I had hopes for this place that ended in disappointment. Strange business practices with several red flags. I was referred to this business through my mother, who had been referred by the owner's sister. On 9/21, I called to inquire about grooming services after my original appointment with Furry Friends was canceled. During the call, I learned they also offered boarding, so I arranged for both grooming and boarding in mid-October. We had a 20-minute conversation where everything was confirmed, and she provided her personal number for me to send my pet's shot records. On 9/22, I called her again to confirm the grooming price since she had only given me the boarding fee and to ensure she received the shot records. She never returned my call. I followed up with the business on 9/23 and spoke to a man (likely her husband), who said she'd return my call, but she never did. I called again on 10/4, spoke to the same man, who said he would take a message. He called me back a minute later after forgetting my details and ensured she would call me. Still, no one called me back. On 10/8, I decided to stop by the business since phone communication seemed ineffective. The parking lot was empty, except for one truck, and no one appeared to be inside. I called the business number while standing outside, but no one answered. I then called Erika's personal number and left a message, which still hasn't been returned as of today, 10/10. The same man called me back shortly after, took another message, and promised a return call, but it never happened. read more

I have had four dogs going to "the puddle" since they opened. My first dog was a difficult animal, but Erica never thought he was difficult and always took care of him and let me board him as well. My next two dogs loved going to the pooch and playing and getting groomed. I'm quite disappointed with this business. This was our first dog grooming experience in Atlanta since moving here. I dropped my dog off and everything seemed fine, I let them know I did not want him shaved or anything just brushed, they acknowledged it and I went on my way. I called around the time they told me he'd be ready and the guy left me on hold and in the background I could hear everything. A customer was complaining that she asked them to shave her dog and they didn't, they kept going back and forth on it ALL WHILE HE HAD ME ON THE PHONE. When they were done talking he realized I was still on the phone and hung up. I called back and asked if my dog was ready and they said 20 minutes. I head back to the establishment and upon arrival I see there's dogs in the room on your left just free and playing with no supervision. When the guy came out to ask who my dog was and what his collar and leash looked like a dog ran out and jumped on me. I got my dog and paid, once we got in the car I saw THEY CUT HIS NAILS SO SHORT ON HIS RIGHT PAW THAT HE HAD BLOOD ON IT. They state they clean ears as well but my dogs ears were STILL DIRTY.To top it off, I asked them not to shave my dog but HIS SIDES OF HIS BODY WERE SHAVED BUT NOT THE MIDDLE TOP PART. I am always nervous when dropping Tucker off at a new groomer and Erica and her staff made me feel so comfortable from setting the appointment to when I picked him up. She made sure she knew what I was looking for and definitely delivered. When I dropped him off the morning of his appointment, the man who checked him in double checked with what I wanted for grooming and eased my anxiety. Since he is 9 and in his senior years I get nervous about his hips, but they let me know they are always careful and use two people to lift them in out of the tub. So that really put my mind at ease. Then Erica checked in with me a few hours later when they were halfway through to let me know he was doing well. That made me feel so comfortable! I can definitely tell that Erica and her staff love doing this for a living! Then when I picked him up she only had good things to say and he looked and felt amazing! Tucker is a very hairy dog and I mean I can't even imagine how big that fur pile must have been when blowing him out and brushing him. Dont let the first impression of the area fool you. The location is "up and coming" and worth the trip. The owner is great to work with. My dog weighs is only 6 pounds but she can be a handful when it comes to grooming, but she is always groomed exactly as I ask. They seem to care about my baby and I like that. At other groomers, the chain stores, it took eight hours to groom her and I felt like I was leading my dog to slaughter. Im so glad that I found this place. read more

We took our goldendoodle here a few months ago and I have never seen a more botched haircut in my life. While aesthetically unpleasing, my main concern was the razor burn she had all over her butt, neck, and head. It was like they took a razor down to skin on any place that required the slightest amount of brushing. She was bald down the back of her left leg... but not her right? Like a straight razor stripe. Two sqaures shaved to skin behind her ears, and a 2 inch difference in length between the left and right side of her face. A blind monkey could have done a better job. We usually get her groomed every month and we just took her back in (3.5 months later) because of how long it took for her hair to grow back-- that is how short she was. When we took her to the new groomer, they specifically asked who groomed her last because they were appalled at how botched and uneven her hair was, even 3.5 months later. On top of all of that, our doodle was so scared during our recent visit to the groomer and now has tremendous anxiety around going...somewhere she used to love to go. I had to pick her up during the first attempted visit back because she was so scared and timid that she kept relieving herself every time they would take her out of the cage. I picked her up and tried again the next day. Luckily, they were able to complete the service, but it took fighting her to get her to go back. Something SO unlike her before she ever visited Puddle of Pooch. I'm convinced that she not only go a horrible haircut, but had a traumatic experience in the process. I have no proof of this because there is no access to cameras, but what else would cause such a drastic change in a dogs personality and response to going to the groomer? Lastly, they told me she would be ready for pick up at 2:30pm and when I went to get her, we had to wait over an hour before they were done. Do not take your pet here! read more

