Really enjoyed the "Allstars" line up they had this past Friday, especially the second to last act. There were 4 acts, 5 if we include the host as he did have a set as well. Their headliner wasn't as good as the woman before her, she was ranked 3rd out of the 4 acts between our group, so other than landing a little flat, it was overall fantastic still! There is a 2 drink minimum, if you don't drink alcohol you will be asked to order a water or soft drink, both are $5. They sell food as well, we got their nachos with chicken. The nachos were not good sadly. It was $14 for the nachos plus $5 to add chicken, so $19. The chips were stale, the chicken and cheese were cold, I didn't think there was enough guac, beans, or salsa. They gave us a crap ton of sour cream though haha Service was ok but food was a little slow to come out, we placed the food order at the beginning of the set and didn't get it until the 2nd to last comedian was on. This particular show went from 730 til 930 ish. They started on time and sat us quickly, about half the venue was full. Crowd was great read more

This is about customer service. I stopped by the Punch Line last night to inquire about a forthcoming show. They were getting ready for a show that evening when I asked about future tickets. Adam, a staff member, took the time and effort to guide me on the best way to attempt to buy a ticket to the show I wanted, which is sold out. Why am I writing this? Because in an era where customer service is lacking, here is a guy went went out of his way to provide guidance for an event where he was not making any additional compensation and the venue would not make a dime (potentially) until that day. Customer service in SF, on a 1- 10, ranks about a 4. Adam showed to me that "he gets it". As someone in the service sector (resume writing), I get it and appreciate service! If you like stand-up comedy, this is the place for you! I went to the Sunday Showcase of mostly local comics and it was great. There was a sizable crowd, especially for a Sunday. The service was excellent and the food/non-alcoholic options counted towards the 2 item minimum. I'd definitely come earlier to show if you don't want to sit right in front of the stage, as those tended to be the only open seats come show time. read more

Great location of the city. Not sure about parking, because I scootered there. I love the way this place is set up. Not too big. Out of the way but in a good spot. Only thing keeping this place back is the talent. We bought tickets for a couple comedians that simply weren't there. These were coms that were vetted. Out of the three that did show.. one was good. My advice? If you have a show about d****, a**, s**, your own d*** size, other dudes d*** size. Then stay home or go get another job. No one likes bad talent. That material is corny and played out. Went to See Jay Jurden and had the most terrible time with the staff there. They said my friends were too loud so my friends went outside. I was there by MYSELF laughing at a joke and clapping and I was told to be quiet. I was like wait what? Are we not allowed to clap or laugh for performers? And I was then asked to leave the venue. I can't believe I paid over $90 dollars not including food and drinks to be treated so abysmally. Kicking someone out who was laughing?!? At a joke?!? I wasn't laughing during a moment silence for Gaza. I truly laughed at a queer comedic icons joke and was asked to leave. Insane. Never going back. This is a cozy little venue where I've seen both great and mediocre shows. Not every performance is going to be a home run, but that's just the nature of live entertainment. I was pretty indifferent toward the place--until tonight. Earlier, at a different venue, I must have eaten or drunk something that didn't agree with me, and by the time I got to the club, I was really struggling. Being the sober guy at a comedy club while trying not to throw up is far from ideal--all the embarrassment, none of the fun. The staff was fantastic. Even though I had to tap out just two minutes into the MC's introduction, they quickly totaled up my bill and even waived the charge for my non-alcoholic drink. Never guess who I got to see last night! DAVE CHAPPELLE Yes, it was awesome and icing on the cake is I also got to see Kenan Thomas. It is a nice venue. Very intimate. Only thing is he only announces his appearance day of so you have to be on your toes to snag a ticket. I tried 2-3 times before this and I finally got them! It was a little tricky to find the building because it's a bit hidden but area is not busy and fairly easy to find parking. I will definitely be back. Philly Philly Wang Wang! We were lucky to score some tix to see Netflix phenom, Phil Wang at this intimate club. We were check and jowl with other patrons but we kept our masks on, antisocial distancing. We had eaten dinner so we got some cans of seltzer to make the two drink minimum. Staff and service were great. The comedians were top notch from opening acts to headliners. To say that there jokes really killed would be both metaphorically and literally honest as one of the patrons collapsed on the way out of the club (what, too soon?). Great place to see comedy. The location is great and with the size of the venue you can't get a bad seat. It also feels intimate which really let's you feel engaged with the performers. There is one reason I rated a 4 instead of a 5 and that's the 2 drink minimum. I don't drink alcohol or sugary drinks, which left me with choosing coffee/tea or water, so I got a water and coffee for $12. I don't mind spending money here but if they could some how allow food towards a $ minimum that would be great. Great staff as well. read more

