great experience here! We are regular visitors to AF, and restaurants come and go, but The Pub is one that needs to stay. Sure you can drive into Taos, fight the traffic, search for parking, smell the city smells, and pay the Taos up-charge. Why??? Go to Angel Fire, no traffic or parking issues, and dine al fresco (or not) at the Pub, smell the fresh pine air and enjoy! You'll thank me later! read more

Big, big HUGE fan of Pub N Grub! The hubby and I took an otherwise unscheduled ski trip to the mountains last month and for those of you who've been to Angel Fire, NM, the dining options are a little limited. Well....we saw the Pub N Grub and decided to check it out. We pulled up a couple of comfy chairs at the beautiful bar and that was the beginning of a great experience! Food: We started with the artichoke dip....served with Fritos? Wait...what? I thought weird, but I'll try it. HOLY CRAP that dip was delicious!! The bartender didn't do it justice when she described it to us! It was hot and cheesy and arthichokey, and it had just enough of a kick to keep me scoopin' it up til it was GONE! We also tried the wings, which were delicious. My only complaint was that the breading was a little heavy, but they were still delicious. We also tried the pretzel which came with queso and mustard. It was SO good! Warm and salty and soft and I wished I had more of it when we were done. When our entrees came, we continued on our gastronomical journey! I ordered the chicken pot pie which had an amazing phyllo dough crust and was beautifully presented! Ahhhhh! Comfort food at its finest! The inside was perfect! Just enough chicken to balance out the veggies to balance out the crust. My only complaint was that the portion size was a little small, but I think I also have portion distortion seeing as how I'm from Texas and we do everything up big here. The hubby had the Fish N Chips which he enjoyed very much! The batter was a beer batter and was perfectly light and crispy! No complaints there! Ok...so speaking of beer..... Drinks: Don't even bother with wine or cocktails here guys. Don't even know if they serve them. This place is a baby beer mecca!! We had the pleasure of speaking with the owner of the joint for quite a while, and it's very obvious he takes great pride and pleasure in the craft beers he handpicks and places on a rotating tap every month. We were presented with a menu of 20 different beers (actually, 19 as one of them was the house-brewed root beer) with beautiful descriptions of the beer, alcohol content and region the beer came from. So fun to read about!! And we did our best to get through all 19 of those beers between the 2 of us! We may have even done it, but who remembers anything after 19 beers?? lol Anyhow, it was an extremely pleasurable experience, the staff is knowledgeable and hospitable, and the owner takes great pride and ownership in his place which is always nice to see. Can't wait to go back!!! Also, we were there during the week, but we understand they have live music in the bar on the weekends! PS: Only negatives, they're randomly closed every Wednesday. `In an area where there are just too few decent places to eat, this one stands out. It has an excellent list of brews and a decent assortment wines for the non beer drinkers. The food is standard pub fare with a few areas of elevation. The half chicken was excellent, juicy, roasted perfectly with a side of mashed potatoes and grilled green beans. Friends at the table had shepherd's pie and found it tasty as well. Cream of asparagus soup was thick, but good. Also on the menu were fish and chips, burgers, steaks, assorted appetizers, including something I haven't seen since I visited England, Scotch eggs. I want one of those. Not impressed. I think our waitress was a big disappointment. We kept getting extremely slow service and ignored the problem until we left and saw her sitting and chatting with her friends. The owner was very nice and replaced a flat beer on his own accord which was appreciated. We ordered the artichoke dip and it was served with fritos. For the price and the refined feel of the place I thought that was cheaply done considering it was not cheap pub fare. Beer selection is very good and priced similar to anywhere in angel fire. We came in right at opening for dinner. We were seated promptly by their friendly staff! The atmosphere is fun and hip with a full bar. We got the chicken pot pie which is divine. It's warm and yummy. I couldn't finish it! We also got the chicken fried chicken and it came with mashed potatoes and gravy. Huge portion and very tasty. My boys got the fish and chips and loved it. Very crispy batter and mild flavored fish. My little girl had a New York Strip and ate it up! Tender and juicy. We loved this place and would highly recommend it. Great menu chock full of local food. Waitress was extremely friend and helpful when helping us make both drink (beer) and food decisions. I ended up having fish tacos, fries and a side salad. Not the best fish tacos I've ever had, but as I sampled the other people at our tables plate all the food I tried was really good. Lots of use of green chiles, and other locally sourced produce and meat. Beer selection was impressive, I only had the Alien Wheat which was similar to a Blue Moon, but slightly better. The Pub 'n Grub is dead, long live the Pub 'n Grub! The restaurant reopened with new ownership/management, right after Christmas, in the middle of a blizzard. That's a big undertaking, particularly with Angel Fire's chronic labor shortage. We put off going for a few days to give them a chance to work out a few of the kinks but we were out of food at the cabin and I was tired of cooking so we tried it out. The restaurant downstairs from this one decided to be closed on Wednesdays which I'm sure added to the crowd in other restaurants. The Pub wasn't too bad when we walked in, one large party ahead of us. They told us that it would be about an hour wait as everyone at the tables had all arrived at the same time and were still waiting on food. We know that the kitchen is fairly small, we figured that the other restaurants would be about the same so we decided to wait. We waited about 15 minutes when the hostess came back and said that a booth had opened up and asked if part of the large party wanted it. They decided that they would wait for a larger table and gave it to us. Yay! After seating us the hostess came back to say that it would probably be 2 hours before we got our food. We decided to wait it out because it was cold outside and didn't feel like going elsewhere. After an hour or so, after most of the crowd had left we ordered. I had the Angus burger, hubby, the shrimp skewers, the kid, mac and cheese. Everything was very good and we closed the place down. It's nice to have the Pub back and have reasonably priced eats. Looking forward to a long and happy relationship. PS, if you have a large party, it will be difficult to seat you at any Angel Fire establishment during high season. read more

