We enjoy this pickup basketball league. Run by a respectable person. For the most of it, it's a fun atmosphere. Always have the few in ant league who will challenge that, but when it comes to it, it is run very well for those who enjoy the sport. read more

The only good thing about this league is that it guarantees you a game a week... otherwise there is no quality control. Ref start the game clock well before tip off for some reason and let several minutes run before the game even start, have no training whatsoever and do not enforce clock stoppage under 2 minutes, so competitive games get ruined when 25 seconds blow on a dead ball the clock cause the ref does not alarm the scorekeeper (happened multiple times). Owners of the league have no care about the actual quality anymore as long as they get signups for each season they're happy to sit back while the quality diminishes each season with lesser quality reffing + competitive balancing. Game postings used to be done several days in advance to make scheduling around it easier, but now they're released the day before which makes it harder for players to schedule around. read more

Referees were pretty bad, the league is pretty cheap I mean they ask players to keep score. One time they had one ref for the whole game, so you can get away with all the fouls in the world. Would not recommend. read more

It's a pretty competitive league, they take a look at every team's record and strength of schedule during the week and match you up with a similar opponent, so blowouts are fairly few and far between. Scorekeeping isn't the most accurate and efficient sometimes but for the most part it's a good opportunity to play some organized basketball in a town otherwise starving for it. I signed up as an individual as I am just moving into the Seattle area. Friendly people/players/referees so far. $65 for 7 or 8 games (don't remember which and I'm too lazy to look it up) and $15 for a reversible jersey. read more

Been playing with this league for 10 years. To be honest am starting to look for a new place, but sadly they are the biggest game in town. Price seems to keep going up while the quality seems go down. The refs are inconsistent, either let us play or be strict on foul calling. Don't change it up in the middle of the game so it affects the outcome. They cannot offer competitive games on a consistent basis (especially on the women's side). I am on a mid-level team and quite often we blow out the other team or get blown out. I also don't enjoy trash talking and they seem to not care about that. I just want to play a competitive, not too physically aggressive game. Also, some of the gyms are not very nice. Interbay (not sure of they are using that one anymore) was disgusting and some of the places have dead spots in the floor (PSBL Sodo). read more

Imagine you are a hardcore rec /competitive basketball player and happened to stumble across PSBL's website. It reads, "With over 5,600 games organized last year, and 271 adult teams, AND PSBL is the State of Washington's Largest Recreational Basketball League." It also states; "271 teams means: you get a good variety of opponents, 271 teams means: you can choose from various skill levels, 271 teams means: you can request locations, 271 teams means: you can choose your favorite day to play, 271 teams means: you can preference certain times." I would imagine that one would be pretty excited about the amount of basketball that could potentially be played. I mean, it says 5600 games played last year! It says, 271 teams! I can pick my favorite day! I can pick my own time! I can play with others, who are at MY skill level! I can even purchase a team jersey! I admit, on-line this was very appealing to me. VERY APPEALING . I signed up to run as a free agent, meaning I didn't have my own squad. I paid the $75 for 8 games, not too bad, not too great. Bought the $17 PSBL jersey and waited for Sunday. Game time is 1pm. I asked for 11am but its cool. I show up, we have 10 guys including myself , no problem, we introduce ourselves, so far so good. We decide on starters, we all agree that the 6'9 guy needs to jump, he does have a full 6 inch advantage, this is not rocket science, everything is set. GAME TIME. We win the jump. 6'9 guy proceeds to shoot 3 after 3 after 3. CLANG. CLANG. SWISH. Off to the races. I appears we have 8 Allen Iversons. I know what you are saying, Darrin what does this have to do with reviewing the league? One moment. This is just game 1 of 8! That is not an excited exclamation point either. We actually win this game by 16 points, it was closer than the score says though. You'd think that game 2 would be against similar players as game 1. I mean, this is C division. Game 2, same scenario as game 1. We lose by 35 points. I swear we played the Magic, in Orlando. DUNK DUNK BLOCK DUNK..Did I mention DUNK? Apparently if you win by a margin of 6 or more you are considered psuedo-NBA and if you lose by more than 10 you are Special Olympic canidates.. Basically, this league allows you to play once a week guaranteed. The refs are not always the best, some are better than others. The clock is running which can be annoying for basketball purists and makes a comeback in the last few minutes virtually impossible. There's a wide range of talent and PSBL does their best to assign you to an appropriate level of play which eliminates the probability of blowouts which aren't fun for anyone. You have to keep your own score but there is a scoreboard. Not that big of a deal, whoever's on the bench for the "home" team does it. Like I said in the first sentence, it's an opportunity to play basketball once a week which is nice to have in Seattle, a city where basketball's not particularly popular. read more

