The hallways are clean and aside from the occasional smell of weed as people pass by it's safe. And it's right in the middle of Venice. Do not use Public Storage. They will place a lien on your storage, destroy your lock, and deny you access to your unit. They will charge you with so many fees, with no way to escalate, and so they continue to accumulate monthly. I have fees that customer service refuses to address or allow me to speak to management to resolve. Their policy is that district/regional managers will call the customer to discuss but they never do. I have been waiting for a month for a return call from the Venice location regional manager that I've requested multiple times. It is therefore impossible to resolve any discrepancies, and Public Storage continues to pile on fees that cannot be justified or even discussed in a satisfactory manner. If you do not pay the fees you lose access to your unit. They even destroyed my lock and charged me for the lock they then place on the unit. I did not consent to them destroying my property. Do not trust this company. Use a local storage company instead. My belongings are unsafe and being held hostage at Public Storage. read more

I have used various Public Storage locations throughout Los Angeles for many years, and I can confidently say that none compare to the exceptional service and professionalism I have experienced from William and Kevin. Do not store your items at this facility. This Public storage refuses to hire any security to protect the property from the huge (and aggressive) homeless population that lines the building. The homeless have lined the fences surrounding the property and often block the entrance to the facility. I've been harassed by the homeless. People living on the block have told us to be careful parking at the facility since cars are being damaged and broken into and that they've asked the storage facility to have security and to work with local police but apparently they don't care. So if they don't care about how the facility is protected, they're not going to care how your personal belongings are protected either. read more

RUN AWAY AND DONT LOOK BACK! I had two units for over a year - one was this dump the other was Storage Etc. In Torrance. First, they are just more pleasant in general. They have a kind of hospitality that is lacking at Public Storage. It feels like they are working this job extra and have the time and energy to go out of their way for you, whereas Pubs they treat you like you're bothering them. I had storage etc go out of their way for me so many times, and whoever works behind the desk - all the younger ladies - really tried to save me money and did things like meet my movers for me, or tell me it's cheapest to just break the lock off etc. They saved me a lot of time and money. Now here's the worst part - BUGS. lots and lots of cockroaches. And gosh you just get that sort of grimey feeling there - I'm not surprised at all. Storage etc. You feel like your unit is inside and it's clean and safe. Pubs is inside but it's dark and just has weird vibes I can't explain why it feels trashier but it does. And this has nothing to do with the homeless camp - I like that it's providing clothes and shelter etc. to our fellows who are struggling. Actually they're kind of jerky to the homeless people but whatever that's their karma. So I get home from a week family vacation in Florida. I'm feeling good - flight landed in the later evening so I'm pooped and just need to go to sleep. But I got some lovely desserts at 85 degrees so let's indulge. What else was beside my red velvet cake ? A tiny.. recently hatched ... COCKROACH. INSIDE MY DESSERT BOX. WHAT!???? Wow these little f'ers are seriously sneaky. They are quite talented to be honest I'm a little impressed with them. They're awake like 4 hours during which time they're great at evading my capture. It's like they can just disappear into thin air. Anyway I'm not here for more friends and I didn't want roommates so regardless of their talent I'm all set on any future relationships with cockroaches. They also carry diseases - they're an extra special species and I'll be happy to never see one again. Thank gosh I was able to identify it was the public storage boxes that were invested and could just target that bc I have a TON of boxes from the other *good* storage facility. I should probably ask for reimbursement for a hotel tonight though because my air mattress is on the floor and I've already knocked one into the stratosphere from my pillow read more

Outrageous price jacking. First month free they say, yet it will not be free. Lock, insurance they force on you, fees, then four months later they raise the rent almost 40% If you know your going to need a storage for a while, do your homework and find a place even if it's far away that costs half the price and will lock in 6 months or a year rate.. read more

