I've been going to this place since I was in college in 2008 and can't say enough good things about it. It's my favorite Indian restaurant in Boston hands down. The food is delicious, servers are nice, and if you dine in, you'll find it hard to keep your eyes away from the Bollywood music videos playing in the background! If you're new, here's a recommendation for what to order for two: 1) Appetizer - Vegetable Pakora and Garlic Nan 2) Main Course - Lamb Vindaloo, Saag Paneer, Chicken Korma (order 2 of the 3, or plan to have tons of leftovers!) 3) Dessert -- you'll probably be stuffed after all the delicious food, but you should try the Special Masala Chah (tea drink) after the meal. read more

Ordered delivery through GrubHub. Overall the food was vibrant in presentation, but lackluster in flavor which is not typical of this cuisine. The chicken itself was dry and spongy in the Tikka Masala, with some pieces having an aftertaste of rancid dairy. The yogurt they tenderized the meat in should have made it fork-tender and soft, leaving behind a lovely melt-in-your-mouth texture. Either the dryness is attributed to over-cooking, being left out under a heat lamp all day long, was actually leftovers from the previous day, or the meat was left to marinate only to be forgotten in the back of the fridge, thus the punchy sourness that reminded me of spoiled milk rather than yogurt. Ever baked something that deserved dairy and butter instead of just water and flour? Imagine the disappointment when I tried the naan. Goat Curry was fine, and probably would have made more of an impression if I hadn't tried the tikka first. Mild and medium heat had no discernible difference. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I recently went to Punjab Palace in a Friday night for dinner with 3 friends. We didn't have a reservation, but happily agreed to wait 5-10 minutes for our table. We were seated fairly quickly and had high hopes for our experience as we have gotten food from here delivered in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, our experience here was quite possibly the worst I have ever had. We waited almost 10 minutes for our server to take our drink orders and we also ordered some naan. Our server brought our drinks and took our food orders. We all ordered pretty standard things, no modifications or anything. Approximately 15 minutes went by and we finally got our naan. This and the fact that I hadn't seen any food being served to other patrons should have been a sign that our Punjab Palace experience was about to take a terrible turn. After waiting 45 minutes after placing our food order, we flagged down our server to ask if our food was almost done, he said it would be out soon. 15 minutes pass and we have not been waiting an hour and many other people still have not received their food either. Once again we ask our server for an update, not even to be rude but just because at this point we were so hungry. Our server told us that the kitchen was just finishing up takeout orders and was about to start cooking orders for dine in. As someone who has worked in restaurants before, I was appalled. An hour wait and they hadn't even started on our food yet? I completely understand being busy/slammed and not being able to keep up with orders, but making your customers wait over an hour and telling them that takeout orders were being prioritized is ridiculous. We continued to wait for another 15-20 minutes because we figured by this point we might as well stick it out. After waiting over an hour and 20 minutes for 4 entrees, we asked our server once more for an update because by now I felt like I was ready to pass out from not eating. He couldn't even give us an update on our food. Extremely frustrated and hungry, we decided to leave and called in an order from a pizza place down the street, which was ready for us by the time we walked over to pick it up. One of my favorite places to eat! Extremely affordable and delicious Indian food. Chicken tikka and vegetable samosas are great, in fact the vegetable samosas are the best I've had! Naan is fresh and mint chutney is delicious. We got takeout so cannot review dine in experience. I'm disappointed. As someone who eats Indian food daily this was just sad. I got medium which had no spice at all. Like i get mild from other places and it's hot. Medium for them must mean non-existent spice. It was soupy too and it was too oily The naan bread I could not eat. It was bad like so bad I had to spit it out. The rice was ok. Just meh. Been here twice and left full (with plenty of food left over) and satisfied both times. This place appears to be the real deal. Walking in you immeiately notice the widescreen TV showing Bollywood clips and Indian music videos. The decor is pleasant, but unglamorous. The food however, is spectacular. My first time there I grabbed some garlic naan and a mediium spiced chicken curry. The curry was ALMOST too hot for my tastes (although I suspect that has more to do with my own tolerance as opposed to any mistake on the kitchens part, but the flavors were excellent.) On my 2nd visit I grabbed some Aloo Chole (Potatoes and chick peas cooked with herbs and Indian spices) - this time mildly spiced - and just loved the distinct flavor, especially when coupled with the garlic naan. In addition, the entrees are reeasonably priced givent he amount of food you get, and the waitstaff are attentive and pleasant. they provide you with 3 dipping sauces & some crackers at the table while you look over the menu - tasty. The garlic naan is slightly thicker than usual because it's stuff with garlic & season- best ever. the paneer naan is stuffed with cheese-kinda bland but good the next day