For a decent priced league in the city it does the job of being able to play organized bball once a week. Would give 2.5 stars but I guess Yelp doesn't allow half star ratings. Cons (I will raise my rating if they could improve on the following): - Some kind of playoff system or tournament at the end of sessions where the winning team gets something. A cheap trophy, t-shirts, anything. Having records is okay but there's not any incentive beyond having a good record. - Changing the clock stoppage rules. If the game isn't within 7(?) points at the 3:00 mark of the second half the clock keeps running. So if my team is down 10 with 3:00 to go but then cuts the lead to 3 with 1:00 left the clock doesn't stop. This is frustrating, doesn't make sense and worsens the experience. - Also, clock should be stopped for timeouts too regardless of how much time is on the clock. - The refs need to let us play more sometimes there are some pretty ticky tack fouls called and calls are not consistent across both teams. - Some of the gyms are not very nice. It would be nice if all the gyms were of consistent quality/size - A better scorekeeping system and someone that keeps stats. I would rather have one ref instead of two and have the other ref keep score and mark individual stats - Better online experience that shows more than just records. How about individual stats, photos, charts so teams can track their progress not just for that session but for as long as they've been registered Pros: - Scheduling is fairly flexible - They offer leagues on most days of the week - Gym locations relatively close to the city read more

You are probably a basketball lover like me who are looking for a team to join, and came across the Puget Sound Basketball League website. The website shows the PSBL is so attractive and well organized, but I wouldn't recommend it. With okay price of $90 for jersey and 8 games, my friend signed up for it as an individual, I am curious how he will be assigned to a suitable team, so I watch at the games. Turned out that the tallest player in his team is 6'0", and the rest is under that height. Playing against the opponent teams, approximately more than 50% of them are over 6'0". This makes me wonder how much thought did they put into assigning the teams. As stated on the website where I almost signed up says "With over 5,600 games organized last year, and 271 adult teams, and PSBL is the State of Washington's Largest Recreational Basketball League." You would expect them to HIRE professionals to do score, instead they always ask friends and family supporters or even players to do the score. Winning or loosing is okay, but they should hire PROFESSIONAL referee who knows what they're doing, and not a high school kid who is trying to make some money for the summer. They just call foul any kind and not calling foul when they should. Oh... I remembered clearly that one referee was playing in at my friend's team when we didn't have enough players showed up, it's okay that he cannot shoot, but he was acting like a coach and teaching the team how to play, just want to make me laugh! read more

I have to write a review, as this league helped me a lot in getting back to a happier life :). I was after 3 years of not playing basketball, after losing 25 pounds to a health problem. After some cycling to get back some form I tried PSBL. I am only playing recreational and co-ed games, still not going to the men league :). Although I was in very bad shape, the other players were very helpful and encouraging. Now after almost two years I am playing twice per week and I got back to a much better form. The games are challenging for me but in two years I did not have an injury or hard fouls on any game. And looking at the men league games played on adjacent courts I can say that there are challenges for better players too. read more

Great deal for the cost. They offer organized pick up games daily so you do not have to commit to a league.

The competition various from session to session but a lot of the time its fairly good. I like the game structure compared to a lot of other leagues (2 - 25 min continuously running clock halves) but would prefer they stop the clock the last two minutes no matter what the score is. Right now the clock only stops the last two minutes if the score is within 7. Which really is not that hard to make up in 2 minutes. I think 10 would be more reasonable. The refs are terrible but you get what you pay for and to be honest they are a slight notch above the refs at he Sound Mind and Body League in Fremont. read more
