OK, so it's a Publix and that means things are pretty standardized, but what sets this location apart is that it has highly focused beach items available and really caters to its surroundings. That, plus the fact that it's a fairly new location with great parking made this my family's go-to during a beach vacation in Vilano Beach. Beyond what they have in stock, their customer service was great as we were searching for things off a list to stock our vacation rental. Everyone was smiling, friendly, and offering to go above and beyond and lead us to the item versus just saying "Aisle 6." We showed up just in time for the cannon firing. It wasn't as loud as I was expecting, but it was still cool to witness and I'm glad we caught it at the right time. Since we were visiting St. Augustine for 5 days, we had checked out the ground level of the fort (which was free) and then a couple days later, we went back and bought an America the Beautiful pass so we got the group paid for (plus we got a pass for the next year out of it). The Publix small yet it was very well equipped with all my necessities in food, drink, etc. I was able to purchase everything I wanted and got good deals on BOGO fresh fruit to enjoy during my stay at the Holiday Inn by it. Once you experience a Publix supermarket yourself, I am confident that you will understand how Publix has become such an iconic supermarket brand and has developed such a loyal customer base down here in the southeast. Publix has created a solid reputation by offering incredible customer service, great BOGO (buy one, get one free) deals, and we cannot forget their subs, which are affectionately known as "Pub Subs." Coming from New Jersey, a state known for their great subs, in a way, it hurts me to state that a supermarket has some of the best subs in the area. But it is also a 100% true statement. Publix subs are very good. My go-to sub is probably their Italian sub, which is truly a tasty offering. I also enjoy their roast beef and cheese sub. I would definitely recommend upgrading it by using Boar's Head meat. It is definitely worth the small upcharge. I would definitely recommend this particular Publix location or any Publix location for that matter and I give it five stars. read more

Publix never fails me, no matter what. I love the weekly BOGO's and how they display the sales in each store. The produce is always good and fresh. The bakery is always good for birthday cakes and general sweet treats, the Deli is great for dinner, hot wings and subs. The meat dept is the bomb. Great display of fresh meats to choose from. The Pharmacy is always fast and friendly. The Managers are always close by and visible. read more

I shop at this Vilano beach Publix 2 to 3 times per week. It is a phenomenal Publix. The shelves are always fully stocked. I rarely don't find an item that I need. Any employee that I call upon for help is always very polite and professional. I cannot give a five star review, however, as much as I would like to. My 5 star reviews are reserved only for exceptional shopping experiences. Customer service should not only entail polite and professional service but "customer connection". I don't feel connected to many of the staff, except for 5 employees there. I have been shopping at this store every week for three years and call each employee by their name with a smile. It's something I've done in customer service for 30 yrs. I greet Publix staff as I do my customers, with warmth and enthusiasm. But this is rarely initiated by Vilano Publix employees. I feel that this lack of engagement is not entirely the fault of the worker but the Publix corporate culture itself. Customer connection is taught from "the top down". Employee appreciation is taught from the top down as well. Perhaps cashiers and stockers would be more outgoing if Publix corporate taught and demonstrated this culture such as Chik-Fil-A does. And yes, I do give Chik-Fil-A 5 stars. read more

This Publix is located in St. Augustine over the bridge at Villano Beach. It is within a block from the public beach at Villano which makes it a great spot to refresh on your snacks and drinks when at the beach. They have good sales on the beer however the beer did seem a little inflated in price, but its to be expected being at the beach. The staff were all well groomed and very friendly. Needed help finding a few things and they stopped what they were doing to guide me through the store to find what I was looking for, now that is great customer service. Everything seemed well stocked and organized and most importantly clean clean clean. The produce all looked fresh and well rotated out. The cashier was super friendly, they did card me on my alcohol purchase, so they do a good job at their job and at making me feel young lol. All in all, if you need a grocery store while in St. Augustine or at Villano Beach, this is the place to go... (There is a Spirit store in the same lot adjacent to the Publix just fyi if your looking for some of the harder spirits) read more

There IS a Publix here and it's awesome. I can't believe someone gave this place 1-star just because they couldn't find it? It is located on Vilano beach, south of the Usina bridge, just off Vilano road. They opened in Spring 2012 I believe. Anyways, as is true of most Publix stores, this location is clean and convenient. Great customer service. It's a smaller location so they mostly have the necessities, they also have a variety of beach accessories, pharmacy, bakery, and the requisite deli with those famous Publix subs. My favorite feature that you don't find at every Publix is a self-serve trail mix/granola wall. read more

