Went to dinner at La Covina on a Tuesday night. The service was great and I would give the service a 4 star. They were on top of everything. Even overheard us talk about an upcoming birthday and brought us out a 2 pieces of cake. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular. We started with the grilled octopus. Not as charred as I would prefer but ok. The puffed pastry escargot was pretty good. Never seen it done in 1 large pastry shell. Finished with the duck with rice, peas and carrots. Can't believe it took us this long to make it upstairs! Came here for the free wine tour - and we ended up doing the premier tasting on the second floor. It's $10 for two pours of their premier wine of either red or white. We opted the red route and loved each one (I forgot the names). Then we went upstairs and got a table for our family of seven. After spending four hours, it was well worth the price. We shared the short rib sliders, steak frites and Caesar salad. The kids got fries on the side. Their espresso martinis were different, with a marshmallow topper (honestly, this could have gone without). Their sangrias were very tasty. Then ordered a beer here and there. Our server was amazing! Holy sh***. This food was pure ART. We ordered the roasted oysters, piscato and chips, and the sea bass for the Mr. and lamb for the Mrs. I was floored. This is no normal resteraunt, the food melts in your mouth and every small detail is done with intention and care. Our waiter and the staff were accommodating, sweet and very knowledgeable. Even for being a busy time of year, the ambiance was relaxing and luxurious and comfortable. Perfectly matched to the food. This place is so beautiful! I'm in the love with the atmosphere. We had a reservation for dinner at 7, so until then we sat at their patio bar outside. Beautifully decorated, peaceful little corner of town, no loud traffic mowing through, and right on the water. The bar staff greeted us and explained their drinks to us, trying to get us the best drink suited to our taste. This was pleasant, and really helpful! We went inside for dinner and the staff were so sweet, attentive and polite. I didn't have to ask for anything! The food itself was impeccable. We started with the lobster bisque and the prosciutto and pomodoro salad. Both were outstanding, I have a newfound love for palm hearts! The lobster bisque was unlike anything I've had before, creamy and delectable. We then ordered our entrees, I got the tortellini and my partner got the chicken. Both were so fabulous! The tortellini had so many flavors in it, it was hard to get bored. The sauce that the chicken was served in was SO yum, I couldn't get enough of it. Chicken was cooked to perfection, super juicy. We paired our dinners with a house picked Chardonnay, and we were so pleased. We were celebrating my birthday, so at the end they brought us out a little birthday desert. I couldn't tell you what it was, but the flavor was so light and delicious. It was the perfect ending to our fabulous meal. Overall this place is amazing, the service is outstanding, we were there for hours and didn't feel like we were being rushed out. I had read about La Cocina and wanted to try it. What better time than my birthday. It's a good thing we went on a special occasion because La Cocina is definitely "special occasion" pricing. I'm pointing that out early in the review because IMO that puts it against Lama, Collage etc, as top local special occasion restaurants. However, the lack of ambience at La cocina, put it at a disadvantage compared to other high-end restaurants in Saint Augustine. Why don't they use the outdoor patio facing the sunset? It must be in their lease because it makes no sense. The restaurant layout Gives me the feeling that I'm in a lobby awaiting some far better experience happening beyond the walls. That said, we did have an excellent meal and great service. We started with a glass of house wine. All wines by the glass are from the San Sebastián winery which is below the restaurant. If you want something different you have to order a bottle. I'm not excited by that idea but again, it must be in their lease or partnership because why else would a restaurant agree to that? Our server, who was excellent but I can't remember her name!!!, suggested we start with the Menorcan salad. It's a watermelon salad with tomatoes, cucumbers and feta tossed in a datil pepper vinaigrette. I'm so glad we followed her advice because I'm still dreaming about that thing. I would come here for that salad alone! My main was the Filet Mignon which was perfectly cooked medium rare and crusted with a blue cheese and mushroom sauce that was not overly strong. It was a nice addition. Served with carrots and mash potatoes that were good but not as amazing as the filet. My husband had the Chilean Sea Bass that was also suggested by our server. Perfectly cooked and we loved the quinoa as well. Our server surprised me with a delicious happy birthday dessert that was on the house. Very nice of the restaurant to do that! I gave the rating of four stars because, while the meal and service were both excellent, the restaurant room it self needs to make changes. read more

