FRESH and Delicious! They made our guacamole with two avocados at our table. The Spicy Margarita was excellent- good mix of flavors, not too spicy, just right! Fajita Quesadilla was filled with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, grilled chicken, and cheese - very tasty with pico de gallo and guacamole. Chicken Enchilada filled with lots of chicken and cheese. The plate came with beans and rice. Our Server was personable and checked on us several times. This restaurant is great for families and friends - lots of tables, great Mexican music. Our server Miguel was fantastic and the food was delicious! Coming from New York where we have access to some of the most authentic dishes, I have to say I was very pleased with the food portions and taste of the dishes. We had the chef Armando Fajitas and the fish tacos accompanied by their home made hot sauce The food portions are large and well worth the price. We had such a nice dining experience here for lunch and look forward to visiting again if we're in the Southington area. The one disappointment was their women's bathroom which was a bit disgusting for me. The bathroom door stall for one of the toilets had chewed up gum stuck to the door and overall look was dirty and unkept. I always feel that if you are serving food as a place of business, these areas should be appealing to your diners. I didn't feel clean being in the bathroom. Suggestion to management would be to spend a couple hundred of dollars and spruce up the bathroom bathrooms. Don't order from the specials! Went there with my wife. We have gone here a bunch of times before, usually sharing an order of fajitas with an appetizer in a couple of drinks. This time my wife took a liking to one of the specials. We ordered that an appetizer of plantains and 2 glasses of wine. There was no pico to Gallo on the dish, and when I asked the waiter to bring some, he charged me extra for a side order of pico de gallo. No warm tortillas or any tortillas were included. The bill came in at $68, I realized that the special menus didn't have prices on them. I asked the waiter specifically about some of the dishes which range from $23-$29. Ours cost $48! It was a bunch of shrimps grilled steak strips and six small tortilla chicken snacks. Steak fajitas for comparison or $29. Since no prices were on the specials menu, I had assumed that they would be in range of normal entrées. Very surprised and disappointed from an otherwise good place. Not pleased with the changes to this Puerto Vallarta location, and I really hope the others do not follow suit. This used to be, for a very longtime, my go to place with friends and family. Literally have been going there for years, since they opened. On my most recent visit a couple of weeks ago- there were some changes. Candles on tables- alright, whatever. However - no chips and salsa. Some awful flat tortilla thing. When asked for chips and salsa- were told I have to buy queso. That's- a thing. The chips and salsa, as silly as it may be, was a highlight of this restaurant. So, yeah. Friend and I ordered our usual house margarita. Didn't get the large, cause i don't like the ice melting. Expected normal sized margarita- instead, came this drink, not strong, in literally what looked like ( and was the same size as) a kids juice glass. And it was like- a mix or something?! Not at all the same high quality margarita. It was gone in about 3 sips. The dinners- left a lot to be desired. They are smaller and the variety on the menus isn't there anymore. However- the bill. It was literally double what we paid before. If not double, significantly more, especially on the awful drinks. And the chips that we now have to buy- and btw did not get refilled, or offered to get refilled. The drinks I think are the same price if not slightly more, for literally half of the margarita you used to get. Then they made me pay with that machine. No thanks. I gave my card to the waiter, saying I do t want to use the machine, and he literally still used the machine standing there. When asked about the security of these machines, he didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Honestly- I am sad to say we will not be returning, after going for about 20 years to a place that we always enjoyed. There's a place further down the street that has been around longer, we will go there next time. I hope they go back to the way they were - but I doubt it. I ordered the Siete Mares (see my picture from the menu) Menu says: Traditional Mexican seafood broth with shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops, octopus and crab claws, served with fresh vegetables. What I got was a soup. One claw, 3 shrimp, 1 Scallop. The broth was the color of coffee and everything was "underwater" I had to fish the claw out and let the soup drain out of it before I could crack it open. Flavor was meh. This is one of those excellent chain restaurants that is comfortably predictable. You walk in and there's festive decor everywhere. Lively ethnic music can be heard throughout the restaurant. Your table gets free chips and salsa while you wait for your food. I had a delicious black bean soup, which was huge and nutritious. It had real queso Blanco crumbles on top. My only complaint is the price of the drinks (holy guacamole). We paid $14 a piece for a medium sized margarita. It wasn't nearly as big as hoped for and they use midshelf tequila. read more