The location and access is the only part about this that is good, the service is decent too but the constant price hikes (80-100$) every 8/12 months is a huge problem, I got my unit almost a year and a half ago and it has gone form (261$-466$) I purchased it online making me believe that it was a locked in price for acquiring it online, but they don't explain that that is a temporary deal, then they will quietly let you know via email, or message on the app that "your monthly rate has changed" and were talking 100$ increase per month (1200/YR) even though they have units that will be of similar size listed for the discounted price you would be better off just bouncing around units at the facility, then staying in the same one for a continued rate. its absolute robbery, you would think with all that is going on in SoCal they would have some decency or compassion, but greed is oozing out of Public Storage. Pretty standard storage unit experience. Generally no frills, and the remote entry gate system is great (when it works correctly). Closing at 5pm and locking people in is absolutely laughable though. Rambling/frustration/venting: My issue with this location has to do with my move-out experience. I scheduled a move-out on the app for a specific day, which was a few days after the unit would be vacant. To make a long story short, I was moving from LA to SF, and hired a moving service to pickup things from my house and my storage unit here. The moving truck was delayed and wasn't able to make it in before 5pm (annoying) on the day of my move, so the moving company said they'd be back the next day to empty the unit, which they did. Fast-forward two days (I had since moved to San Francisco and was nowhere close to the unit), and I called Public Storage on my move-out day saying that we had vacated the unit and if there was anything else we needed to do to get the move-out squared away. The guy on the phone, William, said no, we were all set and he would let us know if there were any issues. Never heard anything back from him. Fast-forward again a few weeks, and we receive a bill for an additional month of rent on the storage unit. I immediately call, and they say that the unit still has the lock on it and that the move-out was never processed because of that. I explain that we spoke to someone on the phone saying that we were squared away with our unit and that there was nothing else we needed to do move-out. They deny this ever happened, and they said that all move-out requests must be done by email (then why is it in the app?), and that since we left the lock on the unit, per our rental agreement, we were liable for an additional month. I obviously have no recourse because contractually they're correct -- leaving locks on the unit means that they haven't been fully vacated. However, it bothers me that I called on my move-out day to verify / confirm that the move-out was processed correctly, had someone tell me that we were all set, only to get hit with another bill, likely because they never went out to check on the actual unit. Clearly, we were not all set with the move-out, and if they had said anything, I would have obviously remedied it prior to our next billing cycle. The icing on the cake is that as I'm going back and forth with them disputing the bill, they eventually just stop responding and send me to collections, about 45 days after the bill was due. Absolutely laughable customer service and extremely shady business practices. Again, I have extremely limited recourse. Proof of my phone conversation amounts to a call log and a voicemail from William when we were playing phone tag for a few minutes. read more

Rented a 5x10 unit at the 4th Ave location in Venice. Ran into a few glitches with the registration process, but William took care of it and made the process about as easy and smooth as it could be. Can't say enough good things about him... super friendly and helpful... IMO, he's an asset to the Public Storage company because he really gets customer service. Contrary to some of the negative reviews on Yelp, my experience with this facility--and the staff--has been superb. I will continue to rent here as long as I need storage. These are clean units, fairly secure, and the staff is friendly. However, the building is, predictably, surrounded by a homeless encampment. Not the business's problem. What is their problem is wildly fluctuating rent prices, perpetual construction, and unreliable access. Rent: One month I Iooked at my bank account to find that I had been charged 75% more rent on my unit than the last month. Sure, I had been sent warnings of a rent increase, but the emails get buried in the endless sea of marketing crap they send you--eventually you stop reading anything from them. I didn't mind the increase, I was warned it happened occasionally, but the fact that it was nearly double what I had paid the month before was too much. Construction: As of October of 2022, the roads are completely torn up and covered in plates and the back gate is constantly being worked on. This has been consistent throughout the year I rented. It screws up traffic moving through the property, parking for the tenants, and can lead to long wait times getting in and out. Reliability: The last time I went to my unit, none of the gates worked. Everything was offline and there was no manual override. I waited with a line of other cars for nearly an hour just to get into the property. Add to this the bankers' hours they have chosen for their staff and the result is an overpriced storage unit that you probably cannot get access to when you really need it--only when Public Storage allows you and everything is functioning. If you're going to dump stuff in a storage unit and forget it, this place is fine, though expensive. If you ever need access to things in your storage unit with any sort of regularity, look elsewhere. The extra cost of a place with more reliable access will be worth it. read more

