I stayed in the men's version of the Puente House in 2014, I can't find an address for it online, this house is the closest reference I can find and it's run by the same people. First off I would like to point out a fun fact, that the man who introduced me to Puente and read paperwork with me, couldn't read, it was pathetic. I guess he finally had a job where he served a purpose, but at least get someone else to read paperwork on the first day! So this illiterate moron took my phone away, because you know, you might use your phone to call your drug dealer, right? But they let you have a laptop, where you totally cant access your contacts and call them through Google Hangouts, nope that's not going to happen at all, your laptop is totally safe, you're not going to pop onto Facebook and message anyone at all to deliver you some delicious drugs, not with a laptop! So yeah, you cant sit in the living room on your phone, you can only watch TV for an hour during the day, and an hour during the night, something like that, all that time in between you can totally hang out outside and smoke cigarettes. Of course you go to meetings, three a day I think, and you can smoke even more cigarettes there. Basically if you want tobacco dependency you should go to Puente, because that's all there is to do. I guess they expect you to do your steps or something, and the best place to do them is surrounded by pigs. And by pigs I mean macho-punk misogynists who make rape jokes whenever a woman shows up on TV, or walks down the sidewalk. The guy sleeping in the bunk under me let me use his laptop before I had mine, and one of his search results in his browser was "forced anal rape violent porn," made me feel very at ease. I didn't have the chance to look at anyone else's browser histories, but they all talked about women the same way this guy did so, I'll take the safe route with my assumptions here. The house had plenty of skater punks who were rude and unpleasant, one set his alarm for the morning but refused to turn it off, just let it ring forever. I guess they talked one of the members into driving them to a library, where they scored weed, failed their urine tests and got kicked out, so that was a relief (that guy did the morning alarm thing more often than not), but the driver got all of his rights stripped from him and the lead of the house told him "everyone who comes near you relapses!" So, this is a place you're supposed to go to for recovery. Drugs and alcohol primarily, but after you're sober the recovery process is psychological. Imagine being told that your presence is destructive to everyone around you. Why stay? Why go home? Why go anywhere? Yeah, I don't think these people are licensed professionals. I think they're a bunch of alumni who think treating addicts like minimum-security prisoners is "for their own good". Because I've heard them say it plenty of times, that these trash methods are "to keep you sober!" Nah I think empathy and sensitivity are more important for sobriety, and these people don't function like that, they're brutes using old-school authoritarian Boomer methods of psychological therapy, think "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" Nurse Ratched but with a bunch of men. A Sober Living facility is probably fine for when you don't really have a home to go back to, if your family or living situation is toxic and need to be away from it in order to recover. But these places, even legitimate rehab facilities, will try to convince you that EVERY addict needs to stay at one of these after your 28 days, "for your own good." There was no reason for me to live in this trash-heap, they basically took our money and then dropped me into a simulation of what it would be like to live with toxic cishetero macho thugs, which I guess might be the reality if I were to sink deeper into addiction, but it's not a simulation worth $600 and the experience here was damn near close to sending me into another relapse, so there was nothing to be gained in this. After two weeks I demanded my phone in order to call my parents to get me the hell back home, where I was far better off. This did not go over well with other residents, claiming that I was better off at home than imprisoned at this dump. They were mean about it, of course, remember these are the same people who told another resident that everyone who comes near them RELAPSES! read more

Reviews that were previously posted depicting Karl Morris' (the owner) true colors have been removed. Not only was there a covid outbreak in the women's house affecting more than half the women living there, just 10 days after the last positive test was received, Karl required the women to volunteer wrapping gifts at the 502 Club for his annual charity work. Some women were still showing symptoms & had not received a negative test before attending this event. So Karl organized this event fully aware that he could potentially infect innocent families with children when they received presents that were wrapped and handed out by potentially still covid positive carriers. These are facts and in no way an attempt to "tarnish" this man's reputation. However this is a prime example of why the pandemic has continued to spread rapidly in the United States. Karl Morris is only concerned with his reputation and the face of puente house. The way his residents are treated by him and his house managers could use a lot of work. The decision to continue the toy drive despite a world wide pandemic and the recent outbreak in his homes was selfish and only benefited his reputation to show the community his "good deeds". If it weren't for Puente House I would not have over 8 years of sobriety today. When I walked into the office for the first time my family and I met with the owner and the manager. I was spoken to and treated with dignity and respect, something that I was not used to living the way I was living at the time. The house was clean, well maintained and orderly. I was always impressed with how quickly matters were addressed and how everyone worked together to make sure a clean and safe living environment was maintained for all. I remember one time a pipe broke and caused a pretty serious plumbing issue. It was addressed immediately and fixed in a couple of hours. Staff was always friendly and approachable, often sitting in the backyard talking with the residents. Today, I am still friends with most of the managers I had back then. Being 8 years sober and living the life I live today, I am often approached by friends and friends of family members who need to help a loved one with addiction. I always send them to Puente House. If there were more stars available, I'd give them all to Puente House. Beautifully maintained structured sober living that should be the standard for any facility. Karl truly cares about the residents at each home. The amount of communication between staff and residents is impeccable and shows they truly care. I personally opened my own women's sober living in another city and am lucky to refer to Karl as a mentor of how it should be done. Endless amounts of love and support are poured into each resident of the Puente House Family and it is evident that the residents there feel it! I went into puente house after being thoroughly mangled by my disease. Everything was so foggy and painful. My life was in ruins. Puente house had an opening and I went. I stayed there for about 9 months. And in the 9 months, I experienced the program of AA through the program puente house runs. I learned structure and disipline, I had an amazing experience there, I had some real RECOVERY under my belt. Puente house saved my life. Puente house is a cornerstone for recovery and a great example of how a sober living should be run. All the staff are professional and knowledgeable and backed with the life experience needed. Puente House 202 absolutely the best Sober Living for woman. The house is beautiful and it equips woman with encouragement, accountability and the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. This place gives woman all of the things they have lost in the fog of addiction. If you do what the Puente House says to do you will have your kids back , your family back your job back and your Sobriety wrapped right in recovery. Owner (K Morris) and management are hands on . Puente House is an amazing place. It is a cornerstone in the recovery community. The management is top-notch and sets an example of what it means to live by spiritual principles. Having spent a year and a half at Puente House, my life has taken on new meaning. Hope has reentered my life and I have optimism with respect to my future. I am a sober member for almost 20 years in the recovery community. Puente House is where I started on that journey. I was actively involved, first as a resident, then staff for 5 years. Puente Houses are some of the most beautiful, well-kept, organized, well run sober homes I have ever been to. Karl (the owner) is a narcissist. Without a doubt he provides a safe place for men and women struggling with addiction- a wonderful cause. However, at the end of the day, each resident is a dollar sign to this man. He lacks compassion and empathy. Karl's style in running the homes resembles dictatorship.
