I rented from the Public Storage off McFadden in Santa Ana for about 6 to 8 months. This was my first experience using one of these facilities, and while there are pros & cons to the experience, I would say it checked off the boxes that mattered most to me. *Property was safe, never broken into, and easily accessible. *They have a large parking lot in front which made for easy drop offs & pick ups. *Bathroom available for guests on site *Dollys are available but limited in quantity. You also have to leave off your ID in exchange for one. I often bypassed this by just bringing my own. *Elevator accessibility, and doesn't time out after a few seconds. *Great experience with Jocelyn, and staff. She was forthcoming, accommodating, and never made me feel like just another number. She didn't rush me, and answered all of my questions. I appreciated her honesty, and genuine character. Since then I've also had experience with another storage company and what I've learned is that staff is going to be limited at these sites period. They often have to multi-task, wear many hats, and that will often pull them from one side of these giant properties back to the other. It's really not their fault that they can't just be present at the desk 24/7. It's really on the company for not wanting to hire additional staff to take care of these other janitorial, and on site mishaps. I've also learned that parking in front of the building is a luxury, not a requirement. Also having access to a bathroom. That being said, I would absolutely rent from Public Storage again. My only complaint was that they wouldn't honor a coupon that had expired just 12 hours earlier for their winter deal. Unfortunately promotions and general customer service is handled by an outside rep. Aside from that, my experience was very good. read more

My brother has a storage here and has had it for years. A few months passed before he went back and he found it had a different lock. They made him wait a couple days to get someone to cut it and sure enough, half his stuff was gone. They said they would check cameras and guess what, they didn't find anything. We will be taking our stuff out and going elsewhere, it's like pulling teeth to get someone to help you. read more

This place is awful. Staff is incredibly rude, dishonest, and dismissive. They lied about my request for a decrease in rent going effective immediately for this month. Also lied about sending out a notice stating that there would be another increase. It's just been a nightmare since I got my own unit here. They take extreme advantage of people by justifying their ridiculous rates because of "inflation." They are not following state laws of proper notice. If you're reading this and you need a public storage lock, message me and I'll give you mine for $15. Moving is such a stressful headache, but coming here was a decision I was hesitant about at first, but was so glad I did it in the end. I was in between places and after I packed up most of my stuff on Saturday, I decided the next thing I needed to do was get a storage unit because I was still looking for a place to live and just needed more time to find the right place. I started to fill out all my info via the app Sunday morning and my friend called and I ended up talking to him for an hour or so and forgot about filling out the rest and went to get coffee. About 30 minutes after I got coffee, I get a call from this place asking me about my reservation that I had half-way filled. I let the lady know I would be there today to finish it in person and she wanted to set-up a time to meet me so she wouldn't miss me. The rest of the registration process was super easy and fast and one of the guy's showed me to my unit inside the storage building. It had A.C. and was nice. My family helped me move majority of the stuff to the unit and I came back 4 days later to move the heavy stuff in with friends and family. My stuff was there for another week and then I hired movers to help me move to my new place and they got everything out in 45 minutes. I turned in my keys literally the last day of the month, like 2 hours before closing and I was only charged a registration fee and $1 since it was first month for $1. I would definitely recommend this location and getting a unit that's inside the building since it's air conditioned. I wish I took town the employees names, but it was this one lady and one younger tall, thin guy that worked there on the weekends and were super chill. read more

The manager was pretty rude. I was standing near the door and opened for two ladies. One that I spoke to and another with two kids. This is a secure facility, but these two had to input code to go further in building. If the manager told me, but in a proper customer service way, it would've been fine, but she didn't. She told me rudely with an attitude. When I left, I said, "hope you have a better day", and she replied, "I am having a great day" with that attitude. THE EMPLOYEES WILL STEAL YOUR BELONGINGS. DO NOT RENT HERE. I had my deceased father's belongings here for over 2 years. I get a random call one day that they suspect someone broke into my unit and put a different lock on the unit. The circumstances of everything including entry records were EXTREMELY fishy and the employee we spoke to when it happened was very rude. Apparently there is no entry record of someone coming and going, and only the valuable items were taken within 24 hours of the employees opening up my unit to take photos of my belongings. I was delinquent and my items were about to get auctioned, and I PAID UP TO DATE only to find out that I was ROBBED. What is the logic behind everything being fine for two years and all of a sudden THE DAY they open my storage up to see my belongings, all the valuables go missing. I cannot get a straight answer from anyone and even when they scheduled someone to cut my lock to do inventory, they put it off for WEEKS hoping they could get their story straight. I only used them because I had to! there were no carts available when I was there. you can only use carts if you're there during business hours. my storage unit seem like it was a mile away from the entry. I was there one hour and I put four boxes in the unit because the time it takes to go from my vehicle hassle with the code to get on the elevator and then go all the way to my unit upstairs. read more

