They put plenty of mushrooms which is great. I knew I should have ordered the cordon again. The kids burger had more flavor which I found odd. The monte was real good and like that it's not fried. A friend recommended we visit while in Lake Charles and it was terrific!! Sadly I'm GF so we couldn't try the specials that looked so smzing, bit dinner was still terrific! Hubs and I shred the crab avocado salad and Ceasars salad. Oth were excellent. I enjoy a tNgy Ceasars and the was great. We also shared the 16 Oz ribeye, baked potato and garlicky mushrooms. It was all amazing! We are fro Houston and have been to some great steak houses: Del Friscos, Riths Chris, Killen. This was as good, if not better. The garlicky mushrooms were absolutely amazing!!!! Cafe? Don't let that word fool you into thinking this place is anything less than wonderful. While I can't speak to many other restaurants in the area against which Pujo Street Cafe may be judged, I can certainly tell you it has to be one of the best. Thanks to a search on Yelp, I found this place was nearby, allowed me to sit inside to eat, and had a diverse menu. Promptly greeted and walked to a table, I sat for only a moment before Mary, my server, introduced herself and took my drink order. I had the spinach and artichoke dip with pita chips (crispy bites of goodness) and the Wasabi Tuna Sandwich. I love tuna and have had some great steaks and also some not-so-great steaks. This thing was absolutely perfect! If you are going to sear tuna and put it on bread, make it exactly like this. Wasabi mayo on a slight sweet, jalapeño bread made for a mild heat that paired perfectly with the tuna. It was perfect. Really. I left comfortablly full and happy knowing I have a few more nights in town to take advantage of their menu. Wonderful corner cafe. Enjoyed the Hollywood Salad and delicious hummus. Service was friendly and attentive. Loved the ambiance of the cafe.

Ordered the Blue Crab Ravioli, which was supposed to come with a side a vegetables. The "vegetables" was like 2 thin strips of bell pepper and a few slices of zucchini. The ravioli itself was very thick and doughy, not cooked long enough. Hardly any crab within the ravioli. The romaine tasted crisp and fresh, but it had enough preservatives to upset my sensitive stomach. This place was amazing, from the moment we walked and were greeted by the hostess ( I can remember her name but lovely and polite). Our waiter Cain, was so polite, he didn't rush us through any part of our breakfast and checked on us frequently. Quiet little place, lovely interior that makes you enjoy the food so much more. The food was amazing, the coffee was fresh, we ordered some beignets that were just little pillows of deliciousness. The homestyle fries were crispy, yet fluffy on the inside. The eggs, bacon, toast, literally everything the brought us was scrumptious. Wish they had a place like this back in Houston, would be there all the time. The absolute best grits I've ever had in my life. I forgot to ask what they put in them to make them so good but I'd go back solely to eat those again. Unfortunately I'm knocking off a star because the breakfast burrito I got to go with it (Sans meat) was pretty much flavorless and the service could stand to be improved. The restaurant was also empty as far as I could tell but when I tried to get extra breakfast potatoes at 11:15 I was told no. Top Line: Three of us hit up Pujo Street Cafe for lunch on a day when Lake Charles was jumpin' & jammin' due to Mardi Gras festivities. Getting a table was quick, in spite of the eatery being pretty full, and waiter expeditiously got us water & took our order. It took a fair amount of time (about 30 or so minutes iirc) for our food to arrive. Garden salad with vinegrette was okay, veggies were fresh & dressing had good tang. I had the Grilled Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. It was a generous portion & made for a filling meal after the salad. Taste was plenty rich & strong due to the slices of ham, grilled chicken breast, & pineapple ring. Others in the party gave their meals passing grades. So the kitchen was doing well that very busy day. Service got sketchy & wait times noticable after food was delivered. We talked with the manager who was filling a few roles that day, including patrolling the dining room, and he said they were short staffed due to sick call-ins. Maybe not surprising given that Mardi Gras was right around the corner. The interior ranged from bright & open (glass lined "veranda" room out by the sidewalk) to pretty dim & dark (interior rooms tucked back behind a wall that looks like it used to be the front of the building). We sat in sort of a hallway between the two parts & had plenty of light. Table settings were linen & tasteful. So yeah, I'd hit up Pujo Street Cafe again as a good dining experience no problem. read more

