It's pretty expensive for what you get, but I'm only rating it this high because the individuals who work here are very kind and helpful!

They doubled the price within 2 months of signing up. I was assured that they will not change it but more than 10-15%, but clearly they don't care. I had to spend extra money to empty the storage and move it to Storelocal, who don't follow these bad practices. Also, their storage units are only ~6 feet tall, so not a lot of space inside. I signed up for a storage space online. I got a call from the facilities manager a few hours later, Scottie. He was welcoming and engaging. When I came by to see my unit, Scottie greeted me and patiently walked me through orientation. It was an expectedly pleasant and informative experience. I learned that there are a lot of benefits renting with them. And found that the entry system was well thought out. And the facilities were immaculately clean. These guys know what they're doing. It's a very professionally run service. If the location is convenient for you, I seriously recommend you give them a try. read more

Everyone who works here is super nice and very professional. I didn't really know what to expect renting a unit for the first time and they were all so helpful and friendly every time I went in. I only had my unit for 2 months and just canceled because I moved into a bigger place and they were quick to cancel and save me some money. Super nice people. The only thing I'll say is it's not a temperature controlled facility and it is kind of humid so don't leave things that could get damaged by that in the units. read more

The customer service is great. Anne and Brian are incredibly friendly and helpful. The storage units themselves are small and plywood/wood, but the place is conveniently located for me. Parking can be a bit tough sometimes, but I've always managed to get something. May just need to wait a bit or park on the street. read more

Brian has always been positive and Stellar.,Today however I had a strange encounter with someone by the name of ANNE who stopped by to inform me that there's no "hanging out" and that the door needed to be "open"- I did not know what was meant by this encounter because the door was not closed-I mentioned to Anne that I was in the middle of making a phone call and politely asked her would it be ok if I made a phone call??? To which she replied yes but u can only be hear 30 minutes at a time.,to which I replied asking "how long have I been here already" Anne replied, " I don't know, I'm not sure" I said ok lemme set my stop watch for 30 minutes and I'll be on my way. To which Anne was satisfied enough to continue walking, however just taking few steps before I politely said,excuse me.,what's your name??? Anne...was the reply before extending a hand for me to shake.,I shook the hand and then and then Anne departed and I was able to get out of there without any trouble., and I was just wondering about the 30 minute rule., because I'm well beyond the age of "hanging out", I work I don't drink alcohol , I dont use any illegal substance, I pay my bill on time.,haven't had friction with anyone else.,and finding a document may take longer than 30 minute. The online signup process was seamless, my storage space is convenient and secure...but I've only been here 3 months and they are already raising my rate to twice what I initially agreed to. I know that it is in the contract that they can raise the rent when they need/want to, but it seems like a pretty big jump to me. Also be aware that you will pay an extra admin fee your first month and a monthly insurance fee. All in all, a more expensive spot than I was anticipating and I will be finding a new spot to store my things. read more

However, because of periodic annual rent increases of my storage unit combined with becoming semi-retired and thus living on a more modest income, it has become increasingly challenging to keep up with this expense. Fortunately, I shared my concerns with one of your wonderful representatives (Jorge) who to my delight was not only very thoughtful and compassionate but addressed my issue without any hesitation and rewarded me with a generous reduction in my monthly rate. It goes without saying that I'm deeply grateful and would want the same treatment for anyone else facing a similar predicament. Well I have to say the thought of helping friends move their "stuff" from a storage unit in downtown S.F. doesn't sound very pleasant! What a wonderful experience, and I'm not kidding... The two representatives of this clean, well maintained, and most accessible establishment were an an absolute joy! Mr. Fitz Rush and his associate Ms. Ez couldn't have been more helpful and professional. Rarely does one meet such genuinely nice people who take their patrons questions and concerns to a personal level. They made everything so easy, providing equipment, suggestions and their time all with big smiles! I'm still a customer here after what feels like more than a few years. Great facility. Great staff. You can enter your code and walk right in and go straight to your unit without having to talk to any of the staff if you don't want to. I've spoken to their staff maybe a few times in the past 2 years. The last time was only to update my contact and billing info. Whenever I had to complain about other customers the staff handed it very promptly. This was the best and easiest place to sign up at and sign up for out of 3 places that I have rented from. I tried to rent from Uhaul and they wanted me to put my families contact information on paper and have their names and contact info in my account and they required it for me to sign up. I refused to give them my family's info because, me renting a storage unit is non of their business, and ended up not renting from Uhaul. I am a grown man and an adult. I don't need my parents or anybody else to help me rent a storage unit if i'm willing to enter into a legally binding agreement with a storage company and i'm willing to pay them my money out of my bank account. With Extra Space Storage I didn't have to go through any of that nonsense. Within less than an hour they showed me their units, told me the prices, I signed up and that was it. the facilities are pretty ramshackle here and an "elevator access" unit may actually require wheeling your stuff down several extremely narrow hallways before you get to the unit. the security seems a bit sketchy, as i definitely saw people tailgating into the elevators who didn't seem to have access. the worst part is the steep rate hikes - they raised mine by 50% just a few months after moving in. read more

