public storage is a price hiking, predatory pricing establishments. when I opened my account with them almost 2 years ago. My price was $199 a month. And because it came out of my account automatically, I didn't realize that they had raised the price to $475 by the time I quit my job a year later. now it's $532. If you can, I'd avoid coming to this place. It seemed like the price went up every few months. And they urge you to have an automatic payment set up. They'll have you drowning in debt within a year. read more

these storage facilities may be ok clean but the pricing practices are borderline fraudulent. They will pull you in with a teaser rate and then every 6 months or year increase your rate by 20-40% or more. they claim they send an email or a note via regular email to inform you of the increase - but it's unclear if that actually really happens. Basically, they increase your rent frequently and hope you don't notice since you are using auto-pay. This is very poor business practice and the whole enterprise should probably be shut down. If you call the facility, then some pseudo manager pick up the phone; they won't even give out their last name - since they are in fact trying to avoid being identified. This qualifies as predatory pricing practices and should be avoided. read more

The facility itself is fine, clean and dry. The parking area is a little tricky during busy times or when someone is moving a truckload. The biggest issue here is price. Mine went up over 10 years from $204/mo to $531/mo at the end. It increased $200/mo or 60% in the last four years, while the service level decreased (frequently no one in office, meaning no bathroom). Meanwhile they were offering similar units at introductory rates for less than $200/mo. This is their business model run by an algorithm, it makes sense for you for short term only. I moved to Arco's in SSF, much more personal and saved more than $300/mo. read more

It's not a person's business. Storage facilities are always there for you; however, when you're not there for them, they operate with no remorse. After my release from federal prison, I was ordered to reside at the cesspool, which is the Geo Re-entry Services "halfway house" at 111 Taylor Street in San Francisco. When I arrived back in California, a lot had changed in my home life, so I required a storage unit to store the rest of the belongings I could salvage from my past life. I chose this location due to its close proximity to MUNI, AT&T Park, and Caltrans. My thinking was that since it was close to both the home of the Warriors & Giants, the facility would be about above the other public storage locations. To some degree, it was, but at this location, it had a lot of undisclosed "fine print".  The monthly rent at this location was on par with typical San Francisco rent, overpriced. I was paying nearly several hundred dollars for a 5×5 unit #0217. The main staff member at this location was also extremely rude. I have a medical issue & asked for an occasional accommodation, to which I was firmly rebuffed. On a separate occasion, I was told that "(the location) isn't a homeless shelter" when I was sitting next to the office a few minutes before the "Will Return By" was set to expire so I could pay the monthly rent on Unit #0217 in person. The worst part for me, however, was that Public Storage paid a man to run surveillance on me. The man would literally run surveillance whilst sitting in a chair at the end of the hallway & stare at me while I entered then eventually exited Unit #0217 that I was then renting. Due to a combination of several different factors, I wasn't able to pay for the monthly rent, & Unit #0217 was seized and then sold. Inside the unit were my child's inheritance, my entire wardrobe, my wedding ring, as well as numerous other life mementos. All have gone to the highest bidder. After all was said and done the man from Public Storage had been running surveillance on me at the facility, bumped into me on MUNI & began taunting me about losing my unit. They really hit you coming & going, lemme tell you. If you're looking to use this location during your MLB or NBA fan experience, I strongly suggest against it. Overall, this place is not the best place to go if you're of African descent. The behavior of Public Storage to place people inside of its facilities and run surveillance on them is uniform across the board. The same sort of actions were demonstrated in Phoenix, Arizona, at the Public Storage, 2 blocks from Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. There are other Public Storage locations in San Francisco that value not only your business but will also treat you in a respectful manner. As you can see from my other reviews, I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately. However! At great personal risk to myself, I write these reviews based on my experiences so that others will benefit from the experiences that I have. I encourage others to SPEAK UP! Do not use Public Storage. They will jack the price up on you a few months after you move your stuff in. I was originally paying $170 and a few months later they raised it to $250. The agreement you sign basically says they can change the price any time they want with just 30 days notice. This place is predatory. read more

It was easy to sign up for a space, and the space was a reasonable price. Easy access for me and my movers. Keep in mind that the price is month to month and they have warned me that I will have an excessive increase in price at the six month mark, although they would not tell me how much it would be or even give me a swag. The people who work at this location are 5 star, amazing people, however be careful when renting here. The people up front have no say over this, but the company overall scams you in pricing. They start you out low, and then will suddenly jack up pricing after a few month without warning but huge percentages. it will go from $181 a month to $250 a month with no warning. They do not recognize loyal customers and every few months will go up and up in price. read more

I have had items stored here for the last few years, as I continue to downsize, from losing a friend and his stuff, as well as an ex. I just moved into the current smaller unit in April, and now in October my unit space is being jacked up in price once again another $45!! It has not been one year in the current unit. While this space at 2nd street is rather secure and clean.. I think due to the price gouging, which has happened more than once.. I feel my stuff is being held ransom. I do not have leisure time to whittle my items down, and my land lord is an asshole and won't let me keep them at my apt. I would think twice about renting from this 2nd street SF location., due to the exorbitant pricing, and continued increases. read more