Zero would be better We waited for at least twenty minutes to order our appetizers while we waited with empty glasses. When we ordered our appetizers, it took another thirtY. We had to try three times to flag our waitress down, who was not busy, to order our meal. When she ignored us, we got the bar tender to take our order. We left after waiting another 30 for our food to never arrive. We observed the bar tender sneeze toward the taps -gross out moment. Several others came and were served before that. Is it possible that the negative reviewers mistakenly reviewed this restaurant after eating somewhere else? The owners are justifiably proud of the talented chefs who run the kitchen here. Pub 'N Grub was absolutely fabulous! Great service, good beer, and great food! We had the artichoke dip which is served with Fritos! Sounds weird I know, but it's soooo good! I had the baked ziti and my husband had the fish and chips. Both entrees were perfect! Good size portions and reasonable prices along with a super friendly staff makes for an excellent evening out in Angel Fire. We sat outside and took in the scenery! Belated review from February of this year. It took about an hour to get our order taken and over an hour and a half to receive our food once the order was taken. Our order also had multiple mistakes, where items were forgotten or taken down incorrectly. Once we received the food, no one in our party was impressed. My wife's caesar salad could have been better accomplished with a pre-packaged supermarket salad and my buffalo chicken wings were admittedly decent (although they were one of the forgotten items that took over two hours to receive since our initial arrival). Everything was also overpriced for what it was. Cute setting that had live music. It was just a shame the service and food were so lackluster. read more

The service was good, as usual. From the beginning, we've had problems with cold appetizers, but when we brought it to our servers attention, it was quickly resolved. We were hoping to eat dinner, but at $19 for fish and chips, I'm afraid they've just priced this local out. I don't believe that providing quality food, utilizing fresh ingredients should mean that fried fish and and French fries will cost $20 per serving! The calamari was one of the best I've ever had. The light cream sauce was amazing. Boys went crazy over the burgers. We have eaten at this restaurant many times and have always had wonderful experiences. Therefore it was surprising and unfortunate to read a review, like the one previously posted, when our experience on the same night, same time could not have been more different. Our food was very good, not cold Our waitress was very helpful, cheery and prompt. I would not put much weight into the previous review as we ate there the following night and once again it was awesome (the chicken pot pie is so yummy after a long day of skiing). We have had dinner here two nights in a row. The staff is friendly and the food is very good. We enjoyed the chicken fried steak and the chicken fried chicken. The Reuben is very good too. They were able to accommodate our group of 6 timely which is remarkable considering how difficult staffing can be in a resort town. read more

The food was incredible! Pub 'n Grub would easily thrive in any metropolitan area and would have a line out the door. We started with the scotch egg (a first for me) and it was awesome. I ordered a side salad which was extremely fresh...A rare find these days. For my main entree i had the chicken pot pie which had a light puff pastry topper and was so full of flavor...I savored every bit. So impressed with the presentation, quality and taste of our food, we decided to order desert. We had the bananas foster which was fantastic but i hear the creme brûlée is also excellent. They have a really great craft beer selection, great atmosphere, super friendly staff and incredible food...DO NOT MISS OUT! We regret that Pub 'n Grub isn't closer to home but will definitely make the trek to this place next time we are in the SF/Taos area, even if we don't ski at Angel Fire...it's that GOOD! read more

My service was in a Russian accent. I like that. It's cold enough outside to feel like I'm behind the Iron Curtain yet don't like the feeling of not having any choice on what I am going to eat. At this price for a nice meal when I ask to substitute green beans for more potatoes and you tell me it's a no go because the kitchen is busy you make me wonder at your planning abilities to not only accommodate your paying guest but also it take less time for a second scoop of potatoes and leave the other side off. By the way I also ask why a once frozen small chicken fry steak lacking much flavor is so expensive. And last if I order a cocktail like a mule and you make it and bring it to me and it's terrible then don't be surprised I tell you. Good place with lots of potential as soon as owners and management demand their staff and kitchen put out their top quality.