I go to this Publix seven days a week I have lived on Vilano for almost 30 years we always begged for a Publix finally we've got one the customer service is great all the people are wonderful but they have got to figure something out with their parking for the weekends as you can no longer drive on Vilano Beach I went there today and circled the parking lot for 20 minutes trying to find a spot this is simply unacceptable and management needs to have already addressed this issue once it is summertime this will be a daily occurrence as all the beach goers use the Publix parking lot instead because there is no other parking available Publix managers both local and Regional need to address this issue or start losing business to Winn-Dixie read more

I went to this Publix at Vilano Beach to buy a few things we needed for our camping trip. The first thing I must say is that their customer service is outstanding from their employees that work the aisles to their cashiers, to the manager himself. I was overwhelmed with how helpful each was in helping me find things I needed since I wasn't familiar with the store layout. The manager assisted me with several things taking me to the exact location to find what I needed. When I asked for a small ice bucket to fit in our motorhome frig...I forgot to bring...he went beyond. None was to be found. He surprised me with his creativity and asked me to follow him to the bakery. Hmm...he pointed to a carrot cake small block container and asked will that work? Yes!!!! He put on a hair net and went into the bakery and came back with the plastic container. He wouldn't accept a price for it and said enjoy. We improvised!!! WOW!!!! Next, I went to the deli and got some fried chicken, potato salad, and cole slaw. Finally, to check out and as the cashier is ringing up my purchases, she says this is a dinner pack and you get rolls. Do you want them? Okay...as she sends the bagger to go get them. She saved me $4.04!!!. The young girl brings them to me and suggested I give the cashier a customer reward which I did. She took all the groceries to my car and I thanked her for what she and everyone did!! On the way back to the camp resort, I thought how each one of these Publix employees went out of their way to make sure a customer was helped and assisted in everyway. We have had a condo in the area for decades and are now building our retirement home in Vilano. My husband goes to this store multiple times a day (really!) and we always are greeted by helpful personnel and great service. While it's not a huge store, it serves our needs very well. If you've been reading my reviews, and I don't know why you wouldn't be, you would know about my love of all things Publix. Winn-Dixie has some redeeming qualities, all the Food Lions are now closed, but Publix is far and away the best grocery store chain in the Sunshine State. Their customer service is absolutely beyond reproach, the deli RULES, and who doesn't love their ridiculous BOGO's every week? There had been talk about the new Publix opening on Vilano for years- and a few months ago it became reality. To be quite honest, I'm surprised I'm the first to add this Publix in and review it. I mean, the people on Vilano were CRAVING this and couldn't wait for it to happen. Publix delivered here and built a great store, and an awesome plaza to surround it. The entire plaza is brand new, and it just looks like Vilano Beach. Great architecture, and the plaza is warm and inviting. Plenty of parking, and lots of other restaurants and stores are close by, especially for the beachgoing folks. This Publix is a bit smaller than the majority of other stores in the area, but it's still packed with the great service, food, and groceries you'd expect. I don't really know what to point out about a grocery store- it's got everything you'd need. Since it's in close proximity to the beach, there's lots of supplies here in terms of sunscreen, coolers, BBQ equipment, and water toys, but also a great selection of everything else you'd expect. And you can't forget the deli. Publix deli subs are some of the best in town, if not the best. I challenge you to serve me a better Italian than a Boar's Head Italian on fresh baked white bread from Publix. Top it off with a Publix sweet tea (a gallon costs like 4 cents), and you've got yourself a fantastic lunch. In for dinner? Try the fried chicken. Or rotisserie. Or chicken strips with some macaroni salad. It's all good at the Publix deli. Only thing keeping this store from being 5 stars- it is a bit smaller, and there aren't a whole lot of registers here, so if you come during prime shopping hours, there could be a bit of a wait. There's still a massive selection of groceries, so you will find what you need, but it's not as expansive as other stores. Regardless, most people that shop here are tourists looking to stock up the condos or hotel rooms, so not a whole lot of people get grocery carts full of food, although you certainly could if you wanted. I know this is the place to shop for locals living on Vilano, and if you're visiting the beautiful old city of St. Augustine and staying in the Vilano area- make this Publix your go-to for any groceries you may need, and don't be afraid to ask for anything, you'd be amazed at how awesome customer service can be in this store.