My dog, Travis was a client of the owner, Erika at Puddle of Pooch from the very start when she first started grooming. Travis went to Puddle of Pooch for years for boarding & grooming, until we moved from Atlanta. He's been groomed many places since then, but no one has done as great of a job as at Puddle of Pooch. Travis has long hair which we have shaved into a puppy cut during the summer, and every inch of his body was always shaved immaculately. Nowhere else we've taken him can touch Erika's work. Erika is in this business because dogs are her passion and it shows - Travis adored her and he loved going there. I agree with the other reviews that this is a small "mom and pop" operation, but I think that's the beauty of it. It's a small business owned by the people who run it, who love dogs and are committed to making sure the dogs in their care are well groomed, cared for and happy. There are plenty of other large boarding and grooming places in Atlanta which are very good, but when we saw how our dog responded to those places compared to Puddle of Pooch, it was clear which one he preferred. read more

I'd easy give more stars if I could...Erika the owned is so great with dogs...ive moved to south ga and use to live right up the street from her...when its time for grooming we take the time to drive to Atlanta to still use puddle of pooch all the way from below newnan , about 70 miles one way....she treats her clients...(the dogs) as if they were all like her family, she speaks with them and plays with them and the dogs are always happy to see her.....the cuts that my dogs get are ALWAYS worth the price, and leave the dogs happy and cool. They are never afraid to go here and feel special when they leave here....it took about 4 other groomers before I got d Erika...other groomers treated my dogs like they were numbers , Puddle of Pooch and Erika treat both my pups like they are family. I've never got a bad cut in the several years we've been going there... I used one groomer that wasn't her one time after thr move once, and only once, ...after that it was like, drive to Atlanta. I was scared pulling into the place and terrified of leaving my westie there for a simple bath for fear of him being abducted and sold or something. The person that checked me in didn't even ask for my phone number or dogs name!! And I swear I saw a crying puppy jumping against the glass as I walked in. However, after I picked him up he was clean happy and looked great. The bath was $35+ tip which for Atlanta is a little overpriced IMHO. I waited over a week to write this review. I did this so I would be more calm and to give Erica a chance to return my phone call that I was not pleased. She never did return my call. First let me start with that Erica, the owner, is a very pleasant and charming woman. This is my second time using Erica. The first time was several months ago on a busy Saturday. Jake is a wheaten terrier who is well behaved and 13 years old. I showed her pictures of how he was groomed before and she did excellent job even though he was somewhat matted. This time I left Jake off midweek at 7:45 AM. They told me that they would call when he was done. At 2:00 PM she called and said that his legs were matted and she would have to cut them short. Over 2 hours later I still hadn't heard back so I called her. She was surprised at the time and said she wasn't finished but would be in 1/2 an hour. I asked if she was so busy and she mentioned that her assistant was off for the week. I picked up Jake an hour later to find him totally shaved, legs, body, scalp and most of his face too. If you know wheaten terriers you know that they have a "goatee " and long hair on top. I was horrified especially since she did such a great job before when he was more matted. I then asked why she cut the top of his head (it wasn't matted) and she said that she forgot. She then said it is only hair and it will grow back. I still cannot understand why she shaved his scalp and face if his legs were matted. He now looks like a small yellow lab mix. I can only assume that she was too rushed to even try to do a decent job and took the easy way out or she is incompetent and last time her assistant groomed Jake. I truly believe it is the former. Either way this is by far the worst haircut he has ever had in his 13 years. They say The difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is two weeks. Well it's been two weeks and he still looks horrible. It will take several months for his to grow enough to be re-groomed so he resembles a terrier. Even then it will be very short. Everyone who knows Jake including the daycare and close friends comment that this is the worst haircut he has ever received. She should be ashamed of her work. read more