The lobster bisque was outstanding and an absolute must-try. The peri peri chicken was also excellent--while it could have been a bit crisper, the flavors were truly delicious. The service was generally good, but they didn't come to refill our drinks until after we had finished eating, and I had to ask. Inside the restaurant, you don't really get the full golden hour light due to the enclosed nature of the venue. So walk outside if you want to see the view. Booked a reservation for a wine pairing dinner 2 months ago for Nov 4, 2025. I received a call canceling our reservation because they booked reservations OVER our existing reservation. They could not accommodate us in any way except for the day we are leaving. Obviously a 2 person bill is not as important to them above a party they booked afterwards. horrible customer service. Definitely check out the menu before going because you may have people in your party that would have a hard time selecting a dish. However overall the food was prepared well, flavorful and cooked how we order it. I recommend your try the octopus starter. It's was my favorite dish of the night. Their original restaurant was much better. The waitress in the new location came from the winery. She made it well known that this was just a paycheck, it was the only reason that she was waitressing. I wanted the Brie appetizer like I had had before. Was told we'd have to go to the patio to order and eat it out there. Could not bring it in. Personally I've never been in love with their food but go to make my husband happy as he love it and I love him. They need to send the waitress to waitress school. Her personality really does suck. We both had the Rack of Lamb. It was the ok. Old Inn & Restaurants is much better. After 8 years of coming to this restaurant at least twice a year WE WILL NOT be back!!!! Good luck! read more

We know La Cocina from when they were on the Island. With the move over to the winery, the only thing that transferred was the quality of the food. Everything else got left behind! Ambiance -noisy and very cold inside. When asked to warm up the room; response " ...doors are open and we need to keep it cold for the staff." Our main entree was Seafood Cazuela. The seafood was cooked perfectly. The combination of flavors of the seafood, cilantro, peas, and a very delicate coconut sauce was exquisite. No one item overpowered another; it was a perfectly balanced blend of flavors. We had a Brie appetizer that was a cut above with the apricot chutney and strawberries. I had read the reviews prior to our visit and several mentioned a server named George as a delight. We agree-he should open a school for servers, and we had great service from others who came to our table to fill waters or see if we needed anything. The restaurant is classy and comfortable and quiet enough that you can enjoy a conversation without raising your voice. We celebrated a birthday here and were disappointed by the quality and value. The one positive was the lobster bisque which was delicious. We asked the waitress for recommendations and she told us everything is good. We had the Korean beef which had zero sauce and was served with white rice. It was dry beef with plain white rice. The tortellini was a generous portion and very creamy but could have used more pasta for a pasta dish. The sea bass was a nice size as well and cooked well though could have used more flavoring. It mentioned a citrus salsa which was maybe a spoonful at most. The chocolate mousse was large enough for my two kids to enjoy though not very exciting. The coffee dessert was the worst description for an item. We got two bites of a puff pastry and lots of coffee flavored mousse. Glad we ordered two desserts because when we asked the waitress about dessert portions sizes, she was vague and not helpful. The above food plus two glasses of wine was over $200. The meal wasn't worth that much. The waitress was not useful at all given this was our first time here. We would not recommend this place. read more

My husband and I had a spectacular Christmas dinner at La Cocina while visiting St Augustine. They had a set menu for $50 per person, with two soup options, two salads, five entrees, and one dessert. We each started with one of the soups, both of which were delicious. I've never had churrasco soup before, but it's simply a creamed steak soup. The flavor was wonderful, as was the fantastically rich and creamy lobster bisque. We both had the seafood salad. It was a nice portion of thinly sliced cucumbers, chopped seafood mixed with light mayo, mashed avocado, and mixed greens. For our entrees, I had the lobster tail topped with crab, and my husband had the lamb chops. The lobster tail was larger than you usually get in this type of entree, and the crab was closest to imperial style. The flavors were wonderful, especially dipped in their wonderful scampi butter. The lobster was served with asparagus and mashed potatoes, which were made all the better by drizzling on some of that scampi butter. My husband's four lamb chops were small, but perfectly cooked. He also had mashed potatoes and asparagus as his sides. For our desert, they served a chocolate raspberry mouse cake. It was a nice sized portion, and a perfect complement to the meal. Service was impeccable, and each dish came out perfectly timed. Portions were slightly larger than expected, and we were both stuffed when finished. We were delighted with La Cocina's Christmas meal, and would highly recommend them! read more

What a lovely way to spend a Sunday. Took my son to brunch at a place neither of us have ever been to before. A great restaurant located inside of a nice looking hotel on St. Augustine Beach. The staff was super friendly and they worked together as a cohesive team. If was great to see even the manager refilling mimosa glasses. And if you needed more water another waitress would come by on her way from her own table to fill glasses at another table. The food and the mimosa were all you could eat and drink for 35.99 which waa not bad for what you got. Crab cakes, sauteed red potatoes, baked salmon with capers, paella with mussels, French toast with fresh fruit and caramel sauce and syrup, cinnamon buns, tirumasu, scrambled eggs, bacon, turkey bacon, crepes, avocado toast with a poached eggs, spring mix salad with pears, etc. I really enjoyed the whole experience and will be glad to take the hour drive back down to St. Augustine to have it again. They will be doing the brunch twice a month. They offer 25% to St. Augustine residences so please show your drivers license and ask for your discount and enjoy yourself. read more
