My chilé relleno and shredded beef enchilada were delicious. Their red sauce has a different, richer taste than I'm used to, but it was wonderful. The margaritas were huge and generous with tequila. This small northern California chain has very good food. My lunch specia:l chicken stir-fried with bell peppers, rice, refried beans covered in cheese, guacamole, two slices of tomato, a lettuce leaf, and four tortillas was very good and more than I could eat, especially after eating warm chips with salsa and refried bean sauces. To deal with the Corvid-19 pandemic, seating has been reduced and sanitary measures increased. read more

We were seated right away on a Friday night. The service was good. The food left a lot to be said sired. This also seem to be like a Ranchero sauce out of the can. They did serve refried beans mash with the chips which is nice. The chips were OK. On the plus side I got a tequila sunrise for $2.99 because it was on happy hour! The fish tacos or grilled but they used to Lapierre and I don't eat farmed fish. The taco salad does not come with beans as one of the layers which seems odd to me. I ordered the wire to burrito with crab, shrimp and chicken and I never did find the crab. The chicken in the burrito was dry. The race was not very good. The beans were decent. read more

I had eaten here once before w/my husband a few years ago (2016?) when we were moving from Seattle to California. It was pretty good-decent food and service.. I have had better, but would have given it four stars. So when I was on my way up to visit friends in Seattle last month, I decided to stop in. I had a cold and thought Mexican might be something I could taste. I stopped in around 4:30 pm on a Wed. afternoon-I am a former food server and knew it would be a good time to avoid the crowds. There was only one other table when I walked in-a teenage boy and his dad. I ordered a chicken burrito and was looking forward to a piping hot entree. I ordered a Mexican beer and had some chips and salsa while I prepared to wait. The waitress was nice, but I was a little worried when the food came out "too quickly." Boy, was I disappointed?! The plate was nice and hot--the food, not so much. It was okay hot-but did not stay hot long, which made me think it was not thoroughly heated. I told myself not to be so picky-plus I was hungry- hadn't eaten since breakfast. I took a bite of my burrito. It did not taste like chicken. I took another tiny bite and looked at it. It looked weird. I called the waitress over (I was now the only customer) and asked: is this GROUND chicken? I had never had that in a burrito before. She apologized-"oh, you wanted chicken?" I asked what the meat was and she said it was hamburger. Instead of immediately getting up and leaving, I gave them a chance to make it right. She came out very quickly with my new burrito. I tasted it and it tasted like canned chicken. yes I am picky and notice these things. There was very little sauce on it and it was not very hot either. Instead of getting up and paying for my beer and leaving, I called her over and asked her to heat it in the oven for awhile and add a little more sauce. She came back in a short while with my microwaved burrito that was now swimming in a thin, unappetizing sauce. I took about two bites; amazingly enough, my appetite was now gone. This horrible experience cost me about $20. The "manager"(?) came out of the kitchen and took my money-did not ask how my meal was or seem to care. I feel like I got robbed--highway robbery of a traveler passing through. I almost said something along those lines, but I let it go and did not give it any further thought until the next night around midnight- when I barely made it to the toilet to violently throw up. Had not eaten very much during the day-but checked the toilet and saw SALSA. That is when I really got angry. I called the local health dept. the next day and reported the incident. Luckily I survived and had no further symptoms. I am now more careful about where I decide to eat. What I learned from this experience: If something doesn't feel right or taste right, listen to your instincts. Food poisoning can be very serious and even cause death to some. read more

Wow!! We came here after checking into the Holiday Inn down the street and were not disappointed. The food was excellent. We live in WA and have not had Mexican food this delicious in a long time. I highly recommend the sopes. My husband loved the carne asada burrito. Heads up the large plates are HUGE! You can easily split between 2 people. Horchata is to die for! The wait staff was great. Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. She made great suggestions on ways to accommodate some special request. She was incredibly attentive without being overbearing. She was on top of refilling drinks before we asked, already bringing extra napkins etc. Icing on the cake, our kids meals were .99 because it was Sunday! We stop in Yreka often on west coast road trips and are so excited to find out new dinner spot. read more

I pretty much come here whenever I'm in town. The food is always really fresh, fast and the service is the best in town. Every waiter/waitress has a smile and a joke for us. Most of the time we'll receive tequila poppers on the house! I've had everything from veggie burritos, enchiladas (LOVE their sauce!), carne asada (probably the best I've ever had), nachos, chicken soup and chicken salad. All are superb! My family can be pretty picky and demanding at times and they always accommodate every need. Their salsa has the perfect kick and their chips are always hot and fresh. I've never heard a complaint from anyone about their meal here. Not only is their food good and service excellent, their items are also inexpensive. read more