First time using this particular storage facility in venice. I have had a storage space for one week, having moved and needed to bring my belongings over several days. Each visit I have been disappointed that there are no carts available anywhere. Visited the office the last two times and they offer no hep. Today they said carts are a "courtesy". Terrible customer service. Not sure how they expect us to bring things upstairs through the elevator. No one seems to care. Workers sit inside office and don't want to help at all. Other facility in venice is way more concerned with customer service. Won't choose them next time. read more

Again. For the second time. They locked me in the location and it took me over two hours to get out because their gate system doesn't work. They have a digital box when you come in that shows the staff who is in the location and who has left. I was still in the location when all the staff took it upon themselves to just lock up and leave. Their excuse is ' we close at five, you should be out' Yes but what happens if you loose track of time? I don't have good phone signal once you are inside so I don't check it much when I'm focused trying to load in and out. If you are at a super market and it's time to go you get reminders, people ushering you out, helping you leave. I don't WANT to be staying late but there are no signs anywhere telling you the time, no clocks and the staffs KNEW I was still there my car was clearly parked, clearly still inside and they just LEFT. Locked me inside and left. The number they suggest calling for after hours doesn't work. No one was able to open the gates so my car and myself were locked inside for over two hours. Apparently managers mustn't be disturbed after hours so no one took responsibility and yet I'm stuck and this has happened TWICE. I get it's my fault for loosing track of time but how hard is it to just do a quick walk around and check no one's in especially when the computer clearly shows someone is still inside???? I mean that's crazy. *update *the manager calls me demanding what happened because he is annoyed that he has to deal with emails from his supervisor and police reports and tells me off . TELLS ME OFF What kind of operation is this? I DONT WANT TO BE LATE I wasn't trying to. I thought it closed at 6, like every other day. I have been there before where guys walk round checking to see if people have left or realize the time and remind everyone it's time to go .it takes a few minutes. How is it unheard of to think that if you are still in someone's location, and it's clearly shows up on the computer that you are still there, still shows on all the cameras that your car is parked there that you can't put two and two together and realize someone is still there. Why leave ???? We all make mistakes . There are no signs anywhere clearly saying the time, no warnings, no clocks, poor signal for phones so you can't check. Closing at 5 is so damn early but that's not the point. Please get better training. If this isnt a protocol for the staff then train them to do this or pay them more because customer service is awful. And then he puts the phone down on me! **update** Moving all my stuff to Extra Space Storage. They have hundreds of 5 star ratings. We're CHEAPER and open until 10pm amazing. I received an email and a letter that this facility was placing a lien on the contents of my storage unit, after my balance had been paid in full. I attempted to contact the property manager at the storage facility by phone several times and always got sent to voicemail. I left multiple voicemails with my contact information and explaining the situation, asking for a return phone call to clarify the situation. Not once have they bothered to reach out to me. No big deal, it's not like the contents of the unit are my dead mother's belongings and every family photo album that exists from my childhood. read more

My last PS was so horribly run, they where Constantly blaming clients for their poor business. I really like this place. Public storage has turned the local neighborhood into a dumpsite Their tenants are dumping in every day almost on the streets barbecue chairs motorized chairs nightstands vacuums paint insecticides and it goes on and e-waste computers TVs broken down motorized wheelchairs Bicycles and goes on I've experienced firsthand and had to move out for someone's storage unit next to mine urinating into mine not good Homeless rent Storage units in side & THEY let them LIVE IN THEM ,,,i've also had friends rent a storage space is there and they witnessed people living in the storage units also ,,,public storage is dumpster to pollute on our streets BRING property values down But the bottom line is they don't clean up after themselves they have no security guard for safety Would not recommend this place. read more