Yessssss, Punch Line SF is here to stay! Thanks to my friend Angela for inviting me when she won two tickets to a Thursday night show via Yelp! We had a blast laughing our arses off when Orlando Leyba came out. I saw him at Punch Line Sacramento during Michael Yo's show, and he was hilarious! I was ecstatic to see him in the city by the Bay. I worked at One Maritime Plaza in the 90's and always got jealous of the people going into Punch Line, as I would get off super late when the shows were over. I was stuck like Rapunzel. I always preferred Punch Line over Cobb's Comedy Club; the venue is smaller and more intimate. The parking is easier to deal with after 6pm in the Financial District, and the Embarcadero parking lots feel safer & cleaner. They also validate when dining at nearby restaurants or watching a movie. Service at the Punch Line is friendly and on point. This place is ICONIC! I'll start by saying the act I came to see was great! But, the 2 drink minimum is a big shock if you don't know about it, which we didn't... we were gifted the tickets and had never been here before so we didn't know about the drink minimum. Our waitress asked us what did we want before last call, and when we said oh no thanks, she said there's a 2 drink minimum. We were a bit confused, (and also trying to watch the show we came to see) and we said oh we didn't sign up for that? Thinking it was a package or something as we had no idea it was a policy before hand. The waitress very loudly and aggressively said "Yes you did sign up for it, it's all over the ticket". Before I could even explain we didn't know, she stormed off and slammed the payment terminal on the table, picked up our glasses and plate with half a flatbread we were not done with, and stormed off again... we were flabbergasted. I understand the waitress doesn't make the rules, but she could have been a bit more patient. We were just trying to have a good night, and that really ruined it for us unfortunately. read more

Thanks to Yelp SF for the complimentary tix, I came here to watch a 8pm show with my friend on a Thursday night. Having recently been to Cobb's, the Punch Line deff has a different vibe to compare. It's smaller and much more intimate. Thank God, they also don't have those dumb metal detector security check like Cobb's. The comedian Orlando Leyba was hella funny! I never heard of him prior to the show but man he was deff killing it!!! I LOL'd so hard that I almost fell off my seat. The two guys who opened for him were ok. They weren't that funny. I'd totally watch another Orlando Leyba show in the future! Our bartender was very attentive and the drinks were good. My friend got two bubbles and got me a glass of house red cab and a very tasty cucumber gimlet mock-tail. We also had complimentary cheese cake dessert, yum!!! Overall, I had a blast! Thanks so much Yelp SF CM Ben and the Punch Line for allowing me and my friend for a great time!!! I can't believe this awesome comedy club might be closing in August. When I was settling my bill, the waiter gave me the tablet and only told me to click continue with 20% tip selected. When I tried to click other, he instructed me not to change the tip amount. I went here for a special Halloween event for a radio station. I've never been to the Punch Line though I've heard so much about it in the past so it was a treat to be able to go in the middle of the morning. G E T T I N G T H E R E So getting there from the south bay is pretty easy. Hop on the BART and get off of Embarcadero Station and walk less than 10 minutes there. Pretty easy peasy. I know there are a few garages for parking but public transportation is easy and the neighborhood here is safe so just go for a nice walk. You'll see the Punch Line sign board but you still have some stairs to get up and a little walk to the actual venue. I N T E R I O R It's probably the smallest spot I've been in for a comedy show. They pack the tables in there so you'll be very cozy sitting next to people. The bar is in the back as well as the restroom. The feeling as you enter is very nostalgic and it feels like you're transported back. You feel like you're entering something sacred and about to see some of the old comedians who performed there like Robin Williams. The sound system also feels like it was from back then too *chuckles.* O V E R A L L The sound was not great, the seating tightly packed and quite small, but I wouldn't mind seeing a good show there though I would prefer something closer to home and larger venue. read more