I have been renting with Extra Space for going on three years. I have recently been delivered an incentive to vacate the premises. This company took the liberty of raising my rent this March, 2020, from $185.00 to a whopping $245.20 stating that this increase was a standard increase in the market rates. Exactly where do they collect the data that justifies a %32.5 increase in a matter of one month. Very unethical business model. New renters must be wary. Furthermore, I often experience the service staff and, on occasion, the managers utilizing the one disabled parking space for their own personal VIP parking. Again, unethical. Be sure to shop your storage options very well before committing to Extra Space. read more

My boyfriend rents space here. The times I've gone there's parking in the 5 or 6 space garage. The facility is clean and the employees are helpful and friendly. The bathrooms seem to be used to lot of people who own storage space butt wasn't so bad the day I had to use the loo. Glad there's a bathroom available! I found this storage by googling this particular neighborhood (after being disappointed in the one on Second street that I had reserved before but gave up because of no convenient loading zone/parking) - they were quick to respond and when I arrived minutes later - the check-in and the loading went on fast and smoothly. It's my first month (and even though it cost the most with $29 administration fee added plus $14.20 insurance added to the rent base price) I'm glad with my choice. So far so good. read more

We've been storing household goods here since mid-pandemic. The staff has always been incredibly accommodating and responsive. In particular, Ben was a standout. He made sure that we were taken care of and kept his promises. He also made our move out easy. Reserved the freight elevator for us and a large parking spot. I just can't say enough good things for his exemplary customer focus. Thank you Ben! The facility is nice overall. I felt like the security, cleanliness, and accessibility were on par with my expectations--I'm not saying that it's a deluxe suite at the Ritz. Oh, speaking of, it seems that a lot of their clientele are homeless people that rent a storage locker to stow their stuff. It's a bit disconcerting to see so many homeless people in the facility when you're moving valuables around but I never actually get unsafe. The storage dimensions, as someone else stated, are inaccurate and sometimes the larger dimensioned units actually felt smaller than the smaller ones. They're cheap plywood containers stacked on top of one another. Now, for the company. Extra Space informed us when we signed up that price raises were to be expected. But the representative told us that this would be in the price hikes were between 5-10%. Imagine our surprise when four months after we started renting, the price shot up by 20%! Now, this unit was never reasonably priced but we bit the bullet because we had no options. But now it became exploitative. We are walking away unhappy that the price was raised so sharply especially in the middle of a pandemic where this company had all of the leverage. It's unethical, unprofessional, and eliminates the chances of our doing business with Extra Space in the future. read more

When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and an amazing manager named Fritz. Fritz walked us to our unit, made sure it was the size we needed. Staff is nice, but buyer beware. None of the units are the size they list. Their "estimated" sizes that "may not be the actual" size as stated in their contract - you can be sure each dimension is at least a foot to 3 feet smaller. We got there to fill an 8x8 and found it 6x7 (and partly taken up by a pillar) so there would not be enough room for our king size bed frame that measures over 7 feet as we had planned for. Queue the upsell. Now for an extra $70 a month we can have one that is 8x9 (listed as 8x12). You think we would have learned since our other unit with them is an 8x12 and is 7x9. But it's only for a few months and then we are out of both and done with these scam artists. read more

Before I've even moved anything into my unit they're trying to run some sort of game on me, saying I have to move into another unit, with a deadline after which they are free to charge me an extra month, I'm to sign A CONTRACT to this effect. One of the contracts upon signing up - which was BIZARRE, the amount of legalese and bs - was to sign off on being able to sue them. One supposes they expect to be sued. I'm not an idiot, I don't sign documents trying to screw myself. I expect frankly to be in court with this entity. AVOID. read more

Can't beat the price and accessibility when you live in Soma/Mission (aka the land of perpetually small apartments).The neighborhood is what is... unsightly but generally as safe as anything in SF. They have good security measures in place. Been using my storage unit for all the things that don't fit in my apartment and haven't had any problems in the last year. I started using this storage facility four years ago. Recently I received a notice that my rent would be increased. The amount of this recent increase effectively more than doubled the amount of rent that I was paying four years ago. Extra Space Storage is not in the business of offering a service. It's in the business of taking advantage of and making large amounts of money off people who are often underprivileged and are stuck with no other place to keep their stuff. Extra Space Storage is almost in the same nasty group of businesses as payday loans which exploit the poor and defenseless. I'm leaving. read more