***Warning*** This place is less than exemplary service for a premium price. 1) Make this your last stop in shopping for units. The first day they quoted me $180 for my desired unit. They did warn me prices subject to change. But I couldn't sign on the dotted line until things were confirmed two days later. Two days later I show up. Price now $210. But really convenient to my home. OK did it anyway. But all of the sudden, a few days before six months, they say my next bill will be $252. I complained they didn't even give 30 days notice. They folded for a month. But new rate is now $252. They also said RATE INCREASES COULD HAPPEN ANY TIME! I would have thought only yearly. But no. ANYTIME. There are other places not to far away for less. To add insult to injury. In building 3, the rear elevator is down. Have to use the front which defeats the entire point why I chose the unit I did. IT HAS BEEN BROKEN 3+ MONTHS with no sign of a quick repair. The front office people are always gone showing a unit or on break. I had to wait 25 minutes for them to get a cart so I could carry my stuff the long way to my unit. I inquired as I returned my key for the cart about some type of compensation? Maybe a temporary rent reduction? Clerks were VERY argumentative and defensive. From my perspective. They have already raised my rent significantly in 6 months, on top of the increase from my original quote. So elevator isn't working near my unit, carts are hard to obtain, and I'm the jerk for asking for some form of positive compensation? After not saying anything the first two months the elevator was down? Do yourself a favor. Unless you rent a first floor access unit or only rarely get in your storage...DO NOT RENT HERE! I'm ready to sit with a protest sign and warn potential future renters. Maybe I'll at least help a few with this yelp post. Best of luck! I'm very interested in getting a class action lawsuit agains this place. If we have enough people willing to support we can aim to get some of our rental money back due to their contract violations. There are plenty of people who support this and enough photo and video evidence with time and date stamps to validate contract breaches! If more people post comments and mention they're infested, I can get this started. This place is hands down the WORST place you can store your stuff. I've been a customer on and off for 6 years simply due to location. If you have another option, take it, pay a little more and don't come here. 1. Staff not here during hours . Has happened on multiple occasion over the years. 2. When staff isn't here, you cannot rent a dolly (cart) to move large items. 3. Staff closes the gates and shuts down storage 30 min before scheduled shut down. Business hours say 6 pm. They will tell you they close the gates at 5:45 pm and the elevators stop working at 6 pm. We showed up yesterday after work at 5:25 pm and they told us they were closed. They RUDELY said they are shutting down completely at 5:45. We pointed to their sign on the gate showing that the facility closes at 6 and they shrugged and said today we are closing completely at 5:45 pm. VIOLATION OF CONTRACT 4. ELEVATORS DON'T WORK! Good luck getting your items when only 1 elevator at the far end of the property works and you have no cart to move your items. Three weekends in a row we have come here to pack and unpack camping gear and three weekends in a. Row we have not been able to due to only 1 elevator (HARDLY) working and getting stuck and being held up by others trying to load and unload. It took us 45 min to get someone to help us, and they had to reset the 1 working elevator so we could go up. If you want to come when the gates open you cannot get a dolly because the staff isn't here. CONSTANT BROKEN ELEVATORS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE RUDE STAFF They open and close when they want, consistently closing before 5:45 pm or the scheduled 6 pm. Opening at 8 am but staff arrives sometimes at 9, 9:30, or 10. You never know. BROKEN DOLLYS Homeless harassment when entering and exiting (They have their customers entering on the side of the building where skid row exists- see photos) SPARE YOURSELF AND GO ELSEWHERE. We are going to speak with our lawyer now over repeated violated contracts. I cannot believe this place still operates. read more

We had a wonderful experience with this facility until we moved out. For the most part everyone was friendly and helpful. Leasing the units was simple and without hassle. I have one big complaint: All of my clothing and fabric furniture smells like bug spray, really nasty. Corporate gave me the run around and finally sent me to the location manager who is just trying to do her job but could not help me either. We have moved 14 times in 35 years and I have never run across an issue like this nor have I ever been given such a blow off by a major corporation like Public Storage. No one can give me any information on the chemicals used or on cleaning my belongings. I'm not sue happy but someday they may be sorry for using harsh smelly chemicals around peoples belongings. Shame on you guys for not being current with a more natural approach to deterring bugs in your units. read more

