Francis was just terrific in providing a clear and comprehensive orientation to the facility and the procedures.

It was Bookstore Movers' excellent customer service that earns them 5 stars. The 3 movers showed up early and worked very quickly and efficiently. In that haste, some items were damaged and I offered that feedback in the follow-up survey. I quickly received a call from the company offering to discount my move and send Walter Davies, a furniture repair person, out to make furniture repairs. That concern for customers and making things right earns Bookstore Movers 5-star service. Walter Davies was excellent and thorough in repairing my furniture. If you have a move coming up, call Bookstore Movers. Lisa C.

We were disappointed with our recent experience with Bookstore Movers. The crew was polite, but the…read moremove felt much slower and less efficient than it should have been. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

The woman at the desk when we tried to do this was sarcastic, rude, and dishonest repeatedly during our short interaction with her. She first told us that there was a trash can where we could dispose of some stuff we no longer needed; this is not true, there is no trash at the storage facility, as she eventually revealed. (Why not? I find that baffling.) She first told us that she'd just moved to the area, so she couldn't provide us any advice about where in the vicinity of the storage facility we might find a dumpster we could use. (We lucked out with the Citgo next door.) Five minutes later, when we asked her if she'd just moved to the area, she said no, she'd been here a long time. She saw the scattered styrofoam peanuts in the unit once we'd cleared out and said "you can't do that. You have to clean it up." We said we'd be happy to, but they didn't have any place to throw them away (nor did we have a broom). She insisted that we had to do it anyway and she would give us a broom. But as we were walking toward the office, we chanced upon a maintenance employee at the storage facility, sweeping up with a broom. At that point, the desk lady realized she was busted, and that we knew she was trying to make us do something that other employees at the storage facility are already paid to do. She shrugged and sent us on our way. Not everything that was awful about this experience was that woman's fault. It's simply bizarre that they don't have a place for people to throw things away at this storage facility. But through her campaign of dishonesty and sarcasm, she managed to make the experience significantly more unpleasant. Sullen and non-responsive would have been a major improvement. Self-storage, like moving, might be one of those things where the standard level of competence is so low that you must accept this crap. But I hope not. [UPDATE: I realized that I forgot to add that throughout all our interactions with her, desk lady was also nastily sarcastic. For example, while walking toward the elevators to go inspect the unit, the lady saw a few styrofoam peanuts that had spilled on the floor and profusely "thanked" us for leaving those on the floor for her. Just tell your customers what you are going to demand from them. Don't be nasty.]

I have had many moves and thus, many experiences with moving companies. These include corporate…read moremovers and cross state movers. Grasshopper Movers is HANDS DOWN the best moving company I've worked with. Maybe because they are local and small, or maybe because they're just committed to providing the best service possible. EVERY single person I dealt with at Grasshopper has been customer focused and professional. They are clearly a company that is focused on meeting customer needs versus up-selling or lengthening the process. I would have even considered myself a not ideal client in that I contacted Grasshopper last minute and used them for storage far longer than anticipated AND asked for delivery and received it within 2 days of the request (meaning they didn't get to milk more money out of us just because they could.). DC is filled with lots of competition and these folks are just old fashioned in their approach - they have pride in their work. Finally, they also had the best price based on my extensive research (which I do professionally). If only they provided services outside of moving and storage - housekeeping? mobile phone service? Wifi & cable TV? OK, now I jest, but you get my point. Call them and sleep well. (FYI: I rarely write these because I seem to not have time, but I was motivated because of how awesome they all were to me - it's the least I could do.)
