With rising food costs, I understand the challenges, but unfortunately the quality here has noticeably declined. My husband and I came for brunch to celebrate our anniversary, and it was very disappointing compared to our previous visits. The pancakes were tough and inedible--we had to request a waffle instead. While the crab dip was enjoyable, the rest of the meal fell short. Our server (Erika) made us feel rushed, which took away from what was supposed to be a special occasion. The portion sizes were also surprising--my husband's platter included a single sausage cut in half, and mine came with half a slice of bacon. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations. If maintaining quality requires higher prices, I would much rather pay more for a better experience than receive subpar food and portions. Sadly, this visit was a letdown, and we won't be returning. We visited Rustic Spoon for mothers day brunch and we were not disappointed. It had been recommended to us a few times and we finally made the reservations to go with my mother in law. It was a great experience. They were knowledgeable about their gluten free options and I was able to have an eggs benedict GLUTEN FREE! Score for me! My husband had chicken and waffles and had no complaints (it did look great) and my mother in law enjoyed pancakes. Our server was attentive, which was much appreciated. The Rustic Spoon came to the Red Mill Commons Shopping Center in April 2023 after some delays during the pandemic. They are located behind the Panera Bread and can be seen from Upton Dr. My most recent visit here was on January 18, 2026. From the outside, you can see the sign for the business on the side and out front. There is some limited outdoor seating as well. With other businesses along that stretch and such, parking can be limited during peak times. I can attest to that as parking was limited when I came on January 16, 2026 (this wasn't an issue on the most recent visit). The reason for two visits pretty close together was because this was during Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. The visit on January 16, 2026 was for dinner and the visit on January 18, 2026 was for breakfast. Starting with the dinner visit on January 16, 2025, it was already pretty busy in there as there was a large party event going on with half of the seating area. This probably explains why parking was limited that evening. Even though that was the case, we were immediately greeted and able to be seated. It wasn't long before our server Megan came to the table. She asked us what we wanted to drink. I went with water with lemon and mom got a coke. It would take us a bit of time to choose what we wanted. I ended up going with the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer and Fried Shrimp Platter for the entree. My mom went with the Corn Chowder appetizer and Crab Cake Dinner as the entree. After about five minutes, the appetizers came out to the table. The Firecracker Shrimp were very tasty and flavorful. My mom loved the Corn Chowder that she ordered. About ten minutes after that, the entrees came to the table. Both foods looked good and they were hot as expected. I really liked the fried shrimp as it wasn't overly breaded either. It had a great taste. The fries were good too, and they were like an indulgence for me. The coleslaw was good too. My mom liked the Crab Cake Dinner that she had. The last part was the dessert. I knew this would spike my blood sugars, but I went with the Peanut Butter Pie, and my mom went with the Oreo Outlaw dessert. It didn't take long for those to come out, and that was the ultimate indulgence to finish off the evening. The second visit during the morning on January 18, 2026 for the Breakfast/Lunch version of their restaurant week menu. This was the first time I had been here for breakfast. We had the same server we had a few days before at the dinner version. On this visit, for the appetizer, I decided to try the Risotto Bites and my mom had the Corn Chowder again. For the entree, we both did the Classic French Toast, though I did mine with bacon, and my mom did hers with Edwards Sausage. The Risotto Bites were really good and had a nice flavor to them. The Classic French Toast was a great indulgence for me too. It was soft and hot. The bacon was great too. Overall, I have had some great experiences here recently. The food and service are top notch. There is ample seating inside, and there is some limited outdoor seating. They have daily food specials during the week too. Me and my girls got together for a turned up brunch!! We had a reservation and got seated with no issues. Our waitress was friendly and she was attentive to our needs. It was almost a full house, so I'm glad my friend made the reservation. We ordered the berry compote biscuits with cream cheese lemon glaze, the rockfish benedict, calamari, risotto balls, carnitas hash, and Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese never came, so I just took that as a sign that I didn't need it. Lol. The rockfish was fried well, alone it was bland, but as a whole dish with everything else it was good. You get a grilled green tomato with it, but I feel fried would have been better. But I enjoyed it. The calamari was delicious, the Thai chili sauce was popping popping!! My favorite!! My friends and I met up for brunch at The Rustic Spoon on Sunday. The place was pretty packed but thankfully, we made reservations and were able to be seated right away. Our server greeted us and was very friendly. She brought over waters and informed us of the brunch specials menu. After looking everything over, I decided to order the Fried Calamari and the Carnitas Hash, along with a Summer Berry Mimosa. Our food came out fairly quickly and I started by sampling a few things my friends ordered. The Berry Patch Biscuits were definitely on the sweeter side thanks to the berry compote and lemon cream cheese icing, but they were absolutely amazing. The Risotto Bites, on the other hand, were pretty flavorless and underwhelming. The Fried Calamari was fried perfectly and