Service by Anaya was fantastic, but drinks were pricey. Dean Delray was ok, the two openers were good! Downside was my husband got scolded by a security person for laughing too loud. Ya we are at a comedy club and he was told to quiet down. Never mind the heckler and the other guy yelling out irrelevant things, so be careful folks if you laugh too loud. He wasn't heckling or being rude in any way. Another couple also noticed and said they saw the whole interaction and were stunned by it and it took the joy out of their experience. They also complained and left the show. We all went out and had drinks and a wonderful time ! Made new friends! So thanks for that you sourpuss of a security person. My friend and I came here for a comedy show. The spot is a bit hidden, after I got off Uber at the location I was kinda lost until my friend who already arrived sent me the instructions on how to get in. You need to kind of walk around a little garden area to find the entrance. The place is decent in size, with a beautiful wall paint of San Francisco views on the back of the stage, the gold color on it shines when the lights are off, and there's no backstage area so the comedian comes in from the side. Before the show we placed our first drink order ----there's a 2 drinks minimum rule----and at first I ordered 2 shots of vodka with Diet Coke, thinking that would already counted as more than 2 drinks? But they served mine with all the drinks mixed in one cup, I don't know if that's how the order here works (that you can't order your 2 drinks together during the first time they asked you) or that's how they get you. My friend got one of their mocktail. My alcoholic ass don't even know what a mocktail is until that day lol. The show we watched that wasn't that good, the headliner that day, which couple of months ago (in June) we've seen her in another comedy show in San Francisco opening for someone else, literally used the same jokes and skits from that time, like my friend and I was literally looking at each others like did we seriously bought tickets and spent time to watch almost the same thing? It was kinda disappointing. You would have thought as a professional comedian you probably already came up with new materials after half a year, right? And it's both in SF, like, wouldn't you think you might have the same audiences? So I would say my experience here is 3 stars. Very hard to locate the entrance from the parking garage. Once i got there, it was a mess trying to get someone seat me as i was only a party of one. I prefer to only drink water while still making me buy 2 drinks with their outrageous minimum. What really aggravated me was seemed like the manager walking up and down and around the venue like she was a school principal watching 1st graders, the entire time of the show. Talk about a distraction. This was my second comedy show ever, first time at Punch line. I don't think id ever come to this location again. read more

Comics were great, but the drink service is less to be desired. We were informed there was a two drink minimum with the ticket purchase; however the drinks ended up being much more expensive than anticipated - a single pint of modelo is $17! If you're going to charge that much for a beer, just increase your ticket price and remove the minimum. When we placed our drink orders we were told mixed drinks "came in doubles, is that ok?", implying there were no single options. This was a deliberate effort by the wait staff to overcharge us for more expensive versions of the drinks that we did not want. Additionally, there was pressure from the wait staff to comply with the two drink minimum by forcing (overpriced) alcohol on us when we told them that we had enough. It was only after repeatedly telling them we did not want any more alcohol that we were told we could have a (cheaper) non-alcoholic option to meet the minimums. The great comic experience was dampened by the fleecing of the venue and wait staff to make extra money through overselling already overpriced drinks. read more

San Francisco throwback classic - been coming here for years and it's always a good time. :-) If you have a chance to see a comedian you know and love here, you're in for a treat - it's a much smaller, more intimate venue than the larger ones in the city, and the ushers very intentionally pack the house in a way that puts everyone on the same level. Just roll with the fact that you won't choose your seat and always show up *early* or you'll be leaning against the bar in the back! Traditional 2-drink minimum isn't too bad if you're able to get a solid deal on show tix; drinks run around $12-$14 for a cocktail or class of wine, beers are around $10 each. The Drug Mule ($14) is my new favorite - a twist on the classic Moscow Mule by using cannabis-infused vodka. All of their cocktails are fun and tasty - pretty hard to go wrong there. It can be a little hard to find the place, but go up the stairs right on Battery and wander around on the second story until you find the entrance. Service staff is friendly and helpful, even if the folks at the door are playing it cool. Looking forward to many more shows in the future - my best advice is to take a risk and check out a comedian you've never seen; you may just discover something new! Cheers. read more

