It's unfortunate because this is a nice storage facility. When I signed up for my storage unit it was $99 per month. It remained that way for the first 3 months. Then, without warning or notice, it was increased to almost $300 A MONTH. Absolutely ridiculous. immediately cancelled and went to a competing storage facility for a fraction of the price and a guarantee that rent won't increase ever. do yourself a favor and get a storage unit anywhere but extra space. read more

Closing at 4pm means closing at 4. I arrived at 345pm to do a drop off and he already closed access. It's 12/8 and whomever is working Sunday. I worked in the service industry and people got to order up until closing and we had to sit our happy asses there until they were finished with their drink and meal. You should make your hours to 330 or 3pm if that's the case but we are aware we are coming 15 minutes prior to close I could've been in and out in minutes was just doing a drop off and the dude said he didn't wanna get stuck there after 4pm. Don't have your hours be till 4pm then. You have no right to close before 4pm especially when people are paying $400 a month to access their storage. Love this company! I've been a huge fan of Extra Space since I first became a client 5 years ago in Santa Monica. I just moved into this Venice Blvd location to be closer to my new home, and I love the consistency of the staff's professionalism and helpfulness, and that the brand benchmarks cleanliness, safety, and security. Not gonna lie.... I bring my kids here to help me move stuff around, but I secretly just want them to learn how to keep our home as clean and organized as this place. I'm extremely thankful to Damien, who has walked me through my different options given my budget and circumstances, and he's come through each time. I also discovered that several friends and companies I work with also use this facility, so it's also become someone of a social stopover for me, where everybody knows your name. LARGE UNANNOUNCED RENT INCREASES IS A COMPANYWIDE POLICY AND TACTIC SO IT AFFECTS ALL LOCATIONS, NOT JUST THE ONE I RENTED FROM. Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. They will always use the same language: "From time to time customers may be subject to a rent increase due to the competitive blah blah blah." There's no "time to time" about it. They will IMMEDIATELY AND SUBSTANTIALLY GOUGE YOU after you sign up. This *IS* their business model. read more

Very aggravated. My 80 year old Mom rented a unit back in August. The price quoted and contract signed was 390 a month I believe. Without warning her card was charged 452.00 per month. Now she gets a notice that the charge will go up to 483.31 starting 2 days after Christmas. This company is taking advantage of citizens in the area who have been displaced due to current home sales and loss of rental properties due to covid who have no choice but to store their belongings. Many are seniors on fixed income or local families struggling to make ends meet. This company is gouging the little guy. The units are not getting better, their overhead has not increased yet they are taking full advantage of people in already dire straights. I am going on a search for a better deal for my senior Mom pronto!!! read more

Pricing of units is a scam. When we moved in we asked about the free month or the reduced rental and they said take the reduced rental if it's for long term so we did. They raised the rate after only six months and have done so continuously since and we never received any of their alleged "we mail notifications of rent increase by law" Why not also email this notice like everything else is? Because it is a scam! "Market value" is what they are going to rent my vacated unit for not the ridiculous price they've raised it to over the years. read more

I have been with Extra Space Storage in Venice for about 5 years and I love this place. Building is so clean inside out and all staff is very kind and helpful. Ricky and Damian are always there for the tenants asking us if we need anything. It's well lit in all the aisles and all units, I've moved my units several times so I know. There are many ventilation fans on the ceiling so air is nice and fresh, no sense of dusty feel at all. Besides those, I like the shiny surface of walkway thanks to them waxing it every month or so. Moved in about a week ago - so far very pleased. The facility is very clean and all units are made out of metal (turns out this is not the case in all ESS facilities). But the thing that really stands out in this location is the manager - Ricky, who has an exceptional customer service approach. Nice facility but poor service. The first month is free, so you'll pay only fees of $29 to move in. In my experience, the manager repeatedly insisted "just move in" and he would get the price down to match my budget. When I contacted him before the first month was over to see that he matched the price, he didn't remember and was unwilling to do anything to help. I have used the Marina branch for work, and I much prefer them. It's only a couple miles away, less expensive, and the staff is helpful. Go there! read more