cold & for sopping up the remaining sauces. The shrimp saag is really good- thick mixture of spinach & cream. The goat shahi korma has a really tasty cream sauce but disappointed with the small scraps of goat meat on the bones. Ah, my happy heart. A friend from out of town arrived somewhat late on a Friday night, and we strolled for dinner, intending to go for my first time to Ariana, which was full. Luckily, there was a single table open at the Palace nearby, so we ducked in out of the chill and feasted on Indian beers, onion bhaji, a couple of curries, and a bottle of wine, totaling less than $65.00 (before tip). Service was excellent (if not mildly confusing, since at one point there were five different waiters taking care of the two of us). Having moved to the area somewhat recently, I'm making it a goal to try as many places as possible before having a repeat performance, but it'll be hard not to cheat in order to get back here more quickly. read more

I've had both takeout and dine in at Punjab Palace and I was quite pleased. When we dined in, the BF and I went around lunchtime and we were the only ones there. I ordered saag paneer and he ordered chicken tikka masala. These are both staples and we've found they are pretty hard to screw up, but they were delicious nonetheless. I know it isn't anything special, but their basmati rice is great. Right texture & they give you a heck of a lot. We also ordered garlic naan and it was meh (basically the reason why I'm deducting a star) but not enough to deter me from eating there. Bonus: they play bollywood music videos on a mounted tv. I love this place. They have literally everything you could want in an Indian restaurant. Where else can you get some of the spiciest food in Boston and watch old school Bollywood videos at the same time? This place a one stop crash course in Indian food. A veggie platter with samosas, pakoras and deep fried spicy cheese fritters. A gigantic selection of nan (garlic is a personal favorite) and entrees that will serve both carnivores and vegetarians alike. I'm a serious fan of spicy food. When I first stared eating spicy food, I went there and had to get mild. Three years later even the spiciest isn't to spicy for me. If you want to get in shape with spicy food, this is your gym. What I love most about this place is even when I go a solid 6 months with out coming in, they still remember me. The delivery is excellent and fast too. KEYWORDS: COLD, SOGGY, BLAND I really had an Indian food craving tonight, after a rainy day. I ordered the vegetable samosas, the lamb curry and the mango lassi for delivery. Here are all the things that killed it for me: 1- the food arrived cold. I like my food at least warm, especially when it involves something fried and covered in sauce... 2- the samosas were soggy from the water vapor condensed in the plastic container. Also, I did not like the sauces that came with the samosas (one tasted like ketchup with vinegar, and the other was tomato paste with raw onions). Where are the chutneys and/or the yogurt sauces? :( 3- the lamb curry was sooo bland. It really had no density or kick to it. The lassi was good. I know it is supposed to be super sweet traditionally so I will not complain. Overall REALLY disappointed. I am not a picky eater but you expect something better for a $25 meal.... For the most part, my experiences here have been good but not great. I love indian food, and while most of their dishes are great, there have been a few misses. Their bhel puri came out with cilantro mixed in and sprinkled on top though I very specifically requested it be left out (I can't eat it- it tastes like soap). Everything else that night was delicious- The Channa Saagwalla was a particular favorite. Their takeout is also more difficult than it needs to be. I placed an order, was told it would take 20 minutes, showed up 25 minutes, then I still had to wait 15 more minutes! I guess they sent my food to someone else, but that 15 minutes made me late to work, so I wasn't thrilled. The food was still very good though. I am obsessed with this place. It has a great atmosphere and the waiters are extremely friendly and attentive. They also deliver extremely quickly and their prices are good, especially considering the generous servings. I haven't tried anything here that I didn't like, but I have to say my two favorites are the chicken korma (so creamy and delicious!) and the matar paneer (although I love anything with paneer). Punjab palace is fit for royalty. The service was wonderful. Our waiter was so nice and everything came out in a very timely manner. I had actually never had Indian food before this instance and let me tell you they set the bar very high. I got the chicken tikka masala (mild) and it was seriously SO good. I don't like a lot of spice so mild was definitely the way to go, but people in my party also got medium and were very happy with their choices. Visiting the area for work, and I was delighted to see an Indian restaurant with delivery near my hotel. This was honestly the best Indian food I have ever had. Portions were substantial, and the spice level was sooooooooo spot on. I got medium spice, and it was fairly spicy! Lam vindaloo and chicken tikka were cooked perfectly. My only gripe was the delivery guy was a dud, but they use a third party for that service, so I can't blame them. Food was still piping hot when it arrived. "Desi Indian" food that is nothing to write home about. Basic Indian slop that cannot compete with the newer South Indian places that emerged over the years. Punjab Palace is heavy the on the ghee with a style of cooking more common with Indian restaurants 30 years ago. Being the only show on the road helps them.
