Because I'm so familiar with it, I always recommend Pujo St Cafe to people when asked. After all, I grew up a few blocks away. However, I can only say I've had the food three times. First, as a teenager, but both second and third times in my 30s. I invited my fiancé and MIL to eat brunch with me. First, the food is NOT. GOOD. AT. ALL. I was actually headed to get a quick sandwich from Darrell's when I was invited to Pujo St instead. I hate so much I said yes. Second, the crab stuffed shrimp were way over cooked - I ate one of three and trashed the rest. The meal is advertised as being served with a baked potato. I was given a plain potato and charged extra for butter, cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits (I don't even eat pork & didn't ask. I asked for butter, only!). We had to remind the server several times to attend to multiple things. It was an overall unsatisfactory experience that I'm happy to never repeat, but I'll also gladly denigrate this establishment every chance I get. read more

When we walked in there was no wait staff to seat us. When we did get to sit at a table the lighting was so low that we could not read the menus. Our food was very plain/bland. 10.00 for a burger with only cheese on it and it was no seasoned at all. Sat for 5+ minutes waiting for our waitress to get our check and they were not busy at all. My husband got sick shortly after we left the restaurant, and today I am sick. We will not be back ever. Find a different place to eat if your thinking this place. read more

Great food with a wide selection of menu offerings. The waitstaff makes our dining experience a pleasure everytime. The perfect place for any occasion. My daughter used the backroom area for a wedding, another daughter a baby shower. We have celebrated graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and family get togethers. We were both immediately impressed with the transformation! It was dark and moody but the lamps were still bright enough to read the menu. It was elegant but still comfortable enough that we weren't afraid to have conversation (some restaurants we have visited with similar ambiance makes you feel like you have to be quiet, Augustine was not like this which we appreciated). We ordered drinks, me a thyme sour; delicious and refreshing, him a sweet tea. We were given the freshest, fluffiest, softest bread with a surprising no herb butter. We both gave it a 9/10 We ordered the crab cake appetizer. We are crab cake snobs so it was only right we did. We both instantly agreed that these were the best crab cakes we have had in a restaurant setting by far! They were full of actual crab meat, lightly fried with what I believe were bread crumbs and not a thick flour batter. The best way to do it in my opinion. They came with the tastiest, citrus remoulade sauce. I could've put that sauce on everything. We both also gave these a 9/10 only because as much as we loved the sauce they drowned our cakes in it and we had to scrape some off. For our entrees we ordered the fish Augustine and the duck breast. Normally cooked medium we asked that our duck be cooked medium rare (that's how we like it) and the kitchen knocked it out the park! Again, the best duck breast we have had in a restaurant setting to date (even better than the duck breast we had a Michelin star restaurant for my birthday previously ). They paired it with the crispiest soft roasted potatoes and a blackberry sauce that was perfect in my opinion. I gave this a 10/10 he gave it a 9/10..-1 for no reason. The fish Augustine good but not great especially compared to the duck dish. The fish, grouper was cooked perfectly in my opinion and was soft and flaky however it lacked flavor. It comes with a few shrimp that are listed as gulf shrimp but these shrimp immediately tasted imported to me..rubbery and the taste of freezer burn. The asparagus were my favorite part of the dish only because they tasted normal to me. The sauce on the bottom was good but I found myself dredging the fish and asparagus through it in order to get some kind of flavor in my mouth which is disappointing. We both rated this a 5/10 shrimp being a 1/10. There was a little hiccup in the kitchen with our courses that resulted in us waiting longer than average for our entrees but our server, Corey, more than made up for it with dessert! We got a regular crème brûlée and a strawberry champagne layered cake. Both desserts were exceptional and the perfect ending to our date night. Overall we gave our experience a solid 8/10 and will definitely be back even if it is just for the duck breast