This place is AWFUL and the awfulness runs all the way through to the corporate office. We had a unit on the second floor filled with heavy fitness equipment and when we stopped by to take inventory two days before a HUGE event, we discoveredtthat both of the elevators were broken. Turns out, they had broken two weeks beforehand and not even one email went out letting us know. The front desk employees had no answers and very little bandwidth for sympathy given there were many other unhappy customers faced with the same predicament. We were given numbers to corporate - Lucia and Matthew - and we called and left messages urgently to ensure that someone would come and fix the elevators the next day. When we weren't able to get through to anybody, the next day we returned to the front desk and were assured by one of the guys that Lucia would be calling us momentarily, so we left hopeful, expecting a call. Never receiving a call from her, we were forced at the last minute to hire movers to take all of the heavy equipment down two flights of concrete stairs. This was expensive, a huge stress and a time suck, and overall the laziness of the entire company is just ridiculous. You have your stuff in a unit so that 1) it is accessible and 2) you are able to get things in and out of it. Those aspects are INHERENT to the storage unit business - they are literally the only two things you have to provide. Flash forward to Monday. We receive a call from Lucia, who informs us that they won't be reimbursing us for the movers and that due to the fact that our stuff was technically still accessible, they don't really understand our problem and will not give us a refund for the month (which is the VERY least we would expect). It did not help that she also lied, saying she didn't see our calls because she doesn't work weekends (when actually, it was Thursday and Friday that we were in this craze). After finding out I had a legal background (I proceeded to tell her that I read the contract and that she was actually wrong), she hung up on me, saying they don't speak to attorneys. I tried to call back, and immediately got her voicemail. Literally wasn't going to sue, I have every right to explain our side of the story and the way that our contractual relationship works. The fact that we were hung up on is so not appreciated, just when you think the customer service can't get any worse! They could have spent $150 to make us go away and make amends. Now we actually might sue them because of this awful customer service experience. Long story short: We moved our stuff today to the Extra Space Storage on Venice. It is a little more expensive but everyone is so friendly, the units and facility is so much nicer and cleaner, plus the hours of access are 50% longer. I truly hope Public Storage goes out of business. read more

All employees have a poor attitude and are not helpful. Hours say they close at 6pm but they won't let you in past 5:30pm. The elevators don't work, and the buildings are filthy on the inside. CAVEAT EMPTOR - BUYER BEWARE After more than TWO YEARS of paying Public Storage on auto-pay, despite OVER 100% INCREASE IN MONTHLY RATE for the 5'x10' unit, I moved out of the unit at 10am on the first of December. When I went to the office to close the account, I was told they could not close it because I had a balance due of $190 for December. I asked why they could not prorate 30 days and they said it wasn't company policy, and that I should contact so-called "customer service." After doing so this morning, I am incensed. The so-called "customer service" rep flatly declared that Public Storage "does not prorate under any circumstances, across the board," which is patently rude and the opposite of "customer service." USE ANY STORAGE PROVIDER OTHER THAN PUBLIC STORAGE!!! Between their bait-and-switch "low introductory month" offers, nearly monthly rate increases, Reichstag-like policies and apparently complete absence of "customers" in their service, you would do better storing your stuff under a freeway overpass. read more

TERRIBLE. AVOID! I drive an hour across town and back to measure the space I reserved to be sure the shelves I have would fit before moving day. Although I arrived well before closing time, no one would help me. I was literally locked out. There were other people facing the same problem lined up at the gate honking their car horns to try to get someone's attention. Terrible scene. Finally, I saw an employee walking across the property and called for him to come help but he wouldn't open the gate or assist me in any way - even though they were still supposed to be open. Instead they expected me to spend another 2 hours driving there and back to return the next day? When moving day is scheduled the following day? They advertise office hours they don't honor.