delicious as always. The Carnitas Hash tasted okay, but the potatoes were very hard and overcooked, which was disappointing. Overall, we had a decent time at brunch. The parking lot was packed, the waitlist was long, but we walked right in and were seated at a great booth--no wait at all. Highly recommend reserving ahead if you're planning to visit, especially on the weekend. I wasn't super hungry, so I kept it light and ordered the homemade biscuits (which I'd heard a lot about) and the fried risotto balls. I also couldn't resist trying the Hot Honey Peach Margarita--and that was the true standout of the meal. That margarita? Five stars. Sweet, spicy, and dangerously good. I liked the decor and ambiance of this spot and their menu is pretty big so there's something for everyone. We ordered the Japanese style pancakes (they take 25 min to make) which were tasty - very light and fluffy with a hint of sweetness but I'm not in a rush to get them again. I got the carnitas omelet which was also tasty but was deceiving because they stuffed it with some of the breakfast potatoes so it made it look bigger and fuller than it actually was. The meat was nice and tender though. Negatives - my breakfast potatoes were insanely salty though - I only had a few and I didn't care for the red pepper flakes they put on top of my omelet. What a nice surprise! We were invited to a birthday party and thought it was perfect for the occasion. The ambiance and lighting were very nice, inviting but calming, and you didn't feel as if you had to be dressed up, although you could if you wanted. We had buffet-style food, and all of it was very tasty. Not only tasty but plentiful! There was no way all could be eaten, and we had to take "to-go" boxes for that late-night snack. The bar area was nice, with EXCELLENT service. The drinks were amazing, along with the service and speed, especially considering a full-capacity party going on. Vicki was our main person, and we really found her to be exceptional. The rest were as well, but she was the main point of contact. We tried Rustic Spoon at the Shore Drive location and for brunch. We weren't aware it had dinner but were pleased when they opened one up in the Redmill area. We are so glad it did, as this will be on our radar moving forward. We hear Happy Hour is fantastic, and that is right up our alley. Our next visit will be sooner than later, and so should yours! read more

This was my first time at this location as we typically go to their other location, the service, food and ambiance was on par with their original location. Food was very delicious, it's honestly really hard to pick one thing when I come here because everything is delicious. Their scotch egg is a must for us, funny I do have a picture because we were so excited to dig in that I forgot to take a picture of it. We also enjoyed their risotto bites, which were a perfect appetizer, salty, savory, creamy, acidic, and with a great texture. Their corn chowder is addictive, it's so good. My experience here was much better than mine at the original location after a half marathon where my stuffed toast wasn't stuffed and issue wasn't addressed.... Here - the staff were all warm and friendly and food was out quickly and was warm and delicious. The coffee was fresh and hot, my scotch eggs were out in moments and my corn chowder and carnitas hash were savory and filling! My waitress, Emily, was a delight - super friendly and attentive. I've watched this being built 5 minutes from my home for a loooong time due to delays and happy to see it thriving in this shopping center. A great new addition. Their menu here for brunch is great and has all the basics plus some interesting items. You can get omelets, avo toast, pancakes, hash, etc but then they also have salads and Benedict's and burgers and fun alcoholic drinks. This place is so amazing I hardly have the words to adequately describe it. I recently went to breakfast here with one of my dearest friends and we had a wonderful experience. The servers all worked together to get us our food as soon as the kitchen staff prepared it. I've been in some places where hell would freeze over before someone other than your server would deign to help out. This is not that place at all. I had the classic Eggs Benedict and I absolutely loved it. I make it a point to let the server know that I like a warm runny center of my poached eggs. Some will write this down to convey to the kitchen but most will not and invariably I end up getting a solid core (hard boiled egg.) I went here my first time, I have never went to the first location either so I came to order take out for breakfast. I went to the bar to order take out so I ordered steak and eggs. The steak was tender and the eggs was fluffy. The home fries were good. While I was waiting for my order to be ready the bar tender gave me a glass of water to drink which is pretty nice gave me refills of water too. Very friendly and helpful. This is weird but it tastes great with distinct corn and bacon flavors. Eats like a dip or a porridge. I still think a little liquid wouldn't hurt. Brioche buns don't work. It's 2025 can we just stop with these things that guarantee your burger will fall apart? I am not a fan of the pickled green tomato on the burger but others might like it. My family and I visited the Rustic Spoon recently to try out a new place for lunch ,and honestly, I can't say enough good things about it. We walked in and was greeted with the warmest welcome and the sounds of laughter and good times being had! The ambiance of the establishment was so cozy, great decorations and had me feeling like I was back in my childhood kitchen eating with my parents. As we were sat and had started reviewing their menu I will admit that I was worried about the prices, but I went ahead and ordered their crab cake burger and fries with their specialty sauce and I was absolutely blown away by the food I was served. It was the best crab cake I had EVER had in some time and the portions were great! My husband ordered the Reuben sandwich and said it was phenomenal.
