Of course he also managed to fish more work, outside of the company's purview, I learned later, to replace a serpentine belt. Total cost: $900. The punchline: I took it to Austin Automotive who informed me that the original thermostat was still in the car, and what's worse, the thermostat is part of the water pump system. You cannot replace just the thermostat in my car. Phone calls were not returned, and when I finally heard back, they asked me if I wanted a new serpentine belt... Unbelievable. Too bad that I cannot give them zero stars.

While my vehicle was there, something--probably a rat--chewed through a wire in the engine. This has caused a warning light to appear on my dashboard display. Carlot told me their mechanic noticed the problem. I pointed out to them that the wire worked when I brought in the vehicle, and the warning light was not on, but they did not offer to repair it and did not take responsibility for it. Now I've got to figure out how to repair this severed wire and sensor. Not impressed.