I told myself I was not going to write a review but it is the next day and I am still distraught by the haircut my 9 month old toy poodle received here. Erika was very sweet and she was recommended to me by a nice couple in CVS. We discussed the type of cut my dog was to receive in detail the day before. After I dropped off my dog I noticed they did not ask me things I was use to groomers asking like my phone number, color of hair bow, etc. I called that morning to relay the information. Upon picking up my dog she looked absolutely hideous, I wanted to cry. We are having guest this week and this groom was to make her presentable and I am embarrassed. Erika explained that my puppy had matted hair on the legs and could not perform the cut we discussed but did not contact me so I could approve the next steps. However, not only were the legs cut she has no hair period and her ears are completely bald. I brushed her thoroughly the night before and she was not matted to the point that now she has to look like a rat. She has always gone to previous groomers in the same condition. Best place in Atlanta. We have two dogs and this is their second time staying over night there. The owners are amazing. They make you feel so comfortable leaving your fur-babies in their care. Since I'm out of the country I have family calling checking on them every few days. They couldn't be any nicer and caring for my two dogs. They really treat your dogs like it's their own and it doesn't feel like the usual kennel you see elsewhere in Atlanta. . Doggy daycare. We have a hyper vizsla that goes there once a week to burn some energy. When he gets home he's exhausted from playing all day. I recently moved to the Atlanta area and was looking for a groomer for my dog. Puddle of pooch is not bad but I don't think it is for me. I dropped my dog off and it was a very odd experience I'm used to being able to openly talk about the cut I'd like but the women who came to the front to get my dog was hard to talk to we didn't seem to be on the same page and once I saw my dog at pickup time my instinct was right. First I was given the wrong dog this was not a huge problem but did upset me a tiny bit, but once I got my dog I wasn't happy with his cut. I asked for half and a lot more than half was cut, his rear was shaved and is now beginning to rash, because he drags his end I assume since its so short it must itch. The tail was only brushed so with his short cut his tail looked terrible as well as his face they just didn't match. I ended up cutting his tail myself but am to afraid to attempt the ears. I also didn't have a chance to talk with the groomer which I am not used to normally I drop him off and then at pick up I'm told what was done sometimes helps explain if its not the cut I had wanted. IDK the price for the way he looks and my satisfaction isn't ideal but I guess you live and learn. I would recommend coming here but be specific as to what you want and if you have an odd feeling listen to your gut. read more

I've been to my fair share of groomers and boarding places and this was one of my favorites. Erika and Bill are AWESOME! There are a lot of fakes in this business and people who just tell you what you want to hear, but Erika is one of the realest people I've ever met. Her passion for animals just shines throughout her. I've been to a facility where no one stayed overnight with the dogs and that made me very uncomfortable. But at Puddle of Pooch, they live right next door so you know that your babies are always in good hands, and that just proves to me that they really love what they do and genuinely care about the animals. I've seen a couple reviews about unhappy grooms, which is completely normal, because you can't please everyone. but when it comes to something like that you have to really look at both sides. If you don't take care of your babies coat, and don't put in the work that needs to be done, groomers are not magicians! Many breeds coats are very high maintenance and take a lot of work and effort to keep them "cute and fluffy" like many of us want. And if my baby has ever needed a clip different than what I requested, Erika makes SURE to call me before she does ANYTHING and first ask if I'd be OK with going a little shorter or doing something a little different, and that to me is a very big deal. SO, if you haven't tried Puddle of Pooch, or you're thinking about it, I really and truly suggest giving them a shot. They're prices are very reasonable and I gaurentee Erika will have you from your first conversation. She's just one of those people you can't help but become friends with and I hate to be away from my baby, but if I have to, those are the kind of people I want to leave him with-a friend that loves dogs and that you know will treat them like their own! read more

Such a huge let down. If I could give negative stars I would. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was very pleasant. But unfortunately, it ended up being a disaster. I left my dog for 4 days. He was severely dehydrated & the food we portioned out for him was withheld so he missed 2 meals. He had an accident in his cage the night before I picked him up. When I arrived he was covered in his own feces & visibly distraught. He had blood in his stool from the dehydration & wouldn't stop shaking & whimpering for the 35 minute drive home. I have been taking my dog to Puddle of Pooch for boarding for approximately the last 5 years and I love it. Though I can't say my dog likes it when I leave her, she seems excited when I take her there. She loves the staff! Erica and Bill are great and both have a great love of dogs. The place is clean. My dog has never gotten kennel cough there. I don't have to worry about my leaving my dog there as I know she will be well taken care of. It is a "mom and pop" place but I like that because I know some teenager who is more interested in talking on the phone rather than watching the dogs will not be working there. This is a "doggie daycare" type of facility where the dogs are allowed to play in out in open areas and are not kept in a cage all day. Erika and her crew have been taking care of my dogs for years now and she always has their best interests in mind. A co-worker referred me to Puddle of Pooch years ago and I would not take my Old English Sheepdog anywhere else for grooming, they do a wonderful job. I drive from Decatur to Midtown which is not an easy feat but the service and care I get at Puddle of Pooch makes it worth it. What stands out the most is all their clients are treated like family. We use Erika for boarding and daycare as well.