Hey there's one in Yreka! Who knew!? We wanted Mexican food & were headed to Casa Ramos last night. Across the street from Casa Ramos is Puerto Vallarta. I say "let's try something new". So we headed on in, I open the menu & distinctly recognized it. "Remember we met ***** & **** in Redding, she just had a laser treatment & her lips botoxed, this is the same restaurant!", I exclaimed. Here's what I love most about my new Yreka find; 1. Small, clean, and decorated with bright colors, hand-carved wood booths with sun faces and cool Mexican pottery chandeliers hanging everywhere. 2. ICE COLD BEER. On the edge of freezing. 3. HOT FOOD. I thought my paper napkin would combust if it touched the edge of the plate! We will eat here before Casa Ramos when in Yreka next time. Thanks to the recommendation of our friends in Mt Shasta, we drove to Yreka for dinner at this restaurant! Sooooo worth the drive! Camarones Mexicanos - shrimp with mushrooms and green bell peppers in delicious, spicy sauce, specifically recommended by our friends. Proverbial "to die for". That sauce is luscious. Chiles Rellenos - large Pasillo chile stuffed with a ton of cheese. Enchilada with pork - HUGE chunks of lean, juicy pork, smothered in yet another ton of cheese. Staff is service-oriented, friendly, and obviously loving their jobs. Want the bad news? This is the best value for your money because the portions are THE ABSOLUTE BIGGEST we have ever seen!!! I DO NOT want to meet the person who can finish those portions! I work in Yreka and Mt Shasta on occasion and I cannot wait to eat here again. The food is wonderful! read more

Some of what they serve is good, other dishes are pretty mediocre. The lady server provides really good service but if you get the man I would suggest asking for a different server or just leaving. He is rude, makes you wait forever, and won't honor most requests for standard items such as extra salsa, etc. I'm assuming he is the owner since he would be fired otherwise. read more

My sister and I came here last week while I was visiting. They immediately bring you their delicious warm chips and salsa. We ordered a Chicken Quesadilla, and Steak Quesadilla which were both HUGE!! It really was enough for 3 people. At the end of the meal they bring you this wonderful Cinnamon/Sugar Crispy Tortilla with Whipped Cream, and Choc sauce that is just heavenly. read more

I tend to hate Mexican restaurants (taquerias all the way) because the food is bland and just a pile of starch, but I thought this place was pretty good, great for a Mex restaurant (esp. in Yreka of all places). I am a vegetarian, which can be a huge pain for Mexican restaurants (lard in the beans, chicken broth in the rice), but the server was really nice and started asking the head line cook about all the ingredients. He came out & asked me some questions. He was really nice too and not put out by it. I consider myself pretty low maintenance, but it was still really rad to get all that attention. I had the spinach & cheese quesadilla ($9.99) off the appetizer menu. It was huge (I took enough with me for a whole other meal) and came with guacamole. I thought it was a darn good quesadilla. The chips were fresh and pretty good, though I would've liked 'em salty & thin (just my preference). The salsa was forgettable (I'm a purist--tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeno, lime & call it a day). Overall, I give the food 3.5 stars and the service a 6 star. read more

As others have noted, the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside (seems to be a theme in Yreka); however ignore that attribute. Service was good. Usual selection of cervezas, great chips, and very healthy portions. I had a couple of Tacos al Carbon (standard serving is four!), and couldn't eat even those two. With competition from Casa Ramos across the street, Puerto Vallarta serves solid Mexican food in a region where you might be tempted to keep driving to Medford. The burrito was absolutely massive and the arroz con pollo was good with solid amounts of flavor. The meal starts with free salsa and chips, and the service was better than average. Prices are cheap and the atmosphere is kitschy but not overwhelming tacky. While your meal will definitely not be especially memorable, the food was definitely good enough to recommend Puerto Vallarta to anyone on the 5 needing a stop or staying in Yreka. read more

I still like this place- it's my preferred Mexican restaurant in Yreka. I don't think they give out sopes anymore (at least on my visit last month they didn't), and I'm not sure about the availability of free tequila poppers for this location either. I also was not super impressed with their mole on my last visit, which was a bummer. However, this is still the most authentic Mexican food in town in my opinion. Love the chips and salsa, the service is always fast and friendly, and the booths are very cool :) I'll keep coming back for the mole! read more

Stopped in tonight for some late dinner. Parking lot was packed, so we could tell it would be busy. The other Mexican restaurant across the street was closed for the holiday weekend, so these guys were it for dinner choices. We were seated immediately and given hot chips with salsa and beans. The beans were good, salsa wasn't anything special. We got water, and our orders taken with in 5 minutes. That was the best part of our experience. It took over 25 minutes to get our food, and when we did I was so disappointed. My El carbon tacos were literally swimming in grease. It was still sizzling on the plate. Yet all that grease, and my tacos weren't even slightly crispy. I couldn't pick them up they were so soggy. The flavor on the meat was good though. My husband's chicken burrito was good. And huge. He was happy with his choice. Me, not so much. They did give us a discount due to the wait. It wasn't their fault it was so packed, and the staff all seemed pretty happy, so they didn't lose stars for that. But soggy greasy tacos just don't cut it. Sorry. read more

Using its high Yelp rating we tried this place for lunch on our way out of California and experienced some of the same problems that we found in earlier reviews. The portions were more than enough but the food tasted a little bland and in some bites it was downright mis-seasoned. My wife commented that the salsa served with the chips tasted like catsup. The interior looked okay but I find that autographed dollar bills taped to the walls was not to my liking. The wait staff was courteous and friendly though. Kind of a mixed review for me. read more
