We found this place by accident and had a good meal. I had the Gorgeous burger and the server was very agreeable about leaving off the bacon since I'm allergic to it. I chose the coleslaw as a side because I'm not a big fan of French fries. My husband had the green chili beef stew which he enjoyed. We shared bites of all the dishes and both enjoyed them. The server kept me supplied with plenty of iced tea. It was nice to sit and just watch people out on the Plaza. read more

The location is great and provides an excellent view over Taos historic square. However, that is where the praise ends. The food was of lower quality. Much of what my party had looked and tasted as though it were pre-frozen and reheated rather than freshly made. For one both the chicken and the steak were cold in their center while appearing to be cooked all the way through. This would indicate that, despite the significant price tag accompanying the menu, most of the food is in fact brought in a reheated. The service was inattentive. The servers were constantly bickering amongst themselves in front of customers while failing to check on refills for drinks or on the quality of their subpar food. We stopped in on our way through Taos. It sits right off the plaza. The service was attentive. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. Both were delicious. The chicken sandwich is served on a baguette - which for me was way too much bread, but I just ate less of it (the bread). The pesto spread was perfect. All good. My only compaint (and it's a tiny one) was they had the a/c so cranked it made my teeth chatter - literally. They sit up above the plaza (seating on the balcony looks over it) and they have stairs down into it by the restrooms. Definitely a good spot! read more

We enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service at this bar and grill at the heart of Taos Plaza. We selected the fish and chips and Caesar salad from the menu and split it. The fish was hot and crisp and the fries were perfection. The Caesar could have used more dressing but it was still green and fresh. We also indulged in a Tom Collins style gin drink with muddled cucumber and a Shirley temple. So refreshing and light! After a day slow rolling the High Road to Taos, the family was hankering for a warm meal. Considering the proximity to the holidays, it seems the gorge bar and Grill was one of the only places in town open, and the word was out... When we arrived, there was more than a one hour wait. But as my dad says in Vegas, "we're not here for a haircut," so we teased ourselves by reading the menu a few times, and hung out at the top of the stairs waiting for our turn. As a party of nine, it was actually pretty cool they could get us in at all. The fellow running the front end was very nice, honest, but compassionate about our long wait. He came out a few times to give us an update on other peoples meals, so we could gauge our anticipation. When they finally called her name, we all sort of let out a collective celebratory cheer, and hurried to our high table, surrounded by stools. Our server was nothing short of awesome; she kept our drinks filled, including those of several kids in our party who fished those drinks down to the bottom quickly. As for the food, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the quality and flavor, but the size of the portions for tourist prices. Even then, it was not astronomical. Everybody had a really nice time, and though we were there after their official closing time, they did not run us out, and we did not camp. The next time we are in Taos, I will definitely give this place a shot again. My son ordered a burrito that gave me mad FOMO, so I suppose we'll have to return soon. read more

