Cucumber Collins and Shirley temple
Michele B.

We enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service at this bar and grill at the heart of Taos Plaza. We selected the fish and chips and Caesar salad from the menu and split it. The fish was hot and crisp and the fries were perfection. The Caesar could have used more dressing but it was still green and fresh. We also indulged in a Tom Collins style gin drink with muddled cucumber and a Shirley temple. So refreshing and light! Ian was our server and he couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming to us tourists. Highly recommend!

Great selection of beers after some walking and shopping. The appetizers were really good. And the service was even better. The outdoor bacon view was also really nice to overlook the whole plaza.

OVERALL The Gorge Bar & Grill was a good choice for burgers, ribs, and other American fare and really good cocktails in a Taos, New Mexico plaza. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 3 PARKING Metered coins-only parking in a plaza. LOCATION/AMBIANCE Close to Hotel La Fonda in downtown Taos, this restaurant offers comfortable indoor dining and has a fabulous outdoor patio overlooking the plaza. On March 20, 2024, it was a bit more upscale than my cowboy was used to, but he quickly got over that once the drinks were served. The bar is great! Classic rock music playing low. Flat screens with pre-season baseball on. The women's restroom could use some work, but was clean. THE GRUB + Smoky Paloma ($11) - it's made with mezcal. Recommend! + Crown Royal & Coke ($8.50) + Crab cakes ($12.95) - these were a different approach than what we were used to. It was 2 crab cakes with tomatillo salsa & chipotle aioli. They were okay. + Beer-battered fish sandwich ($13.95) - it kept falling apart because they sliced my fish in two, but otherwise it was tasty with flaky white fish. + BBQ ribs ($21.95) - my lunch date thoroughly enjoyed them along with the sweet potato fries which were delish. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB Kid's menu is available. SERVICE All staff members were friendly and efficient. MY FAVORITE PART... The strong drinks. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The prices.

The Gorge Nachos w/ sirloin and the Gorgeous Burger

Great atmosphere. The service was quick and pleasant. I could see where people in a rush might consider the service being somewhat slow but this was a fantastic experience here. We order drinks, the Gorge Nachos and the Gorgeous Burger (phenomenal) (Best burger I can remember). The Gorgeous Burger stole the show and was amazingly delicious. 5/5 stars!!!

Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner and cocktails after exploring Taos Plaza. Check out their cocktail menu, they have some awesome craft cocktails... we did a Green Chile drink, and a Pineapple/Jalapeño drink... actually we did two each! Chips/Salsa/Guacamole were tasty. My friend enjoyed her pasta and my burger was decent. Friendly service in a nice open and airy vibe.

While in Taos we stopped by at The Gorge Bar & Grill for lunch. It might be one of your best options if you want to eat around the Plaza. It was a bit of a wait, but we got a table in about 10 minutes. We tried their strawberry lemonades which were delicious. We went with their street tacos, the tequila lime chicken was flavorful and the beef sirloin ones are delicious. They portions are big, you get 3 tacos, a tad too much grilled onions on them for my taste. It comes with a side of pinto beans. Everything is a tad spicy, nothing crazy. Very good service, they also have an outdoor area, clean restrooms. If you are in town, this place is a great options. Especially if you are in a rush!

Our server, Chaniece, absolutely made the experience. I told her I wanted to order some of the most authentic Spanish dishes on the menu, and she came through perfectly. She was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed excited to help us experience the restaurant. If you have questions about the menu, ask for her recommendations--you won't be disappointed. My partner ordered Martin's Breakfast Burrito, and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try all of them, but I'm very happy we chose Michael's Kitchen. Between the authentic food the welcoming atmosphere and Chaniece's outstanding service, it was one of the highlights of our visit to Taos.

Strong 4 stars. Hubs had the steak and eggs. I had a Denver-style omelet…read more Steak was good but a little fatty, hubs cleared everything else off the plate. Omelet was tasty and filling- slices of American cheese vs shreds was a little unexpected. A cherry on top of the cottage cheese. Literally. That's weirdness yall. But check out the bakery case. 100% the best part of the meal was the pine cone cinnamon role. I'd come back just for that.

My partner and I recently celebrated our anniversary and went to Taos, New Mexico to check it out…read moreas we had never been. This was a must stop recommended by many people so we were happy to secure a reservation and dine there. Ambiance was nice, we enjoyed the warm lighting and how it was inside an old historic catholic church. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable as well. I will say- the food was decent but it was nothing extravagant or to write home about like others have mentioned in the past. A lot of items on the menu have like one or two ingredients that I feel throw the dish off, so it was difficult deciding what to get there. We ordered the cornbread, mussels, the trout and the bison when we went for dinner. By far my biggest complaint with the whole experience was the fact that it is a cash only establishment, with no ATM even available on the property. You have to drive beforehand to the closest Allsups and withdraw whatever you feel will be the most for the check plus gratuity. This really limits what you can/can't get on the menu depending on how much cash you bring. I personally do not enjoy feeling limited by that or having to do math at the table in my head to make sure I got enough to cover it all. This also makes people look at the menu beforehand maybe online to get a good idea before driving to said gas station. They say on the website it's because "By forgoing transaction fees, we can better support our employees, serve organic food, and boost our local economy." but in reality I believe it's because they do not want to pay credit card fees and whatnot. Their sister restaurant Manzanita (which we also dined at) was not cash only though which was odd if they are related, so something isn't lining up at The Love Apple. We still had the best time with each others company which matters the most celebrating a special occasion, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to tell everyone that they gotta go there when they are in Taos.