I have not had to rent a storage facility for years and things have changed so much...there's an app and you can set everything up online if you want..the place is air conditioned/climate controlled and there are so many accesses required just to enter certain areas so I feel safe leaving my stuff here for however long I will need it. read more

Clean and mostly friendly staff. Kat is remarkable she is a hard worker and has so much to do by herself. There isn't enough staff there and has 1 person cleaning, showing units, front counter, even yard work and etc. So if no one is at the front you may have to wait a long time to get a cart since they are locked up and need to leave ID. Camera's are not usable to when there is a break in. There should be sensors for above the units because someone broke into my unit but crawled on top to view what was inside. Camera did not pick up person well enough even thou my unit is right by the elevator. I understand privacy but come on on top of unit is not privacy. Plus it took days to fix unit door so it was exposed for more to be taken. Prices keep going up but new tenants get cheaper price for same size. read more

If I could give Les stars I would. I reserved this unit by phone last minute with some movers. When I inquired about the online pricing, they stated there was no difference when I saw that there was over $100 difference in less than 12 hours of having the unit, I asked if they could honor the online price, they declined the on-site manager AYLA was rude and declined to give me the general managers number. She provided an email for Lizanne JANKOWSKI this person is listed as the district manager she does not return emails nor phone calls. This place is entirely unprofessional save your time and your money and go elsewhere. In addition, this is a month-to-month and when I inquired about the online pricing for the following month, they told me I would have to move out of the unit just to move into a unit of the same exact measurements. read more

Absolutely horrible. If I could give zero stars I would. We have had a very large unit here for years. After they raised our rent by almost $150 (making it almost $700 a month) we decided to clear it out. Only 5 days into the month and the unit was cleared out. They refused to prorate ANY of the rent!! Stating corporate policy. That's ridiculous! So now they have our almost $700 and will rent it out for the month again and get more money! I came into this storage for convenience. When I started renting, the staff was very helpful. The storage area was clean and the restroom was open for the early morning folk. I understand why the restroom is locked. It seems that when we need a cart, we have to wait. Two weeks ago, I noted that your site was saying that units could be rented for $1-dollar first month. I was excited but did not read the fine print to see I was not eligible. Your staff member reminded me.... rudely, and offered no options, or even said anything after that. I lived with that. Then I get the email that my unit price is going up 30 dollars a month. Really? I could have gotten the deal and had a much larger unit for that price. $120 for a 4x5 unit? With the type of service? That takes some stones. I immediately found another storage facility. I am getting twice the size and less of a price. I am not worried about the service. It could be non-existent and better than your team. You got three stars because of the team you had in place in 2022 when I started renting. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. They do not answer phone calls or written correspondence. They will raise your rent without reason. And it just gets worse. Well I had been waiting until I cleaned out my unit to review this place, but since I am stuck sitting in the parking lot outside of Public Storage, what better time to write a review! I've had this unit for a few years. Nice big one. Costs over $200 a month and no one but the storage company is happy about it. It's nice. Clean. Nothing special. However, if you would actually want to move anything in or out of your unit, you will 90% of the time have issues. Mostly- never any carts. Like now. Drove an hour to get my crap and now I'm just sitting here with no way to get it from my super expensive, remotely located unit to my car that is parked in an empty lot with no hope in sight. Did I ask someone? Yes. They looked. No dice. Options? I guess I could turn around and drive the hour home without any of my things and hope maybe next weekend my husband may possibly offer to watch the kid again for a few hours and I can go ahead and spend that amazing free time playing public storage roulette... again. Am I overreacting? I would say yeah, except this is the 5th time this has happened, though at least before I could actually see people using carts so that gave me hope. I am out of hope. Still hot in my car. Now it appears another guy next to me is also converting his car into a solar oven. You can risk it and come check out the place- so convenient off the 55fwy. You may find my heat-stroked self still rotting here waiting for a cart dreading the call from her husband wondering why I am not gone yet all while never even getting to squeeze out any precious minutes for my self out of this ordeal. I secretly hoped to drive through a Taco Bell after successfully getting loaded all quick. You can see by all my past reviews that I have never left a negative one before- however this upset me so much, that I wanted to share my experience. The facility is clean and air conditioned, the staff and property manager Jim, is typically very nice. Unfortunately, if you drop the ball and your customer suffers, then being nice may not always matter. I have been with the location for 3 years, I live out of state and barely visit the unit but every few months. My current unit is just a year old, which they raised by $30.00 six months in. This past April I received a notice that my rent would be raised by another $30.00 starting June 1st. $100- 165 within 1 year. Since I was going to be in town mid-May, it was a perfect time to move the unit prior to the June increase, so I called the office to procure a new less expensive space. A staff member advised me that before I settle on moving units, she wanted to speak with the district manager Dawn, about a rate lock which she has offered to several customers already. I thought that was kind and explained clearly to the gal that if the Dawn did not approve the rate lock, that I would be in town mid-May to move. Fast forward, the gal never spoke to anyone and my rate was increased. I had already been in town and gone by the time I realized this when I went to pay online. I spoke to both Jim and Dawn and asked them if I could keep my rate the same for ONLY the month of June, giving me a moment to get back in town to move the unit. *** I would now have to take time off work, rent a car and make a special trip out there. They both claim to 'have their hands tied' and couldn't do anything to help the situation because it was too late. They didn't in any way accommodate the fact that their staff dropped the ball. I am disappointed that after being a customer for so long there was not an ounce of accommodation or even accountability for their staff causing such a problem for me. I was not asking for anything free, just flexibility. Jim had the nerve to say, " Well you should have called or checked in"... Really Jim? Or, since we all have slip ups, maybe you and Dawn could offer some level of customer service rather than telling me, " yea that's too bad that happened". read more