This place is super good. The food was excellent and service too. We were a party of five, Friday night and we got seated pretty quickly. We ordered: Crab Ravioli: super tasty and delicious. It comes with grill vegetables. Super good. . Grilled salmon: Excellent caramelized and served rice and vegetales. Super good. Shrimp Angel Pasta: creamy and delicious. Mac and Cheese Chicken (kid menu): the chicken super crunchy and delicious. My son loves the Mac and cheese. Chocolate Mouse Cake: it was fine, but not my favorite. Ok! . Impeccable. my sister and I were in town on vacation and we wanted to go to an authentic restaurant that was also dog friendly. We arrived and realized that they have got a beautiful covered patio that really reminded me of the French quarter because it's all enclosed in brick. The food is absolutely perfect, my sister had the quesadillas and I had a shrimp Poboy and as a southerner I am pretty discerning about this food group and they just nailed everything. Service was okay, not spectacular, but nothing I can say that was bad, just a tad slow. They had smallish glasses for iced tea and I ran out frequently. This evening we were driving around Lake Charles and I looked for a close place to eat and this place was the closest. I wasn't really sure about it when I saw the sign, I thought it was going to be mediocre fast-ish food. Boy was I wrong! It was so good! It was one of the too three meals I've had in Louisiana. I started out with shrimp cocktail. The cocktail sauce was great. It had a kick to it but not too too much. I ordered the salmon. They had to modify it since I'm gluten free but it was fantastic. I've had salmon before where they've left off the seasoning due to gluten but this was still flavored very well. My friend got the fish tacos. She said they are the best fish tacos she has had. We both ended dinner with creme brûlée which also was very good. It had more of the egg taste but it was quite nice. Overall it was a great experience and I will return if I am back in Lake Charles. read more

We are staying for a few days in Lake Charles and are here for lunch. Even though they've been hit by a pandemic, staff shortages and hurricane last year this place was amazing. We went around lunch time during the weekday so there was a wait. We were prepared. The staff were so friendly and attentive. My son had the chicken quesadillas and he said they were the best he's had in a long time. Husband had stuffed crab. The breading had a little kick to it and the veggies were roasted perfectly. I had chicken salad sandwich. If you like cranberries, you'll love this. All were very tasty. Highly recommend he crab cakes too. They are made with cornmeal which was a nice change to the breading. Also noting the stuffed crab and crab cakes were made with different breading so flavor was unique for each item. As always we appreciated the hospitality from Louisiana. read more

The food is delicious. But my god are the wait times excessively long. I recently went twice around 1:15pm both times. Restaurant was not busy at all. It still took over half an hour to get a burger and fries. Drink glass (Coke) sat empty entirely too long as well. I did notice that I had the same waitress both times, so maybe it is just her and not indicative of the rest of the staff. Oh and there was nearly a 10 minute wait just to get some ketchup. The food was very good and I'd like to go back, but I can only alot so much time during my lunch break that I am hesitant to go back. I'm sure my boss would have a problem with me telling her again that Pujo Street Cafe still took over 45 minutes for a simple lunch. Maybe Im better off going after work. read more

Im a LC native and have visited Pujo St several times over the years. I've had the French onion soup (too salty to eat), crab cakes and stuffed shrimp (who uses imitation crab on the gulf coast?!), shrimp and grits (pretty good honestly), the burger (its a burger), and a few other things. Last two visits service was sub par. All in all, there are better places to eat in Lake Charles and while I've often recommended Pujo St to visitors in the past (it is a perfect "tourist" restaurant) I definitely have a new go to recommendation. read more

Very pleased! My three year old and dog enjoyed themselves significantly on the patio here. The service was great, as was the food. The covered patio room was nice since it was sprinkling outside and we couldn't bring the pup inside anywhere. The staff was pleasant and welcoming of my dog. When they brought our drinks, they provided a bowl of water and offered snacks for her before I could even ask. My pooch is a bigger dog, but she had plenty of room to turn around and lay/sit. There were other dogs here, too! Parking was great. Visited around lunch time on Saturday and had no trouble finding a spot and didn't have to walk. Food was okay. I ordered a steak with mixed veggies- the mixed veggies consisted of two thin slices of zuchinni, two thin slices of yellow squash, and two thin strips of bell pepper. No exaggeration! Oh well. My kid had the grilled cheese and fruit. The grilled cheese was the best I've ever tried. The dessert (bread pudding and creme brûlée) made me forgive the lack of vegetables. Phenomenal.