Super expensive to start with. Every 6 months they raise the rent 1/3 from the price, however, the rase happens on the 1st of the 6th month, so technically this is less than 6 months. The staff are not very helpful and occasionally rude. I would not recommend this place. read more

Impressed. For us, this location was easy. Parking was in the building. Very clean and excellent customer service. Brandon and Esther did a great job assisting us with our unit and logistics when we had a truck haul some stuff out. We were greeted with a smile and they were approachable. They seemed to keep an eye on the comings and goings of folks in the building. We forgot to fully secure our unit and we received an immediate notification. They had placed a Public Storage lock on until we arrived. We were impressed by this Public Storage location. read more

They schedule painters at end of month when people are attempting to get out of units. Could cover clear coat on vehicles then try to sue customers for messing up wet paint while getting out of storage unit. Never telling consumers while painting or even before hand. WORST COMPANY IN AMERICA. There are lots of bad companys but you got to really work at it to impress me. I am 61 and to be the worst with a simple storage REIT is really bad. The worst! They are ridiculously priced - $100 more than other 4'x5' units at nearby competitors. The woman at the front desk (don't know her name) told me that I could move to another 4'x5' unit there and pay less since my unit was on the first floor right next to the front door. How ridiculous! I wasn't being charged more for the location of the unit. I never asked to have that specific unit. Then, she went on to say that people come back from U-Haul, etc., because they are so nice there. OMG! How ridiculous again. She acted like it was nothing to move your items from one unit to the next unit to the next unit... It is my time and money moving from one unit to another and I am not going to play your games anymore. They charged $99 in 2010 and prior to that (for about 10 years) for the unit; now they charge $247 - 150% increase in ten years! Again, ridiculous. The other reviews here are absolutely correct. People don't want to continuously move their items, so they take advantage of that and raise their prices every six months or so. They said when I was trying to move out by the end of the month that five other customers were moving out as well. Good! And good luck with your over-priced business! In closing, it is such a relief to declutter quite a few of my unwanted items along with this unwanted storage facility. Good riddance! read more

I needed to get a bigger storage unit at this location. The online search showed no availability, but I called to check. Esther suggested I try again as she expected more units would become available towards the end of the month. She called back later the same day to let me know that a bigger unit had just become available. I popped in to view it and it was perfect. Throughout the experience, Esther was helpful and friendly. Next day I transferred everything from the smaller unit to the larger one, and Brandon closed up the account for the smaller unit. What a perfect customer experience in every respect. They are simply amazing, super transparent, great value and fantastic automation to help the move in.

The facility is fine - it successfully stores your stuff - a feat that most other storage units are able to achieve. I'm giving them one star because they will very quickly raise the monthly rate on you knowing that you don't want to move again. At the six month mark, my monthly rate went up by 30%. My original contract was not promotional (aside from their standard one month free) and an increase at the 6/12/18/24+ month mark was not communicated (contractually they are allowed to increase your rent whatever they'd like with 30 days notice). They seem to be employing the Comcast business model - continually inch up your rates because you won't want to deal with the hassle of switching. I mean they're right, I don't want to hire another moving truck and spend hours moving my stuff so I will just accept it for the next six months. Then they'll do it again, I'll be mad again, and I'll just accept it because moving is the worst. It is a storage unit and it's fine. Just know that at the six month mark they'll increase your rent by 30% and I imagine they'll do the same every six months forever. read more

Public Storage is far from a reputable company. Their rental rates are strictly the old "bait and switch" payment structure. A unit we have currently rents for $110 with an on-line sign up, based on the internet rate on 4/5/19. We rented the same unit in November of 2018 and currently pay $126 a month. They just gave us a rate increase to $152 a month. I discussed the rate with the local management and was told there was nothing they could do and the rates were set by corporate. I did manage to find out that they are now fully occupied. I called the "corporate" group and was told basically they could charge what ever they wanted and if I did not like it I could try another facility or get a smaller unit. The best advice I have is DO NOT rent from them based on price as they will gouge you as soon as they can. read more

We have rented a storage unit here for about a year, and so far it has been good. The staff has always been very helpful and courteous, in both the setting up process and whenever we've had to move things in or out. Folks seem to be upset about rate increases. We knew we were getting an introductory rate, so that was about $130/month for a 10' x 12' unit, and now our rate is $160/month. So far, it seems ok for the short term, but I'll update this review if I experience similar problems as others have claimed. read more

You just don't mess with people who have been moving for 8 hours. I called the number for Public Storage on the day of moving to make sure I knew when they closed and gave the location and city and was told 5:30 (by a live person). My boyfriend and I did multiple moving runs all day in order to return our U-Haul by 6pm. We arrived at 5pm to drop of the last load of stuff that wouldn't fit in a normal car to find them locking the doors. Us:"We thought you closed at 5:30." Rude PS lady: "No, we close at 5." Us: "But we called and were told 5:30." R.P.S.L: "Well the call center doesn't know." R.P.S.L proceeded to tell us that she would not let us in and gave us straight up attitude, leaving us with a full U-Haul which needed to be returned in an hour. 1st rule of customer service, folks: It is not the customer's problem if they call you institution and they get the wrong information. It's yours. It's even less cool not to be apologetic about it, try to make that customer feel guilty about depriving you of an additional half an hour of your night and give out your gangsta attitude. That's probably why you work at Public Storage though! read more