Came here for a birthday on Cinco DeMayo. wanted to make resv's but when i called they said " it's cinco de mayo!" i said i know! i cant help that it's her birthday!" so we had to get there extra early and not counting on the fantastic weather it was mobbed by 4:30. these poor servers were hightailing it and trying best to keep up. i wouldve needed a sedative to deal with this crowd, but all the servers seemed to take it in stride. I've been here often, at least 8 or 9 times per year. Portions are ample & the quality of the food is very,very consistant and pictures on menu are accurate. Ive been here for several birthdays as well and they always knock themselves out and make it very festive. Its getting to be our go to for birthdays. Only suggestion to patrons. Be aware of slight language barrier. Last 2 times member of party asked for chicken enchiladas with no cheese and both separate times came as all cheese no chicken. They corrected right away. Chips tasted like they were cooked a day or two ago. My son ordered a chicken burger and my daughter a cheeseburger. We were thinking the chicken was a ground chicken patty. No ! This location is a very nice spot the food was delicious besides the little hair in our coconut shrimp. Our server was very good and nice about the incident and offered us something different. I just asked to take it off the bill. She handled the situation very well. My family finds lots of my hair in food at home from me but in a restaurant its not appetizing. Fantastic Mexican food. We came as a group after work and shared Nachos, Mexican chicken quesadillas, beef quesadillas (the only thing that was a bit greasy), and table-side guacamole which was worth the visit alone! The guacamole was fantastic! The margaritas were in giant goblets and we tried frozen, on the rocks, and skinny and they were all mixed perfectly and delicious. Our server was attentive, and while the bill was not cheap it was worth the price for the food. I would return again for sure, as an aside on the walks are very cool hand painted sugar skulls and such that are a very nice touch. read more

"Comida Deliciosa" When someone mentions mexican cuisine, the first place that comes to mind is Puerto Vallarta Restaurant. All the other mexican restaurants that I've been to pale in comparison. I've even been to a mexican restaurant in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Which is over the boarder or Mexico and it wasn't this good. Four of us went last weekend. My wife began with a traditional margarita light on the salt. I had a Perfect Patron Margarita. Our friend had a cerveza. And my sister-in-law had a soda. My margarita was huge and excellent. Chips and fresh salsa were brought to our table and then my sister-in-law asked for table side quacamole. Fresh avocados, jalapeno, onion, tomato, cilantro and fresh lime juice mashed to the perfect consistency and served with tortilla chips. Delicious ! I love the Sopa de Albondigas. Mexican soup with fresh minted beef and pork meatballs, vegetables in a clear broth with diced onion, fresh mint and oregano. My wife had the steak fajitas for dinner. Marinated steak served sizzling hot over a bed of sauteed onions and peppers with a side of rice, beans, quacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Served with warm tortillas. I had the Pierna de Puerco. Grilled marinated pork loin served on a bed of sauteed onions, jalapeno, and mexican potatoes. Served with rice, beans, quacamole, sour cream and warm tortillas. I love everything spicy so I always ask for the homemade hot sauces on the side. Everything was delicious. We ended our meals by indulging in their two tre leches cakes. Comida deliciosa ! read more

When I went to pick up the order 10 minutes after it should have been ready, they did not have my food ready (they claimed the fax machine was out of order). I have a severe allergy to onions, something I made as clear as possible in both my online and in person order, so when I got home after 45 minutes of waiting in the parking lot, I discovered that there were onions all over the place in my food. This is a regional chain, but it's excellent. I've visited this particular location twice, both times after having visited Lake Compounce. First time we decided to have the tableside guac - they do a great job. There's a LOT of guac to eat, so bring an appetite and at least 3 people! Both times I've been here I've had their wet burritos, which I really love. They do as good a job on them as places I've been in California. Lee also has had the burritos both times we visited. Again - bring an appetite, they're HUGE! My mom, when she visited with us, had the coconut shrimp, which she very much enjoyed. They also have pretty big drinks, which are tasty as well. We ordered the lamb, he thought we wanted the pork We asked for hot salsa, he said sure, disappeared. 20 minutes later my spouse went in to check on our food---no, not forgotten, just slow. 30 minutes later, the guacamole and chiccarones came out, not table side, no heat. the manager came to check on us, 45 minutes after we had ordered. We let him know the guacamole was bland, we still wanted hot salsa. Oh, had you ordered anything else? Yes, the lamb. Can you check on it? I'm sure it was put in. Can you please check on it? Let's just say it didn't improve. Omar came out to get the orders for the next table. My spouse had gone for a walk. I complained. I asked when our food might be ready. Another 10 minutes or so. The manager returned--I asked for our check--one more minute. 5 minuted later, my spouse returned, livid. I told him to cancel and get the check. He went inside. The manager offered to comp it all, no, we will pay for the food. The guacamole, chips, & hot salsa are really good, and the manager is trying his best. We ordered three entrees and all three orders were incorrect when we got home. Ordered enchiladas with shredded beed, got ground instead. Ordered steak fajitas, they forget to pack the tortillas. Ordered roast pork, got another order of steak fajitas. A hat trick. It's so bad at this point, we don't even bother ever ordering dessert, as we know they'll always throw in a free one as a consolation for messing something up. I guess that's a plus? I kindly informed my waiter after only taking 1 bite and he argued that I said I wanted a burrito verde (or something) and not the Burrito Vallarta. I know I wanted the Burrito Vallarta because it was what I ordered the first time I ever came here back at the end of January. He argued back and forth 3 times with me before finally offering to fix the mistake. Totally unacceptable behavior. We came