Just had an employee hang up on me ignore my requests to contact corp. office and resolve my billing. She exhibited the WORST display of customer service. She was extremely combative & threatening by insisting I pay an overcharge the Accounting dept. messed up or else... Despite my pleas to speak with somebody in billing and resolve she just talked over me about something completely irrelevant to what we were discussing. If her poor customer service skills are indicative of the Co. Philosophy that it's safe to say all PUBLIC STORAGE LOCATIONS mistreat their customers. Not worth the hassle....there's sooo many other better storage facilities nearby that don't verbally attack you and do not have accountability issues. [RECENT ROBBERY IN SANTA ANA PUBLIC STORAGE] We've been renting out a 10x15 indoor storage unit for 8 months. Just a few days ago, 07/12/20, we found out our storage unit has been ROBBED. We lost our TV, expensive cleaning equipment, clothes, and branded clothes, which was a great loss to us. It's a shock that we got robbed because of the high rental price, door passcode, and security cameras outside. Our storage lock was a nice, hefty lock that we boguht from Home Depot, yet we STILL got robbed. Our lock has been picked through. Now, we are burdened with filing a police report about a burglary. By the way, the burglar is still unknown. To add on, a family member who helped us move our items into the storage noticed a sketchy-looking person near our storage unit. He has a theory that that person(s) is living inside a storage unit. If you think about it, it is possible for people to illegally live in a public storage. There's NO CCTVs inside, full AC for indoor storages, and a roomy space to move around in. Even if people have to be as quiet as a mouse to not get caught, they might take advantage of a cheap living space. Another Yelp reviewer for this exact storage location has also talked about believing someone lives in a storage unit. There should be CCTV INSIDE the hallways of the indoor units! When we asked the employees about their CCTVs, they said they are located on the outside, leaving us with barely any evidence that we got robbed. We are very angry with the security in this rental storage area. Do not trust this place. Hence the name, 'Public' Storage, your storage may even be public to robbers. Worst service ever! Their workers actually said that they don't get paid enough to do their job! When they leave to lunch they close down the front office but leave the back door open ? That doesn't make sense to me anyone can walk up go in and break into any unit. They don't have cameras inside where the storage units are. This is by far the worst company I've had the experience of dealing with in 25 years I have currently four storage units with three different companies due to having lost my business from a down power line falling on to our property that was followed by the fire department causing a small leak to turn into a big leak that flooded my business as well it was red tagged and I was pushed out of my business and my home most of my belongings were damaged but what was salvageable got thrown into storage units because we had 24 hours to vacate the premises with whatever we could grab I have to also mention that I have recently buried my 14-year-old son due to a unexpected medical emergency and am not even financially recuperated from that yet not to mention emotionally I'm still completely a mess well I cannot afford my units I'm going to have to lose one possibly two of them because I just simply cannot afford it I barely have enough to eat Top Ramen for the next month but I asked them if they would please be willing to work with me I got nothing but rudeness and they even laughed at me at one point they refused to do anything to work with me considering my hardship I offered to provide them with documents from the Red Cross Foundation also the discovery from the investigation for the fire death certificates anything that they needed I was willing to provide to them to show them that I was being honest and still nothing they in fact originally told me my balance was $50 less than what they changed it to after I had asked if they would please be willing to help I offered to even work there cleaning up or doing anything I could in order to be able to possibly save the unit but like I said they are definitely not a mom and pop shop they don't care about their customers their stories their hardships their trials their tribulations they're just in it for the buck and I just cannot stand a company like that that stays in business when all these small businesses are just going bankrupt and belly up all around us I urge you strongly to stay away from this company don't do business with them because if God forbid anything would ever happen they are not going to care they're not going to be willing to work with you or even act like they're human and have a urge to want to help another human being in any way shape or form they just care about the dollar and the dollar only so there is my review read more