We dropped in here on a Saturday night just as they were closing, and they were kind enough to take us in. I had crab cakes and they were pretty good considering that the nearest crab is over 700 miles away. This restaurant was ok in a pinch. We tried 3 others that were closed and another too far to walk. Being gluten free I had few choices. Opting for the chili stew it tasted ok. It had small chunks of meat and carrots amongst a soupy broth. It was more like soup then a stew. My husband had the chicken chili sandwich. He said it was good - large piece of chicken with little amount of toppings. On the side of his plate were lettuce, tomato, onion. I opted to eat them as a salad - putting his vinegary coleslaw on top for a dressing. It would have been better if the onion slice wasn't from the outside of the onion. The coleslaw was so vinegary neither of us liked it. The service was good, but there weren't many people there which certainly played a part. Stopped in just before a cloudburst. We had to wait for a table while staff ran around reseating the outdoor patrons escaping the deluge. Food was good, not exceptional and the service was decently attentive. Had a few cocktails that hit the spot. This is a reasonable place to visit for a quick tasty bite or drink but for me it just didn't stand out. While in Taos we stopped by at The Gorge Bar & Grill for lunch. It might be one of your best options if you want to eat around the Plaza. It was a bit of a wait, but we got a table in about 10 minutes. We tried their strawberry lemonades which were delicious. We went with their street tacos, the tequila lime chicken was flavorful and the beef sirloin ones are delicious. They portions are big, you get 3 tacos, a tad too much grilled onions on them for my taste. It comes with a side of pinto beans. Everything is a tad spicy, nothing crazy. I never visit Taos without stopping by The Gorge. Their location on the West side of the Plaza is the perfect spot for an afternoon drink. The view from the patio is hard to beat!! The service was excellent, even though I arrived 40 minutes before close. I felt no rush or pushing from anyone I encountered. In their entry are several Gorge t-shirts with cute drink related sayings. I've wanted one for years and decided this was the time to buy one. After looking in the storage area I was told they were out of the size for the design I requested. Fifteen to twenty minutes later an employee brought me my perfect shirt. She explained it had been placed in the wrong stack of shirts. I was beyond thrilled and a little amazed that she had not given up until she searched through their stash. Now that's service!!! Prickly Pear Margarita was delicious and the chips, salsa X 3 and a guacamole also hit the spot. They were a little spicy for this Gringo. Our weekend up north would not be complete without a stop in for lunch at The Gorge. We love the drive and are doing our part in supporting our local restaurants. The Gorge has always been hearty food that leaves you full and satisfied. Due to COVID-19 we opt to sit in the patio. The restaurant had just reopened for servie indoors. We were immediately seated and our wait person was quick and attendtive. We ordered a beer to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. When it was time to order, we each went with our own versaion of the Gorge Burger. I had mine minus the bacon and the cheese. My husband went with the works minus cheese. The burger was cooked to order. The first bite filled my mouth with flavor and was absolutely delicious! This burger had a great smokey flavor with a crunch from the dill pickels. The side of french fries were crunchy and warm. I could of ate more fries but all the same, it was more then enough food. A walk was next on the list. We went for a light dinner down on the plaza and decided to go to the Gorge Bar and Grill for the outside patio. It was a very hot day for Taos and the margaritas hit the spot. None of them were too sweet and the flavors were very good. The jalapeño pineapple had just enough jalapeño flavor - some heat but not blistering. The Silver Coin Margarita was traditional and very tasty. The Strawberry was very light and candidly could have used a bit more strawberry. We were also a little bit disappointed that they did not come in a traditional margarita glass. The tequila, lime chicken nachos were very tasty. The fresh green jalapeños were jalapeño roulette in that some were very hot and some not so much. The guacamole and sour cream were cooling and the beans and cheese were well-balanced. The fried green beans were breaded like a mozzarella cheese stick. They were very very good. The ranch dressing side was tangy and fresh. The server, while pleasant, was a little slow in delivering our drinks, and check but it could've been a dinner rush. The patio was lovely and is covered with canvas, so there is shade. If you are eating a couple hours before sunset you will likely get direct sun. Great on a winter day, not great on a hot summer day. read more

This restaurant was completely awful. They were pretty much sold out of everything on a Saturday night when we were there. So we ordered what was left basically. The salmon I ordered was the tail piece. It was way over cooked. The pork sliders hubby had he said were ok but the bread was stale. Double yikes. The calamari was also over cooked & had some kind of strange sauce all over it that was terrible. The server was just trying to get rid of us from the moment we sat down. We drove from Santa Fe to Taos and got caught in some unexpected snow so we took refuge here at The Gorge Bar and Grill to decompress. What a great stop! The spicy green chile sirloin stew was fabulous... the beef was fall apart tender and the spice was just right. We got free chips and salsa for checking in through Yelp and goodness, they do salsa right here in New Mexico. I got the cucumber Collins cocktail... highly recommend and my husband said his margarita was very good. The view of the plaza is very nice too. We will return! read more
