Screwing around in Southington today, I stopped at Saint's to fulfill my hotdog craving Saints was busy with the lunch crowd this Saturday! I ordered the hotdog 10 inch, with mustard, onion, and sauce, in order of onion rings and a Pepsi. After a little bit of a wait because of the lunch rush, my order arrived, and I dug in! The hotdog so flavorful with a snap upon my first bite, and was brilliantly cooked on the flat top, stuffed inside a perfectly grilled New England style hotdog roll. The char on the outside of the roll was a masterpiece. The meat sauce was perfect, with a kind of gravy texture, just the right amount of flavor, one of the best hotdog sauces in my opinion for Connecticut. The white onions accompanied this masterpiece placed upon the hotdog and the yellow mustard. This has to be one of the most perfect hotdogs with toppings in Connecticut. I love coming here for their hotdog. This 10 inch was priced at I think $4.59 with the mustard onion and sauce. I think that's a pretty good deal. The onion rings were restaurant supply chain delivered type I think. They didn't look like they were homemade. They were crispy, but not seasoned. After a little bit of salt, I still didn't like the flavor that much so I added ketchup, which I never do. And the flavor came through. All washed down with a perfect Pepsi, I really enjoyed my lunch. Three different waitresses took care of me, which I didn't mind. They were all polite and attentive. Came here for a late Mother's day celebration and I really enjoyed my breakfast here! This place is filled with locals, making the atmosphere really nice and warm! I had to try Saints before voting in best hot dog in CT contest. I went for chili dog and had to sample chili cheese fries. Both were very good with subtle peppery heat in chili. The restaurant had diner feel with counter and booth seating. Televisions on to keep you entertained while you wait. I noted takeout was busy and brisk activity. Came here was it was declared a "famous" destination. Was left disappointed. Firstly, they moved everything to QR code menus, meaning you had to ask for a physical one. The famous hotdogs were a letdown --although fairly cheap at ~$5- and small; marketed at 10", see the image below for the actual volume of the hotdogs, which were very skinny. That was the cheapest thing on the menu, with a side of small fries nearly $8 and the smaller counterpart being ~$7. This menu is way overpriced. The service was alright, although we almost got skimped on the fries by the cook staff (saw the waitress ask to fill it up more). The staff were decent, although a bit short. The atmosphere was nice, had bar style dining and booths. Made you feel like an old fashioned diner. However, wasn't worth the price. If you want to come here for the "experience," save your time and money as this will leave you disappointed! read more

Came here decades ago and loved the hot dogs and the experience with my dad. My dad has passed so I came with my son the other day. We sat at the counter. Service was attentive. I was a little disappointed in the chili sauce - not like I remembered it. A little bland. The side of fries was super hot, but not remarkable. I truly love that they have a community board where you can buy a meal for someone in need and all they have to do is remove the receipt and order it. It cost us over $20 for two hot dogs and one order of fries without drinks. We were told the tariffs have increased the cost of everything in the past 6 months. Ugh! Interesting place. Saw they had "famous" hot dogs so figured I would stop in and give it a try. Dogs were long and snappy, not much flavor other than the toppings added. Got one with Mustard and Onion which was good. Ordered a "chili" dog. On the menu it said a meat sauce topping. Well, the chili is not chili, it is a true meat topping in some sort of brown sauce. Not very appealing to the eyes, but figured I would try it. Absolutely no flavor to the meat sauce at all. Their meat sauce topping reminded me of Capitol Lunch in New Britain if you've been there. The wife and I stopped here for a quick lunch. We were able to sit at a spacious booth right away. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who brought us menus as she explained that while the menu items are the same the prices have increased slightly. We knew we wanted the famous Saint's Hot Dogs but it was good to go over the rather extensive menu. For a little place, they offer quite a few selections. We both ordered hot dogs with chili and mustard. Mine also had onions. We both order fries. Our dogs were brought over quickly and our fries were combined into one basket. The buns were toasted perfectly, and the dogs were grilled hot and browned. The chili was flavorful, the onions were fresh. The French fries were hot and cooked just the way I like them, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For something as common as the American Hot Dog, these were elevated to a higher level. So far these are my second favorite dogs. It should go without saying that we will be back but I guess I just said it anyway. Can't wait for another day of errands so that we could stop here for lunch. read more

Yelp friend and comrade in chili dogs Kara S. recommended not long ago that I try Saint's in Southington. Today I did. Saint's has long been on my radar since it's across the street from Kettle Bagels. I know it's a Southington, CT institution. In addition to hot dogs, they serve things such as chicken, fried seafood, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, BBQ and fries. Saint's uses Martin Rosol dogs, which is one of my favorites. Saint's version of these hot dogs is long and extends off the bun an inch or two in each direction. At least one other prominent place in the area does that, but I prefer to get some bun with each bite. The hot dog was very well cooked and the bun was well grilled. Those parts of the hot dog were great for me. I ordered it with chili, mustard and onions. The chili sauce was decent, but I prefer a meatier chili sauce and the seasoning blend isn't one of my favorites in the area. In any event, Saint's has a good chili dog and it's worth checking out if you're in the area. Four Stars. read more