I was cleaning out my unit and left a mattress by the trash can as it wouldn't fit inside the trash can (I see people doing this all the time) and there was other furniture left by someone else so I figured it was acceptable. They called me (after I left the unit) to tell me they want to charge me $250 because the trash cans aren't for storage tenants to use and I cannot leave the item there. I'm 8m pregnant and it was already difficult enough to get the mattress out of my unit - my fiancé is going through cancer - so man power right now isn't an option. The women I spoke with on the phone seemed to find it comical when I explained my situation and told me I can call back tomorrow to speak to the property manager. read more

I just moved out after storing here for 5months. 1 star - this is for the service when I first checked in and when I moved out. Very fast but too pushy to buy boxes and other stuff from them. 1 star for the location, easy fwy access. The rest of my experience is zero stars. My boxes were soaked and moldy. Spiders everywhere and the lightbulb that I requested to be changed when I first moved in was never done until the time I moved out. Urine outside my unit and noticed some people who seemed like they live there. Rates were higher than others and lots of hidden payments despite advertising a dollar for first month. You still pay signing up and the lock which is an extra $50 there. If you have time, shop around first and make this your last option. read more

I needed to rent a unit for a move and this location was recommended by a relative. I cannot be more happy with the service and information provided by Jim. He was very kind and extremely helpful. I had initially reserved a 5'x10' however, Jim thought maybe a 7'x10' was more suitable. Turns out he was right! I have enough space for all of my items with plenty of room to move around if need be. But then they couldn't even figure out the paperwork. Their printer was broken or something, and the online signature thing they used wasn't working so they just GAVE UP. So I told them I changed my mind about using this storage facility and they made a fuss about keeping the deposit. I had to call a few times to get it back. read more

I have been using public storage ever since I was 18 years old when I first went off to college, I am mow 27 and I still use them for personal and work. I really appreciate their fast service and clean environment and how every unit is alarmed and checked every morning. This one here in Tustin/Santa Ana is by far amazing the staff are amazing and every time I come, the gentleman is out walking around picking up trash and leaves and things. I love how much he loves this place. He always tells me thank you and have a great day and hi and good morning that is by far amazing. All the ladies that I have met working here are also amazing and nice, one of them actually told me I was a good looking gentleman and that was appreciated. All in all I think this place is amazing I only have one concern and bad thing to say about this place. Note to management: Please change your policy about the carts. I sometimes can't come before 9:30am and I need a cart at 7 am or 8am, your store is the only store i ever been to that locks them up and ask for a ID, so if you can please look into that and fix that. It be really appreciated if I could come here and grab one at 7am and do all my work and then leave. Btw: I have tried to reach out to Evelyn a few times and she has never called me or anything, every time i ask is she's their they say she is on vacation or sick, she must have a lot of vacation and sick time because they tell me this a lot.