I hope you're doing well today. My name is Tony Perkins, I just moved into a unit located at 611 2nd Street, SF. I have a negative customer service issue that I experienced that I want to share with you & hopefully you'll be able to provide some assistance. I made my online reservation for this unit on Sunday, 6/23/2013. I rented it at $91/month plus a 50% off first month special rate ($45.50). I went to the office at 611 2nd St on Monday, 6/24 to sign the lease & move into our storage unit, however your computer system was down and the employees (Dominic & AnnMarie) were not able to produce the lease for me, however Dominic was great and still showed me the unit to ensure it met our needs. Dominic & AnnMarie were very apologetic about the computer being down and not able to sign my lease and they both confirmed that as long as I return by Friday, 6/28 my reservation remained intact and that I could move into the unit. So I returned to the office on Thursday 6/27 to sign our lease and move into the storage unit, but Brandon told me that our reservation was cancelled. I asked him why? He explained that I missed our appointment. I asked him what appointment? Brandon was super nice and very apologetic about the whole situation, but he said looking at our notes, that Dominic and AnnMarie were not clear in their notes, nor did they communicate to me that I had to set a specific time to return to sign the lease. So Brandon re-rented the same unit to me, but now at a higher rate of $106/month. And apparently now couldn't offer the 50% off first month. I don't see how the system cancelled my reservation when it wasn't communicated to me that I needed a specific time to sign the lease and if so, I don't see how I am attempting to return to Public Storage as a faithful customer (as we used you for quite some time down in West Hollywood), why the computer won't allow you to honor the reservation that I made online? This is why I made a point to return to the office before the deadline of Friday that was given to me by Dominic and AnnMarie, to ensure that everything was ok with our lease/reservation. We did move in yesterday, 6/27 signed the lease. Brandon was great and helped out alot. He was kind enough to provide me with your information and said he'd go to bat for me too. :) So I am requesting Public Storage honor the rate at which I rented the unit, $91.00/month and honor the special in which I reserved the unit $45.50 off of the first month rent. I of course have the printed confirmation of my reservation to show proof of the special, the rate, etc. When you have a moment, please advise. I look forward to hearing from you. read more

This place is so unprofessional and the managers are filthy and rude. They should not be managing this facility. I got ripped off for over $600 and got kicked out for being in my unit organizing my things looking for a debit card I dropped in a box doing my move which was overnight due to domestic violence. I was scared should I packed up and do everything in bags and brought it with me to the storage in less than 24 hours and these managers have cussed me out made me cry scared me and basically kicked me on the streets and didn't let me have half my things they kept half my stuff and then charged me for being 5 minutes over 6:00 p.m. because I had to do it all by myself. But the way that these people talk to me was horrible they cussed me out they scared me and I almost lost my job over it too. Hands down the worst treatment I've ever gotten and I want to find some way to sue them. read more

I've been with this specific location for over 15 years. Went to compare my rate to their current rates online and found that I am currently paying nearly $100/mo more for the equivalent space (same size and type) on the same floor! When I contacted them they suggested I simply rent the other space. No discount, no waiving of administration fees, etc. Plus, being an existing customer I don't even get the 50% off the first month savings - no, as an existing customer of over 15 years, I actually get punished for staying a loyal customer vs. someone off of the street. Now, I have to go move from one locker down the hallway to another. Wow. That's impressive customer service. Went all the way up to the district manager and no one was willing to assist at all. Brandon and his team are always so happy and helpful. The place is always super clean and I always feel safe since they have cameras everywhere. Gets a little crowed due to the parking situation during peak moving times (because where in SF) but super convenient location - and if you go on the off hours it's pretty empty. Had to take off one star due to not having at least one evening they don't close at 6pm. Bummer when you need the rolling cart and the office is closed. Highly recommend. read more

The storage facility is alright - but they don't let you pull in a truck. So, it takes much longer to load your stuff. My main feedback is on the staff - they are rude , extremely unfriendly and don't give you the correct info. When I was moving my stuff, I asked them about pro-rated rent if I leave the facility sooner and the staff said 'no, you need to pay full month even if you use for few days'. But actually the policy is they will pro-rate if you leave before 10th! I left before 10th but they did not do pro-rate because I paid on time on 1st. And when I asked about this to the faculty manager, he was super rude. Did not even try to hear me properly. Just said you should have read the agreement. Will not recommend this storage to anyone! read more

I had the pleasure of being helped by Ai'ana and Eddie. Both were super friendly and helpful when I went in. I originally was looking for a 5'x5', but then I thought it might be too small. Eddie showed me a 5'x7' and was able to tell me how much it was (only $1 more than the 5'x5'). I was renting for my company, so Eddie suggest I get a fiduciary agreement so that the unit is in my company's name, not my own. Way to look out for the client! Ai'ana was funny and friendly when I went to sign the lease. I can imagine how this sort of job gets really old really fast, but they were both extremely personable and professional.