My husband and I with our friend who was visiting decided to check this place out. We pass by it pretty frequently and never get the chance. We were a little hesitant because of all the negative reviews, but we decided to make up our own mind. When we walked in we were greeted and seated immediately. Very friendly staff. Here is my only negative...the bottle of ketchup at our table was literally infested with fruit flies. Like they were crawling and flying out of this bottle in every direction. So, we moved a few tables down. I inspected our ketchup thoroughly. I told the waitress about the fly ketchup and she immediately took it away. Back to the positives. The food was really good and fully cooked. The prices are fair as well. The cook/owner actually came out to check on us a few times. Additionally, the waitress answered all of my questions without being annoyed. I'm allergic to dairy in addition to being vegan so I have to be careful with what I eat. She went in back and read the ingredients list on the veggie burger without any kind of attitude. It was a smell gesture, but it meant a lot. I went out for breakfast with my friend here this morning and enjoyed myself. Upon walking in I was greeted by the very nice wait staff, and throughout my whole experience I felt appreciated as a customer because everyone we interacted with was so warm and friendly. This was also evident in the general atmosphere of the place, which was bright and pretty busy. Despite how many people were there, they somehow managed to get out food out SO fast. I was shocked at how quickly they appeared with our meals. They also were quick to notice that we were done eating and got us our check promptly. The food itself was pretty good. I got a meat lover's omelet, which I had bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese. It was slightly overcooked, but it was still really good, especially when eaten with the toast. Their home fries weren't the best that I've ever had, but were still pretty good. I think they could have been a little more flavorful and cooked a little less since there were some burnt pieces. Overall, though, they were decent and I definitely don't have any major complaints. My friend said she always gets their Belgian waffle, which looked amazing - it was so thick and looked delicious. An update! I've been going here for years and I always get a chili cheese dog (which are fabulous and my favorite hot dogs ever) but there's always other things on the menu that I want to try....well this time I tried the broasted chicken (which they now call "chicken under pressure"). It was really delicious. Crispy and flavorful outside and wicked juicy inside. The flavor reminded me of my childhood in the (potential) sense that KFC used to make their chicken the same way. The waitstaff should clue you in that it does take them about 15 minutes to make the chicken (because the dogs take about 5). Next up, a Philly cheesesteak....I've got my eye on you! read more

We found this place through an online search (we were visiting the goats at Bradley Mountain Farm in Southington) and are really glad we went to Saint's for lunch! This place seems to be a local institution, the kind of place you'd see on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." Our chili dogs were amazing and the onion rings were soooo delicious! When I was a little kid living in Bristol we would take a trip to Southington every other week to get long dogs, burgers and fries. Now I live in Buffalo, NY and rarely come back home, but when I passed by this place on Saturday with a friend of mine, I knew I needed to get one of those famous long dogs once again. We came in around 4:00PM and the place had a good amount of people in it. Once we sat down and looked over the menu I was filled with some good ol' fashion nostalgia. I wasn't starving at the time (which is good since nobody needs to order 10 long dogs, but I probably would have) so I ordered one long dog with some of that famous meat sauce on it. After ordering it only took about 3 minutes for our waitress (who was very nice and attentive) to serve us our food. This hot dog was exactly what I remembered and that's a good, basic, and delicious hot dog with random meat sauce on it (I never want to actually know what's in anywheres meat sauce). This place is a Connecticut institution for how a burger and fries joint should operate, I highly recommend that anyone in the area should stop by and see what this classic place is all about. read more

We were driving by Saint's this afternoon and looking for a place to have lunch, so we stopped in. It has been over 2 years since our last visit, but not much has changed. i ordered a BBQ pork sandwich, my wife went with a shrimp platter and a cup of clam chowder. Like our first visit to Saint's, we felt the food was very average, nothing really stood out. Service was sub-par, our waitress disappeared after taking our orders, she never came back to ask how our meals were or ask if we wanted anything. Saint's is a great casual family eatery. The prices are just right, and make for a terrific value. The food is always good, fresh quality, and prepared well. The menu is uncomplicated, typical american fare. Chili dogs are the spotlighted, but the entire selection is good. From burgers to chili fries, clam rolls to roasted chicken, every meal is good. The Philly cheesesteak is a special treat. As a Philadelphia resident for 17 years, the offering at Saint's makes the grade. The roll is properly grilled, and meat and cheese are top-notch. Sunday morning breakfasts include some of the best offerings. The standard menu items are great, but the specials are out of this world. Look for Eggs Benedict, or the special hash. The only caveat: the place can get rather crowded after church services let out. I would readily recommend Saint's to family and friends. read more

I typically get two of the 10" dogs with their meat sauce, but my wife usually gets something different every time, and everything she has tried she has loved. The thing she loves the most is the clam chowder. As for me, I've only had the hot dogs. When I find something I like, I just keep eating it because I'm a weirdo I guess. The food is pretty good (philly cheese steak and fries) and reasonably priced but the whole experience was ruined by terrible service. The waitress forgot to come take our order. Then when we finally got our food she never came back to check on us. We all wanted refills and napkins but never received any. It took an exceptionally long time to get our bill. read more