I went here last night for a mother daughter bonding evening which we hardly ever get. One of the staff came up to my daughter half way through the show and indicated her reactions were over enthusiastic and made us both feel very uncomfortable as we were just having a good time and appreciating the comedians. We left. It was a very unfortunate and expensive experience for which we got to see very little comedy. It was too bad as we were having a great time in spite of the pandemic. As a local, born and raised in the city, a performer as well as a comic. I decided to attend punch line comedy club with high hopes to be not only entertained but also impressed.. Unfortunately due to the fact that the gentleman hosting, seemed determined to express extremely inappropriate behavior, as front of house and came across as though he was determined to use his position to make myself and guest feel so uncomfortable that we chose to leave. I had high hopes for this comedy club as it has so much history but unfortunately the current staff does not seem to be able to grasp the importance of this legacy And unfortunately has resorted to making a place which feels unwelcoming and umcomfortable . If I am an audience member who is made to have these feelings I cannot imagine what it must feel like to perform here. I've been coming to punchline for many years and many shows. I love coming to this place. I like bringing people here all the time. Usually, ALL the staff are so nice from the security check in guys, the ticket scanners, the seat escorts, the bartenders, the wait staff, and the food runners/busboys. But you know that saying "one bad apple can spoil the bunch"? I unfortunately had that horribly bitter bad apple. To the waiter with the curly hair, patchy beard, clear framed hipster glasses, and outdated corny silver hoop earrings: get out of customer service. You make it incredibly obvious and clear how much you hate working there, how much you hate people, and how mad at the world you are. The nastiest, rudest bad attitude for literally no reason. I still tipped you though as I'm hoping you share and split tips there, it's not any of your coworkers faults you're so nasty and bitter. Also, I'm pretty sure that it's extremely unprofessional to stand by the exit and curse about customers barely under your breath as they're leaving, "Jesus f----ing christ, these 'mf-ing' xxxxx." , and that was to some OTHER random customers exiting. Came to Punch Line on a John Heffron night a la Yelp Elite-age event. This was my first time stepping in any sort of comedy club so I was expecting the cherry to be popped with hysterical laugher. I know absolutely nothing about stand up comedy and comedians in general except for Aziz Ansari who is much more mainstream but still very much my style. The venue itself is in sort of in a random building and felt like a maze to find the front entrance. It was a rainy Thursday evening and the last thing I wanted to do was wander around in the rain looking for the entrance to this place. You have to go up the stairs and wrap around until you spot the doors. But the nice part is the building was covered in foliage and if you were outside and looked up, you'd see the concrete jungle of FIDI/SOMA and it felt like an oasis where you could retreat. What an odd place for a comedy club! I loved it! The venue inside has a good amount of seating and most noobs who come in for the first time will most likely caveat and preface to the bouncer "I don't want to sit in the front because I will get picked on". Not always the case folks but most likely 99.99% true. I decided to be semi-brave and sat in the second-ish row. Not going to risk it sitting on death row right smack dab in front of the comedian during my first show, that strike zone is not my style. The venue was smaller, but felt more intimate. The crowd was also a lot older. The food and beverage selection seemed minimal. We tried the bbq chicken pizza which tasted as I suspected...frozen pizza heated up and tasted fresh like a cheesy sponge. Overall, I'd return! Perhaps to check out another comedian and to have a good time because who the heck doesn't like to laugh!?!?! read more

There is a different rating for the comics and the comedy club. The quality of the talent is great (5/5); everyone from the host to the headliner was super funny, and I felt very engaged and was laughing the entire time. This was probably the best stand-up comedy show I have been to, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The quality of the comedy club itself I would say has a rating of more 3.5/5. They do a good job of creating a fairly intimate space, but then have a draconian two drink minimum and pester you to buy those two drinks throughout the performance. Prices are fairly high ($6.25 for a PBR which I thought was outrageous); if they want to make money, I think they should charge more for the tickets upfront rather than impose a drink minimum. read more

My only one complaint is that Punchline needs to update their website to delete the Happy Half Hour because they no longer have that option anymore. I checked with the bartender. If you like comedy, this is a very nice, small, intimate and comfortable setting. Most are great seats, just don't come late where you might be stuck to the far left and right sides that may block your vision from the stage. So show up early at least 30 minutes to pick where you want to seat. I sat by bar near the restroom side and I had great view from stage. If you come solo, your options is the front row of stage (hell no! I don't want to get picked on by the comedians!) or by the bar. The servers and bartender were quite low key and not pushy in anyway. There is a two drink minimum, but not enforced. Just drink slowly and be a nice patron. So there were two opening acts and then the headliner will come up. This was my first time to this comedy club. This club as lots of history and is probably the oldest comedy club since it opened in 1978. read more