here later on a Tuesday night. A lot of the restaurants in the area were closing so it made our choice pretty easy as to where to go. Puerto Vallarta is open until 10:30 on Tuesday in April of 2023. There weren't many customers which made it relaxed and I think we got service from pretty much all of the staff! They all seemed to tag-team. The food was absolutely delicious. I got a combo platter which was on the back of the menu. You get a choice of 1-3 items. I wanted leftovers, so I got the "Texas" combo which was 3 with beans and rice. I chose the ground beef burrito (has red sauce and cheese on it, not a handheld), an enchilada (cheese) and a tamale (spinach!) Sorry no picture, I was so hungry, I ate a third of the plate before realizing I didn't take a picture! My food was absolutely delicious! Hubby got a steak quesadilla, he said it was SO good!!Even though I was stuffed, I HAD to order dessert and my hubby stated before ordering "No sharing!!" I usually take 2-3 bites of his dessert and my curiosity is filled. But now I had to eat an entire one on top of a full stomach?? So glad, now. I got the churros. Totally different than what I expected. Not just crispy cinnamon pieces, but heavenly creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside with 3 sauces to dip them in. Never coming back! Our main reason for not going with our original plans and instead go into Puerto Vallarta was for the Calamari that our TASTE BUDS had such great experience with in the past at the Berlin turnpike location. The wait was 20 minutes. Wasn't bad. I was impressed with the art work on the walls. The girls in the front were nice. We get seated and this is where it turns bad. We start off by ordering the Calamari. The main event. Woooohooo. Several minutes later the Calarmari show up. First of all, the amount of Calamari were way less then what we had at the Berlin turnpike location. Star ONE: I eat two squids and one or two Calamari but it wasn't until that second one that My wife pointed out the "funny" taste. She was right. They didn't taste fresh and possible on the old or outdated side. We call ROSARIO and tell her that our Calamari doesn't taste good or fresh and she says, "oh um, i don't know what I can do for you". My wife and I look at each other and thought, "um, you can take this away. We don't want it. It's nasty." Star TWO: I ordered the meal that allows me to pick a small app and a dessert. When ROSARIO returned I asked for the Mini Ceviche and she gave me a dumbfounded look. And said, "oh i put in the meal already" ((pause)) and I'm thinking, "ok, can you put my Ceviche in please"...it took a long awkward moment to get her to comprehend this "complexity". She finally got the idea of putting that part of my order in. She said it will come after the meal and I said that would be fine. Couple of minutes later both of them came together. Meanwhile my son's meal hasn't arrived. We had to remind the waitress that our son's meal is missing. He wouldn't eat our food so he was on our phone for about 5 minutes before his meal came. And it came WARM. Not like it was fresh and straight out of the oven. When I was done, I ordered my dessert which was the next thing I was looking fwd to. I didn't need a menu to see my options cause My wife pointed out while we waited that they had FLAN. So i ordered: FLAN...out of alllll the dessert, FLAN was the only dessert they did NOT have. Total bummer. She went through the list of dessert and I didn't even bother to listen. My wife made the selection to what she was offering. Keep in mind this was about 6pm in the evening. Not even late in the evening where one would expect Flan to have ran out. Star THREE: We get the bill and Calamari was STILL on the Check. ((Thumbs down)) Star FOUR: When i call The waitress over and tell her why is the Calamari still on our Check she states, "I spoke to the manager and he said that if you were able to return the plate right away that he could have taken it out" and I look at her dumbfounded and tell her, "why would I return a plate I know nothing about. I have to eat it to find out if it's worth eating or not and in this case. The Calamari were horrible. That was the point of telling you and for you to take it away, but I would love to speak to your manager. Bring him over" IMMEDIATELY she said, "I'll remove it, let me see what I can do for you." We went to Puerto Vallarta a few months ago and then again recently. Our first visit was unremarkable and the second was awful. I ordered the Camarones Del Diablo which should be shrimp in a spicy salsa sauce. I have no doubt that they replaced the salsa with cocktail sauce... with hot spices added. I've had this dish before MANY other places as well as at home. Their version was overwhelmingly sweet and unpalatable. My girlfriend ordered beef and chicken fajitas (one of her favorite dishes) and was disappointed. It was a little bland and the meat was stringy. The service was lacking, and at one point we felt the waiter was very rude. On our first visit, I had distinctly ordered a medium margarita and was served a large. I had inquired about the sizes and prices on the second visit. This seemed to irritate the waiter (as if smaller drinks mean smaller tips). What was supposed to be a special occasion for us made us wish we picked a different venue that evening. I doubt we will be back. read more

I love Puerto Vallarta food! This specific visit was for a quick lunch. Our server was very attentive and service was quick. We were able to get back to work within the hour. It was fantastic. I ordered the Dos Enchiladas which came with beans and rice. It was a very generous amount of food for being off of the lunch menu. Great price, too; only $8. I think I probably over-rated this place the last time around. There just aren't that many options in the area. Went here again tonight and it was just OK. I think the quality of the beans isn't that great and that's probably what brings the flavor down overall. That and I didn't like the enchilada sauce's flavor.
